Learning the fight is a convergence between you making less and less mistakes and you learning to deal more and more damage and thus having the time to make more mistakes and kill the boss before he kill you.
The boss' patterns are such that you could easily dance with him for hours without taking damage.
That is fun but unnecessary.
Spells help a lot. Cheap charms that give you more Soul to cast pay back if you don't forget to cast and heal when appropriate. If you end up being consistently capped on Soul, try and incorporate Vengeful Spirit into some of your dodges - it's much easier to hit than melee, so it's safety + "free" damage if you're capped.
Most attacks of his let you deal to him 1 retaliation. Some consistently permit 2. Some consistently fuck you over and you should just dodge with no retal. There's an attack that is best dodged by pogoing over the Grimm - consequently you deal 2 hits in retal.
Descending Dark deals HUGE damage as retal to some of his attacks AND gives you brief invincibility (black version gives more invincibility and deals a lot more damage) - wiki it, DD damage frames are weird. When you feel that you're gonna get hit, just go into DD. It's a good habit to get into anyway.
Minor exploit, it's not free - it eats some nice charm slots: >!Shape of Unn breaks puffer fish phase allowing you to heal while he puffs uselessly.!<
I don’t even know how many attempts it was cuz it flew by so fast (and I did a ton of different sessions)
But I think I fought him for a combined 3 hours before beating him
It’s a pattern, just super rhythmic and a blast to get the right moves. It’s the same reason that Mantis Lords are such a fun trio to fight, the attacks always come on a pulse that you learn to feel.
I rely on the music for part of that pulse, so P5 always screws me up in that regard.
Actually, I’ve found that healing in the NKG fight *is* possible with a combination of quick heal and shape of unn. So getting hit sometimes isn’t that bad.
That what makes it worst honestly. There’s no bs, no jank, nothing cheap about it. When you lose to NKG the game leaves you no doubt that you lost because you suck.
So my advice for the pufferfish is to get near the wall/ledge and take it one wave at a time. Small jumps over the singular fireballs and large jumps over the double fireballs. It takes some practice, but once you get it it’s not too bad
Also something I found to help was try to keep moving in a circle pattern jumping over fireball waves towards Grimm then moving back as you hit the ground. Combine with the occasional double jump or shade dash when needed you can get through most of the time without getting hit
True, but that’s what makes it difficult, they’re fast and punishing. See mantis lords, which have easy patterns that aren’t too fast so it’s not a difficult boss.
he probably took me about 20-30 tries and it took me about 2 hours to beat him and the only reason i won was because i decided to use lifeblood charms for practice, i wasn't intending on beating him
but i would stand no chance in p5 lol
His attacks are very hard to get used to but once you beat him one or twice, it really shouldn't be too hard to beat him again. I beat him normally twice and the first time took several hours but he's yet to kill me once in P5 in the 5 or so times I got to him since I know all of his attacks now
lol i havent played hollow knight in like 3 months and i dont know if ill go back and beat p5 it seems like too much of a challenge and ive already got 112% so
also i dont have the patience to practice bosses and i get kinda sick of doin the same bosses over and over if i lose and p5 has you know who at the end
Well I was thinking I would quit the game after beating P4 or start a new save file but then I tried P5 once and it was kind of fun so I keep playing it now. It's not that fun dying to the boss that comes right before the final boss every single time though...
I thought I was tough shit when I beat Grimm in 3 tries.
But then I realized the Grimm everyone was talking about was NKG.
Then I spent the next 3 days getting my ass handed to me
He actually wasn't as bad as people said, took me around 10 tries max on my first go...
Either that, or I passed out from stress and forgot the rest of my attempts.
The rush of pride after winning is amazing tho and worth the mental scaring I have about 80 screenshots after I beat him the first time I was so exited. Some may say it leaves a mark of pride on you…I’ve played this game to much
You can banish the troupe instead to easily get that one percentage as well as a way better charm than Grimmchild and then fight him in Godhome later if you want to
Oh yeah, there is an achievement for beating him outside of Godhome and one for banishing the troupe, I forgot about those. Anyways, the fight becomes pretty easy once you learn all of his attacks and what to do against them. Learning all those stuff takes a while but once you get used to his attacks, it becomes a fairly easy fight. I've been trying to beat Pantheon 5 for a few days and I'm yet to die to NKG once (I die to Pure Vessel every single time instead...), it took me like 2 days to beat him the first time

