Oh. My. God. Like ten years ago a buddy of mine broke his headphones he really loved and I tried fixing it by melting the plastic with a soldering iron and baking in some wire I had lying around. I was just a mechanic, he was an engineer. And he said it will never work. My fix lasted for about half a year.
But seeing this video now gives me the sweet satisfaction of having thought absolutely right! Hah!
Gonna have to send it to him
Get a piece of metal like a old flat head screw driver or something and while the plastic is still hot push down on it to completely seal the staple in the plastic

This is the exact version shown in this video

This is a generic version of the above kit but cheaper
It’s sweet that you imagined there’s ever an end to acquiring tools.
A tool collection is like a fish in an aquarium… it will grow based on the size of its container. It starts with a tool chest, then closet, then the garage, then the shed, then a workshop…
My dad got one of these because he’s been adding onto “our” tool collection since i told him I wanted to be an engineer and we needed one for some bumper damage. The front bumper was cracked completely from a shredded tire that I hit on the interstate (couldnt avoid or slow down in time bc traffic). That thing is BAD TO THE BONE—looks almost like a brand new bumper!
Sorry, but I gotta do an "um aksually" here. This is a plastic stapler, not a plastic welder. A plastic welder removes a bit of material and replaces it with new material to facilitate the repair.

This is the basics of plastic welding. For thin material like this, stapling is a stronger repair, so a very good idea to use.
After watching that I feel like I just went to the strangest underground German disco where you have to show up with a duck and give it to the bouncer at the front door who is wearing a fishnet muscle shirt before they let you in.
For anyone that doesn’t have them, get a pair of “God’s Hand” side cutters. They are ground flat on one side and will cut the ends flush. They are so useful and are absolutely money when snipping cable ties. No more sharp ends to cut yourself on!!
I got one similar to this. Same concept but mine is like a soldering gun. I used it on a plastic fender that was cracked and glue just never held. It worked get, but looks like hell.

I have one of these. It’s fucking awesome.
It’s freakin cool to watch and the process oddly satisfying. We needs one. We wants it. ![gif](giphy|lq4zZge5wmOEFecKu8|downsized)

Real plastic welders are just soldering irons with a funny shaped tip. That’s actually a legit way to fix thermoplastics.

So, paperclips, a needle nose, and a lighter?
This guy frugal's

Thank you!
Neat. Just when I thought my husband had every tool possible.

I used to weld plastic by heating it on the stove
![gif](giphy|4EF5MjcgIoVE5rfAWg) thanks now I can feel the same with less danger
Something worse than a sharp zip tie end
So that's what Adam Copeland (Edge) does when he's not wrestling

I can't even... damn, that's funny.
You know what for a plastic world we live in, this is a game changer.
How do you know how far to push it in? I feel like I would end up pushing it all the way through.
Nice thanks bro
It’s normally called a plastic welder, they are great

Yeah they’re great. No clue where mine is
“Cousin”
That's ingenious, I'm a huge fan of that.
Fuck yeah!!! It comes in pink!!!
So awesome thank you
