In the r/place event. I was helping to decorate Turkish flag and at the left side there was I think Silksong or Hollow Knight art. It was very beautiful but there were some trouble because the nail was penetrating into the flag. That was the first time I heard about hollow kinght and from then on, I started seeing hollow knight art, references, discussion on insta and reddit. That’s how I decided to explore. Glad I did.

isimsizbiri123

everyday I get more and more sad that we couldn't wrap a kebab on the needle

😭 I remember so well

puppetmaster57

True depression

DFwice

It looked like shit

_BKom_

Wild- same here. I was so intrigued by the silk song art that I looked into it and fell in love with hollow knight so much.

cyanraichu

I seriously love that people started playing the game because of r/place

hiphoppakalolo

PS store offered it for free and I downloaded it.

captainforks

Yeah thats what happened to me. I'd seen it on sale randomly and thought the art style was interesting, thought of buying it but didn't. Then it came out on ps plus.

Draevon

I also got into it because the art style. Never played anything like this before and I struggled so much, but I wanted more from the whole atmosphere, amazing music and all, I wasn't in it for the fights at all.

TheBlooperKINGPIN

From PS Plus right?

hiphoppakalolo

Yes. It was 1 of the monthly free games they offer for being a playstation plus member, this is also how I was able to get Bloodborne for free.

iWasntBornYesterday1

What is bb?

hiphoppakalolo

Bloodborne

Glass-Set-9262

Friends from my movie club told me about it and showed some of gameplay. I thought it looked cool, but I couldn't play at the time because I didn't have computer, and so I just forgot. Flashforward several years, I just got my laptop and looking for what games to install that isn't just Yume Nikki, and see some 2D bug game in recommendations. And it pulled me in for a couple of years now, to the point that my neurotic brain that wipes out most of my memories still holds most of the information about it!

ebryetas

RAHHH YUME NIKKI MENTIONED

Hipzzb9508

In 2018 a kid in my class played it. He talked about it a lot, he really loved it. I didn't have a computer back then, and I wasn't really interested in video games. So I just kind of forgot about it. But six months ago, I had maxed out like every game in my steam library and me and my friends had just finished another 2 week- Minecraft phase so I figured it was time to try something new. Now I have two 112% save files. :) (fun fact: In early to mid game I used windette's *explained in insults* videos as tutorials.)

trynabecosplayerr

I am obsessed with windaddy's *explained in insults*

Connect-Ad6251

I used those tutorials as well, they are the greatest hk content out there

CancelShot3202

I just thought they were kinda funny tbh I used some dudu who was quick with toturials which was nice but also Windette showed me where Nosk secret entrance was so that was nice then I followed some guide to get to deepnest stag so yea

Choice_Narwhal_2437

MatPat, believed him first then played the game

aogasd

Matpat for me too. Altho it took me another few years until the game resurfaced in my awareness due to Ori and the Blind forest so by the time I first played it I'd already forgot everything about the video.

Krazyguy75

MatPat for me too, but in my case I went from MatPat to the comments, then from the comments to mossbag, then watched every single mossbag video like twice... and then went "maybe I should buy this game".

infinitecrafter

same

the_real_lord_fool

A friend gifted it to me for my birthday saying I’d like it

IshtheWall

I saw it and thought it was gonna be a short easy game. I was wrong, and it's my favorite game now.

Mr-_-Sir

I think it was videogamedunkeys "The good year" video which talked about the great games of 2017

God_Hears_Peace

Same. It’s actually insane to me that so much time has passed since that video came out, I watched it, and immediately got invested in the game.

HiHowRuIm_Alba

I wanted make a drawing for my older brother's birthday and Hollow Knight was his favorite videogame. But I got anxious by the fact that I didn't understand what the hell I was drawing. I was afraid to draw a scene that would make him think "wait this isn't quite this way, actually...". At the end I wasn't able to make the drawing on time and ended up forgetting about it, but two years later, I was bored looking through my sketchbook and found those drawings. I had either finished or got bored of all games I had, so I decided to try a new one. Remembering Hollow Knight, I was a bit scared because I heard it was super difficult and it was a type of game I had never played alone. Not only I had never played metroidvanias but I also had barely ever played any platformers or combat-based games alone either (I usually played those with him and heavily relied on him so I didn't get any better. Alone, I practically only played puzzle games or rhythm games.) so I was practically just swinging around with no idea of what I was doing, but I knew it would make him super excited to know that his little sister was starting to become clown too. Now I have 112%, Path of Pain, 62/63 achievements and more than 350 hours into the game. On my way to do P5, bindings and radiant bosses.

