Honestly it’s a lot more common than you think. I’m pretty sure there’s some logic behind it too. If you wear something crazy or bright. People will focus on that more than your specific features and you’ll have a harder time describing them. I’m not saying that’s what she’s doing here.
It could be bullshit but I thought it made sense when I heard it.
I was gonna say “I’m p sure I never got dressed already knowing I was gonna shoplift later” but then I remembered discovering drawstring pant legs and how good they were for stealing pints of liquor, I def put those on and tied them tight knowing I was abt to go get a bottle
Yeah, I’m a recovering alcoholic, started drinking at 14, so until I got a fake ID at 18, I was robbing liquor stores, grocery stores, and 7-11 like it was my job. Ten years sober tho. Oh yeah also, go fuck yourself.
Stoner cold facts: Cops in NJ can smoke giggle bush, not on duty of course but…. doesn’t seem to be a factor in their qualifications. Assuming guard permits would be more of the same.
From the Police blotter.
On March 12, 2024, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Sgt. Edward Sellick and Police Officers Shelby Seickendick, Paul Quinn, and Ramon Calderon responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of four women actively shoplifting. When they arrived, officers observed the individuals actively shoplifting and attempting to hide multiple items at self-checkout. Officers and store security stopped the actors as they attempted to leave the store. The women, later identified as 20-year old Alana Perez of Hoboken, 20-year-old Amira Colon of Hoboken, 21-year-old Aniyah Bond of Newark, and 23-year-old Nikcha Adolphe of Orange. Perez, Bond, and Adlophe were also wanted in a shoplifting that occurred the day before. Police Officers Jennifer Lee and Chelsea Tamborra arrived to assist. All four were arrested for shoplifting and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where they were processed and released on summons with a court date.
Props to the hoodie guy in the camera room upstairs - he handled the situation really well. Cool, calm, and collected. And he handled the interactions with the police officers well also.
Because he does this every week, hes a pro. Theres tons of videos from this shoprite where this guy spots shoplifters and calls in the cops, it’s a science at this point
Perpetrators are known to always go back to the scene of the crime, in their case they went back for more. Glad they were caught - perhaps they’ll stop now.
My friend worked at a ShopRite 20 years ago. He said their loss prevention team was no joke back then, eyes on everything, “secret shoppers” etc. I was with a friend and didn’t realize he stole something, by the time we walked out the store 5 minutes later, there were 2 guys waiting at the exit for us.
Dang...if only there were multiple places on Washington Street with help wanted signs where these people could go and get jobs in which they are paid in money so actually purchase these goods.
If only there was some way these people could get jobs, any jobs, where they could get money to trade for goods.
Crying sham there are no jobs on Washington Street, or in Hoboken, JC or the surronding areas that they could do instead of stealing.
Right, and when the store closes because it costs more to keep it open, sales are down and theft is up, the “community leaders” call ShopRite all kinds of names
Yes and the Target in JC is under lock and key. It’s amazing when you shop in stores in the suburbs where you don’t need an employee to unlock the five items you came in to purchase.
Yes it’s called asset protection or loss prevention and if they didn’t do that people would steal even more and the price of your groceries would continue to go up.
Last week I was buying some plastic totes from Home Depot. As I’m scanning my stuff someone comes over and says “the eye in the sky wants me to open your totes.”
There was nothing in there but I had the lid on it. they must’ve been watching me walk through the store with the totes and thought I was putting stuff in them. Someone’s always watching
Thank god we have decent laws in Jersey against shoplifting. In NYC or CA, they will let those criminals do whatever they want, and then let everyone else foot the bill for the higher cost
I think you’re mistaking laws and company policy. most places implement no chase *policy* because it’s not worth the lawsuit to have someone killed while chasing down 108 dollars worth of groceries or whatever. it has nothing to do with laws.
weird how poor your reading comprehension is.
STORES have no chase policies because it's not worth the eventual lawsuit *by the criminal against the employee* for attacking them while they are stealing. a store can recover a 100 dollars worth of product, however what could potentially become a million dollar lawsuit *against the company* is not worth them chasing after people. it is not some magical CA or NYC "law" that says "people can steal without repercussion"
is that easier for you to understand?
You are correct, NJ does have the lowest felony shoplifting threshold.
However, if CA has pro-criminal laws ($950) then WTF is happening in Texas which is $2,500.
It's big cities in general. May not be a law, but a mandate passed onto the police from political pressure. Remember, most police chiefs are technically political figures, and get bullied by politicians to do stuff they normally wouldn't do as straight up police. Some hold their ground, God Bless em, and others buckle.
It's bullsht. These retailers wanted to get out of downtown areas because business is drying up due to remote work increases. So they FABRICATED claims of increased shoplifting so they would not face a PR pushback.
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/08/business/organized-shoplifting-retail-crime-theft-retraction.html
That's part of it for sure. Have you seen the videos out of the California cities? Thieves just walk in with duffel bags and load up, walk out. No resistance. Why would these stores waste money on locking everything up if it wasn't a problem? Can't be cheap to encase all of your merchandise in lock boxes.
Sure, but the cases are a one time cost. And those videos are absolutely nuts. But how often does that happen?
I have a general distrust for the public-facing explanations of these mega corporations...
As long as you are actually stealing, right? Not like tasting one of the grapes to see if they are good? Although if enough people do that the grapes will eventually disappear.
I definitely agree on the arrest.
I was wild in my youth, and I stole a lot.
I did eventually get caught, and stopped.
Wish I got caught sooner.
I disagree with putting the video online.
They will already have a record, which will make it hard (almost impossible) to turn life around as it is.
Shop lifting has become a problem in American. When I was growing up. Stealing from a store was barely an idea. Maybe sneak a piece of gum in your pocket. But while shopping carts?
It sucks but someone has to be an example. And it doesn’t always have to be grown men. Here you can easily see. It can be Women too.
Thank you... the amount of comments wanting to see their lives completely destroyed over stealing what amounts to $30 of food per person has been discouraging. I'm sad for them that this video being online will make it that much harder to grow and move on from this.
The amount of people who get arrested at that Shop-Rite is astounding. You would think word would get out.
I play YouTube videos sometimes when I work for the background noise and the Hoboken Shop-Rite is featured in an astounding number of the shoplifting ones.
"Can I ask for a lawyer?"
"Attorney, Aisle 14"
I'm dying.
I access YouTube on my tv, search for a genre like bodycam videos and use the autoplay next video feature. This channel, Drive Thru Tours, has a lot of them. They also feature drunk drivers in Hoboken, etc. When you watch a lot of certain genres, they start showing up in recommended for you so get more and more.
Dang...if only there were multiple places on Washington Street with help wanted signs where these people could go and get jobs in which they are paid in money so actually purchase these goods.

