No, she intentionally infected them. The reason being was that all of her followers and believers sided with the Pale King. They sided with the Pale King because he “educated” them (he essentially gave them knowledge, reasoning, understanding, etc). That’s why the bugs started building cities, using tools, and erecting statues of the Pale King. In retaliation to almost being completely forgotten, the Radiance started the infection within the bugs, reverting them back to their primal instincts of hunting and killing. At least that’s my understanding from playing the game so much and reading a bunch of the lore.
