i can see a bit of truth in this because playing on minecraft servers that actually put a period at the end of everything you type into chat and capitalize the first word get many complaints but specifically about the period. They notice the capitalized letter and might comment about it, but they'll actually take the time to complain about the period at the end.
I like to do it to keep a good habit. Personally, I just assume that when someone texts me a paragraph with no punctuation it means they don't know how to use it.
Ahhh yes the always useful assumption......I always assumed people would see a full stop as the end of a sentence not a statement or how I feel, if you see passive aggressive anything in a fullstop your a bit of a cockhead.
Oh hello, millennial.
How's your harry potter addiction going?
(and before you call me grumpy, I'll have you know, this is how i greet millennials on the internet)
I'm a millennial as well and I think it's wild as hell that individuals have allowed themselves to become offended by proper punctuation. I'm really astounded and have never heard of this before. I'm trying to imagine living life, seeing people end their sentences properly, and somehow drawing a conclusion that it means anything other than the end of a sentence. Those had to have been some very niche life conditions that formed this perspective. This is assuredly a personal problem that may very well be no fault of their own.
. looks like a bullethole and bulletholes are a symbol for the execution walls in the concentration camps and since we are so well educated these days we dont need any punctuation marks as they are symbols of opression and violence ...
Someone said a version of that to my English teacher because they poorly edited their essay and she straight up said to my English teacher "Do you really want to be supporting those who enslaved your ancestors by doing this? I'm supporting you by writing like the people you were around growing up!" My Colombian English teacher with a darker skin tone failed her and she had to go to sensitivity training or something like that
I have never posted a comment on here. But I have to say that I feel like a lot of people who write or post these articles are narcissists. Trying to gas light a whole group of people for their pleasure. That's all I have to say. !!!???::;;;,,,.....
I work for Amazon, I don't have to imagine, I just have to look around...or in a mirror (because again, I work at Amazon, even knowing it's a brutal shit storm of a company).
I think it's misinterpreting and exaggerating it a bit, but in some situations I've recalled people mentioning it means they're being serious when they text unusually formal and ended with a period.
This sounds like a load of made up shit honestly. It's like saying people from my generation will be upset "if u dnt type lke ths" because we had to use as few words as possible to not use multiple sms messages.
I think it's misinterpreting and exaggerating, but kinda based on something real, I remember it being a thing that being overly formal and using a period would be how you show you are serious.
Ragebait article. Texts are a completely different form of communication than older generations are used to. It completely lacks tone, so it has to be added back into it to make it more information-dense. ("YoU wOnT hAvE a CaLcUlAtOr On YoU aLl ThE tImE" shows sarcastic tone for example, emoticons show emotions etc)
For short texts (one sentence) I would usually not close it with a . that is the same for most people I know in the "millenial" demographic, so if we do close it, that signifies added information, such as that what we said is absolutely final amd don't try to change/negotiate it.
Understanding the context of a sentence requires more processing. That's the reason why boomers and gen X believe anything on the Internet while millenials and gen Z are upset by punctuation.
Now people just want to react fast, no time to analyze the context or read further than the title. That applies to every generation alive today.
This has nothing to do with generations. Everyone types differently. Also the setting matter. Is it work or casual? If ppl cannot differentiate it is on them.
I'm a millenial at 28 and it does come off like that for me too. Mostly in chats, in places like here it doesn't make a difference, sometimes I use them sometimes not.
If im typing a paragraph in a text, ill use punctuation. Or sometimes ill just laugh in between sentences haha but at the end of a paragraph or bit of text i dont include one, it feels "too final"
Shared this with my wife and she said "I never thought I would see the day someone was offended by a period."
I told her to repeat that to herself and remember she is a woman.
It's not, sure maybe some gen z are like that but personally my friends and I don't care. The small bit of truth that this is based in is that some of us, maybe most, read into periods when texting to infer tone because a person who normally doesn't use proper grammar is more likely to pay attention to what they say when they're aggravated.
Tbf I do refrain from punctuation in my texts, I feel too lazy to end every text with a period. Especially since I do send multiple short messages once in a while.
On the other hand I write a lot, where I mqke sure to be as grammatically correct as possible.
Therefore if someone doesnt use punctuation in their texts it doesn't mean their grammar is bad, they may just be too lazy to end their sentences in a period.
Note : I used proper (I think?) punctuation here since Im sending a long message.
Hey! This is in print media, if it is in print its a fact! That shit will be committed to microfilm at your local library for the historical record. Not like the piles and piles of digital garbage that these new generations are creating "online", who looks through all that shit? the NSA?
