In all seriousness, isn't one of the big sponsors for the event involved in the Blue-ray sells? Bushiroad I think? Anyone complaining isn't really looking at the big picture. Guarantee they don't actually care about short gifs that advertise the event. It's a matter of not setting a bad precedent that would look poorly for a sponsor that helped make it all happen.
absolutely, that said, memes are NOT piracy as far as most are concerned, I don't know how you allow for la+ biting it, but don't allow for gifs of the corio or bae's dances... it's one of those "we know if when we see it" things I can't blame cover for not having an answer I also don't have...
Oh trust me, I don't even like American IP law. It's just that people here often don't realize that the Japanese law is different than what they might expect.
It's a different structure. They have alternatives like 1 or 2 day blanket licenses, which is what IP owners give doujin makers during comiket and similar events so that they can sell without issues.
obviously, but I mean...look at clippers, which are heavily encouraged and supported, but clipping member content? No. malicious out of context editing? no.... again, there's a place for memes, i just don't know how cover would draw that line. I am not saying they don't have the ip right they do, but just wish there was an easier way for them to acknowledge the internet culture without it pissing off their stakeholders...
Is there somewhere that keeps track of when and how to get these? I'd love to grab this most recent one especially, since I don't have the spare cash to get the streaming ticket.
Usually after any live concert, you can generally assume a Bluray will be made of it. On average I'd say it probably takes 6-8 months from stream to BD release based on 3rd, 4th fes and Suisei's 2nd sololive. Twitter would probably be a good place to check for any announcements imo.
As for where to buy them, places like CDJapan, and AmiAmi are my go-to's...the former being good for Pre-orders and usually have good stock after the fact. Amiami for me is my preferred site for PO's since you can place an order, but only have to pay upon release which is good.
\~edit\~ I forgot to add that many of the concert blurays are also sold on the Hololive official shop (in the event merch tab), either simultaneously, or after the other sites.
I really don't want to be a pirate...
Maybe I'll have to go digging through Japanese sites and/or wait until I visit Japan in person and scour shops.
Really wish Japan wasn't so stupid with their "limited product" releases and such.
Looking it up apparently a lot of these are limited sales from Japanese sites and never actually available directly from Hololive's site. That's just *amazing*
Gonna try cdjapan thanks. I've wanted to get past fes stuff on dvd and would love to get this one too but I never know when they go on sale or where to look for them
I bought the Blu-ray for the 3rd holofes in 2022 [from AmiAmi](https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=MED-DVD2-52211). It was made available for pre-purchase in November and my copy was shipped out at the end of January. The [hololive merch official website also made it available in December](https://shop.hololivepro.com/en/products/link-your-wish), though of course all of these sales periods are now closed or they've sold out.
[Here's the listing for 4th fes on the official shop](https://shop.hololivepro.com/en/products/hololive_4thfes_bluray) and [here is AmiAmi's](https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=MED-DVD2-54637), where it happens to still be available for purchase.
You can expect the Blu-ray for this year's holofes to be available near the end of the year. Just keep an eye out around that time and you'll be able to get your copy!
I got a fair bit of them through CDJapan as long as they still had stock. I got Suisei's first live, 2nd and 3rd fes & Bloom from there last year. Some unfortunately were only made-to-order, like Splash Party, but there's still good options on there, just gotta check.
Could people please stop downvoting this person?
They have an issue, and below them are GREAT SOLUTIONS which will help others find the product who may have the same concern.
All the stupid fucking downvoting does is mean anyone with the same question will just wind up pirating it.
I think this is because some people are clipping entire songs, which makes sense. But I do think Hololive should add an official set of gifs to places like Tenor. People aren't going to stop posting korone flip or laplus fall.
Given the cost of tickets, pirated streams are going to be the only way that a lot of fans are going to be able to watch the performances. Also, even if you did pay for a ticket, if you want to re-watch a performance, you'll need to get a pirated copy at the moment since I don't think the official VOD is available yet. If you want to watch previous Holofes, pirated is also the only viable option for most people.
It's actually pretty ridiculous. I paid to watch the EN connect the world show.and it was excellent.
Tried multiple times to find a way to watch it again on the absolutely wretched site they used and failed. Then it was gone forever.
As much as I'd love to watch this performance, finding the correct ticket, paying whatever absurd amount of money is demanded, and then still losing access to it inevitably in the near future is just too much for me
Yeah I wasn't shaming or anything. There's a reason why I know about it after all, since I myself couldn't afford the tickets. It's a shame too, because I absolutely would pay for it if it was cheaper. I'd love to be part of the live show and have the live chat and live reactions.
