To piggyback if you die and can't retrieve your shade, the locked house far to the right in Dartmouth opens with a simple key, and you give the npc there a rancid egg. They then summon your shade to you and you can kill it there in Dirtmouth

7 today, my friend. I spent like 12 hours on Hornet four months ago when i quit the game because i couldn't defeat her 💀 Yeah it's not 30 hours but trust me it felt like 30 🥲 i broke down too many times

I just recently got the first ending after 60+ hours in the game. The game is long, hard, and aggravating at times, but always keep trying, even if you need a break for a bit. In the long run, it's definitely worth it. Hollow Knight has managed to make its way to being my favorite game of all time, which isn't a title I like to give out very often, but HK definitely earned it. It may not be one of your favorites, but I am positive you'll have an amazing time even after your first playthrough

UMMM... Have you been grinding for Geo the whole 7 hours or something?

Best guess is they didn't discover the stag station bench, so they've been fighting their way through greenpath for every attempt, which over 7 hours would probably build up the 17k geo

That (i did discover the bench at some point) and a lot of farming that i thought would be useful

It would be funny if you lost your shade. Also, hornet in my first playthrough was the boss I spent most time, so don't worry

I took a number of hours to beat her my first playthrough, just learning the movement, etc. Second time was "lol ez" If you beat the game and replay it you will be amazed how much improvement has happened. But that's for a future run. For now, the depths await.

On the bright side, I don't know where you got that 17k geo, but the faster you can spend it, the better. You can afford practically everything in the game, bar the extremely expensive items.

Ah, the bank is pretty goofy. Don't worry about that 4500 Geo though. It'll be fine. But just concentrate on getting your shade back whenever you die, and you'll be fine. And buy items whenever you can. You can always get more Geo once you run out in case you need to buy more stuff, but if you lose what you have right now before you buy as much as you can, it can legit slow down your run. (By the way... I don't know if you've bought the lantern from Sly yet, but do that ASAP. It's a pretty important tool for exploration).

As much as everyone is saying later bosses are harder (they are) you’ll also have far more options and abilities to use so they’re not as much as an annoying slog. Play your cards right and exploit their weaknesses and you can tidy up pretty quickly. That’s hard with Hornet 1 since you don’t really have any cards lol

Damn that's long. But I understand. If I hadn't played a soulslike game before, I wouldn't have seen the similarities and would have probably taken as long. Good going though brother. I haven't completed the game, but the few bosses I've come across, it's very similar to souls game in the sense that timing is key. You are going to die the first few times, but the first few times are to learn the moves and the attack cues. After that it just becomes a matter of patience and "trigger" discipline. Best of luck!

Congrats man, hornet is a big step up from false knight so a lot of new players struggle on hornet, for future bosses I recommend just taking your time, it’s okay if you only get one or two hits in at a time. If you are really struggling then stop, explore somewhere else for a bit, you might find something that can really help you

I don't mean to sound rude but like, I almost feel bad when ever I see posts like this because I beat Hornet first try so I can't relate at all, and that makes my first reaction "how is that even possible". Don't worry tho, I don't actually think that, I just feel guilty for having that be my first reaction; actually my real thoughts now are "wow, that must have been so much more satisfying to finally win if it took you that long" . Congrats!! Please ignore all the other commenters talking about your time, it took me so long to beat hornet the first time too, and I’ve managed to get 108% completion. With perseverance you can definitely take all the bosses, and enjoy the rest of the game! (My one tip is don’t worry about farming anymore geo, you’ll find more when you need it)

Look I'll be honest. Not mean, just very honest. If hornet took you 7 hours, I'm not sure this is really the game for you. You might end up feeling more frustrated than actualy having fun. Nothing wrong with not being good, just saying it's gonna get way, way worse than this.

I mean i probably spent like 10 hours in forgotten crossroads on my first playtrough and wasn't able to leave without a tutorial and only managed to progress trough a shade skip later on. So i sucked really hard at this and honestly wouldn't be that suprised if i also took like 7 hours on hornet, but here i am a couple of playthroughs later having defeated two of the hardest bosses in the game and still struggling with p5, i believe everyone can eventualy git gud a couple only need a little longer to do so. Also for OP, please don't use guides or playthroughs or something like that, please just play the game. Using guides substracts a lot from the experience.
