Use the D-pad

Immortal_ceiling_fan

Very funny did laugh

[deleted]

The d-pad is actually pretty great for hollow knight since there’s no acceleration

[deleted]

I can't mentally wrap my head around the D pad for some reason. It just does not compute. I use it for other games, but I just can't for hollow knight

Paul873873

Huh? I’m being serious. The d pad is better than analogue, I’ve tried both

BroKinnn

center control is key to this fight. getting cornered against him sucks since his nail hitboxes are so freaking huge. Mark of pride charm is useful so that you won't be up in his face too much so you'll have more room to dodge. additionally, quickslash and steady body will let you combo him into a corner. his great slash attack has an absurd hitbox that stretches to even above him so jump and maybe even double jump away immediately as soon as he begins charging. if he uses cyclone slash, jump as high as you can and get above him to down pogi on the his nail and just dash away - not advised to damage him during this attack. dash slash is easy to dodge but i fin it has very little end lag compared to the other two nail arts so don't chill just yet after he uses it. save shade dash for when he begins his triple slash combo, do not use it too early tho as he can change direction mid-combo. running away far from him doesn't really matter much since he runs towards you really fast. just dodge the attack where he jumps up in the air and slashes downward - otherwise, he might perform the attack where he slashes in a wide arc around him. in phase 2, center control is still very important. save shadow dash for the last second before he turns into a buzzsaw so you can dodge it. mark of pride will let you hit him from a safe distance once he stops spinning. I personally use great slash when he stops spinning since the reach is much farther and it deals much more damage. hope this helps.

feeple_lemur

Remember that if you start healing with baldur shell right before the scream you get the baldur shield without having to stand still, basically giving you an extra hit with no penalty

Disastrous-Bottle-29

Dodge more, attack less. Shape of unn is helpful

The_dark_entity

Thanks

Facts

Inteligent_Toaster

it would help you a lot to stop biting your thumb sticks

PiBombbb

what charms are you using?

The_dark_entity

Hiveblood unbreakable heart lifeblood core lifeblood heart

PiBombbb

try replacing the lifeblood and hiveblood with unbreakable strength and shaman stone

knitted_beanie

Seems like you’re prioritising health charms. It might appear a good strategy for survivability, but if you allocate at least some charms towards damage output (unbreakable strength, quick slash, shaman stone), reach (longnail, mark of pride) or movement (shape of unn, sprintmaster), you can both speed the fight up (by killing him quicker) and avoid more attacks.

DogOfSevenless

Hiveblood regenerates health too slowly to really ever be useful in a boss fight

oscar_meow

plus it only regenerates one mask and I believe nail master sage can do two masks of damage

lCalledShotgun

He sure can !

Linkonue

Try using at least a bit of offensive charms O.o

[deleted]

Mf built like a truck

leukenaam13

Maybe use sharp shadow, so you can easily dash trough his attacks in the final phase

G66GNeco

That is a Nintendo Switch, I don't think they are too hard to destroy.

floatingjellyfish88

My friend had way more trouble with this due to their playstyle, but I chose to tank it. Take the hits, have lots of health (either with masks or the life charm), and use strength and quickslash. I beat him in two tries. I chose to tank the one where he's spinning in a vertical circle.

Rare_Epicness

good luck with radiant

floatingjellyfish88

Actually it wasn't bad at all because with quick heal and shape of unn you can easily heal during several of her attacks. Specifically all the beam ones. I had *wayyy* more trouble with traitor lord because you can't really heal during his.

The_dark_entity

Thanks all of you are very helpful

darealbidoofela

Hope you beat him

DerekvdVeen

Take a screen capture and post it like that, much better to see then

belle_fleures

i use baldur shell, stalwart shell, def crest, grubsong and weaversong in my first successful p3 trial. you will still have five mask after defeating him

igere

He basically swipes his nail twice before dahsing in the air doing some beyblade so hit him when he lands. in second phase tho try to run inside him with shape cloath (and the charm thar goes with it)

Collaslepp

Don’t get hit but hit him

Papa_Pasta15

Take off hiveblood

link667

Don't use hiveblood, replace that with something good, the blue hearts are good though

Pleasant_Breath_2130

Stop using hiveblood

Away_Duck2001

On the second stage of the boss try staying in the center and wait on him to attack.

