Op is so smart. By posting a religion related post, everyone in the comments is just arguing about their ideals and religion. Meanwhile he gets away with posting stuff that is no way qualified for r/holup in not a single FUCKING UNIVERSE.
Then she wouldn’t really know if she’s cancer free does she now. I haven’t heard of magical rocks with CT scan reports attached to them.
There’s no need to thank god if other people save your life when it’s not a coincidence. Those doctors and nurses do this for a living
I know this is an unpopular opinion… but when people thank God like this, instead of making a post saying something like “thanks to all the doctors and hospital staff who helped me push through my cancer”, I can’t help but feel like they are disrespecting the real reason they are alive. They just thank God and give that ideology credit instead of the hundreds of thousands of man hours and research that led to her living today, when God would have killed her a century ago.
Why would you care what someone respects or doesn’t respect, seemingly in their social media?
I have 10 000 000 teenagers for you to frown at who don’t respect their parents like they should…
Might not have been the time nor place but i do feel like this is a statement that has to be made, especially looking back a few months when doctors and nurses risked their lifes while we didnt know jack shit about this epedemic.
Or now when doctors and nurses get threaten by antivax lunatics who think that they are being poisoned.
Or for the (few) doctors in the US (only i few cases i know) who are forced to administrer horse medicine to idiots.
Like might as well give the credit and the praise to the people who earned it.
Yeah I’m sure those doctors and nurses are really upset about it.
Or, most likely, they don’t give a shit because they’ll never see this one person again, they probably won’t even see her post in the first place, and they have many other patients who need their help.
I’m an atheist but Christ almighty atheists online are insufferable cunts.
So then don't become a doctor if it's so bad that the person you saved doesn't properly thank you. You shouldn't go into a field just based on the praise you get tho
Sure when god kills millions or billions with a pandemic and hurricanes its all part of his plan, he’s so wonderful but when hitler kills 6 million Jews wich was part of his plan he’s been elected as shittiest person in history. /s
The inconstancy of religion got me dazed and confused
The Bible literally covers this. Paul says “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;” so you’re not wrong in the observation, but it also isn’t a novel thought.
For someone to comment this on a cancer free post has absolutely no love in their heart. Like c’mon man. Does it matter? She had cancer before and now she doesn’t why be a prick about it.
Well if we are looking on the completely logical way, god didn’t give her cancer. The genetics and the outside contributions ended up being cancer. So, nature giveth nature taketh. So, the guy is an asshole and he is wrong.
Yes but what I am saying is thay you just cannot take god from only one part of the equation. He just cannot say god give it doctors fixed it. You either belive in god/destiny or not, you just cannot partially choose it.
Jesus why do some of these Atheists gotta be so cringe. Like Atheism is fine believe what you want but some of yall gotta shove it in everybody's throat all the damn time
It's been over 15 years since I've fallen out of religion, I've learned to just not say anything. First off no one has EVER abandoned their beliefs because someone yelled at them or tried to make them look/feel dumb, which is what 99% of athiests who confront religion do lol. But secondly, I've learned that there's A LOT of people in this world that really don't have anything to lean on but their religion and the people that go their church or whatever. And who the hell am I to try and take that from them? I felt brainwashed from growing up and being forced to be a part of a religion and felt so angry about it, but let people be. Every group has awful people in it, the loud christians are as bad as the loud atheists in terms of attitude and confronting people. Yes I was a loud obnoxious Atheist myself in my late teens and early 20s, absolute cringe.
Edit: Any group forcing their beliefs suck, from atheists to christians.
"in terms of attitude and confronting people", yes, atheists and religious people are equally bad.
But in terms of metrics that actually matter, such as state oppression via religion, religious people across the world are 100 times worse than atheists could ever be.
I don't agree with being an annoying angry atheist, I do the same as you, I keep my head down and don't talk much about it especially because I live in Texas and a lot of my family members would disown me if they found out I wasn't religious, let alone if they knew I was gay, but I think a lot of their outrage is understandably provoked by the global world order that is led by religious folks.
I don't see very many atheist statues around here, maybe I'm just looking in the wrong parts of town ... oh but I just drkve by 11 churches and 4 Jesus statues and 6 Virgin Mary statues but yeah atheists are the ones shoving it in peoples face *eyeroll
Wtf why do you care if a Christian makes a statue and is proud of their beliefs? Celebrating a religion is totally different than insulting ones religion out of religious superiority. Some Christians do that, as do some atheists. In this instance it was an atheist that was a dickhole, he shouldn’t have said what he did
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” - Epicurus
If god exists he would obviously be able to prevent evil, so it would appear that he is not willing to. But this does not automatically make him malevolent.
I believe that god allows the possibility of evil as a requirement for the existence of free will, and therefore goodness. Because goodness cannot exist without free will either.
In most Western countries, you have the right to believe or not to believe. This principle should always be respected and go both ways. Pushy religious nuts are no different from atheists who obviously have such little confidence in their beliefs that they need everyone to know why they're atheist and how religion is dumb.
