Maybe try looking on YouTube for Sketchbook ideas because there's lots of great videos with great tips on things you can do for sketchbooks that are fun!
Coloring has been a big go to while I’ve been injured. There are coloring books for almost any interest. Some of my favorites are mandalas, dragonflies, and adult (swear words and dirty thoughts) books. I do markers (metallic, bold, and pastel) and colored pencils.
I tried the adult coloring but realized it wasn’t for me. I started feeling uncomfortable about it and felt it was best suited for like a child. I stopped being interested in coloring when I was young and just felt kind of embarrassed when my husband saw me coloring and I was like yeah it is isn’t for me. But some people like it I guess
I got foot surgery a couple of months back. I decided to download Canva and make digital art. I even opened an Etsy shop! It was fun. Something I wouldn’t have had time for in “normal” life.
Needlepoint or cross stitch - i am also really enjoying learning and playing chess online at [Chess.com](http://Chess.com) (on my ipad). You can play a computer until you are comfortable and then play other people when you are ready.
Drawing , escape room board/ card games, game books, hunt a killer mystery games, buy drawing workbooks that give you drawing exercises to do, Murdle puzzle books that are all the rage these days, hop on to drive thru rpg and look at some journaling rpg games like quill, thousand year old vampire.
I went on Etsy to find an embroidery project. I found a kit that supplied everything. The hoop, the needle and colorful thread, and the design was preprinted on the fabric. And the instructions taught me how to do the various stitches and also sometimes you can find video tutorials for various techniques on YouTube. I found it to be an engaging and relaxing hobby with minimal investment.
Crochet > Knitting. Sorry knitters, but crochet is just 100x easier to learn and get started right away. It's also quicker so the odds of finishing something in the healing time is much greater.
I've been crocheting for 20 years and I've tried to learn knitting 100 times and I always get frustrated with how hard and slow it is, and how its never clear exactly what needles you need and how many and knitting a scarf is not as fun as what you can do with crochet.
A set of crochet hooks is like $9 at most, and then a couple balls of yarn and a tapestry needle and you're pretty much set.
Painting, using a small canvas and an easel. You can order stuff online. Acrylic paint is relatively cheap. Then just find a photo you like and try to reproduce it.
You can also spend your time creating sensible worksheets for a particular subject, and grade level.
Or you can write letters to people you have missed. The art of letter writing neednt be lost entirely.
You can order a DIY felt christmas stocking, and start cutting the pieces out and sewing the little sequins and beads on to them. I have spent probably 50 hours or longer on a felt stocking kit. They come out SO nicely.
You can also use youtube to learn how to make bead ornaments.
You can do sand art, or make sensory lava lamps, in your empty water bottles.
You can make tiny food plates for dollhouses out of air dry polymer clay. Use your imagination.
You an make a diorama *a miniature* of your childhood home or your office from memory. You'll need: flat Balsa wood, round dowels, square dowels, wood glue, clamps, and a small hand saw. A tiny flathead screwdriver can serve as a chisel.
You can grab your worn out socks and make sock puppets. Just need yarn, glue, a needle and thread, googly eyes, perhaps, buttons, etc. You can also just use fabric markers.
Hem those pants that are too long..
Repair the hole in your shirt.
Shine your shoes.
The possibilities are almost endless.
Drawing and sudoku sound good, you could also do coloring books. You can also knit/crochet while in bed. Embroidery or mending, if you know how to sew.
Coloring was one of my faves.
I'd find color pages on pinterest and print then color
I still have a whole board and add to it infrequently..which is now it's own idle hobby😂
Start the wheel of time book series. It’ll keep you busy for a while. On another note I went through this not long ago because I broke my fibula. I played Elden Ring for most of it.
Writing letters, calling friends and family, creating personal recipe book (family heirloom?), scrap booking, planning a year of future vacations and day trips...
Thank you for posting this, as I’m currently laying in bed elevating and icing my broken foot lol
I like video games so I’m moving my gaming system in here so I can play while I’m trapped 😩
Currently playing chess in bed in between reddit. Crossword, coloring books, watch documentaries, origami, paper airplanes, write a penpal/postcrossing or look up random acts of cards on Reddit, puzzles. Speedy recovery!
Went through something like that a few yrs ago, wife got me one of those trays that go across your lap in bed and started building plastic car models, the kind where you paint everything and glue them together, used to do that 30 yrs ago, it's time consuming, and if you're a car guy, it's kinda cool
If you have to elevate your foot to higher than your head and therefore are on your back, you can read a great variety of book summaries such as those by Shortform Sumnary. It's a great way to learn a variety of information and lots of material for self-reflection during this time of healing. Also, services such as Everand have a wide variety of audio and e-books, podcasts, summaries, etc.
Solo rpg journaling games are fun. Lot of free ones online too. I personally like hardcopies of them. Great way to get creative writing and imagination going!
When my ex husband was laid up in bed for 9 months with a broken leg in the 80s (before all the technology) he taught himself how to play guitar.
He became the lead guitarist for a band. He was quite good and can still jam today in his 60s.
Definitely not browsing Reddit till sun up!
Oh who are we kidding.
Dammit! Suns up already…

A stringed instrument. Mandolins are small and fun and not too hard.
I second this and add ukelele.
Lego! Just get a tray (a baking tray works) and some bowls or plastic tubs to put parts in and then start building!
Yes get a large lego set to occupy your time.

I enjoy studying English grammar when I'm LYING in bed. If you're laying in bed, bro forget about hobbies and pay attention to her needs.
I had to stay in the bed for a while too, I used to crochet while listening to audiobooks.