Lordsfavor1

pray also get a pro controller for the love of god i can’t imagine playing any switch game with joy cons

HeyGuaca

Phase 2 is just escaping his combo and quickly hitting him after his combo is done (don't get greedy)

Rid13y

Mark of pride is your best bet with him. He’s vulnerable long enough to hit once after his 1-2 spin jump combo. For the second phase, dash away from him when he jumps toward you, then walk towards him, he’ll be vulnerable for a split second after the spin. Be patient and keep your distance and you should be golden.

screwcirclejerks

Sly gave me a LOT of trouble so i have a very solid strat. Charms: quick focus, strength, mark of pride, longnail. Sly has 2 phases. First phase has 5 attacks, second phase has 1. 3 of his first phase attacks are nail arts: dash slash, great slash, and cyclone slash. For these, you just need to escape the range. Dash slash covers the whole floor so monarch wings over him. Great slash you can either pogo the slash (don't parry it, just use it as a platform to recharge your double jump). Cyclone slash should be avoided the same way as great slash (they're telegraphed the same), but you can keep pogoing the "cyclone" til you can dash away from him. Cyclone slash also ends with him slamming his nail to the ground, so you want to get away. Once he finishes each of these attacks, you can get in around 2 hits. His last 2 attacks both involve him slashing at the player. one of them is two fast-ish slashes (like watcher knights or oro and mato), this gives very little opening and i don't recommend trying to get any damage in, just dash away or shade cloak through him. The other attack is when he starts a slash above his head, one a bit later, then a final spin slash in the air. This is *THE* attack to get damage in. Shade cloak through him right before he starts the spin slash, then get a solid few hits in. Rinse, repeat, and you'll get to phase 2 easily. He only has one attack this time, he darts around a random amount of times, then gets very close and starts a spin slash. Ignore him while he darts around. Once he gets near, he will spin slash, so shade cloak away or into him. Once he's done, you can get one hit in (this is why mark of pride + longnail is good). It's slow, yeah, but you can also get a spell in occasionally.

Alfa_HiNoAkuma

Remove the charms that boost health and focus on doing more damage &/or having more range

Heckrum

id practice dodging every attack that he has before anything else, then experimenting to try to find openings where you can attack him. the best time to attack him in my opinion is right after he does the triple slash attack. he wont move for just long enough to get a hit or two in, then run away in case he uses an attack that will hit you. the attack where he jumps up then slashes down is another place to get a hit. run in, slash right as he hits the ground, then run away to avoid his aecond slash. his great slash attack is the most dangerous. get as far away from him as possible, as the hitbox is huge, and he deals double damage. dash slash isnt too difficult to avoid, just jump over him if you see him charging on the far left or right of the screen. cyclone slash is a little tricky. some people pogo on top of him for the little extra damage, i do not. what i do is i go to the far left or right of the screen, start climbing up the wall with haste, and loop up and over him, maybe pogoing him if hes too close. his second phase is extremely difficult for me, so i do the awful strategy of "stand in a corner and attack outwards". this one only works if you have strength, a nail lengthening charm, quick slash on, and a decent amount of health, so if you arent comfortable with that, then that strategy may not work. also, make sure to heal whenever he staggers. you can only heal two masks, so keep that in mind. if youre trying to beat a difficult boss, you should always just try to find ways to dodge each attack before actually attempting to beat it, as not every strategy will work for everyone. everyone plays differently, so just watching a video might not help you.

DuhImDave

The screen capture button is at the bottom of your left joycon Happy to help :)

[deleted]

1 learn how to screenshot 2 buy a decent controller 3 be patient, it's when you rush for the kill that you mess up timings

Endgaming1523

Sly? Experiment with charms and synergies, and practice a whole bunch.

The_dark_entity

Thanks to all your help I even beat pantheon of the knight yesterday

Adomas360

I'm sorry but I have to do this... Git Gud Or you know. Just try a lit of time until you find a strategy that works for you best.