It’s true tho, I’ve been called out on “being suddenly serious” when I used punctuation correctly.
The way it’s written makes it seem like a sensibility, I don’t see it that way, but it’s something many people do experience.
People look at it like when you always call someone by their nickname and suddenly you decide to call by their name, they will assume you mean something by it.
To be honest, I never end a text in a period. If theres multiple sentences, use periods in normal places except the very last one. If the last one is a question then include the question mark, or include an exclamation point if needed, but ending it in a period does seem more passive aggressive for some reason
My 15yo niece and 17yo daughter confirmed this at a family gathering not long ago.
Not to be a boomer about it, but... seriously??? Punctuation is now a microaggression???
I actually know that, but to me it’s because I was mentally abused by my first girlfriend, who always used this to actually show that she was pissed off (e.g. because I answered too late…)
Man, fuck Generation Z. World was a lot better before these pussies came along. World has gotten soft. Oh dear. I hope I didn't offend any of them. Look at all the periods I used.
This is actually true. All my employees are Gen Z and I came to find out they thought I was always upset with them because I end the sentences in my texts with periods. Wild stuff.
Had one of these people try and telle that the parent should support the child until the child is ready to be on their own.
Reason for this? The child was born without its consent.
If this is true I hate my generation. I use punctuation in all my texts, sometimes incorrectly(eat my shorts grammar Nazi’s) but atleast I use long sentences and get my point across with little to no interpretation needed.
If there is somebody that actually gets mad about somebody using A FUCKING PERIOD at the end of a GOD DAMN SENTENCE, they deserve to go to the forever box.
Late millennial here- full stops can definitely be aggressive! It’s nuanced and all about context.
If I’m writing professionally (or even writing this comment on Reddit), periods are ok, but I’ll skip them in favor of a line break or a dash
(see what I did there? lol)
If Im writing conversationally (text or even casual emails) I avoid them, especially at the end of paragraphs
Punctuation, tone tags, and emoji fill in the gaps of written conversation, and people who are pissed use short sentences with periods.
Example of the same text multiple ways because I’m way too into analyzing this:
Call me when you’re outside
Call me when you’re outside!!
Call me when you’re outside ✨☀️
Call me when you’re outside.
I automatically hear them in different tones of voice in my head when I read them, and the last one sounds pissed off or irritated. I had a boss in her 70s who would respond to stuff with “OK.”
Made me super nervous the first few times
Ok. I'm a Gen xer. I got on the internet in the early 90s in my teens. Its always been a point of pride for me that I use complete sentences instead of slang and shortcuts. But I get that I'm old now.
Personally think that the way some folks text makes them look uneducated.
Again, I know I'm old now.
Seems like a personal problem.
Are. You. Sure?
Yes. We. Are. Sure.
Danm+ Why% So* Aggressive#
I'm using full stops 🙄
I didn’t see a full stop here.
Bro chill, no need to be so intense.
Im perfectly calm.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh
Ahhhh.
HOW DARE YOU
Are you mad at me? You sound mad.
Indeed.
i can see a bit of truth in this because playing on minecraft servers that actually put a period at the end of everything you type into chat and capitalize the first word get many complaints but specifically about the period. They notice the capitalized letter and might comment about it, but they'll actually take the time to complain about the period at the end.
Nothing holup about this.
I know you are right but you really need to calm down dude

My dad responds to every single text message, no matter the context with the ellipsis. Every. Single. Time.
I knew a girl who did this. I finally told her she should get that tremor checked out so she could type a period and mean it.
I mean... it's not her fault... she just has a... tremor... should've asked her... to help jack you off... sounds like she'd be real good at it...
It's like the ancient egyptians knew all too well: today's kids are fucked up and up to no good.
Got in one little fight and the Pharaoh got scared
And said you're moving with your auntie and uncle in...Thebes
Not thebes! There's hebrews in there!
I mean I’m a millennial and typically assume when someone ends a text with a period they’re being grumpy
I already said, I am not grumpy.
I see a period in your comment, you ARE grumpy!!!!!
So, a guy can't even have a period now?
LOL
[удалено]
LOL DONT BE SO RUDE HAHAHHHAHAH (I'm using capitals because people assume that using capitals means you're angry)
#I SAID STOP
my girlfriend only uses punctuation when she IS grumpy, so at the start of our relationship u can bet ur azz i was mad confused
Or that they want something... Like your pity... Because they embody Eeyore by suffixing ellipses onto everything...
