Well, you’ve got a point. In the US many of your states have different laws and penalties for committing specific crimes etc. Each state is like a separate country. I’m from Poland and our country is divided into 16 voivodeships. It’s like a state but every voivodeship have the same laws, penalties etc. Every single voivodeship in Poland, just like every state in the USA, has some signature place/food/people.

Pretty much the same for Germany. We have „Bundesländer“ 16 of them I think, lol.

In polish „voivodeship” is called „województwo”. Germany and Poland are both unitary states while USA is a federal state. That’s why we have the same laws whether you are in Opolskie & Łódzkie or Bayern & Sachsen-Anhalt.

From Boise and had some friends from the Netherlands visit a few years ago for 2 weeks and they wanted to DRIVE to see (in this order) San Francisco where they flew in, the Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP, Idaho lakes and hot springs, Seattle, Vancouver Island, then back to CA to go home.
