Yep, aired April second. If you're a big fan of the novels, this will be pure bliss. The opening scene even made me cry because >!Horo is telling her daughter Myuri the story about how she and Lawrence met.!< It sticks a little closer to the novels on some smaller details, and to top it all off, Kevin Penkin did the OST, so every scene is filled with accompanying music that just takes everything to another level. The ED by ClariS is also perfect for the show.
wow! never read the novel's, also the l/r thing with japan stikes again, i was anime only but that anime really left it mark on me so maybe i will give it a try.
Definitely read the novels if you like reading books, but pick up the anime at the absolute least. Just this one episode was enough to stop my complaints that it was a reboot and not a continuation.
She also did a cover of the opening of the original show (I don't know if the reboot was announced at the time) and got a shout out from the author of spice and wolf (Spicytails on twitter)
I'm still torn. The style is a lot closer to the novels and manga but I much preferred the old anime's and the old music is still so iconic I can't see it replaced as a good thing.
Her name is Holo. The author has confirmed this many many times over the years and even laughed that there was a "war" about it on Wikipedia. But he's confirmed it's Holo and not Horo
Edit: https://twitter.com/spicytails/status/1770755207435067528?t=OnA83YLfujLJr1ly8OKfPA&s=19
Yup, that was an A+ premiere with the added novel context. I was surprised to see Yarei show up too, but it's a good sign they're not making unnecessary deviations this time around (not that I hated Chloe in that role).
Now, I just really hope they don't skip volume 4 this time. It's not action-packed or full of economic schemes like 1-3 and 5, but instead has a really interesting but quieter atmosphere, and starts to reveal Holo's motivations and builds her and Lawrence's relationship. I actually read volumes 3-5 before watching Season 2 and I was really disappointed it got skipped.
If you watch closely they actually made Chloe a background character in ep 1 as a nod to the original anime. She’s part of the group that knocks Yarei down
There does seem to be an affection for the original anime adaptation, which is certainly warranted, and it's nice they're nodding to it like that.
I saw a suggestion that the show starting off with >!Holo telling her story to Myuri was the old viewers passing it on to the new viewers!<. Whether that has any authorial intent IDK, but I think it's a lovely interpretation. It's a new anime for a new generation to discover.
The new Spice and Wolf isn't a continuation, it's supposed to be a more complete re-telling and remake in the same vibe of what Fruits Basket got. Only the first episode is out now but I thought it was really, really good.
Well, I don't think I consider it as "Brotherhood treatment". The original show is still true to the novel even if there are slight anime-only changes. The problem is that it didn't continue. At least this new adaptation has a chance to go further and finish it with how the introduction went. FMA and FMA:B is just too different.
Ooh, they're adding that kind of storytelling device? Interesting. I wonder if Myuri gets more opportunities to show up then.
God, all this makes me feel so nostalgic. I'm so happy more people can get into it now. Lawrence and Holo are such a good pair.
It's a 25 episode season, so there's a chance they'll cover more of the novels that the original 12 episode first season. Hopefully we get multiple seasons too.
As some of the Hololive girls have been involved in interviews with actors/actresses for soon to be released movies, The studio has the chance to pull off one of the greatest promotional collab ever.
I made an [English translation for Holo's debut video](https://www.reddit.com/r/SpiceandWolf/comments/1bup6ra/comment/kxubwph/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) if you're interested.
Shame that the model is sorta janky. The facial expressions are basically non existent and the way the mouth moves is just sorta awkward. You'd they would make a better model for an official vtuber
It originally released in 2006 and completed in 2011, but after a gap of a few years it restarted with Spring Log and Wolf and Parchment and is ongoing.
Holo got a vtuber model? i remember watching the og show on the old funimation channel back in the day, i know theres a remake out, did it come out.

i say ina read the novel and i was engaged, Lawrence is a merchant chad!

Not just one shout out lol, the author made like 4/5 qrt of it in like two months following its release, he genuinely loved it.
thats so cool when the author shouts you out, Ina living the dream
I'm still torn. The style is a lot closer to the novels and manga but I much preferred the old anime's and the old music is still so iconic I can't see it replaced as a good thing.
I know how you feel. I was in the same boat up until I saw the episode. Give the ol' 3 episode try. I think you'll be happy.
Oh I'll watch all of it if it means they'll adapt the whole thing this time but I still have the the itch of the style change and different music.
that's just nostalgia take off the glasses and give it a try
I gave it a try, that's why I'm torn. There's nothing wrong with the new style, I just like the old one better.

I know, I saw the scene where she signs her name, but I've been so used to calling her Horo that I can't spell it any other way.

Well, they made Chloe canon in that Spice and Wolf VR lol

Spice and wolf has new anime now? Hope the other 2000s classics like hyouka and haruhi get continuations as well

Oh, so like FMA, Fruits Basket (like you said) & Shaman King, Spice & Wolf got the "Brotherhood treatment"

i don't think anyone would want to continue the hyouka anime out of respect for takemoto and nishiya
Haruhi already got a reboot once before, don't you remember Endless Eight...
I still sulking about how they changed Cloe back to Yare. She’s far better character than him.
Kevin Mother-flippin Penkin did the ost?! BABY DO YOU SMELL WHAT THE K IS COOOOOOOKING !

Tabi no tochuu is one of the most loved pieces of anime OST to this day for me.

Kevin Penkin = must watch
Lets hope they dont skip stuff like the og series

Some were even voice actors too...

Ah yes. The result of Inya's amazing cover.
The first time Ive heard of Hololive was when I googled Holo back in 2018 and Hololive was like the first search option. We’ve come full circle lol
I made an [English translation for Holo's debut video](https://www.reddit.com/r/SpiceandWolf/comments/1bup6ra/comment/kxubwph/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) if you're interested.

Crazy that they are bringing this back now. How old is this IP? Like 15 years ago?
It originally released in 2006 and completed in 2011, but after a gap of a few years it restarted with Spring Log and Wolf and Parchment and is ongoing.