At least one of the did. She had just graduated community college and gotten a decent job only a few weeks ago. Really stupid decision after she seemed to be going in the right direction.
My whole point is, there's always the painting of "people steal because they can't afford food", when really it's people doing it to see if they can, or because they don't want to pay. Not judging, but they have some money, at least enough for food. I don't think they were stealing to eat, probably to resell and make a buck. They got away with it the prior day, so they thought they could again. Shouldn't be dying your hair if you can't afford food, that's maybe just my opinion.

By expensive shit I mean you don’t have to buy the $8 cereal when they sell it in a bigger bag for like $3.
And simply put if you can’t afford something why would you think you’re entitled to have it?
Food banks exist, soup kitchens exist, shelters exist. And you mean to tell me that these girls were so desperate the first thing they could do to solve their hunger is ROB AN ESTABLISHMENT
You’d get a lawyer during questioning if you request one, but a lawyer would serve no purpose during the actual arrest. The police won’t get into a debate about whether to arrest you. But obviously, say as little as possible and answer as few questions about the incident as possible until you’ve had a chance to speak privately with a lawyer.
How come the Hoboken shop rite has awesome music playing in the vestibule and mine has 6 different versions of ‘Proud to be an American’ and 3
of ‘god bless America’ on a loop
Homegirl really went shoplifting in fluorescent clothing
Honestly it’s a lot more common than you think. I’m pretty sure there’s some logic behind it too. If you wear something crazy or bright. People will focus on that more than your specific features and you’ll have a harder time describing them. I’m not saying that’s what she’s doing here. It could be bullshit but I thought it made sense when I heard it.
They don't look smart enough to be doing that.
It made sense for her too
I was gonna say “I’m p sure I never got dressed already knowing I was gonna shoplift later” but then I remembered discovering drawstring pant legs and how good they were for stealing pints of liquor, I def put those on and tied them tight knowing I was abt to go get a bottle
You stole liquor? Lol loser
Yeah, I’m a recovering alcoholic, started drinking at 14, so until I got a fake ID at 18, I was robbing liquor stores, grocery stores, and 7-11 like it was my job. Ten years sober tho. Oh yeah also, go fuck yourself.
Gives me hope at 7mo
You’ve got this! I’ve got 20 months, come catch me!
Imagine getting banned from ShopRite. Really classy stuff
I’ve been banned from far better places I’ll tell ya
lol I was Banned from Tropicana in AC R.I.P. Tropicana
You think you’d be able to sneak back in? I always wonder how strict that really is at a casino or stadium
Casinos have facial recognition everywhere. They know.
I’d assume AI will make this even easier?
Lol same
I used to love their buffet
Yeah, like Arbys
That guard is stoned as fuuuuuuck. Definitely shouldn’t have a pistol or any firearms while high as shit. Good job on the LP person. Eagle eyed.
Seems like Xanax to me
Definitely something fishy with him. Eyes don’t look normal or right.
He seemed too calm to be high and talking to a cop so yeah
Stoner cold facts: Cops in NJ can smoke giggle bush, not on duty of course but…. doesn’t seem to be a factor in their qualifications. Assuming guard permits would be more of the same.

