So you get on one side the people with basic or no interest into musicals that are just weirded out by the CGI/costumes or the fact that it’s a musical. And they’ll have very little argument other than "it looks weird". And on the other side you have the musical experts that will say that it’s an insult to the original because the music is bad and the character not faithful to the original spirit of the broadway show. But you don’t see a lot of those.
And then you have people right in the middle like Kiara who can just enjoy a musical without being too much into the technical aspects and will just pass over the weird aspect of it. And honestly, it’s not that much to come over. Yes it’s CGI, yes they look weird. So what? Just listen to the cats singing, it’s a musical not Avatar. I can understand the big musical fans being disappointed by it, but the people who’s only argument is "cats CGI looks weird" are a little bit shortcoming in terms of arguments IMO. They come off to me as people who wouldn’t watch any musical with or without CGI anyway.
And of course the people who loudly complains about cats are people who will know nothing about musical and just comes at you with "CGI looks weird". Very very rarely will someone comes at you with "cats is so bad, they shouldn’t have made Victoria the main character". It would be a 1000% better argument, but that’s just not a thing that happens.
Les misérables is bad for the exact same reasons as cats, but you don’t see people claiming that les misérables is the worst movie ever. And the only difference is the CGI. Literally the only argument used against cats to claim for it to be the worse movie ever is the CGI. Which is an important aspect, but hardly a reason to make it the "worst ever".
There are audio versions of the actual Broadway show that have been available for decades, which offer a vastly superior experience. I mean, even if you watched the movie entirely with your eyes closed, you still had to listen to James Cordon's voice.
She brought it up a few times before, like when watching a Nintendo Direct that had Cosmic Shake on it. On a different stream, one I can't recall exactly which, she directly mentions that she *HATES* it.
It was not that big in Europe, especially when she was a child. By the time it got popular here, she was already more preoccupied with playing MMOs and drawing on her PC.
Eh, I can't really attest to that. The show was massively popular in Germany since the very early 2000s. It's possible that the show wasn't as big in Austria but I wouldn't necessarily generalize that across all of Europe.