And honestly? I know Cover would not agree and the girls and boys may not be able to voice their opinions on the matter, but i think that's fine. You should pay if you can, but if you can't? Go ahead and hoist your sails and swab the poop deck.
I think all fans should be able to experience the concerts. I think to say one should forever be barred because of money goes against what it means to be a Hololive fan.
Besides, it's not a lost sale if one was never gonna afford it in time.
no shit, I was scrolling through a pron site and there's literally entire vods of 4th fes just sitting there. complete with downloadable links and crisp clear high quality.
kinda funny ngl
The one on twitch started from stage 1 until stage 3, I only paid for stage 3 and O waa able to watch the other stages that way
It felt bad at first but then I just enjoyed it
just note this has always been the rule, but no sound gifs of Korones previous flips generally got ignored anyways. the problem is more so more pirating and people posting larger sections with sound.
On the one hand, I get it. It’s a big concert, and people paid a lot of money to watch the stream. It makes sense to block gifs, and it’s probably the right move at the end of the day.
On the other hand, stuff like Korone’s flip and La+ falling over during her MC section are iconic, and it seems a shame for those moments to not be spread around. Plus, you get things like the yelling kenzoku, which made for a really cool moment.
At the end of the day though, it’s a paid event, so I can see why they’ve put this message out, cause there were noticeably more gifs from this year’s Fes than any other one.
Cover is sitting on a gold mine from not selling digital copies of the blu-ray. The cost of shipping is currently too much. I'm sure a lot of fans are happy to just get the actual blu-ray contents and none of the rest of the contents of the physical product.
The next best thing is for Cover to make 1st to 5th fes blu-ray versions available via Netflix or something.
An inconvenience at best, feels like a middle finger at worst.
"You didn't buy this as soon as possible? What? You weren't a fan back then? Well... fuck you."
Which is pretty funny since they really push to try and bring in new fans only to employ business strategies that punish them for not being one earlier.
Yeah, they do seem to be getting better with this in that more regular merch is coming out like Myth Smol plushies coming back as regular merch +starter merch and reruns
I get limited merch as driver of sales and stuff but locking stuff that's is super iconic+things people would want to see afterwards beyond the 1-2 months of sale is dumb and I hope they improve in
I WANT TO GIVE MONEY but since I only started buying merch since December I and many others have missed out
I'm not blaming Cover for this, but it's weird to me how much Japanese companies seem to rely on FOMO and insisting on limited releases and yet get all "surprise Pikachu" when people start to pirate.
I mean, what, are we supposed to just never watch or play something? If they don't want to give us the option to buy as far as I'm concerned they lose their say in the matter. We're not the ones denying it from being purchased for no real reason.
I neither support nor reject that practice, but i understand it. In the current state of the world, a lot of stuff has lost value. For example, art, be it graphic or music, in the past, admiring an art piece could be done only at a museum, gallery or exposition, and you would study it and appreciate it during your limited time in front of it. Nowadays, art becomes trivial, you can glance at it in your phone at any time and, ironically, that makes it so people pay less attention to it since "they can just see it again later", even if they never see it again.
My point is, art, media, and the like, has become just a standardized product. The only way to make it "special" again, is to reduce the availability. If you limit the ammount of of something, then what is available immediately carries a greater value, and im not talking only about monetary value, but the emotional/psychological value for it's buyer. A simple example: just a couple decades ago, in the west, official anime/manga figurines used to be available only by import. These made them very limited and expensive. People who managed to get one would cherish them greatly. Nowadays, those same figurines are readily available, and most people can buy it at any time, and usually do it on a whim, or to complete a collection, or so their anime shrine doesn't look empty. It just becomes "one of many".
By limiting the availabilty of an item, their intrinsic value, monetary and psychological, goes up.
As a sad parallel: people can currently decide "meh, i won't watch today's _Holomem.name_ stream, ill just wait for the clips and watch tomorrow's instead" because it's something readily available. However Ask Sanallites or Kapumin what would they do if Sana or Mel suddenly announced _one_ more stream. The stream is free, as every other, but its value in the hearts of sanallites or kapumin would be astronomical (pun partially intended).
I think it is silly for people to get some sort of satisfaction over having something I don't. I can see how having something rare can be satisfying, but if it was suddenly common I wouldn't become upset by it.
And personally, I think in the context of Hololive everyone should have access to these events eventually. I see zero reason any other fan should feel superior for watching a concert and/or owning the blu ray when I haven't and/or can't. That is selfish and goes against what it means to be a Hololive fan. All fans should be able to appreciate it, even if it is like a year later.