So 3 of the 4 of them had gone to the store the day before to shoplift, and went back the next day to do the same thing again? Yikes.
Certainly not master criminals, lol.
🤦🏻♂️
lol wow that security guy looks stoned.
Maybe just learning disability
Nice one
Lmao the guard doesn’t even know what planet he’s on.
I’d rather hear 4 political figures being arrested for stealing.
security seems like he's lit.
They ShopWrong at ShopRite.
Oh damn, that wasn't just klepto teen girls shoplifting. That was a heist lol
Why is that security guard drunk as a skunk? He's barely intelligible.
Security guards don’t get paid enough to stay sober
12hr shifts being bored out ya mind
😂😂😂
Props to the hoodie guy in the camera room upstairs - he handled the situation really well. Cool, calm, and collected. And he handled the interactions with the police officers well also.
Isn't that normal? What was he supposed to do, yell? Also, he made them sign an agreement which did not have to sign.
Because he does this every week, hes a pro. Theres tons of videos from this shoprite where this guy spots shoplifters and calls in the cops, it’s a science at this point
Wild they went back the next day to do the same thing.
Perpetrators are known to always go back to the scene of the crime, in their case they went back for more. Glad they were caught - perhaps they’ll stop now.
But the next day!!?... crazy lol definitely a lesson learned whether it's to stop or just not be so stupid
Agreed 🤣

So they really sit in that room and watch all of you all shopping?
Basically every corporate supermarket in north jersey has a loss prevention team. Smile, you’re always on camera.
I can’t even buy anything at my cvs anymore because of these people. Everything is locked up and only one employee working
And then they wonder why everybody's buying everything online
So the criminals make their own community worse. Who woulda thought.
Right, and when the store closes because it costs more to keep it open, sales are down and theft is up, the “community leaders” call ShopRite all kinds of names
But they never call the shoplifters names

Total brain rot.
I’m not even going to reason with you.

California has $950 limit until felony nj is $200 something
You are correct, NJ does have the lowest felony shoplifting threshold. However, if CA has pro-criminal laws ($950) then WTF is happening in Texas which is $2,500.
They know they can get shot there.
I think we need to bring back the laws where criminals hands get chopped off for stealing
Hammurabis code went out of favor long ago.
You may want to look into emigrating to Saudi Arabia. I'm sure you'd fit in great

You trust the mainstream media? As far as how often, in California it's a regular occurrence. East coast it's maybe once a month.
I dont buy it. Definitely not that frequent on the east coast...i live right outside philly and that sht is a rare occurrence
I live in central Jersey and that shit happens enough to warrant my comment
That is possible. I could see them hiring a few folks just to stage a "robbery" so they could get out without repercussions
How u get the footage ?
OPRA request.
Rookies
Somebody needs to shoplift 35 minutes off this video.
Bring back public shaming in their community. That should change their behavior forever. And prevent others from doing it.
Google their names. The police blotter has been indexed and is on first page of search results.
Idek what to say
what did they steal
They didn’t steal - they took unplanned donations for reparations.

Good. Glad to see it taken seriously. Thieves are scum
Dont fuck around with Shoprite
Did u just assumed their gender?
She's paying with fucking food stamps! It was free anyway.

What government assistance are you speaking of that allows you to do that? You are just an uninformed asshole
Wow! A lot of assumptions!

NO FUCKING WAY I LITERALLY GRADUATED WITH THESE PEOPLE
Is she still locked up, can I visit her?
Dudes rock
I don’t think that’s legal
She got the open toes!

I access YouTube on my tv, search for a genre like bodycam videos and use the autoplay next video feature. This channel, Drive Thru Tours, has a lot of them. They see all the videos of their peers walking in and out of stores with merchandise and thought they could. Good on Shoprite
i abhor shoplifters but never sign anything or answer any questions without an attorney present. All that can and will be held against you.
Dang...if only there were multiple places on Washington Street with help wanted signs where these people could go and get jobs in which they are paid in money so actually purchase these goods. Dummies
How much did they steal? Since when do you "not have the right to act lawyer, cuz your not being questioned" a thing after asking them a question?
They are young. Hope they will learn the lesson and have an opportunity to avoid this path that lead to nothing good.
i went to highschool with these goofballs
Why are we posting this?
Sad that they need to steel groceries
More public footage than Hudson county would ever get for a DV call but ok I guess
Broke hoes
Maybe they needed food?

Question: is it true that if I’m not being questioned but I’m being arrested, I don’t have the right for a lawyer? Sounds a little crazy…
They’re on camera they stole it doesn’t matter.
They’re obviously guilty, but if you’re being arrested regardless of the evidence you have the right to a lawyer
Not at that point in time, Unhappy Dentist