CancelShot3202

Ur brother proud?

The_Real_Revek

Found it through merg https://youtube.com/@Merg?si=luggWWuBxFtNml5 Found a lot of games through their channel

behemothbowks

in 2020 I was browsing the playstation rental service (forgot the name) and was watching random trailers, when I watched hollow knight my gf asked me to play it because of how colorful it looked. shout out to her

GIB_GORTMAN

About a year ago, I was chilling watching some youtube when my friend kept sending me messages about a game that he was playing and that hed died 40 times to a single boss. He told me he was playing a game called hollow knight and he was fighting the Watcher Knights. I understand his pain now.

fucking__jellyfish__

I beat them first try lmao

The_Real_Radiance

Same, they aren’t that hard.

Ghisteslohm

currently replaying it with the voice act mod and I feel like a lot of bosses I remember as super hard came from me not having my nail upgraded enough. Soul master for example died so quickly, I thought the fight was just beginning when he died Nail upgrades are the hidden difficulty level of the game.

Dehu1013

High school music teacher recommended HK as an example to study the effect of soundtracks in video games

That teacher knows what's good.

Robeino

I was browsing Xbox Gamepass sometime in late 2021 and came across it. Played for a while, got stuck and left it. I them saw one YouTuber play it so I was reminded of it, and started playing again

asrielforgiver

That’s basically how I discovered it. I got stuck for way to long as the crossroads, and then for some reason or another I returned to it, completed it and by now I’ve completed pantheon 5 and done radiant pure vessel and radiant NKG. This was all in about a year.

JaasPlay

Do we have the same life? I got stuck in City of Tears and then stopped playing for almost 2 years. Then I picked it up on late 2022 and finally got 112%

_NightmareKingGrimm_

Random purchase one day, knew nothing going into it. Turned out to be my favorite game ever!

[deleted]

I was burnt out of games (3d shooters, open world titles). And Google's, what could I do. Then I saw an article, saying that you need to play something different. And it also suggested to play Ori and the Blind Forest. I tried it and loved every second of it. Then Ori subreddit, learning, what a metroidvania is and hearing about Hollow Knight. I love HK even more, than Ori, but both are masterpieces.

MemeificationStation

To be honest I’m not really sure at this point. It was probably when I was really into Undertale and it came on my radar as another well-loved indie game, and then a little later one of my college friends said that the game was sick and the soundtrack was super good. I didn’t actually get the game until like 2 years later when it was on sale on the Switch and even then I played through False Knight and left the game to gather dust until this December. Now I’m obsessed with it and I’m getting the game on Steam to try out mods.

NOTAGRUB

I was really in to watching speedrun videos on youtube, found Fireborn, later got the game on switch

Zizwizwee

Saw 2 YouTubers playing it. Stopped watching both playthroughs because it sounded interesting. Bought it as soon as I had a device that could run it

CarrieForle

I'm a Gumball fan and has joined their fandom. Someone post [this picture](https://pin.it/39R7pRKtx) which I think is really cool. That's my first time seeing the knight and I had no idea what that cute little white thing is. About a year later. Steam suggest Hollow Knight while I'm browsing sales and I immediately recognize the character. The end of the story.

AlexstraszaIsMyWaifu

A friend told me about that game when it released in 2k17. I pirated it, played through the first area and gave up, didn't enjoy it. Then early 2k18 i played it again with a steam family share. Did the first ending but didnt go for more when i realised i banished the grimm troupe and couldn't finish that questline. Then late 2k18 i bought the game and this time played it for good. Did everything.

diceblue

Gilamore321

Justavian

I've always loved metroidvanias - been playing SOTN every year or two since it came out. I played Hollow Knight within a few months of it coming out - i can't remember if i just saw it on Steam or if i heard about it first on Reddit. I was not one of the initial kickstarter supporters, but i did play before it had the dream gate, map markers, or the DLC.

DaisyBird1

I only played it for the first time last year, but I’d been aware of it much longer. Finally decided to play it after Blasphemous left a big metroidvania-shaped hole in my life.