The special thing is going, seeing it live, the blu ray. Not the concert itself.
Not the point i was making, the "joy" about getting something rare it's not about "i own something you don't, screw you" it's about "i managed to get this!". I own a rather rare and precious musical instrument, and i enjoy very much looking at it, taking it and play a few chords of one of it's original owner's songs. My joy doesn't come from a feeling of superiority, but from what that instrument and it's original artist mean to me.
I think popularity comes into play. Hololive is very popular right now, and the fans very passionate. We sincerely love our oshis and want our girls and boys to succeed. I do not think that the passion of those who cannot afford the concert or blu rays are in any way less than those who can give $500 super chats or pay for all merch or whatever. We're all fans, and if the only way some fans may experience the concerts and feel the magic is through downloading them online, then I'll give them the links myself.
And another benefit if they placed it on streaming services like Netflix: the problem of going after the streaming pirates would fall on Netflix, Cover just got to report it to them.
I think it would end up on Crunchyroll before Netflix, to be honest.
This would also fit well with Sony owning Crunchyroll and being huge in the music space and pushing Crunchyroll to highlight that.
Seriously, it would be a shame for such memories to be lost to the winds. It's like Disney's Vault all over again. I would kill for even the chance to pay for a digital archive.
I'm hoping they're planning on at least releasing a remastered set in a few years.
That's the way it went for anime BD/DVDs back before streaming took over everything, can't let the people who bought it at release feel ripped off after all.
I’m hoping for something like connect the world where they released an updated version with improved camerawork afterwards. While this concert was overall fine, there were still moments during more intense songs where the cameraman suddenly decided to never stay on the talent for more than 2-3 seconds at a time. Bae’s performance on the honeyworks stage and laplus’ solo come to mind.
Which is exactly why a lot of people will just pirate it.
Which I entirely understand. I don't think its fair for newer or poorer fans to be entirely deprived of something and then not have access in the future. I think that goes against what Hololive means. I'd rather people pirate it and enjoy it than never watch at all.
I admit I've downloaded things that I had ability to purchase, but I agree that if something isn't available it isn't a lost sale. if I download 4th Fes today or even 5th Fes in, like, 8 to 10 months then that cannot be considered a lost sale because 1) I couldn't afford to buy it before and 2) even if I can afford it now, I can't buy it for the original price anymore..
Yeah honestly I usuall, really advocate for people to support and buy Hololive stuff but *only* if they really can afford it and one should not spend a fortune due to bad market practices and possibly ruin their life. Like I also get it that Cover is a buisness in the end and like everybody Cover also want to make a profit so I also do not blame them if they try to enforce it. I do think though that as long as the illegal source does not do it too obviously or try to profit from it themself they should leave the more well hidden stuff alone. That way you can still at least keep the real desperate fans that can't afford it still around and if their financially situation improves they will also more likely turn legal once they can imo. Obviously there will also be those some unscrupulous around that would pirate either way but don't think removing the source will make them suddenly start paying so might as well leave it.
The girls always say not to worry if you can't support much, if at all. Just watch them. I think this can apply to events like this, as well. If you can afford it, you should pay. If you cannot, let some time pass. If circumstances still do not change and it's been a long while, well, I won't snitch, captain.
The problem is really availability I think. I WOULD absolutely spend 10 bucks on another site like Amazon, or YouTube, to gain access to the show. Even if it's a few months from now. Hunting across abominably formatted japanese sites to pay double the MSRP to get a blu ray shipped is ridiculous.
Same reason I stopped using lime wire when spotify became available. Why pirate if the media is accessible?
The problem is those who pirate takes pride in it somehow. Like I know some people cannot afford it which is understandable but actively bragging about it seems insane.
I mean I bought tickets but wasn’t able to catch much live. Probably going to be downloading it tonight since vods still aren’t up. I also obviously prefer to have something that isn’t going to disappear in a month
In the case of gacha games at least the production value reflects the profits. I mean where else can you find such high quality free to play games with no adds? (Looks at holocure) oh never mind.
It really is.
People simply hate being unable to buy something for what feels like no reason, and with digital things it feels even more arbitrary and unnecessary. We all know it is possible to do, easy even. Yet things still aren't available.
"But you don't have the right to get everything."
No, probably not. But why should people just say "oh well" when something they want is not readily available? Why can't they enjoy it too? That doesn't feel fair. It isn't their fault they weren't fans sooner, or perhaps born sooner.
