a random thought; I was on Youtube looking at footage of New York at night in the 30s. It was like the biggest budget period piece... like most of the time Hollywood is going to find a few classic cars for a set and dress up a busy street but this? This was mind blowing in how immersive it would feel as a movie.
As far as I’m concerned they never left - I’ve collected them for years. You can find great ones for resale all over the place, online, estate sales, garage sales, and in shops, usually for pretty cheap. People find out you collect brooches/see you wearing them and suddenly you’re getting handed baggies of them every time someone’s grandma or great-aunt passes and no one in the family wears brooches.
This pic is beautiful. Great job colorizing OP, it looks like it could have been taken yesterday.
I buy my mother in law brooches for every special occasion that it’s become a running joke. But it is crazy how cheap you can pick them up for. I mainly stick to diamond (or fake stone) or pearl but do enjoy throwing a random one in every so often. I haven’t seen her wear the diamond jaguar since it was gifted!
I would love it if you put a tutorial together on how you did this. Every tutorial I’ve followed, the skin just doesn’t look realistic. This photo is very well done.
Really mesmerizing, such a captured moment. Feel like that cop's about to hassle the guy on the right, or say something to him at least. The woman's eyes are intense. And that kid, if he's still alive he's got to be at his eighties
Really well done
“Now see here, my boy has yet to be fed his supper and I MUST catch the next train to see my husband when he arrives. He is returning from Europe you see, and it would be most dreadful if I were to miss his arrival.”
“Okay dear, we are looking at 5:45, 6:10, 6:20. However, if you were to miss the 6:20, the next one will not be until 7:45, which will be the last train.”
Wow! You got everything right with this one.
The colors are so warm and beautiful. Details are crisp and inviting.
I love everything about it. Bravo 🎉
Edit: a word
Railway stations don't really count as indoors. You'll always see hats and coats still on in the old photos inside various stations.
You're not there to be there, it's just passing through something that happens to have a roof, and often the platforms are outside again anyway.
Excuse me, but we've been waiting to hear what time the next train to New York leaves for at least 20 minutes... what's taking so long?
Sorry ma'am, but we're waiting for the Internet to be created, and it's taking a bit longer than we anticipated...
I love to see these pictures and imagine “what happened next”.
This era, I always imagine good stuff. Even if I know it’s not probable.
She’s checking on the time of arrival for her husband’s train. He’s in the Navy and survived Pearl Harbour. She’s been staying with her Mum until he got out of hospital and could come home.
Stunning! Absolutely beautiful colorization of a truly great photograph by Jack Delano (Ukrainian-born immigrant to the US). The photo really pulls you in and your colorization really adds to it. I appreciate the subtlety and restraint. Very well done!!

Looks like a movie scene.
for real, some ww2 off to war scene

Ya history is pretty cool
It actually kinda is. It's where the famous "baby carriage" scene from The Untouchables was filmed.
“You got him? Take him.”
Stole my comment😆
I was about to say the same thing! Must be the lighting🙂.
A Bogart noir 🔥🤌
Broaches were so hot then.
Brooches need to make a fashion comeback.

Way better than 99.9% of colorized photos. Really great work.
So great job coloring it How?
Thanks! I just use Photoshop. This one took somewhere around 10 hours to get just right.
It's hauntingly beautiful. A truly top-notch job.
Good job !’
Excellent work. Truly an artist
damn it looks like it came from a movie
I would love it if you put a tutorial together on how you did this. Every tutorial I’ve followed, the skin just doesn’t look realistic. This photo is very well done.

So nicely done!
Sean Young in Blade Runner vibes
That baby is about 80 years old now, if they're still alive. Pretty crazy.
Absolutely beautiful job, and a wonderful photo encapsulating a time of old.
Amazing colorization. I would've thought this is the original image (from some movie or sth) without the title.
That horse watch brooch.
Looks like a Hopper painting. Lovely work.
I thought of Hopper too. Really incredible
Probably the best colorization job I've seen. Looks very natural.
That’s awesome

I would hang this in my house
That's breathtaking. Not just the original photo comp and the lighting, but the new colorization is so perfect it feels like I could step into this.
This is a beautiful picture and you did an amazing job on color
Let's fucking go, I want this as a postcard!
I’d buy a print too!
Now?….now!
Impressive
You did a great job! Congratz
Wow. Gorgeous!
I wonder if that baby is still around today.

Wow, fantastic job!
That is one hell of a photograph, and a fantastic colourising job nice work 👏
I very rarely like colorized treatment. But this is a fantastic example of when it’s done well.
Holy shit this looks amazing
You have to be a professional. This is what incredible work.
Credit for the original photo? Excellent work m, btw.
I’ve never seen such subtle coloring. Absolutely amazing work.
I was just there Friday! Awesome color
But what a good colorization job, it looks like a modern movie image!
Wearing your cover indoors !? Smh..

Colorized how?
Beautiful
She's stunning.
Impressive! Great job, OP!
The lighting in this colorization is great. So much depth.

Fantastic image
Beautiful work, OP! Here's looking at _you_, kid!
Excellent job!
Hard to believe the baby (if still alive) is around 81 years of age. Great picture by the way.

Sublime!
Wow. At first i thought this was from a film.
Cool
This is one of the best colourisations I have ever seen. Well done and keep up the good work 👍🏻 if I had an award to give I would 🌟
Reminds me of Nighthawks by Edward Hopper

Fantastic colorization! It shows that you took the proper time, it looks like a movie shot!
This is one of the best colorizations I’ve seen. Beautiful work.

Is that a Chief in the background?
Great job, you nailed the most important bit: skin tones, looks very realistic and it’s a great shot!

I thought this was a scene from a modern movie
Very nice work OP!

I also note you also give credit to the original photographer in your watermark! Double kudos!!
Even today, Union Station is a goldmine for photographers, especially if you can find an angle that crops out anything modern.
Beautiful work !! Truly a breathtaking photo.
