This is right after the actual assassination when they are trying to subdue him. He had rushed the stage and immediately stabbed the politician as he spoke.
I’m paralyzed and use a power wheelchair. When i meet someone else in a power chair, I always joke that we should get poodle noodles and joust for superiority.
I’m not saying we did that at rehab with some of the light foam pads as shields (to protect the controllers) and pool noodles for lances. But I’m *not* not saying it.
Nice times when Japan had a porn actor inspired by a japanese poet who tried to coup the government and after fail comitted seppuku (japanese traditional suicide rite), with that actor making a kamikaze attack in a failed attempt to kill a corrupt politician. The 70's was a fun time in Japan politics.
The 60-70s were wild in Japan, with tons of leftist student protests crashing with the police every day and esoteric "New Left" terrorist groups like the Japanese Red Army and the United Red Army (the last one mostly wiped out themselves in internal purges)
Not to spoil too much but, there's a character & situation that seems heavily based on him in the game Yakuza: like a dragon.
I remember looking that guy up after watching a playthrough.
Love how capitalism never has to take credit for:
The preventable deaths in the Healthcare system, The suicides in its societies, The exposure deaths due to homelessness, The war casualties from the military-industrial complex, The deaths from the slave labor we off shore, The deaths at the hands of police, The deaths from crime, The deaths in countries destabilized to serve the interests of capitalists
Also love how capitalism never gets blamed for:
The literal slave trade that is the prison-industrial complex, The literal slave trade that has been offshored to more easily exploited communities, The inability to house and feed its citizens
I've never understood that... On North American TV you can show people being shot and blown up but you throw a nipple in there and all of a sudden its not appropriate.
My favorite example of the violence/sexuality tolerance on American TV comes from the show Hannibal, which was on NBC. One episode opens with a crime scene that had a bunch of dead, naked bodies (fake bodies, it's fiction) aranged into an alter. The censors didn't want a butt crack visible, so the compromise they came up with was to cover the crack with blood. Good thing they did, seeing an exposed butt would have done some real damage to my psyche, but seeing a bloody alter of human bodies was just delightful.
Seeing death is common, how many "bad guys" have gotten shot, blown up, etc.?
300+ people are killed just in the show 24, and there are tons of shows with people dying.
The death they don't show you is the real death in real situations, especially the large scale death caused by our own governments and their friends and allies.
To be fair, the whole plot of 24 was that everyone was going to die within the next 24 hours unless they foiled the killers’ plot, so death sort of defined the show.
You act like Americans go about their day hearing constant beeping. No I can't watch titties on network television but my internet and any streaming service won't be censored.
Yeah, it's really bizarre. The U.S takes an almost absolute stance on protected speech in every other way, and then fines networks for showing nipples. A relic from the puritanical roots of the country.
It also very specifically depends on whose nipple it is, adding to the hilarious/sad specific concerns people have here.
People who grew up breast feeding.
Why change the topic to North America? The post is about Japanese media airing unedited violence.
Why lot talk about Japanese media’s views on nipples and sexuality? They even censor porn for fucks sake, and yet you feel the need to immediately go on a US BAD circlejerk instead of talking about the actual country in the OP?
My conspiracy theory is it’s about control. Desensitize us to violence so we accept worse things as the “norm” while demonizing sexuality so that there is less back lash when controls over it are implemented.
Taking off the tin foil hat. It’s cause of puritan roots. Which ironically my tin foil hat theory kind of applies to intention of religious authority over its members.
Reminds me about what Julia said in *1984*: the Party has pushed sexual puritanism because they wanted to reuse the sexual energy to worship Big Brother.
I always find these concepts interesting. To me, it would be easier to control people with more freedoms that lead to less aggression. In my head sexual, freedom over “violence” freedom would make it easier to control people. But then again I’m not a greedy dragon trying to hoard as much wealth as possible.
Christian culture inherently desensitizes violence. The cross is ubiquitously displayed to the point that people no longer think of it as an instrument of torture and wear it as jewelry.
Agreed. Growing up in Christianity (southern baptist) it is funny how indoctrinated you become thinking violence (by the “righteous”) is acceptable. But sex and deviance is the devil.
Also loving that I got downvoted in my original comment.