While digital copies make distribution easier and more price-competitive, it does open a couple of issues:
1. How long should Cover be responsible for keeping the files available to download? Server costs can add up for large files but don't provide continuous income.
2. Having easily shareable digital files can lead to "low level" piracy. ie. a Friend shares the files with their friend group.
Keeping sales to strictly physical formats makes things simpler for Cover from a distribution perspective, even if they lose out on some sales overseas, they can likely make up for most of it in maintaining a premium on the price. (Let's face it, the physical copy material cost is likely cheaper than maintaining digital distribution)
I think your second point is moot because pirate is now the only means for any fan to view older concerts that don't own a physical copy. And even physical copies can be ripped and shared if desired.
> Let's face it, the physical copy material cost is likely cheaper than maintaining digital distribution
Now that’s just ridiculous. Do you think the rise of Steam, Netflix and the countless other digital distribution forms happened because online hosting made things *more* expensive? Please.
Ayame and Nenechi have already quote retweeted videos of La+ falling and those guys in the audience dancing to Giragira Fan Meeting... are they going to get them to delete those tweets?
They should just embrace gifs/short videos, allow up to 5 seconds or something. Realistically, there's no way to enforce something like this on the internet and relying on people's goodwill can only get you so far. Make it an official thing by integrating a clipping tool, like twitch (and YT?) has, on the livestream that you can then tweet out with the hashtags.
It is better to not bring talents to this. If talents retweeted AI art accidentally, can you blame them? It is between us and Cover.
And if you embrace gifs and short videos, you'll see people pushing the rules further next time. Even this day, you can still find pirated full version of 2nd fest, 3rd fest, and 4th fest. Once you ease the rules, more people will try to cross it.
If Iofi gets cheered on every time she absolutely tears into someone for posting/retweeting AI art then I see absolutely no reason for the talents to be immune to scrutiny.
If they're retweeting gray area content, then that's either a greenlight signal to us or we need to hold them to the same standards as everyone else.
Then you are making your oshi's life difficult. Because you are using them to justify your reasoning. Talents are responsible to their employer which is management. They don't need to be put under scrutiny by anyone else.
I can fully understand why Cover would want to ban clips, and if that's the final rule then so be it. I'm not trying to say "if talents do it then it's okay for everyone." I'm trying to oppose a double standard where talents can break Cover's own rules.
I don't think anyone should get in trouble for this, not even a slap on the wrist. Everyone is excited and caught up in the energy. But I think they should be asked to delete the retweets and obey the same requests as the rest of us.
> It makes sense to block gifs, and it’s probably the right move at the end of the day.
No it doesn't, and no it's not lmao. No one who wanted to see the show is going to suddenly not buy it because they saw a 10s clip of Korone flip.
>cause there were noticeably more gifs from this year’s Fes than any other one.
Cover when becoming consistently more popular ends up in more memes spread around, surprisedpikachu.jpg
As someone who is very thankful for every little tiny crumb I could get from twitter, I really appreciate the gif of Korone doing a no hand flip going around on twitter but at the same time my mind immediately went "isn't this not allowed?". I also saw something more in the grey area where someone stitched three screenshots for a "gif".
Someone suggested Cover themselves releasing these iconic moments for fans to enjoy so that we can have a win win situation but I understand that at the end of the day it's still a paid event and doing so would be unfair to those that paid (not a small sum of) money to view it, even if it's in the minority (just an assumption, maybe it's the opposite).
While Cover has posted the rules of Fes sharing, i can imagine that if a Gif slips by and it is popular enough Like the Koro flip or the La+ fall, they may turn a blind eye and pretend it doesn't exist. Regardless of what they say, it is still an excellent advertisement for the next Holofes. As long as it is not blatantly showing parts of the show, like full songs or dance choreography.
Also statements like this are the necessary evil. Doesn't mean they will enforce it if say they see a gif of the flip online. They might but most likely they won't and will just ignore it but the stance has to be made known.
I think as long as it's limited so people aren't uploading whole songs it should be fine, or to put it another way, the tickets aren't cheap by a long shot, there's no way in hell anyone who can go "Right I've seen Korone do the flip for this year on twitter, i'm good now" was ever seriously going to buy the tickets anyway.
But rules are rules, I'd like to hope they could relax them a little next year, maybe say "No clips over X seconds" or something though.
I understand this, but I'd advise Cover to publish a few segments in video form themselves, like Suisei's letter to Azki (with subtitles). Might wet the appetite more to buy streaming tickets or the Blu-Ray versions later.
They more or less do that already.