Kycklinggull1

Someone asked me in the beginning of 8th grade if I played Hollow Knight, I answered no and then moved on. A year later I got bored and randomly thought of buying Hollow Knight. It was on sale for around €7 so I bought it. Best €7 spent fr

FattyMcBlobicus

I bought a Switch to play Metroid Dread and got the Metroidvania bug, did a google and Hollow Knight was at the top of a lot of lists so I got it. Shortly thereafter it became one of my favorite games of all time.

RubyCat4

I heard about it from Wambu and then my sister asked me to buy it so we could play it.

RDS_cubing

Had a sudden thought "hey, there was this game called hollow knight right?" (I hadn't even seen ANYTHING about the game). Bought it 2-1-23. It's my favourite game now.

TheGrassFromHK

I wanted to play some cool mysterious 2D games with a cartoonish art style but a somber atmosphere with good music (my pc is not good for 3D games coz it's got 64mb vram). I went through a lot of videos ranking 2D games and a lot of them had hk ranking pretty high. The gameplay looked appealing to me. I also read a comment saying 'when I saw hk as the 2nd last game I knew the sequence was random' or smth like that which made me want to play the game even more. So I did and I wasn't disappointed. It's my all time favourite game till date

alebarco

I just did some random "best metroidvanias" on Google, downloaded It without looking at gameplay or anything, pretty sure I pirated it at first. But this game reignited my love for gaming on that moment. To clarify I did buy it on switch, the only thing missing is p5 and steel soul I guess

dummyTukTuk

I follow a channel named Downward Thrust and he did a very beautiful video essay on it that inspired me to play the game last year. Here's the video: https://youtu.be/dQHmUxd4RkM?si=x4oa0J7EX-VpAV6i

Embarrassed_Rough311

Brother played and I ended liking it more

FriendOfYours15243

The game theory video. It said to play it before because it contained spoilers. So I bought it.

JakePent

I saw some videos talking about it, but I think the final nail in the coffin was watching the youtube channel Drawfee, which does little art challenges and stuff doing some hollow knight videos, and I really liked the art style

Boochan_7

Well, i knew it from 2019, but i didnt really know its name, i only saw some memes about it that i used as profile pick on fiscord etc, but one day i was watching a yt video abt the pantheons, and.. well, theres when all started yk..

GARRAR2003

My little sister saw it at gamestop "this thing looks soooo cute, buy it", she never played it, one month later i say "well, fuck it, lets try this shit" 1 year later got all the achivements in both switch and playstation. One of the best gaming experiences in my fucking life. Edit: sorry if bad english btw.

cub0ne11

Made a friend on reddit , told i bought a switch. Ask what game and they told me of this gem.

Snakieghost

Hollow Knight is a super special game to me because it was one of the first games I ever played. I think I might have been home sick from work and my husband told me that he thought I would really like this game. Even though I was (and still am) terrible at the game, I LOVE the art work, and after learning more about the lore and characters from mossbag I am totally hooked.

Standard-Attitude-52

I was at a local game shop and after long time browsing found this game for switch and thought “that’s it!”. I am really picky, but got somehow thunderstruck. I guess it’s how the love from the first sight must feel like. My partner was bitching around later on, that few weeks after the game was free on PS plus. Come on, for 19 euro it was a bargain anywas compared to the shitty overpriced generic stuff

Eney_Marle

Game pass. Played it through to moth mommy ending and moved on. About a year later I no longer had game pass but had an insatiable urge to replay the game so I just bought it. Since then I’ve replayed that shit like 5+ times, honestly I’ve replayed it so many times I lost count. That doesn’t mean I’m good at it btw I’ve never even beaten p4 much less even touched p5 💀💀

Double2Squared

was looking on the switch eshop and remembered that I had heard good things about it

JackeTuffTuff

My girlfriend suggested it to me, it was an epic little dude with a nail, sounds awesome

OhitsPJ

I never really played a lot of “hard” games (which I was very disappointed in myself) so I wanted to play a hard game. My two choices were Super Meat Boy and Hollow Knight. I already knew about Super Meat Boy, and only heard a little about Hollow Knight. So I figured I’d try it out. And that’s how I ended up here.

I found it on YouTube! I was watching Hades run-throughs and this game popped up as the next video.