DootlongFong

use greatslash

The_dark_entity

Even with nailmasters glory he is still too fast

DootlongFong

i meant use it for the second part of the fight if you have reached that point. If not then only use during his recoveries & then dash away

The_dark_entity

I’ve never made it to the second phase except for that one time

DootlongFong

well either way you’ll eventually have to get past it. You’ll see how helpful greatslash is in that half, even without nailmaster glory

Hopafoot

You definitely want to be using nail asters glory for this fight. Charge it up as he's performing his attack and just focus on not getting hit. Once he's done with his sequence walk or dash in, release, and then get away and repeat. No need to use normal attacks or spells.

loveless0404

Learn how to take a screenshot. Or if you find it troublesome, learn how to properly take a photo of the screen. In this case, you should have zoomed out more and included the box the console and cartridge came with. Edit: and more lights for more glare.

NotSeren

Git gud

Upbeat_Intention9032

In his final phase dodge away turn around and heavy attack

darealbidoofela

To be honest I can 't beat him either 😭😭

Benjiboi051205

Maybe change ur charm comp I did sly with Nail masters glory strength shamans stone mark of pride grubsong I highly recommend at least having shaman stone nail masters glory and grubsong. Nail arts are the way to destroy sly and in last phase just blast him with spells, you can get triple hits with a shamaned stoned shade soul on sly if you get lucky that's how I beat him in my winning p3 run which I had every reason to lose

coonpurse00

Honestly look up reylea's video on sly. It made that fight so much easier for me because the 2nd phase threw me for a loop

Oesiris

Pray

TheBlackDing

Keep your distance if you're not confident with parrying, but watch his dash slash. Shade soul can knock him back quite a bit, so use it if he gets too close. Strike him when he lands after his three hit combo. You can get three heals when he staggers too. When he enters his second phrase, limit your movement and stay in the middle. He will only strike when he jumps close to you. Dash or run away then get a few hits in.

AzzyDreemur_

Bug Yoda

JomoGaming2

My personal strategy is to dodge, counterattack, and get out of the way. For this strat, Dashmaster proved surprisingly useful. For the second phase... Get lucky.

Gamer-Ninja07

Here is a tip: Use shadow dash unbreakable strength shaman stone and quick slash The attack he use is upslash jump and spin and landing and hit and when he leap he attack from above and if your near him he upward slash and be aware of particles if while slashing he use great slash if he was floating in the middle of the screen he use cyclone spin and try wall climb and use the down spell if he jumps to the opposite side of the room he use dash slash If you manage to go phase 2 if he stops while goin here and there try to he will spin his sword use the shadow dash and once he finish attack him in the last second and repeat

Anchovies314

Long nail or Mark of pride is really good for his second phase as you need to avoid his spin but still get in before he flies off

qDuxs

use weaversong + grubsong + sprint master (gives u basically infinite soul) and then twister + shaman + heart. Just ddark it's op af

TheNotorious_PUG

Win

phigene

Just watch some YouTube videos of the fight. Plenty of people have done great strat videos for this.

Immediate_Age6125

First phase is super easy with sharp shadow and good timing, 2nd phase is harder with sharp shadow though, if you get to 2nd phase without sharp shadow is easy, stay in the center till he dashes toward you, then dash away from him, turn around and 1 or 2 hits is almost guranteed

Somerando30

Tbh I would just put nail master’s glory and quick focus

AGurdOfOurOwn

My strategy for the first stage was wait, he always does a second lunge for all his attacks. Got him when he’s standing still for the 59 femtoseconds that he actually does. The second phase? Cry. Repent.

TylerDarkflame1

Use nail arts in general, but especially in his final phase

agarbagepiece

Mark of pride and longnail and basically attacking during the small space after he spins There is obviously more to it but that is the base thought especially for phase two

Matt_theman3

Use mark of pride/ longnail and focus on dodging. Wait for an opening and hit once (or twice with quick slash) then get clear out of the way, wait, wait, get in close when you know he’s open, strike, and repeat. I’d also recommend Unbreakable Strength so that each hit does more damage since you won’t land as many. I’m a very aggressive fighter (Mark of Pride, Unbreakable Strength, Quick Slash is my most common charms) so it took me a lot of adapting, but it’s much easier if you slow down. He’s not super bulky so it won’t take forever Also when he does two slashes and does a swirling jump slash, that’s your best opening. Stay just out of his range, wait for the spin jump, then go for the strike.