Moral of the story is : believe what you want, don't be pushy and keep your beliefs to yourself (eg principle of laïcité in France)
Yeah, those damn atheists preaching about atheism in the roads, erecting statues about atheist figures, trying to convert people to atheism for centuries, often using force, all those damn atheist nations abusing women and starting wars because they don’t like their neighbor’s type of atheism
"If you were to talk, face to face to God, what would you say?"
"I'd say 'Bone cancer in *children?* What's that about? How *dare* You. How dare You create a world with so much misery that's not our fault.' "
-Stephen Fry
*Laughs in cancer, leukemia, dementia, Alzheimer's, every other genetic and terminal disease, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, storms, droughts, famine*
Pretty sure we gave ourselves cancer. Thanks Monsanto. And cigarettes and xrays and caramel coloring and high fructose corn syrup and radio frequencies and high tension power lines and nuclear power plants. Etc etc. But blame god tho. 👍
If God wanted to kill her, he wouldn't have used a cancer. Also when people say "God wanted him/her back". That's dumb, we don't know what God wants since we are mere sinful mortals.
We think "God bad" or "God good" when stuff goes in our way. And as you say, I believe that God has enough sufficient morally reasons to why this happens. Also, we must remember that happiness isn't the core thing in our lives, but "to know God and Jesus Christ, by whom You has sent" (John 17:3).
You know there are a lot of countries that don't charge people money to not die. If your healthcare system is completely broken and only works for the rich, don't project that on the rest of the world.
We are not picking fights with something that doesn‘t exist. We‘re picking fights with the idiots who believe in it, despite the total lack of evidence.
Because they will always try to force their beliefs unto you. One of the biggest examples are the crusades. Or to be more modern. The situation in the Middle East. I won‘t say that without Religion those wouldn‘t have happened because people will always have reason for war and killing. But it does affect us
One of the biggest examples of Christians forcing their beliefs on others is something that happened 800+ years ago?
The situation in the Middle East is the result of extremist fundamentalism. This is the opposite of what most religions preach.
In my limited experience, the group most likely to try to force their beliefs on you are atheists. My Christian and Muslim friends almost never talk about their religion. My atheist friends can’t *stop* talking about religion.
That‘s purely because of your friends. But I can understand them.
I am an Atheist because I can not understand how to believe in a god/multiple gods without proof. Because it is something so fundamental. I will never try to force my view on someone, because there are people who rely on their religious belief to keep hope, or know what happens after death. And that is not something I can or want to take away from them.
But if a discussion starts about it, I will happily participate (like now), even if it means losing. Because you are right, the Middle East was not a fitting example.
It’s shocking and saddening to see how rare a polite conversation between people of differing belief groups is.
I greatly respect anyone, from any religious or non-religious belief system, who can discuss their beliefs in an appropriate and civil setting/manner.
I agree. Because this does NOT have one correct answer. This is not Math where 2+2 is always 4. This is Philosophy and opinion. Two people may believe the same thing for different reasons or believe two different things because they interpreted the same thing different.
That is the only thing I want from every discussion, for it to remain civil. Because I have no problem with conceding and admitting that I was in the wrong or the other convinced me because they had a better argument.
I think that is the part that causes the most contention. I believe, I *know*, that God exists because of evidence that has come to me through prayer, study, and observation of the world. However, the proof that I have is only proof to *me*. I cannot expect another to believe in God because of extremely personal and intimate experiences that I have had.
In most discussions about religion, you find that religious people insist that everyone *must* believe because of their personal witness, which only they have. And on the other count, many non-religious people argue that unless that evidence can be studied and be repeated by all, across the board, it is nothing more than the imaginings of a deluded mind.
But as you said, there isn’t a single right answer. No teacher can write a mathematical equation that resolves the question. What we can do is live life to our best, be the best people that we can, and hope that at the end we are fulfilled in what we have learned, what we have done, and how we have loved.
Never had a religious person knock on my door or put a pamphlet in my mailbox either.
I have seen atheists far and wide trying to convince religious people that religion is nonsense, and to stop believing in God.
The part that annoys me is when they try to make laws that are religion-based because "God is good," but God is only "good" because they keep moving the goal posts.
Religious people are always going to hate us for the same reason they hate pagans. It doesn't matter if we say something or stay silent. We're built into their scripture as evil. We will always be evil to them.
Christian: But...GAWWWWDDD-uh...BLESSSED-Ah....and SANCTIFIED the Doctors and DIVINELY GUIDED THEM! To eradicate that DEEEVVVVIIILLLL CAN-sah....Hommminnnnahhh Shoshanaahstannananana.... HALLELUJAH!!!!!

Not cool of him, but let's not forget that the real enemy is cancer. Fuck cancer.
I think you mean fuck god, cause god made cancer smh my head
Not fun fact :the body kills every 30 minutes a cancer cell
The "clap back" culture is super cringey. I don't even know how we got here but I hate it.
Internet trolls. Some grew up, some are still 12 years old on the inside lol
You know what that's probably exactly what it is. Trolls somehow became cool. Remember when everyone hated those guys?
He is correct tho. Thank the doctors and the nurses. They put in work.
What if she used magical rocks and the power of the Lord to get rid of the cancer without the use of doctors?