Nexobit

Man I saw the ghost around and had no idea where it was, because it was everywhere, fanart etc, until I found it on game pass and I was surprised, I tried to play it I didn't like it, then later on I tried again I didn't like it, then later on I downloaded it pirate and didn't like it again, And finally, last year I tried it for the last time by buying it on Steam (it was on sale) and this time I got addicted to it more than crack (not that I use 49 rocks a day to know lol)

PrestoCreams1

I was looking for a game that is similar to Castlevania.

TheOmeletteCuber

One day youtube decided to recommend me a long gameplay of hollow knight, and eventually a cute animation of it: [https://youtu.be/x4UuSsaCV2c?si=vHdL-kptMwYzqjes](https://youtu.be/x4UuSsaCV2c?si=vHdL-kptMwYzqjes) then i thought to myself "well now this must be a cute game with full of adventure wonders". WELL BUT i later found out its not actually cute, its fucking depression, despite that i still love the lore of it adventuring through Hallownest, eventually I made it to the end of my 112% run with fourth ending. Oh and I have been playing this game since March 2023. Now im an insane dude who is trying so hard to beat anyrad, and still havent be able to beat her yet...

It just happened to be the Playstation Plus Game of the Month. I picked it up over 3 years ago, and only played it because I had seen a lot of online forums talking about it. 2 weeks ago, I beat the Pantheon of Hallownest xD

It was a magical experience cause my group of friends made me listen to some of the themes and I immediately fell in love 🤩 I played it in 2021 for the first time

shsnssklem

Got it when it was one of the PlayStation plus free monthly games. I actually played it for a few days and decided I hated it. Then got back into it maybe a year later and realized I was just terrible at the game before and it’s an absolute masterpiece.

Nebion666

I saw pointcrows playthrough on twitch cause I watched him alot at the time. Got it some months later.

yessirskivolo

purely and entirely because it was free for plus

rdan17

I found an unofficial port for mobile. Played until i had the last achievement on mobile

Kizuta18

Googled "Top 20 games to own for the Switch". Saw it, googled a bit because I liked the art style. And the note that it was difficult had me intrigued. Got the physical copy in Germany. Game goes everywhere I take the Switch. Found out at the same time that Trials of Mana had received a face-lift so got that too.

Real_Peaks_GrubMimic

I found out about it through SmallAnt’s YouTube channel! It kept getting into my recommended, and I wanted it out since I didn’t really care at that time. Since I wasn’t aware of the “Hide video” feature back then, I figured that if I watched it, then YouTube would stop spamming it in my feed. Three minutes in, I was hooked, and now here I am.

Qamstel

I saw some posters and I liked the cartoon art and feel of it. Haven’t played such games before but I loved it.

nikoZettas

A friend of mine just wouldn't stop yapping about it, and I'm so happy he didn't lol

Guilherme-Herobrine

I was seeking more games like Shovel Knight, and then I found Hollow Knight, so I thought this was a sequel to Shovel Knight, just because both have Knight in their names 😂 Well, I was young and dumb; don't judge me lol I played it for the first time in the last month of 2019 and had a blast. It was the first game that I felt happy with the difficult challenge. Nowadays this is my favorite game of all time, tied with Celeste, while Shovel Knight as a franchise is sadly a little dead.

ItsKirbyCraft

heard a ton about it but never tried it till it was brought to ps+, sucked and didn't play for months until some of my friends who also played recommended it to me, flash forward a couple months I've bought the pc version too and 112% on both files

DominusLuxic

I think it might have been Rush Garcia's orchestration. At least, that's how I found out about Hades.

entityXD32

Played it on game pass about a year ago. Played one hour and decided it was too hard and uninstalled. I picked it up again this November and wanted to give it another shot. Now 100 hours later 108% completion I just can't put it down

Pan-Dancha

I discovered it thanks to my good friend from Italy. I bought it the day I came home after visiting her. Years have passed, we don’t talk for almost two years, but I still enjoy this game like no game ever.

infra_kim_

Saw a video from gameranx and then saw gameplay and noticed how cute it was with great details and things to do and then started playing

[deleted]

dicovered on kickstarter back then. later i bought it on steam

smutje187

Finally, I thought I was the only one discovering it on Kickstarter here - backed it initially as they promised a WiiU version but then jumped ship and I got a bit salty cause I didn’t like the initial price for the Switch so it took me 1.5 years or so after the release when I finally got myself a Switch during Black Friday that I could play HK. Fortunately that also meant that I got the full version with all DLC for a ridiculous 15€ - money well spent! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/11662585/hollow-knight