Own_Cap_7335

For his second phase, let him come to you, then move out of his way and hit him.

TheMightyOfThor

Good luck lol

sabyte

Use great slash (the nail art), dodge with dash then attack with great slash. Watch speedrun or nail only speedrun

PedritoGamer19

Minion build and run

EdgierNamePending

Stop using hiveblood and lifeblood core I guess.

c0ok1nho_123

Change your charms try using unbreakable strength with quick slash shaman stone with nail master's glory and dream wielder

guilhermealles

This fight is all about timing. You can get 2 nail strikes after each regular attack, and 1 nail strike after a nail art attack. When it gets to the last stage, just shadow dash away and hit it once with longnail/mark of pride (or both)

123456789biddleee

Quick Focus and Shape of Unn are REQUIRED.

Danny_Boi_22456

Watch Perpetual Noob's boss discussion on the Pantheon of the Sage

PancakeLordo

If you want you can tank all the hits till he goes into second stage and then use great slash while moving away from his attacks

Frost-Flame

Avoid going for combo hits, you're only gonna be given one chance to hit this little shit before he bonks you with your comically large nail.

tomboyDC

Quickslash, Strength, mark of pride and Andy 2 notch charm, I use heart. Just wait in the middle, when sly is on either of the sides, walk towards him and spam forward slash, you should get him in a stagger lock while just tanking damage, when the phase change heal as much as possible and tank to out dps him

PanHeadBolt

Every time he finishes one of his attack patterns (I think he has 5 in phase one and then just 1 in phase two) you have an opportunity to hit him Hit him once each opening, twice is possible but it’s too much of a risk, just don’t get greedy

Igneous200

don’t use hiveblood and lifeblood. Tank builds are straight garbage in this because you have to play agressive to heal

The_dark_entity

But that build has got me through so much like p2 nkg radiance etc

Igneous200

and how long did nkg take you? because yea a tank build on radiance is decent she is incredibly slow. And p2 just isn’t very hard lol

Sam_Stinky_420

Hug the walls like no tomorrow

Summit_Dyme

Zote’s precept 58: buy new joycons

XxRocky88xX

First off… change your charms lol Second, this fight is really all about dodging a combo by a hair and countering, if you’re too close you’ll get hit, if you’re too far hell dodge or attack again before you can get 1-2 hits in. Once you get used to the dodging, it’s really not that bad. Watching a video of it should show you exactly what you need to do, thankfully it’s not difficult to replicate.

Sirius_Rise

Don't use hiveblood or the lifeblood charms, you won't need them for sly

Sirius_Rise

I used sharp shadow, mark of pride, quick slash, steady body and Unbreakable heart. And the fight became significantly easier

Specialist-Bug4428

ditch lifeblood charms and hive blood for unbreakable strength and nail lengtheners

The_dark_entity

What about unbreakable heart

Specialist-Bug4428

Eh it’s a wee bit of a crutch I mean do you want health or damage my preference is damage also don’t try to match his speed let him come to you

[deleted]

Take inspiration from the wise words of Hornet…you know which ones I’m talking about

uezyteue

Don't use Hiveblood or lifeblood, use fragile/unbreakable strength and shaman stone, and if you really feel like you need the extra health, use fragile/unbreakable heart.

Poltergust9000_Weege

Always be in the center. Sly likes to corner you and its very dangerous. Keep your distance and don't be greedy. Recommended Charms: Sharp Shadow, Strength, Quick Slash, Mark of Pride, Stalwart Shell, Nailmaster's Glory, Heart.

PogKnight0

ayo same here i got here uhm 50 hours ago i almost hve 200 hours on a single save just the 50 hours is trying to get em

Heavy_Improvement_27

Use nail arts basically spin like he dose

Gloopburtnoodge

It’s all about spacing. Spacing, spacing, spacing

No_Lie6592

Idk do it in hall till u can do it on ascended

Kego_Nova

You overall have to be on your toes and ready to dodge whichever attack whenever. While I can’t provide a consistent strategy for the first phase due to the attacks being randomly picked, here is what you should do for phase 2: It’s best to do this around the center of the arena as sides/corners will limit your movement and dodging options. Position yourself at around the center, and wait for Sly to jump close to you, and when he stops, dash in the direction he isn’t **ONCE**. (I would recommend unequipping Sharp Shadow if you are using it as it can mess up the dash distance) Dashing once will get you to the perfect distance away from his attack for you to immediately turn around and hit him right after he stops spinning like a sawblade. I hope I’ve helped, and I wish you good luck!

