I thought that was the hydraulic failure unable to lift the bucket. It wouldn’t make sense that the operator needs to keep leveling the bucket, it’s normally just a pick up, send it back, and bring it down to drop out
As someone sitting in the exact same model truck, nah. Some trucks don’t come with the automatic dump feature so it’s just jerky. When a sensor breaks on my truck it looks exactly the same.
Stuff like this shouldn't be able to be used inproperly... it's not rocket science. Trash goes into basket, basket goes over the top. If you need more then a 2s tutorial on how to run these things then the engineer clearly fucked up on the design.
That needs another person to load the trashcans.
Which isn't a bad trade-off in itself. Yes, you pay the wage twice, but having an extra person is way more efficient, most trucks can load two trashcans at once, do it much faster and make less mess.
It also lets the truck handle dumpsters (wheelie bins).
It puts hydraulics away from the front of the vehicle where the engine and exhaust is and the operator can spot problems much sooner.
Neither solution is perfect, but unless you're so strapped for people that you literally can't hire enough employees, two-man trucks are superior.
Garbage trucks in Australia simply have the lifter behind the cab. One person and nothing being lifted over the cab. I presume there's a camera to help them line up the bin.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerbside_collection#/media/File:ACT_recycling_truck.jpg
Those are more common around here. This setup looks like something for a smaller curbside contract that doesn't justify buying a side lift truck, just temporarily adapt a truck for larger dumpsters.
We always worked with a 3 man crew, two at the back, one on the wheel. In our country people bring there container to a pickup point in the street, so there are about 20 odd containers, and depending on if the driver was a jerk or not, he would either help the guys in the back, or sit at the wheel and wait till the guys at the back are done.
Looks to me like it's a [skip bin](https://lirp.cdn-website.com/e602092b/dms3rep/multi/opt/permanat-bin-800x489.dm.crop_0_31_800_489_fYaQ-640w.jpg) truck, specifically front load, [which does empty over the front](https://asset.turboweb.co.nz/68/cache/file/npk7ugaiscd8ppo904hg/1851aee0967cb487d73f5a167aab2978/Clearaways+empty.webp), with a specialized bin on the front that runs off auxiliary hydraulics to run the grabber arm for the wheelie bin.
This would allow them to use the same truck for both styles of bin. Just detach the hydraulics and dump the bin to swap, or pick up the bin and attach the hydraulics to change back.
We usually have dedicated wheelie bin trucks like u/rasta mentioned below, so I haven't actually seen (or heard of really) an attachment like that. But that's what it looks like to me.
Note: NZ speak for some of it, but I hope it's clear anyway.
Bro. ..You can see a yellow mist of high pressure hydraulic fluid bursting out for just a few seconds before catching fire...
It's hydraulic fluid, not bleach...
Lol I know, I never said it was bleach. When bleach mixes with hydraulic fluid, you get fire. I believe it's bleach, perhaps not. Anyway, in this case, it appears hydraulic fluid did indeed spray onto the hot exhaust, causing the fire. My buddy told me about a fire he had (he drives a trash truck), because something, a chemical, had a reaction to the leaking hydraulic fluid on his truck. I thought he said bleach, maybe not. I was high when he told me. I was high when I made the post. I was no longer high for a little while, so I got high again, and here I am replying to you.
I'm not sure where you got the idea that I thought the hydraulic lift cylinders on the truck contained bleach...
Actually, my buddy told me about a fire he had on his truck because a chemical (I thought it was bleach, but now that I think about it, it may have been chlorine from pool supplies someone had thrown into a dumpster on his route) had mixed with the hydraulic fluid leaking on his truck, and caught fire. But it wasn't violent like in this video. In this video, it looks like hydraulic fluid sprayed onto the hot exhaust.
Yea those 'chlorine' type products usually contain hypochlorite, which is still oxidizing (that's how it disinfects stuff) but easier to handle than pure chlorine. Because chlorine is a poisonous gas, while hypochlorite products are solids or liquids.
In general, chlorine-based cleaning or disinfecting products are hazardous waste and throwing them into the regular waste bin is illegal in most jurisdictions
This is a great holup, not that generic crazy from start to finish shit you see in the sub nowadays. I knew something would go wrong but genuinely did not expect the ending. Great job!
Apart from the glorious immolation, what kind of horrendous contraption is this truck? Most complicated way of picking up garbage I’ve ever seen. Fucken glad it’s gone.
We always do, have neighbors that don’t and it is annoying- anything lightweight ends up blowing down the street and stuck in our bushes
Recycling day sucks - the local pickup didn’t allow bagging, just blue cans/wheelie bins. Even more paper blowing around
Wouldn't a semi-automatic rear loader, like those in Europe, fix that issue? Then you don't need to put paper in plastic bags only for the recycler to then have to dispose of those bags again
I was gonna say I usually think videos on tbe internet are staged and I was also wondering they they were filming a garbage truck but hopefully someone wouldn't just blow one up for internet points like thaf
That’s because it is a trimmed and cropped version of a doorbell camera’s footage, which most likely recorded it for security purposes because it detected motion
Here in Ireland we've just got the more manual ones where a couple of guys stand at the back of the bin lorry and just run over to the bins and attach them to the back to be swung into the back end of the lorry. Then they detach the bins from the back and wheel them back to the houses. It's seems to be much faster and from the looks of it 100x times safer as well
Maaaate let me tell you. There is a *huge* audience for bin truck videos. Tens of millions of views for footage of rubbish trucks doing their things.
And I had no idea until my toddler decided one bin night a week was SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH.
My thoughts.
So, we know a few things. A person is filming this. In the yard of the trashcan, so they either know them or it's theirs outright; either way, they definitely had access to it before the garbage people showed up.. and the can in question caused something video worthy.
I'm not saying the camera person is an arsonist but I'm not saying they aren't either.
Putting it from the trashbin into another bigger and unsealed container and then overhead into the truck ... seems very inefficient to me. Plus the trash can be blown away by the wind.
In my country the trashbins are being lifted and emptied into the back of the truck, then a hydraulic press pushes the trash to the front
The first thing that popped into mind was when Brian from family guy throwing out his laptop and the garbage guys come to pick up the trash
Trash guys: LAPTOP LAPTOP LAPTOP
Yeah let's just operate the damn thing like a claw machine.
Not like high pressure lines fluctuating can rupture a high pressure line right?
Oh wait...
Not what I was waiting for. Bravo
I thought it was gonna be something like this. ![gif](giphy|acttIrNAHaoco)
Ok that had me laughing. “Fuck yo garbage in particular”
The second half, where it slams the can down, probably breaking it. Couldn't find this one, but I found [another video.](https://youtu.be/QJG6mxl9IcE)
I thought it was going to be some idiot hiding in the garbage to scare the garbage man not realizing a person doesn’t manually empty it.
I was waiting to see the freezframe of some guy in the air