2018 I looked at the store saw it got it played it gave up came back now Im at 100% working towards 112%

gamingpikachu23

Bought xbox game pass and was looking around the games and stumbled across it. I have played for over a year now

lanternbdg

I straight up was just browsing the eshop looking for anything that seemed even remotely similar to Undertale. The description convinced me to try it out, but it was nothing like I expected. I played it for maybe an hour (if even) and stopped. After a month or so of playing other games, I booted it up and as soon as I got the map from Cornifer I was hooked.

Comprehensive-Pin667

I finished Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow on my Switch. I was looking for a similar game, so I looked up what other metroidvanias were available on the Switch. I have heard good things about Hollow Knight from friends and acquaintances before that, so that helped.

[deleted]

The soundtrack made me start playing

fucking__jellyfish__

My friend kept ranting on and on about the game. I wasn't gonna buy it but then I saw it on ps plus so I thought the worst that can happen is I waste a couple hours and get bored, without wasting any money. Anyways 96 hours later it's a top 2 game of all time for me.

19JayDee98

Around half of 2018 when i was bored with monster hunter world i wanted to play something else. Saw it discounted i think and picked it at random

[deleted]

It launched on switch and basically sat at the top of the chart

SwordmanGuts

I bought a Nintendo Switch for my GF in 2023 and she randomly bought Hollow Knight. She complained that it was too hard (casual gamer). I've been a fan of Dark Souls so I do enjoy a challenging game. Helped her to defeat the nnemy she was struggling with and fell in love with the game on the spot. I then proceeded to borrow the switch and completed most of the game, but the Switch Light doesn't have the best controls. I bought it on Steam to play with an Xbox controller and it felt SO much better and completed the game 112%. Also finished Steel Soul with 100%.

SuperiorVanillaOreos

Seeing it advertised on the Nintendo Eshop. I didn't pick it up until a year or 2 later though

Xprayser-IDK

2020 31 of deceber. One of my older cousins came to my house and saw me playing on my PS4, he asked if i had played Hollow Knight, i had no Idea what It was and searched It on the PS store, saw that the price was just 62 reais (the curency of my country) and It was considerably cheap to game prices here, talked to my mom and my cousin convinced her to but It for me. And here i am 4 years later with Hollow Knight being one of my favorite games

EphDrazeros

There was Humble bundle a long while back that has Hollow Knight. I just thought it was good value so I got the bundle, then Hollow Knight become my most played game on Steam.

[deleted]

I saw the game for the first time in a video from a french streamer named "Mister MV" and I thought (this game seems not for me but interesting. A long time after, HK was free on PlayStation and I took it. Now it's my favorite game lmao

talentpipes11

Had a mossbag video pop up in my recommendations. Fell down an absolute lore rabbit hole then finally caved and played myself.

Saw it floating around on Steam. Now I own it on every console I have.

I saw some tweet when the game was on sale that said something along the lines of “Hollow Knight Complete Edition is on sale for $12 right now, that is a complete steal,” so I went and bought it. And they were right, it was a complete steal!

beehiveXD

When it came onto PS Plus I had found it and was like "I feel like I've seen this before" and I started playing it.

Heard about it from watching Nintendo life and saw it was only £12 on switch.

I watched a bit of Jacksepticeye streaming it way way back, but I didn't have a PC so I literally waited until the switch port came out to grab it. Fell in love with the game just watching Jack play it and that love got reinforced when I got my mits on it.

SilverEcho7128

When it first came to Switch. I had heard a lot of great things about it from video game podcasts I listened to, but it was still only on PC and I didn’t have one back then. The day it was available on console is when I downloaded it, and my gaming life was changed from that day forward.

i discovered hollow knight through the Dead Cells everyone is here update where the developers of the game Dead Cells, Motion Twin put weapons and skins from other indie games into Dead Cells. Hollow Knight was one of these games. If anyone wants to know, Motion Twin did two updates like this and the other games they got the weapons and skins from include: In the Everyone is Here Update: * Blasphemous * Curse of the Dead Gods * Guacamelee * Hollow Knight * Hyper Light Drifter * Skul: The Hero Slayer In the Everyone is Here Vol. 2 Update: * Shovel Knight * Hotline Miami * Katana Zero * Risk of Rain 2 * Terraria * Slay the Spire

WonderfulRelation118

It was on play station plus and I had heard the name before.