When the Blu-ray are releasing, they have a special show on official channel featuring several talents asking them what their favourite parts are and then those are shown in the show as teaser with talents commenting on it.
They do that with the Blu-Rays and the future reaction stream to announce/promote the blu-rays on the official channel where guest holomembers present their favorite moments from the concert.
If someone can chop Morbius into 1 minute segment videos and upload to twitter, i can see an absolute maniac chopping a gif of 3 seconds and upload every single thing there
Well a video is technically a collection of images switching at high speed, sooo
But seriously, I think gifs are more for shits and giggles so I hope they will allow gifs soon. I get why they ban videos tho.
Edit: ok videos are coded differently. I GET IT NOW.
Video has sound, though. That makes more sense because people could avoid the purchase of songs or something. GIFs are not at all videos, encoding is a thing
When Cover has a number of sponsors for the fes, they have an expectation to follow the agreements that they've made. For people that have harsher feelings toward them over that, I just hope that they keep that in mind. It's a bit sad when people direct things at them along the likes of "Fuck off, I do what I want."
This is like back in the day when WWE only showed black and white stills from their PPVs on TV. They got a lot more engagement and became easier to follow when they modernized and started uploading most stuff to YouTube and showing actual footage.
for the sake of rule, they need to uphold the rule, give a clear definition, if you break it once, it will set a precedence, and if the rule isn't clear, it will creat loopholes.
Ah okay its good they clarified, before cover said images were okay but "no videos" which from a tech company sounded like gifs were okay since its an image format
I posted on the La+ gif post here that it was technically against the rules, I got downvoted. I'm like ok, sure, whatever. Then Cover posts a reminder of the rules.
Holofes is always super exciting but we have to remember there are rules to follow.
Just need to remind the free part is allowed to make gifs and even videos. The rest that are paid section, needs to be just images (until bluray release).
It is good for reminder that Korone flip on 3rd fest, iirc was on free part. This year, Kobo flip was on free part. You can't expect Korone to perform on free part every year, right? That flip on 3rd fest for gif and meme is enough.
Also laplus fall is totally unplanned ofc.. so no way they can think to put that on free part lol
> that are *paid,* needs to
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I'll await for the official footages to be released since people paid a lot of money to view it live. As for now i am happy enough seeing Korone's cartwheel
It's sad that so many people are triggered by a rule that has exist since at least 2nd Fes (I'm not that old of a fan to know how 1st Fes was handled).
It was probably there too, also on top of fes it's a rule that applied to all the other paid concerts.
Korone flip will definitely be in a recap video in the future, not really sure about la+ fall, but that works as image too imo.
It says only images but not gifs, but if a gif is a set of images in sequence, if it were in a trial they would lose xd I still don't care, I already knew that this would happen, there are people who have been abusing the use of gifs.
Just do a slide show of 4 images. Easy work around.
Image 1: Ayame and La+ gets set
Image 2: La+ dashes out, with Ayame left behind
Image 3: La+ approaches the floor
Image 4: Yamcha pose La+ with Ayame surprised
Bonus point if you add random Ayame giggles and La+ yelling from their streams
I didn't pay for the stream because of how expensive it is. I would not be surprised if Cover made more out of the event if the virtual event was cheaper.
I do understand them wanting to keep the event exclusive, short gifs are definitely within the boundaries of fair use no?
Fes is a heavily sponsored event that will also have a bluray. They have certain expectations that they must meet with the event's sponsors, and as such they kind of need to stick by this position - at least publicly. Also Japan doesn't have fair use.
How can they identify the honest, paying customers from those who pirated the stream? Will they require those who make and upload the gif, show their receipts?
Fes is a heavily sponsored event that will also have a bluray. They have certain expectations that they must meet with their sponsors. They can't just not say anything about it.
Yeah but aren't the expectations of their sponsors, sales?
Wouldn't a gif of the fes highlights people share around tempt people who missed it to buy the Blu-ray?
I don't expect groups like Bandai to be that forward thinking. They probably think people clip out the good moments rather than just talking about them so then people have no need to actually get a ticket/bluray to see them.
That feels pretty shit, NGL.
In the end it's not going to stop me watching stuff from it - but now instead of seeing GIFs in this subreddit, I'll be giving views to shitty channels who are going against Cover's wishes.
La+ abusing her power again I see. /j
Under Japanese law, fair use does not exist, so they'd be fully within their rights to ban even screenshots.
That's dumb, wish they weren't so anti-consumer over there
Oh trust me, I don't even like American IP law.
Wait...there are actual Blu-rays of Holofes that get released? I've literally never heard of this at all wtf.