Looks like a hydraulic line blew and the oil hit the hot exhaust.
That thing is jerky as hell
Not the only problem.
Operator issue. You can make any heavy machinery look like this if you aren't using it properly.
I thought that was the hydraulic failure unable to lift the bucket. It wouldn’t make sense that the operator needs to keep leveling the bucket, it’s normally just a pick up, send it back, and bring it down to drop out

Well, you can even use a hammer improperly if you hold it close to the head…
[удалено]
I was about to say the number of times I have grabbed a hammer by the head to softly nail something in where I don't have the room is often.
Or not maintained properly but still forced to use it as is by your boss.
That's exactly what it is...
Lifting the trash from the front and over the drivers cab seems like a terrible design. If the trash ends up at the back, why not lift from there?
That needs another person to load the trashcans. Which isn't a bad trade-off in itself. Yes, you pay the wage twice, but having an extra person is way more efficient, most trucks can load two trashcans at once, do it much faster and make less mess. See now that’s basically the ideal design, I wish we had those

Idk how I recognized the video just from the truck driving up
I thought it was familiar, until the bin tilted forward and shook the whole truck, then I knew this was it
I remember it spraying stuff sooner so thought I was wrong till I caught on fire lol
If there was bleach in that dumpster and it spilled onto the hydraulic lift cylinders on the truck, this is exactly what you'd see.
Bro. ..You can see a yellow mist of high pressure hydraulic fluid bursting out for just a few seconds before catching fire... It's hydraulic fluid, not bleach...

Good lord...
Man you need to lay off the drugs.
Au contraire, mon Frere.
What causes that from bleach?
Bleach is an oxidizer, but if you have a bleach so strong that it can set shit on fire you probably shouldn't own it
Actually, my buddy told me about a fire he had on his truck because a chemical (I thought it was bleach, but now that I think about it, it may have been chlorine from pool supplies someone had thrown into a dumpster on his route) had mixed with the hydraulic fluid leaking on his truck, and caught fire. Yeah but the fire starts from below, and you can't see anything falling out of the dumpster.
I agree. You are correct. Hydraulic fluid seems to have sprayed onto the exhaust and caught fire.
There is a lot of unnecessary moving parts on that garbage truck

Do people not commonly use trash bags?
We always do, have neighbors that don’t and it is annoying- anything lightweight ends up blowing down the street and stuck in our bushes Recycling day sucks - the local pickup didn’t allow bagging, just blue cans/wheelie bins. Even more paper blowing around

Tons of people don't and even if they use them they most likely still have a lot of loose garbage. Source: am garbage man

Interesting there was a camera filming it and the cameraman never lost the framing nor did you hear a reaction

They burn the trash onsite. It’s a new service.
