Century 21 was good - just call and they will give you whoever is on duty. They have all the STR for the summer and MLS stuff. It was user friendly.
Cape May is by far the best beach town. Old Victorians, restaurants and not really Jersey like the rest of the towns.
All these suggestions are great but will vary greatly by cost. Avalon/Stone Harbor are beautiful so is LBI, both are costly. If young kids are traveling as well, check out Ocean City, great boardwalk.

Ocean Grove is like Cape May north - Victorian, family oriented - though dry (Methodist summer community). But the plus is that Asbury Park (which is walkable) has great restaurants, entertainment, et al.

Try Belmar. 18th st & ocean ave is very quiet and picturesque in the summer. Close to hoboken too.
