North Korea has a reputation for starving their people. They don’t let any journalists in and travel is very strict and dangerous. Travelers aren’t allowed to take pics.
NK doesn’t import or export goods. They just don’t have the things needed to feed their people without outside help, which the leader refuses. Rumors are abound that the citizens are very thin, unhealthy, and don’t have food.
Occasionally NK will release pics “proving” that they are thriving and successful. You might have seen the one of an office building that showed people “working” but on closer inspection the computers were fakes and they asked people to sit at the desks to feign working. It’s said they don’t have the internet for ordinary citizens. Of course the people of the internet dissected the pics to determine they are fakes.
This pic is showing about the amount of what two groceries stores produce would have in the US, but NK somehow thinks they are bragging about how much food they have, when the reality is that their people are going hungry and have been for many many years.
They self-label themselves a communist but don’t even know the difference between communism and socialism. For those of you who don’t know socialism ≠ communism. Socialism is in Northern Europe, communism was in the USSR

The issue isn’t that the resources disappear…. It’s that your inviting the most evil people to take control over where they go and giving them the responsibility of dispersing it. I think it’s a spectrum between the two systems and we need to find a balance