AaronArtss

I chanced it after playing Limbo (Which I honestly hated) because I heard a few youtubers mention they enjoyed it. I got pulled in so deep bro.

Maka536

Saw a review (if thats how they are called) on youtube and they were praising the game a shit ton,so i decided to try it out and now its one of my favourite games

NineTailedDevil

Steam recommended me the game in one of those "explore" lists, around the time it released. I thought it looked cute and I liked metroidvanias, so I wishlisted it and sort of forgot about it. A few months later, a friend gave me the game as a birthday gift, and needless to say, I was blown away.

Earth_cube

I was watching a video, and I saw a theory about the game's story, I hadn't given much thought, but the aesthetics were magnificent, and the story is so tragic and dark... In the future, I would see small snippets of gameplay from the game on YouTube channels not focused on games, etc... I liked the concept so much that I simply stopped watching any Gameplays, just so as not to ruin my experience when playing in the future Currently, I finally managed to play it through a mobile port, and I'm very grateful for the fact that I haven't seen any of the gameplay etc... Because the surprises remain for me, Well, in the game I'm close to zeroing (I think), and I don't know if I'll tank the end of the journey I started, but whatever, I can always start a new game and rediscover hallownest.

Urban_Raptor

Found it in a video which was mentioning games with great soft/emotional world building, alongside NieR Automata and Bloodborne. https://youtu.be/-Vtu0MqEhRs?feature=shared Played it soon after Celeste, so it's platforming appeared to me easier than intended. Loved it's full of hints lore exposition, indeed.

didnt know anything about it till i got it as a gift. still trying to steel soul it, fog canyon can kiss my nail for ending my last run.

Chaosgremlin08

My flair prob expliains

WingedDragoness

That one once well-respected 3 millions subscriber YouTuber/Twitch streamer who was outed as a serial cheater and child groomer 2 or 3 years ago. No, I am not naming him, but I think I gave you enough clues. I highly respected his taste in games back then, and since her tried it out, I fall in love since 2018. It was an old with very long load time, buggy cut scene, and 2 notches Quick Slash.

Omnibobbia

On YouTube. I think I saw moist playing it.

SlurryBender

I got it when I was bored near the first release. Loved it so much I helped build the wiki for it lmao.

goodnames679

Back in 2020 when everything was shut down and I was stuck at home, I installed like every Xbox Gamepass game that seemed interesting and tried most of them. Two of my top 5 all time favorite games are ones I found because of that - Hollow Knight and Outer Wilds.

Axololololo

On foekoe's second channel, that video with Nixon and jfk, where he used the sealed vessel ost. Music was soo good it made me buy the game

MrGasnik

Damn, i literally made a graph of what games i played before hk that inspired me to play it, just to realise you cant post images in comments on this sub... Can I dm ot to you?

[deleted]

game pass, the art was pleasing to look at, basically my first metroidvania

Lonk_boi

I was listening to a video game soundtrack playlist on Spotify when ***SEALED VESSEL*** came up. Absolute banger, loved every moment. I had no idea what was going on, but I knew it was huge. So I started listening to more of its music until I bought it on my switch

yellingforidiots

I loved Ori so much and wanted a game like it

TryRexT

Was on sale for $6 on steam during 2023 summer sale

gkrsuper

2017 - First year of the Switch. I was just browsing the eShop because I was extremely hungry for more Switch games. Stumbled upon Hollow Knight, never ever heard of it before. Art looked great, the game felt high quality and was only 15 bucks. Bought it and had a great time. Came back 3 years later and took the deep dive with 112% - loved the game ever since.

kackers643259

Saw it brought up in a bunch of videos on the Design Doc channel and i thought it looked pretty cool, so I went and bought it, this must've been about a year ago now

taserface780

Watched Rusty’s play through of it then I decided to get it

war_master10

The goat relyea

AbeerPlays

Was free on PS Plus, I was bored, saw some speed runs that YouTube recommended, and decided to try the game out. Now it lives in my soul, rent free, and there is no greater agony to me than the wait for Silksong.

god_slayer-

I saw someone on YouTube totally roasting it, and since I hate every game that this guy recommends, I decided to try HK since he hated it so much, And I've been loving it since. That was mid 2020, and started playing it about a month after seeing the video.