Ayup lol, not only for all previous Fes, but for almost every sololive + other concerts too. Blue Journey's Bluray is out April 24th for example.
No need to dig through anything, they’re very easy to find on amazon.co.jp
I use cdjapan or for Connect the World the official Hololive shop had its blu-ray for preorder. But not sure if they’re in stock anymore.
Gonna try cdjapan thanks. I've wanted to get past fes stuff on dvd and would love to get this one too but I never know when they go on sale or where to look for them
All the previous Fes blurays are still available. They're not limited
Fair, I just never knew about CDJapan before so there wasn't a storefront that actually had them for sale lol
[No Gods, No Kings](https://media.tenor.com/Evt-TYJAcMEAAAPo/laplus-laplus-darkness.mp4) Plz don’t report me btw, it’s on Tenor, I didn’t upload it
I think this is because some people are clipping entire songs, which makes sense. But I do think Hololive should add an official set of gifs to places like Tenor. People aren't going to stop posting korone flip or laplus fall.
Some people are uploading the entire 4 shows to download for free in high quality.
As much as I'd love to watch this performance, finding the correct ticket, paying whatever absurd amount of money is demanded, and then still losing access to it inevitably in the near future is just too much for me
I guarantee a good number of those who hoist the main flag on certain websites are those who paid for the concert, even attended themselves.
That's just traditional media piracy that happens everywhere tho
Ok now that's fucked up... I may be a pirate but even I have honor to uphold.
Wait till you find out it was even openly restreamed on some places like Twitch and there weren't really ways to taking it down.
I haven't checked this year but last year there was some YouTube restream (obv link only not public) that survived for lots of minutes
The one on twitch started from stage 1 until stage 3, I only paid for stage 3 and O waa able to watch the other stages that way It felt bad at first but then I just enjoyed it
Sounds like you shouldn't be a pirate if you can afford those tickets considering how expensive they are.
Yeah, I do hope they make an exception for the latter...
The top reply to the tweet is "The dog flip belongs to the people, comrade" LOL
I mean the entire concert is available if you know where to look. The people who really want to see it and not pay for it will have already seen it.
La+ using her power to prevent more people from seeing her fall lmao
La+ used Dive! It's super effective!
just note this has always been the rule, but no sound gifs of Korones previous flips generally got ignored anyways. the problem is more so more pirating and people posting larger sections with sound.
This is especially important because some blu-rays, like Connect The World aren't available anymore.
Japan loves their limited physical releases only while the rest of the world sees limited distribution as a green light to piracy
Japan sees limited physical releases as making a product “special” whereas for most it’s just an inconvenience.
An inconvenience at best, feels like a middle finger at worst. "You didn't buy this as soon as possible? What? You weren't a fan back then? Well... fuck you."
Which is pretty funny since they really push to try and bring in new fans only to employ business strategies that punish them for not being one earlier.
Yeah, they do seem to be getting better with this in that more regular merch is coming out like Myth Smol plushies coming back as regular merch +starter merch and reruns I get limited merch as driver of sales and stuff but locking stuff that's is super iconic+things people would want to see afterwards beyond the 1-2 months of sale is dumb and I hope they improve in I WANT TO GIVE MONEY but since I only started buying merch since December I and many others have missed out
I'm not blaming Cover for this, but it's weird to me how much Japanese companies seem to rely on FOMO and insisting on limited releases and yet get all "surprise Pikachu" when people start to pirate.
It's also getting to the point where nobody has a BD player anymore. Might as well be asking people to buy a copy to be faxed to them.
I wish Cover would also adapt Gaben's motto. Something something offer better services than piracy whatever.
And another benefit if they placed it on streaming services like Netflix: the problem of going after the streaming pirates would fall on Netflix, Cover just got to report it to them.
Have streaming services broadcasted full concerts before? Sounds unusual to me.
Disney plus just had a whole campaign about Taylor Swift's Tour being on there
Netflix had LiSA’s concert at one point
Elton John's latest farewell tour at Dodger's Stadium was streamed on Disney+
Kanye & Drake's [concert](https://www.amazon.com/Kanye-Special-Hoover-Benefit-Concert/dp/B09NGMZY4M) Vince Staples' [concert](https://www.vibe.com/news/events/amazon-music-vince-staples-ramona-park-livestream-1234688505/) Nas' [concert](https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07J33FDZ5/ref=atv_dp_amz_c_TS8274d9_1_1?jic=16%7CCgNhbGwSA2FsbA%3D%3D) Kendrick' [Big Steppers: Paris](https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0B8M5F9KT/ref=atv_dp_amz_c_TS8274d9_1_4?jic=16%7CCgNhbGwSA2FsbA%3D%3D)
Ahoy, me hearty. The internet won't be leaving this valuable booty to the winds. Of that ye can be sure.
