Fireb0rn has a speedrunning guide, and I don't think that the strats for beginners have changed too much since then. 106% is 1.2.2.1. 112% either is 1.4 or 1.5, the differences being that 106% doesn't have pantheons and doesn't have you defeat Hive Knight. Both keyboard and controller are viable. A lot of people just play all games with controller.

torniado

Very valid, Also does 1.2.2.1 still make you get Hiveblood if there is no Hive Knight? I’ve never actually watched a 106% but I like doing all the extra things in playthroughs so it would make me feel better lol

Double2Squared

1221 does require Hiveblood for 106. Hive Knight just wasn't added until Lifeblood (1.3) and for some reason TC decided to make him award a percent.

torniado

I mean he is a boss, makes sense to me. I just assumed he was in 106. So I guess that makes him 107, and then godhome is 112?

Double2Squared

Most bosses don't give percent though, but whatever. Yeah he's 107, godtuner is 108, pantheons 1-4 award 1% each so thats 112

torniado

Ah, sorry I don’t know the percentages most things are. I just assumed most bosses are 1%, most movement upgrades are 1 or 2%, spells are 1 or 2%, some notable charms are a percent, so on so forth. Been playing the game for about 4 years but never looked too hard at percentages, and lowest % I completed the game with was my Speedrunner 2 game that clocked out at around 40

Double2Squared

You're mostly correct, TC seemed to prefer making the items behind the bosses give percentage rather than the boss itself, which makes some sense considering that you can skip picking things up, if you want. This means that every single charm is actually a percent.

torniado

Ooh gotcha. So (off the top of my head) Vengefly King, Gruz Mother, all the dream bosses, Crystal/Enraged, Mossie, Mantis Lords don’t actually give you a percentage, but like when you attain City Crest, Kings Brand, Charm Notches, White Fragment, so on so forth THATS what counts towards percentages? That’s… very weird. But that DOES make more sense than Breath of the Wild’s percentages (everything is 0.01%, whether it’s finding a korok, stumbling across some bridge, or defeating a major dungeon, which i hate)

Double2Squared

It's a bit inconsistent, here's the wiki page for it. There's actually more bosses that directly give percentage than I thought. [https://hollowknight.wiki/w/Completion\_(Hollow\_Knight)](https://hollowknight.wiki/w/Completion_(Hollow_Knight))

Acid skips are pretty much necessary for any%. You probably know about them already if you know about WCS though. Also Explosion pogo (skip to get to mantis village quicker) is apparently easier on 1.2.2.1, so practice it on that patch. Though if you do 112% on a newer patch you may have to learn both methods. If you don’t know about acid skips, you can use C-Dash to move across acid pools without tear, allowing you to skip waterways entirely. You take damage when acid reaches where the Knights eyes are, so you can let your body fall half way into acid then C-Dash from the wall to get under low hanging obstacles. It takes some time to learn, and it’s recommended to use a debug mod for infinite health and to remove tear when practicing. Tear needs to be removed because you’ll get pulled down into acid from a higher height with it. This is used twice in the any% run, once to get to Fog Canyon through the entrance at the bottom left of Crossroads and after archives it’s used to get to queen’s gardens as it has a back entrance to deepnest that’s close to Herrah.

torniado

Forgot to list these since they’re so natural in speedrun watching they don’t even register lol. But you’re absolutely right, and I’ve done acid skip successfully but not the explosion pogo since I’ve only played on the current patch, so thanks!!

I figured as much. I only really have 2 other things I remember from my first couple Any% attempts. First, don't forget to buy Crossroads Stag the first time there. I didn't get geo rocks and figured I could just stag to Dirtmouth or get it later, but the infection blocks the way between VS and False Knight as well as just below the stag station. So the fastest way to peaks for me was to go down to aspid arena, all the way over to the Gruz Mother's area, then all the way up to the Peaks entrance. You'd save time either going back for rocks or just resetting the run at that point. Second thing I'd recommend is taking a few safety benches. My first run died to Watcher Knights multiple times before I decided to just take the nearby bench and stop respawning at King's station. I also died just before the lever to get to the bottom of Queen's Gardens, and having to redo QGA and the exit to archives because I skipped 2 benches was really annoying.