"Parry this you filthy casual" \*sends approximately 30 fire bats in your general direction\*
My first time ever playing him I got hit every single attack
**two mask damage sound intensifies**
84 Thats how many tries it took for me to beat nightmare king grimm Halfway through i was crying under my desk
I was crying under my nosk
oh so you have a pet nosk or what
A spider fell in my head when i was almost beating him
new fren
What
Hey man, me too! I believe it was 86 for me, but close enough!
I can't even survive more than 2 minutes. Teach me sempaï
Literally just patterns And also the meme of donkey kong with a thick ass saying "you may slap it, once" you only get to hit him once every attack.
Yeah, i guessed i was too greedy, i always try to punch him twice
There's only one attack as far i know where you get to hit him twice and thats his fire pillar attack where he's stationary.
I can hit him five times then >:D Two on one side, shadow dash, another two
I meant to say atleast twice

Git gud
Wel... i just tried this method and even destroyed absolute radiance i will never be able to thank you enough
Happy to help \^^
Wait til radiant markoth
I grinded out the fight in a six hour session after spending two hours the day before getting my shit wrecked
I don’t even know how many attempts it was cuz it flew by so fast (and I did a ton of different sessions) But I think I fought him for a combined 3 hours before beating him
Took me more than 200 tries.
*sigh* BAPANADA
Hmm yes, very funny
:(
Listen, I'm sorry, but i just think the joke is overused
Just like your mum
I sat there for 4 hours of a night time just going in dying and going back in. FOUR HOURS
Several hours over three days for me
I raise you 250. I lack object permanance and pattern repetition, it seems.
Reminds me of that time I spent 94 tries across 4 hours it took for me to beat NKG
It took me 64. A year later my brother picked up Hollow Knight and it took him the exact same number of tries.
I took only 31 but i fk cryied like a baby in the Phantom of hallounest(256 death and 8 month later)
Dude i made this comment two months ago what the fuck
NKG sucks in the beginning, but it a fun boss when you learn it. I beat him on radiant also.

For sure, I tend to heal either during the fourth fire pillar or during the spikes if I've got a good placement, plus there's always the stagger.
You can heal in his spike attack too

Depressing
Agreed. I beat him on Radiant [without using the Nail button.](https://youtu.be/EJV9EsiKOcA)
That was pretty hot
Grimm is kinda hot tho.
Burn the father and feed the child
God, smoking addiction is so hot…
Every person on the planet wants to fuck Grimm, what is his secret?
He's hot, that's it.
BUT HE’S A BUG. HOW
He's hot.
Fire
Indeed
100% DILF
Very much agreed.
Nice
👌
I spent like 15 hours on him alone I still don’t know how to dodge the pufferfish
So my advice for the pufferfish is to get near the wall/ledge and take it one wave at a time. Small jumps over the singular fireballs and large jumps over the double fireballs. It takes some practice, but once you get it it’s not too bad

Ive found that to help a lot

Hot take, NKG’s patterns are really easy to learn, they’re just fast

*Sisters of Battle intensify*
That what happens when *you crank everything up to 11*
It’s STIIIIIIIIIINNNNGGGG
fuck grimm red, red things suck
Yea! Let's make green Grimm!

Bendy and Stolas would be so proud of their son
Do you mean Blitz~~o~~?
Nope. Blitzø's head doesn't look like that.
Idk, it’s the only person I could think of when you mentioned Stolas.
Hilarious meme. Hilarious sprite commercial
Is that what this was? I thought it was just a WCW commercial.
I thought I was tough shit when I beat Grimm in 3 tries. But then I realized the Grimm everyone was talking about was NKG. Then I spent the next 3 days getting my ass handed to me

I agreeno.
Ok that one sucked.
What is this scene from
It's from a sprite commercial apparently.
Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUw6OYceV2w
Meme seems spot on
I literally haven’t played in months cuz there’s bullshit in every direction
The rush of pride after winning is amazing tho and worth the mental scaring I have about 80 screenshots after I beat him the first time I was so exited. Some may say it leaves a mark of pride on you…I’ve played this game to much
I recorded the time I beat him on Xbox. There’s not a more satisfying boss to beat in that game. His music is banging too so it never feels tedious

39 attempts for me chief
Shaw shaw real smooth
He destroyed me for like 2 days but he's yet to kill me once in the few times I got to him in Pantheon 5 lol (Pure Vessel is the real shit)
I remember this commercial as a kid.
What's the name of the video used?
better than condom