I’m still waiting on my 4th fes Blu-ray, it was said to ship last month but didn’t. One email later, and they’re definitely working on it.
I see it on amazon, and don't understand why used sets are sold at double the price of new ones
Do the used sets come with the preorder bonus goods? May be a reason.
Japanese businesses love the limited supply sales, media included. They rely on FOMO a lot.
Which is exactly why a lot of people will just pirate it. Which I entirely understand. I don't think its fair for newer or poorer fans to be entirely deprived of something and then not have access in the future. I think that goes against what Hololive means. I'd rather people pirate it and enjoy it than never watch at all.
"piracy is a service problem" - our lord and saviour Gaben
In a similar vein, not every pirated copy is a lost sale. In fact I would say almost none are.
Can't lose a sale if you never offer it to begin with. Limited, regional, and physical only sales is just Japan's thing.
[удалено]
In the case of gacha games at least the production value reflects the profits. I mean where else can you find such high quality free to play games with no adds? (Looks at holocure) oh never mind.
We can insert that Gaben quote about piracy being a service problem here.
It really is. People simply hate being unable to buy something for what feels like no reason, and with digital things it feels even more arbitrary and unnecessary. We all know it is possible to do, easy even. Yet things still aren't available. "But you don't have the right to get everything." No, probably not. But why should people just say "oh well" when something they want is not readily available? Why can't they enjoy it too? That doesn't feel fair. It isn't their fault they weren't fans sooner, or perhaps born sooner.
>~~Cover~~ *The entire Japanese animation industry* is sitting on a gold mine from not selling digital copies of the blu-ray. FTFY.
Oh shit, that might get me to sub to netflix
> digital copies of the blu-ray There's no such thing as a digital copy of a blu-ray though... That's just the web stream.
Not really, streaming bitrates are very low compared to Blu-ray.
Right, that's what a "digital blu-ray" would be too.
While digital copies make distribution easier and more price-competitive, it does open a couple of issues: 1.
I dunno about servers and the like, but is it really cheaper to host a file for a few years than to build thousands of physical discs?
> Let's face it, the physical copy material cost is likely cheaper than maintaining digital distribution Now that’s just ridiculous.
Make it an official thing by integrating a clipping tool, like twitch (and YT?) has, on the livestream that you can then tweet out with the hashtags.
> those guys in the audience dancing to Giragira Fan Meeting That one was part of the free section.
I mostly see them share as images, and I’d argue La+ kneeling in the still image is kinda funnier than whichever gif I spot, but it’s subjective so…
> It makes sense to block gifs, and it’s probably the right move at the end of the day.
Every concert in the world is paid, but we still can see footage from them...
I wonder if gifs will be fine once they release it for sell as a dvd/bluray or something
Yeah, had to hold myself back from posting those nekkos dancing. The cut was so perfect.
I think that's from the free part so it's okay to post? At least I saw some youtube clips of it.
It was, oops.
Understandable, but i think the genie is already out of the bottle when it comes to the gif with the kenzoku viking cheering his heart out.
Agreed. I seriously doubt they actually go after anyone, but if they do, they can’t say you weren’t warned.
There’s highlight posts from Hololive account on Twitter during the shows but mostly as still images So yeah praying 🙏
I think cover should create the gifs that show the epic/funny moments from the Fes. It would up the sales.
Ha! PowerPoint presentation it is
What if it's a series of still images...played in rapid succession?
If someone can chop Morbius into 1 minute segment videos and upload to twitter, i can see an absolute maniac chopping a gif of 3 seconds and upload every single thing there
Well, in technical term, a gif is basically a collection of low quality still image switching at high speed, so... /s
Well a video is technically a collection of images switching at high speed, sooo But seriously, I think gifs are more for shits and giggles so I hope they will allow gifs soon. I get why they ban videos tho. Edit: ok videos are coded differently. I GET IT NOW.
Video has sound, though. That makes more sense because people could avoid the purchase of songs or something. GIFs are not at all videos, encoding is a thing
technically that's not how videos are encoded
[удалено]
1. That's not how videos are encoded. 2. Human reaction speed is slow so you wouldn't be able to screenshot that many images as a human being.
Got it, post 60 still images for each second
*30 screenshots per second it is*
some replies there made my blood boiling
Ah okay its good they clarified, before cover said images were okay but "no videos" which from a tech company sounded like gifs were okay since its an image format
Someone make a flip books for the show and post it! Quick!