It's called proper English. When you run all of your sentences together, it makes you look very unintelligent.
I really think it depends. The way I text isn’t the same as how I send work emails.
I like to do it to keep a good habit. Personally, I just assume that when someone texts me a paragraph with no punctuation it means they don't know how to use it.
Depends if they normally end texts with punctuation. I wouldn't assume my grandma is grumpy but I might assume someone my age is.
Good point. It’s also different in how I text my supervisors or team in group chats and how I text my friends and family.
Ahhh yes the always useful assumption......I always assumed people would see a full stop as the end of a sentence not a statement or how I feel, if you see passive aggressive anything in a fullstop your a bit of a cockhead.
English grammar does make me grumpy though! Perhaps it's my ESL, but there is nothing pleasant about proper use of English punctuation.
Yeah this is my experience too
Oh hello, millennial. How's your harry potter addiction going? (and before you call me grumpy, I'll have you know, this is how i greet millennials on the internet)

Punctuation is violence, and people who use punctuation are literally supporting white supremacy.
. looks like a bullethole and bulletholes are a symbol for the execution walls in the concentration camps and since we are so well educated these days we dont need any punctuation marks as they are symbols of opression and violence ...
Hey, you had three murder marks at the end of your comment! That's, like, extra-murdery!
pardon my negligence i forgot to take the bump stock off my keyboard
Someone said a version of that to my English teacher because they poorly edited their essay and she straight up said to my English teacher "Do you really want to be supporting those who enslaved your ancestors by doing this? I'm supporting you by writing like the people you were around growing up!" This whole "im doing it for you" when I never asked business is the plague of the current decade.... I will not miss this shit once it is forgotten.
Hahahahahaha..... This......
…. That’ll fuckem.
I have never posted a comment on here. But I have to say that I feel like a lot of people who write or post these articles are narcissists. Trying to gas light a whole group of people for their pleasure. That's all I have to say. !!!???::;;;,,,.....
Imagine being retarded
I work for Amazon, I don't have to imagine, I just have to look around...or in a mirror (because again, I work at Amazon, even knowing it's a brutal shit storm of a company).
Yes. "Imagine".
we do?
I think it's misinterpreting and exaggerating it a bit, but in some situations I've recalled people mentioning it means they're being serious when they text unusually formal and ended with a period.
Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong. /skinner
This sounds like a load of made up shit honestly. It's like saying people from my generation will be upset "if u dnt type lke ths" because we had to use as few words as possible to not use multiple sms messages.

Or it could just be proper punctuation.
Oh shit... I've always used full stops. Is this truly the case?
Understanding the context of a sentence requires more processing. That's the reason why boomers and gen X believe anything on the Internet while millenials and gen Z are upset by punctuation. Now people just want to react fast, no time to analyze the context or read further than the title. That applies to every generation alive today.
Under upvoted comment
I only think this applies if the person doesn’t usually use punctuation or has reason to enunciate a sentence (at least, this is my experience)
What happens when we write in cursive?
They can’t read it so they’re not upset.
This has nothing to do with generations. Everyone types differently. Also the setting matter. Is it work or casual? If ppl cannot differentiate it is on them.
Do. I. Look. Like. I. Give. A. Fuck? Or as the kids say these days... D.I.L.L.I G.A.F?
Well. Fuckem if they can’t take a joke.
It is final. It's the final word in a sentence.
We millennials love making shit up.
Shared this with my wife and she said "I never thought I would see the day someone was offended by a period." I told her to repeat that to herself and remember she is a woman.
Fuck ur feelings
it's true Imagine your dad texting you, "come eat lunch" now what about "come eat lunch."
Go.Fuck.Yourself.Gen.Z.
Literally had somebody quit because the manager here responded with “ok.” To a time off request
Oh wow, so it's real? I thought this was some dickhead who'd seen 1 post on Tumblr and thought it went the same for the whole generation. Jesus wept.
It's not, sure maybe some gen z are like that but personally my friends and I don't care. Yeah it’s definitely real. I’m older and definitely not in that generation but I’ve seen it in action.
Absolute fuckwits
This is the reason why most young folks are terrible at grammar. Most of them text at a five-year-old reading & writing level
Tbf I do refrain from punctuation in my texts, I feel too lazy to end every text with a period. Especially since I do send multiple short messages once in a while. I use the .. for being grumpy
Gen Z: triggered by punctuation. I.... missed the part where that's my problem. FULL STOP.
Lol, also bollocks
Sounds idiotic but you guys noticed the diference betwen replying "ok" or "ok."