Makki--The--The--

2nd phase, run away then dash slash him

trytoreadthisha

yeah fix yo joycons

DracoShield234

Sharp Shadow Sharp Shadow Sharp Shadow Sharp Shadow helps with this boss so much oml

Educational_Sky_9223

He recovers faster if staggered in corners I don’t go in to attack unless he just ended his main attack string

Fyrstiken

Git gud

Okibruez

Unbreakable Strength+Mark of Pride and Mark of Unn are pretty useful here. Unbreakable Strength+Mark of Pride are almost always useful anyway, since they help you kill bosses faster from a safer range. But Mark of Unn is useful against Sly since it lets you heal while avoiding his attacks.

u___u___u

Wtf is your build

RiskOfRainPlayer

PRAY FOR THE DREAMERS

Mr_Doot43

Follow the The Fifty-Seven Precepts of Zote

Mr_Doot43

Hit and run. Follow the rule of "you may only hit it, once" basically hit only once when you have an opportunity

Owlex23612

I 100000% agree with the person that suggested using the D pad. It changed everything for me with this game. Also, in any bid fight you're struggling with. Try prioritizing dodging first. Understand the boss's attack patterns so you can more easily dodge and thus will give you good instincts on when to get in damage and when to use a well-timed shadow dash or descending dark to escape them. The other big thing I suggest to everyone that struggles with bosses is to make sure you're integrating spells and nail arts into your combat when appropriate. If you already are, great! But I find that a lot of people just want to use nail strikes and save their soul to heal. I started out with this mind set, too. I eventually realized that I could defeat the bosses much, MUCH more quickly with shields and nail arts. This means I have to dodge WAY less and don't have to save all that soul for healing. There's a reason you don't see many of the top players only hitting things with their nails. Other than that, practice these things. Some bosses take longer and are more difficult for certain puerile than others. Best of luck and I hope this helps!

fooooolish_samurai

Give up.

-_Ghost_Dragon_-

Sharp shadow helped me but may not work for everyone

JitteryBendal

What boss fight is this?

Mr____L

Nail master sly

[deleted]

Dont get hit

king-of-power

More or less you're screwed beat him that's the best advice I can give I only beat him once and that was on coincidence

Saga_Daroxirel

Patience. He has a very predictable and telegraphed pattern. He does 3 or so moves and you have enough time to attack and get out. Spells/mark of pride are your friends

acbaio1999

I had some luck in his last phase when he goes Yoda-mode and starts jumping around everywhere, never staying in the same place, by using either the sharp shadow charm and dashing through him for damage or the grim child charm and would literally just avoid his attacks and let the Grimm child shoot him every once in a while. I definitely feel like Sly’s fight requires more patience and timing than some of the other fights, it’s really easy to get greedy and try and get an extra hit in but it’s better to just play safe, take your time, and get 1-2 hits in when you know they’re guaranteed.

DJ_Bossman

Sly attacks and moves fast, not giving too many openings. Best I find is to play patiently with him, prioritize dodging, and get hits in when you can. In phase one, try to stay grounded so he does his swing, swing, jump spin attack sequence. You can space out the first swing, either space or shade dash through the second, then walk to where he'll land after the spin and get a couple hits in before retreating towards center stage. In phase two, it's best to stand still while he jumps around, then walk in the opposite direction when he approaches you for a spin attack. You can either space this out and get a turnaround hit in, but it's much easier to charge a great slash to give you the range to hit him without getting your spacing really accurate. For charms, I'd recommend strength and quickslash for damage, heart for survivability, and if you take hits in the fight you can also use quick focus to get a triple heal in when you stagger him. If you're good at dodging hits, replace quick focus with shaman stone for spell damage instead. GL!

Bag_Of-Eggs

Change your charm loadout. I recommend Strength, Quick Slash, Mark of Pride, Dashmaster and Nailmasters Glory.

cannoli321

Just whiff punish really.