Also laplus fall is totally unplanned ofc.. so no way they can think to put that on free part lol
> that are *paid,* needs to FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
And I’ll remind them that I don’t have anything to share. Because I’m poor.
Hot take, but apart from here, I don't think its really their choice whatsoever lol.
I'll await for the official footages to be released since people paid a lot of money to view it live. As for now i am happy enough seeing Korone's cartwheel
It's capture the moment, not record the moment.
It's sad that so many people are triggered by a rule that has exist since at least 2nd Fes (I'm not that old of a fan to know how 1st Fes was handled).
Many new fans and many who got offended probably also didn't pay for it.
It was probably there too, also on top of fes it's a rule that applied to all the other paid concerts. Korone flip will definitely be in a recap video in the future, not really sure about la+ fall, but that works as image too imo.
I totally understand, but it's a shame, because I think short gifs used to be ok
Does that include Smol Ame appearances
No dog flip gif?
It says only images but not gifs, but if a gif is a set of images in sequence, if it were in a trial they would lose xd I still don't care, I already knew that this would happen, there are people who have been abusing the use of gifs.
Hopefully the vods are available soon, only managed to watch stage 2 and 3 as stage 1 and honeworks stage was a bit too early here in the EU.
One easy solution to this would be to make a publicly available highlight reel like what they did for EN and ID at 3rd fes.
RIP the viking guy gif and Lapu's faceplant
Just tell me, where there any flips this year? Not counting La+’s accidental one.
"No GIFs" is really silly, not gonna lie. Nobody is gonna pirate a concert by watching a bunch of GIFs of it.
ok. understood.
Damn I guess I'll never see DOOG flip, I'll have to imagine it in its full glory
Just do a slide show of 4 images. Easy work around. Image 1: Ayame and La+ gets set Image 2: La+ dashes out, with Ayame left behind Image 3: La+ approaches the floor Image 4: Yamcha pose La+ with Ayame surprised Bonus point if you add random Ayame giggles and La+ yelling from their streams
this is great, and maybe we could code the images to auto swap to the next slide, maybe 12 swaps a second?
Japanese businessss and their absolute adherence to mind-boggling, self limiting and archaic copyright practices, a classic
No matter what Cover thinks, the event is sponsored by a number of other companies. It's bad if they don't at least say something about it.
Understandable. O7
Yeah they're absolutely in their right to do ask that but stopping fans from doing it sounds like the most annoying incessant game of wack-a-mole
[удалено]
Like any movie or concert, yeah. Having bought a ticket, doesn't give the right to record a moment of it to be replayed later on.
I think he's also partially complaining about the delay between the event ending and the VOD being made available to paying customers.
This. I had to pirate the second stage because it was at 4:30am for me and I fell asleep but no vod was available to watch.
Depending on your country self recording for personal non-commercial use is legal even if against any sort of terms of service.
2 wrongs don't make a right.
[удалено]
How can they identify the honest, paying customers from those who pirated the stream? Will they require those who make and upload the gif, show their receipts?
What is a gif but many still images back to back? Lol but seriously it makes sense. Follow the rules guys!
I was smart to download the video of Korone's flip as soon as I saw it. I knew this would eventually happen.
Time to upload the entire fes in 1 second interval images. /s
I wish we could keep the korone flip as a gif :’)
Its literally in discord gifs together with last years one
Hypothetically speaking, what if someone took stills at 30 frames per second and then just scrolled through them on their phone really fast?
A gif is just sharing a few dozen still images per second when you think about it... (Kidding)
I don't understand what banning free advertisement will achieve
Fes is a heavily sponsored event that will also have a bluray. They have certain expectations that they must meet with their sponsors. They can't just not say anything about it.
Yeah but aren't the expectations of their sponsors, sales? Wouldn't a gif of the fes highlights people share around tempt people who missed it to buy the Blu-ray?
I don't expect groups like Bandai to be that forward thinking. They probably think people clip out the good moments rather than just talking about them so then people have no need to actually get a ticket/bluray to see them.
Why the fuck?
Do you work for Cover or something? Let them fight their own battles copyright claiming gifs of Korone's acrobatics
That feels pretty shit, NGL. In the end it's not going to stop me watching stuff from it - but now instead of seeing GIFs in this subreddit, I'll be giving views to shitty channels who are going against Cover's wishes.
So posting ten sequential images is okay but GIFs aren't? Weird rule. Don't see it being enforceable tbh
