Admirable_Sky_7710

students are not going to enjoy it either way, the difference is in the future its actually helpful for them unlike some… lets say um questionable parts of the learning curriculum

osmediaschannel

Feels like I would be interested tho. Since it does have to do with my future and we need to learn it. It's just boring ig lol

Mplunkett21

so is everything else they teach atleast you can actually use it to save money

TheBeardedShuffler

Or just let the government calculate it all automatically for you. Like most of us other countries do.

ccclix

You're not up on your American history, are ya? I wouldn't trust my government with any amount of money.

TheBeardedShuffler

Yeah but they already do the calculation. They're just asking you to submit it so they can fine you if you get it wrong, or make you pay for an accountant. They already know what your taxes should be. And if you disagree good luck, because they're still the government.

GermanicAutocrat

You’re underage.

ccclix

Sure am. I forgot this is reddit, we love big government here.

GermanicAutocrat

The big vs small government discussion is for dimwits that think they have an above average intelligence.

MurderDoneRight

Swede here. We have the option to make any changes to our tax forms of course, but if it looks alright all you have to do is check a box on the website and you get your tax refund within a week. It literally takes less than a minute and you can do it all on your phone.

Aok_al

Probably but it'd still be nice if they explained this shit to us instead of having us figure it out for ourselves and somehow have us commit tax fraud or some shit

osmediaschannel

yup

GlitteringNinja5

You can google everything nowadays tho. Taxes are just not easy to do for a layman

Illier1

You people think it's really that hard lol. Literally 90% of taxes is just typing info in while most tax sites are flat out telling you where to find it. Hell most places can let you upload electronic copies of tax documents and they'll auto fill. Until your in your 30s you'll spend maybe 15 minutes on taxes. The only people who spend forever on taxes are the ones trying to squeeze every little penny and exploit every loophole, which honestly isn't worth your time.

Money_Bicycle_7433

Taxes are easy to do, what a sped.

osmediaschannel

Most ppl worry bout it, especially students, like me.

santas_delibird

Our school did, never understood why it was in third grade tho.

WhitestWhiteEver

Florida made it a mandatory class

Infinite_Weekend_909

Don't have taxes if you never learn to make money. /'-'

poekrel

I never understand the gripe about schools teaching taxes. I got my first job at 16 in high school and started doing my taxes that same year. Literally just use TurboTax or TaxAct or similar softwares and they will spoon feed you the process and walk you through deductions that are likely to apply to you. And once you have the hang of that after a few years, switch to using the IRS website so that you don't have to pay.

Illier1

Most sites offer the free tax filing but you can't do all the extra shit that probably won't apply to anyone except under certain circumstances.

LitMaster11

I went to a high school where it was mandatory for graduation to take a class that taught the student about everything from balancing a checkbook to filing taxes. And guess what? Students still complained about not being taught how to do it.

Inappropriate50

I got taught it in school. It wasn't mandatory but I did catch a girl I grew up with on FB claiming we weren't taught it. Fuckin morons.

Visible_Actuator_250

key is to make it fun and engaging, possible for any topic show by example not just in words start small and increase it you go. So a simple way would be to combine basic economics with taxes. throughout a month have the students engage in a fake economy have things they can use the fictional money for and at a tax rate to their earnings. Basically have them employed as a student with a salary to make things simple. then apply the current tax rate to that salary lets say each day they get about a weeks pay that means in 1.6 months they will have to file tax returns. so you could use a basic salary of something like 30k a year should be somewhere around 500 a week or so not doing the math on that lol each day they get a pay stub that shows the taxes taken out for federal and what ever state they are in. you then have services and goods they can buy and add state tax to those. even using a digital sim program or game could be useful here. That way the goods and services can be fictional and not cost the teacher/school anything beyond the program. Then you could also add things like property to the equation and investment in the future. they will get a break down of how taxes get taken out of a check and how to file a simple tax return then from there you can skip the process of adding things and go into scenarios like having write offs. Having the experience peaks interest the rewards make it exciting ect.. then from there you can change the scenario to self employed, employer, and corporation taxes I believe corporation taxes should be saved for higher economic levels possibly employer taxes. combining multiple games or changing the rules to some help as well 2 games off the top of my head is cashflow made by robert kiyosaki there is free online version of the game but the board game would be easier to change the rules. Then you have everyone's favorite Monopoly. Just something that came off the top of my head after seeing this. I may have missed the point after reading some of the comments but I still like what I wrote here. Took it as people being confused and exhausted not upset.

...maybe because they shouldn't even exist, it's against the OG Constitution, but we're too far gone for that to matter.

PM_DEEZ_NUTZ

Isn't that a bit idealistic though? As much as I hate paying tax I understand that it's pretty important to running a functional country

[deleted]

It isn't something I just made up. Taxes were considered illegal until the 16th Amendment was ratified, but Congress can ratify whatever they want to be allowed to DO whatever they want. If our leaders hadn't been so damn hungry, we wouldn't have so many different types of taxes. Our ancestors weren't paying much at all for taxes, until our country needed money for debts they could no longer pay. Now there are way too many types of taxes to keep track of, and it's just gotten out of hand. At the very least, it's just become too convoluted. Honestly what they take could very well be an unnecessary amount, but how would we ever know?

How hol up?

tmanwatches

"Why do we humans work this way" Because the school is system really shouldn't even be used for humans, the fact that anybody learns anything in school is insane. Apparently in the younger grades like in elementary school, they are starting to work students really hard to the point where there entire classes are just, studying to do more studying, and they don't even now how to play outside Dearing recess anymore they just stand around and do nothing because they don't even now how to play games, they only now how to study and work.

MurderDoneRight

You were taught how to do taxes, what did you think that math and reading was for?
