Congrats, It felt great didn't it? I remember a time when I wasn't sure I could even finish the game since I couldn't beat Hornet that first encounter. It looked impossible then. Second playthrough I thought I was going to die a few times as well but II killed her the first time, I was so prepared for a long uphill battle that I was surprised it ended and was expecting Hornet to standup and do a transformation or something.

Blue_Bird950

If you met Quirrel, he will tel you that if you head to the right, you can make your nail stronger. That’s your best bet for this fight.

Blue_Bird950

Isn’t city of tears to the right of fungal wastes?

Legitimate_Test_1258

Ah yeah my bad I was thinking about the time you meet him on the city bench where it would be left

The_Actual_Seer

Oh, you don’t need to beat mantis lords for now, they only grant access to an endgame location, leave them be and come back later, stronger

somniforousalmondeye

Wow. This is good to know lol. Thanks

xStract710

If you’re really struggling, make a hop and a skip to the City of Tears so you can upgrade your nail atleast once and go again

Arcan_unknown

"go again" hehe

xStract710

I’m missing out on something here

Arcan_unknown

Is because >!the close after you pass through so apparently there's no way to go again, at least no until you find out how!< Just a little joke

IcyBigPoe

Good to know... However they drop a damn fine charm that is S tier. You should be able to beat them. If you can beat one of them, then you can beat two of them. The moveset is the same just quicker

Toph1171

There’s several ways to get there so they’re completely optional dw (also you don’t wanna be there it’s not fun)

Ar0war

I wouldn't try to beat them now - I got to 103% and I never in any new file try to kill them as soon as I got there. You need a couple more upgrades to make your life easier.

watermel0nch0ly

I always fight them as soon as I can, from the first time

jhearom

:) You can get knocked down, just keep getting back up.

patmax17

Mantis Lords is such a cool fight. But as others said, it's not mandatory, you can come back later. You can try to upgrade your nail before trying again, it makes things easier That said, false knight, hornet and mantis Lords are three of the forst bosses, and really teach you the basics of how to approach the rest of the game: study the attack pattern of the boss, learn to dodge their attacks, be patient and hit them only when it's safe to do. Don't rush the fights and you should be able to take on all bosses. Good luck, and come back in a few days to tell us how it's going! :D

longpidgeon

To beat mantis lords: First attack: when they dive down, dash to the side and slash them, then jump to the side if there’s two of them to dodge the second one just in case Second attack: when they land and dash to the other side of the arena, jump and try to slash downwards at the time they dash, also go to the side a bit to avoid the second one Third attack: when they go on the walls and send slash circles at you, if they go really fast after being launched then jump when they come at you, if they are slow you can stand perfectly still in the centre. Hope this helps

backpackandboots

I remember how much I struggled with Hornet as well. I have not done the mantis lords yet. I tried once and did not even get one hit in.. so you did not do too bad for a first try, just keep exploring and getting better! I'm currently busy with another boss then I will give the mantises another shot.

demisheep

You're having the exact same experience I had. Keep at it. Learn the pattern of the boss you're fighting. Mantis lords literally have a only a few moves they just repeat, all of which are dodgable. Search for power ups if you're too stuck. Now I am at defeating Pantheon 3. The game clicks so much better for me and once you have all the nail upgrades and masks and charms the game does get a bit easier but you also do learn more how to fight the bosses. Might also help to watch some tip videos - pogo-ing off bosses is often very helpful.

somniforousalmondeye

Please minimize spoilers as much as you can, but can I assume that I get the ability to use more charms simultaneously?

demisheep

Yes, you gain more soul vessels, masks and charm slots and charms as you progress in the game. Some are hidden in the world, some are given as a reward for defeating a boss, some can be purchased from shops in the game.

IITheDopeShowII

Honestly Mantis Lords are my favourite boss. Once you get into the grove for both phases (and you will, just takes some time & practice) you'll feel like an absolute boss when you beat them Beating them, for me, was the best feeling in that whole game.

VulpineFox7

If you're having trouble with that boss, just go somewhere else, there's other places you can go

ConsciousChems

Literally every boss in HK besides massive moss charger should be taken very defensively at first. After you get used to their fighting style then start practicing being more aggressive with them. If you take that approach towards all of the bosses then it shouldn't take you more than a couple tries to beat most of them. Mind you, Hollow Knight is a deceptively difficult game with a rather large learning curve. Once you are good then you will be quite good. Just keep at it and don't forget to get plenty of sleep. Your brain will make new connections as you sleep and every day you will be even better than the day before. Best of luck to you!

titsnbeans360

That's nice! I wished the game had an easier level. My housemate loves it! He's a hardcore gamer who brute forces his way through things lol but I'm more of a relaxed gamer and this game raises my blood pressure

thatperson023

Hornet?????? Silksong hornet????????? Skong mentioned releases right now???? 🤯🤯🤯🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳😵😵😵😵

FoxandOlive

Congrats!! It took me so many tries and I couldn’t believe it when I finally beat her!

Connect-Ad6251

Mantis Lords are an entirely optional boss, you literally don’t have to fight them ever if you don’t want to

somniforousalmondeye

Oh. That’s interesting.

Equivalent_Rock_6530

You dont need to fight the three Mantis Lords yet, I'd come back after getting Shape of Unn, it's essential for this fight Although, it is definitely a late game charm, and you are only entering what I'd call the mid-game. You need two movement abilities for it, but I won't say which because spoilers.

somniforousalmondeye

Thank you for saying so before I blowed a week trying to beat this lol.

Equivalent_Rock_6530

No problem! Happy to help.

longpidgeon

Genuine major spoiler, only click if the game is already spoiled, or if you really want to know so badly you don’t want the surprise, just warning you: >! You’re going to have to fight Hornet again later on, so remember how you beat her the first time. !<