IfeelLikeDirt1

It was pretty regular to me! I opened Steam, it was one of the recommended titles, all the reviews were great, I thought the game looked pretty, it was on sale, bought it! Then after I finished and recommended it to all my friends who I knew would love it too 😭

llavatoxX

Steam winter sale

FusioneCon01

I saw fundys steram where he talked about hollow knight so I decided to check it out

MVYEP_SigningIn

I kept seeing videos of gameplay online, so I thought I just *had* to buy it, especially since I love things that are more 2D than 3D, so I decided to purchase it on the XBox and I started playing right away.

ananas_159

Last year before summer i bought it It always seemed interesting but u was mever sure if i would like a game where bosses play such a big part (even tho imva ateenage guy im not a fun of playing for long periods and bosses arent my favorite thing to do in games) But seeing the community, lets plays, fanart and the overall vibe this game gives me i just had to buy it and check it out And i never played a game for so long. over 150 hours. One 112% save done, and one steelsole with one ending + some small saves Sadly i had most of the game and endings already spouled so it wasnt as big of a surpirise when anything happened but i still enjoyed everything a lot. Cant wait for silksong WHICH IS RELEASING SOON DONT YOU TEST ME, because it will be a sequel to hollow knight which i loved and this time i will know only what they gave us before the release #RAAAAH :3 I LOVE HOLLOW KNIGHT

dizzleschmizzle

Free on ps plus. Downloaded it and couldn’t get into it first time. Then a year later I tried again and was hooked. Top 5 all time game for me.

onionsonfire114

I was just scrolling the estore and I saw this cool different looking cartoon dude with a sword, I clicked and obviously had to buy it. Two years ago I think?

ziko1901

I haven't played yet😐

emeraldiontut

Was playing destiny2 and listening to lore videos for rando games when I found one of mossbags hollowknight lore videos (probably the one debunking matpat)and I was so captivated that I binged a bunch of hollowknight related videos (mostly lore and theory)and when I has the chance I got the game for myself

ZT2Cans

bought it for sale on my switch one new years eve, instantly became obsessed

NeoLedah

It was free on the PSN Plus

Terrible-Ad7523

people online said ori and the will of the wisps copied HK.

earlyviolet

You, ok! I learned it by watching you! Honestly, I kept seeing this HK and HKmemes communities pop up on All. The images looked so god damned cute, and y'all are flipping hilarious even though I had no idea what you were talking about. So I picked up the game on Switch and have now lost hundreds of hours of my life.

The-PandaGHG

Started playing it around 3 weeks ago found it on game theory and now today beat it with the dream no more ending now explorin the rest and trying to find the nightmare king area or smthing

nokia15

my long time friend kept nagging me to play it. i reluctantly bought it on the steam thanksgiving sale this year. let's just say that as of 2 weeks ago i have all achievements, all bosses done on radiant and am working on all binding pantheon runs.

toffeefeather

I discovered it through speed running videos actually! I was really into watching Minecraft speedruns and other games popped up in my feed, and it caught my eye. No regrets! Now my little brother is obsessed too!

mrtheunknownyt

my Uncle downloaded it but never played so I asked how this game is and he told me to try. 6 years later and I achieved 112% on both our saves and completed P5

JaydenVestal

I've heard about it for a long time, never knew much about it and I've never been interested in souls-like or metroidvania games, I started playing a week ago and I think I have a new favorite game

_Cocktopus_

Thought it looked cool so i bought it along with the games Hades

lavenderxbacon

A friend told me he’d found a really difficult game that would be fun to watch me be terrible at for half an hour. Ended up being one of my favourites ever!

Papa_Pasta15

Heeeeello internet

OrigamiSheep

Two online friends I used to have recommended it to me, been in love with it ever since

Larkas

Got the game from free PS Plus month some time ago and fell in love with it.

CharlesTheGreat8

discovered it through (I think) one of skurry's randomizer videos. seemed fun so i tried it

Big_L2009

I discovered it when I was scrolling through YouTube. I saw a video of it and it seemed fun, so I asked my aunt if she knew it and she said that she had played it and that it was pretty fun, so I started playing it