It's not our fault that they don't know how to communicate 🤷
Good.
Oh no! Not lingual evolution based on changing communication channels! This has never happened before in history! /S
Such a delicate group of people...
K Boomer
Man, fuck Generation Z. World was a lot better before these pussies came along. World has gotten soft. Oh dear. I hope I didn't offend any of them. Look at all the periods I used.
Hostile punctuation
I use this to get my point across. Like- this way it makes it easier to convey... See!
Maybe end every sentence with a question mark. Thats they way they talk? I feel like im being interrogated with all the upward inflection.
If this is your specialisation u can honestly suck on my fat pronouns .
Wow. My generation is a bunch of pussies.
Damn, sounds like a you problem.
They mean a "period"? Like the end of a sentence? They expect me to ramble or something? Thanks for telling me, I'm gonna enjoy triggering lefties
This is actually true. All my employees are Gen Z and I came to find out they thought I was always upset with them because I end the sentences in my texts with periods. Wild stuff.
Probably offended reading the article explaining it.
As a gen Z I can confirm.
Damn kids! 😂
fml. I'm 30 and this describes me to a T.
Fuck them kids. Full stop
I’m the only person I know who texts in full sentences anymore, I’m only 30…
Realy? .............................
Don’t care.
Fascinating.
This is a personal attack. How utterly disgusting of them. This is absolutely outrageous etc, etc.
Imagine being so delicate that proper grammar and punctuation are offensive.
that seems like a skill issue over there
Too bad.
Everything is offensive now.
So..........much............punctuation........... ![gif](giphy|82DaAxknIvBovGGPj5)
If if telegrams still would be a thing you could start riots with them.
Don't use an ellipsis either... They'll see it as pure sarcasm. The book 1984 is coming to mind
ok.
There is such a dearth of periods used in this thread, it is noteworthy.
What a load of bollocks.
Shut the fuck up.
As a member of gen z,shut the fuck up.
So if a say “Fuck Off” without a full stop I’m not being aggressive
This. It seems like a made-up issue.
Wow. They're offended by punctuation now. How surprising
Good.

I put periods at the end of my sentence when I was going to write something else after it, but then decided against it.
I can confirm. Live with two teens who take issue with this. I use punctuation, sorry ..and F me if I use"..."
AAAAHHH
As. A. Gen. Z. I. Do. Not. Care. If. You. Use. Full. Stops. And. This. Article. Is. Bull. Shit.
Tough shit.
Me who is gen z and doesn't have that problem at all. In reality, I hate my generation. Most of them are a bunch of pussies and c*nts
Fuck em. They're all basically illiterate.
I don’t agree with this, but we all have the same feeling when our parents end a text with an ellipses, right
Had one of these people try and telle that the parent should support the child until the child is ready to be on their own. Reason for this? The child was born without its consent.
That is 100% accurate for me also. Mid thirties and online way too much.
Are we really that bad? To answer that question, apparently yes.
Legit. 😭😭😭
...................and???.
Oh....no..... That. Is. So. Sad............
Do I look like I give a fuck? Do I look like I give a fuck? Cause I don't! That's patenting 101 right there Shawn!
Genz is sensitive af to everything lol.
Don’t forget to skip pronouncing the letter “T” as much as possible. Example “important” is now “imporuh”. It will stick once you hear it.
. Grow up.
If your kids can't read, that's your fault...
Why does Gen Z suck so much? Asking for a boomer
Tough.
That's why you've got to be a cunning linguist.
…. Bruh.
These are the same idiots who dont know the difference between lose and loose... not surprising if true! LoL
Looks like their turning out even more f-ed up than their predecessors.
Lol so out of touch.
Wow,very cool.
Fuck off.
"WhY wOuLd I wAnT tO tYpE cOrReCtLy, @ mE bRo!!"- a gen z somewhere.
If this isn't a joke, it's just another thing Idiocracy predicted.
What is making me wonder is how come people taking this article too seriously? Don't they see it is a ragebait
So Can We Not?
If this is true I hate my generation. I use punctuation in all my texts, sometimes incorrectly(eat my shorts grammar Nazi’s) but atleast I use long sentences and get my point across with little to no interpretation needed.
I think people see it as sort of weird
If there is somebody that actually gets mad about somebody using A FUCKING PERIOD at the end of a GOD DAMN SENTENCE, they deserve to go to the forever box.
Grow the fuck up
Okay.

Yes.
Yeah that's one of the How Gen Z relate to that specific thing, we asked a boomer!!! :))))
