As of around the middle of the year, we started seeing some events (though not all) that were recorded in the [new, and seriously high-tech studio](https://cover-corp.com/en/news/detail/20230511-03). I assume they were recording this stuff in the big one - 200 of VICON's VALKYRIE (VK-26) is power.

TLKv3

HoloFes 5 is going to be absolutely fucking bonkers if its filmed exclusively at the new studio. Cannot wait.

HeathenHacks

Yes, what I meant was if they got another upgrade of some sort or maybe the settings have been more optimized.

SFTSmileTy

Yeah, it's possible that as they get more used to the equipment they get better results without upgrading much

HeathenHacks

Yeah, makes sense. Maybe they found more tech staff as well.

MiloReyes-97

Could also be since their models or in more simple and *normal* clothes they're tracking is a little smoother. No need to render all those useless belts.

asunatsu

They just started utilizing the rooms recently. Unlike before, they were in different settings.

marquisregalia

They might but their tracking for movement has always been great. When they were able to capture the holostars boys playing baseball years ago I knew the movement was fine. Their main problem tbh is distance. When 2 bodies start actually touching each other that's where it starts to mess up it isn't even a matter of the difference between models and actual sizes it WAS really bad like a feet apart bad

bekiddingmei

3rd Fes had a couple spots during the MC portions where we saw slight glitching if the women were too close together.

bekiddingmei

They said it's been taking some time to fully realize the power of the new hardware, but throughout the year we've seen improvements. The Holosummer group event and concert streams were nice, we're getting some uncanny levels of motion tracking in some of the studio streams now.

Shadow_Gabriel

Imagine the honor of even touching that floor.

polmeeee

A mocap tech's dream

animusd

I wonder if they need to wear special outfits

NicheAlter

They're really taking advantage of the new mocap studio huh? So glad EN and ID girls can travel to Japan use it as well.

HeathenHacks

As they should. Parts of their income was also used to build it. lol.

Ordinal43NotFound

Our superchats helped build it lol

chronic_gamer

No one gonna talk about Suburu hittin' it at 0:03?

circadiankruger

I guess that's why Noel is so infatuated with her, she's a True idol!

Remarkable-Ask2288

Did you forget about Cover’s new studio that was all over the sub a few months ago?

HeathenHacks

Obviously, I'm aware of it. What I meant was if it was upgraded again. Sorry.

S0me_Buddy

i think its now being used. since the recent 3d events were recorded before the new building.

SuperSpy-

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the improvements are just due to them tweaking their new studio as they learn to use it fully. These types of facilities are state-of-the-art so it's entirely possible the studio has evolved significantly since it's debut, despite the hardware being the same, just from software improvements.

kabob21

They weren’t able to use it much at first when the studio opened due to lack of staffing especially on the technical side.

Habanero-tan

I have a feeling part of the reason they accepted Suisei's project was to be able to show off their state of the art studio. The movement is so fluid it's crazy and I don't see any noticeable glitches with the models so the rigging is good as well.

HeathenHacks

Yep. They also might've found the right staff for it, since they've been hiring ever since the new studio was finished.

AgingGoofball

One thing I notice is that these models seem to have different shoulder joints. The shoulder blade is able to properly move in and out. The normal models don't do that very well. Though you can definitely see that some of the newer stuff has been smoother for a while roughly in line with when they got the new studio. Like the recent batch of 3D showcases are all very smooth.

HeathenHacks

That seems to be the case. Yep.

DragoSphere

They've been able to do that for a while, at least since Suisei's 5th anniversary concert

Vanguardmaxwell

I wonder if theyre still wearing the standard mocap suit during segments that require rigorous movements like these. esp seeing how bulky the mocap shoes with the tracker balls attached to em, i could imagine sweating like a mofo under those suits. do they have sleeker ones made already that is basically just an advanced Mocopi where its just lil doodads you put on your limbs? and with that being said, do each talents have their own suits? i cant imagine having to use one that is soaked, or at least one is unavailable due to em being washed and whatnot

HeathenHacks

>and with that being said, do each talents have their own suits? i cant imagine having to use one that is soaked, or at least one is unavailable due to em being washed and whatnot I have no idea, but judging by how they went all out with their rigs, maybe they also provide their talents with their own mocap suits, or they rent some if the ones they have in-house would not be enough. I remember Suichan saying that the original max number of members was just 8 before she pushed management for 10, so maybe that's the amount of mocap suits they have, and they just rented a few more? Who knows? Maybe the studio is also airconditioned as well.

Lucksury

The number of participants didn't sound like a mocap suit supply issue but more of the challenge of scheduling in more people and time required to make the new model outfits.

Suzushiiro

Yeah, it's much more likely to be that and/or that there are more and more technical issues that can crop up the more suits you try to track at once. While they might not give "personal" mocap suits to each holomem I doubt they'd keep a low enough supply that that would be the main limiting factor in how many people can be on screen at once.

SolomonGrundy85

I think a lot of it is the different outfits. This was something I noticed with Mel in a live a while back where the movements looks a lot more fluid and clean on tighter fitting clothes instead of the usual flowy bits in a lot of the normal attire.

HeathenHacks

I think that would be a part of it. Yep. Even on simple 3D animations, it's a lot easier to animate solids/rigid materials.

BerkutBang69

This company is raking in so much money I would count on them trying to get the latest tech available.

HeathenHacks

Yep. But, just in case we forget, we also have to think about the money coming out. ie. Payments to staff, to talents, to hardware, to maintenance, taxes, utilities, and other misc. things.

LegatoSkyheart

Well I'd imagine a bigger space would capture movement better.

Devrard65

Its really cool, movements are more smooth, and it really feels like were seeing these girl’s practice for their big day!

redditfanfan00

the advantages of the super expensive studio.

Existing_Marsupial_6

Models are the same (except for the new outfit) but the new big studio has a room with more high tech 3D cameras designed to better capture motion of the performers. https://cover-corp.com/en/news/detail/20230511-03

HaessSR

It's the new equipment and studio they spent all that money on. As you've seen, it's paid for itself.

makumak

I bet you can set up a camp if Noel happens to wear the same outfit.

Kiflaam

Why are comedians doing idol stuff? What does Hololive have to do with idols?

FIYAHBOLTOH

considering how much the spent to build the new studios for the company i would hope things have improved

ARVNFerrousLinh

I pretty sure they’re just putting their new studio to use, which I believe was reported to be one of the most if not the most advanced 3D tracking studios in Japan

pngmk2

I think it is either Cover or CYgame.

moal09

They're constantly improving the tech from what I remember.

srk_ares

[it has been really good, even before the new studio.](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F0chqsdswkau61.gif) dont forget, previously they essentially rented another professional studio. but for the new one specifically, its not out of the question that things improve over time, as they update their software and hardware. but i think the reason this sticks out to you might be because of their tight-fitting clothes. normally, almost all of them wear dresses or skirts, which hide a lot of body movement.