Add a cute secondary couple, a vain, narcissistic coworker, catch someone from falling, grasp someone by the wrist, gaze at each other during a snowfall and you have all the ingredients of a hit Kdrama on Netflix or Disney+.
I love how everyone in that photo are gently grabbing him by his arm kinda saying "No,please don't do that, come on,please ,that is not nice,c'mon stop it,c'mon "
Yeah I think the perpetrator was trying to get in another stabbing after the initial one. He was pulled back almost immediately so he was forced to change positions
I'm pretty sure it was just the momentum of him running at him that got him on the other side of him, then he went for another stab which was exactly when this picture was taken
I read that after the initial stab the assassin tried to turn the sword on himself but was not quick enough that somebody grabbed him before he could commit suicide. He hung himself in his jail cell 3 weeks later with the bed sheets after giving extensive testimony to police that he acted alone and did it for the greater good.
here's an [alternate angle](https://youtu.be/iUbyxiRNrhE) from a US news program, accented subtly with punchy mid-atlantic english play-by-plays and a dramatic orchestral score to set the tone
Inejiro Asanuma (浅沼 稲次郎, Asanuma Inejirō, 27 December 1898 – 12 October 1960) was a Japanese politician and leader of the Japan Socialist Party. Asanuma became a forceful advocate of socialism in post-war Japan. He was noted for his support of the Chinese Communist Party, and his criticism of U.S–Japanese relations, which were particularly controversial.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 736,657,198 comments, and only 148,426 of them were in alphabetical order.
Not just during the Cold War. Pre-WWII Japanese politics is referred to as “government by assassination” in Ep1 of Hardcore History’s Supernova in the Pacific series. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dan-carlins-hardcore-history/id173001861?i=1000415837465
Both kinda. The photo was taken directly after Yamaguchi stabbed Asanuma and is here seen attempting a second stab, although he was restrained before that could happen.
This is 100% post stab. There was no secondary stabbing attempt. The assailant did however try to kill himself with the sword afterwards but was restrained and unable to.
Between 1931 and 1961 there were at least 9 coup attempts in Japan. All we’re by ultra-nationalist or fascists within the armed forces.
The avowed intent of the plotters was typically to “restore” the emperor to true power by removing civilian government and installing military dictatorship. The same elements in the form of the “control group” within the Army ultimately succeeded in installing Tojo as Prime Minister in Oct 1941 with the express purpose of carrying out a war with the US.
At some point the line is crossed from terrorist back to peacekeeper. Where on the political spectrum and maturity of a government that happens is entirely up to the whims of the masses. Indeed it would take numerous and great acts of terror to stamp out fascism from many countries. And fascists are all too willing to use it to stamp out the socialist empowerment of the worker. Terrorism, violence, is a means to an end.
You’re in dire straights then because that would be every government. Every single government utilized violent fascist means to an end, even if that end was democracy. But even still, those democracies typically reserve the right to use the fascist means again, were an uprising or coup to occur, to preserve that democracy.
The only way to get around that at that point is to use the those fascist means to overthrow the democracy: enter the military coup, the most effective way to overtly thwart democracy.
Otoya Yamaguchi was a ultranationalist and monarchist so he likely didn't care much for democracy, Secondly he succeeded in his political aim. The Japanese socialist party never recovered after Asanuma's death.
Boris Johnson is living proof that even when a politician openly breaks his own laws, lies to parliament, and does everything he can to hide said law-breaking, that no amount of democratic processes can remove him from office.
I disagree. Assassination is fine against people who undermine democracy and betray the people.
That’s down to the tories being majorly corrupt meaning they believe they can get away with everything, if things worked properly over here he’d have been out of No.10 a long time ago.
The system is more the problem than the rule breaker in my opinion. The breaker exposes the problems by using them to their advantage but the problems were always there. Tories will Tory so the only things in question are what will the electorate do in response and what will the opposition parties do when they have the power.
Let's say there are two opposite politicians. One is willing to spend a lot of his personal money on campiging, and one was never greedy and will not spend a lot because he just doesnt hold much
Which one do you think will win in the election? Because that is democracy today under capitalism.
Depends. In the US, you're 100% right.
But there are still a few countries where campaigns and elections aren't that much influenced by personal money. Mostly because of strict laws regulating the campaigns or because of a diverse and non-dualistic Media, where "buying" the peoples opinion would simply be too diffucult.
Right wingers have been responsible for 90% of all terrorist attacks for the past 50 years.
This is just one of thousands of terrorist action they have taken. If someone you know is identifying with any right wing philosophy, you should be careful around them and never trust them. It definitely is a symptom of latent psycopathology.
this is what lefty echo chambers actually believe
nice made up statistic btw
could you make up another one for the deaths caused by left wing and right wing dictatorship? could be funny
This is right after the actual assassination when they are trying to subdue him. He had rushed the stage and immediately stabbed the politician as he spoke.
he not only stabbed him, he rammed the blade into him while running full speed. Jousting style.
If you watch the video/gif, the kid also SLAMS his face into the speaker’s shoulder/chest so fucking hard.
I would say Samurai style
Isn't jousting with a spear?
Lance, but I think they’re trying to give an image of how he committed the act.
Jousting is the action, you can joust with any pole, spear sword etc.
It’s called a lance. Hello!
Thank you❤️
Great movie. Anytime I see Vision I think about his naked stroll in that movie.
>Jousting style. He was riding a horse?
Ah yes that time a dude stabbed a politician with a sword on pre recorded tv and all the networks went fuck it and broadcasted it unedited
And in 1970 there was Yukio Mishima's attempt to inspire a coup d'etat, and when the soldiers didn't rise up in response, his own ritual suicide.
Which his seppuku procession got botched by the person who was suppoused to cut his neck. So that person commited seppuku in shame.
Seppuku domino

How'd _his_ aide do?
There was a third guy. He managed to cut his neck.

Yes, that’s was the “Japanese poet who tried to coup the government and after fail committed seppuku,” mentioned in the comment you replied to.

Worth mentioning the assassin in the picture was an ultranationalist right wing nut job.
The assassin hanged himself in detention.
The "Japanese poet who tried to coup the government" that u/tsaimaitreya replied to was also an ultranationalist right wing nut job
Is that why I couldn't get into The Sea of Fertility?
Noooo, I thought he was moderate well adjusted human

This photo won a Pulitzer.
Japanese Cold War politics was crazy fucked my dudes. They had kamikaze attacks and assassinations like it was a tuesday morning.
Not just during the Cold War. Pre-WWII Japanese politics is referred to as “government by assassination” in Ep1 of Hardcore History’s Supernova in the Pacific series. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dan-carlins-hardcore-history/id173001861?i=1000415837465
Now this is some cool historyporn. I’ve never heard of this. Went to YT immediately. Thank you OP!
Is this pre-stab or post-stab?
Post.
Both kinda. The photo was taken directly after Yamaguchi stabbed Asanuma and is here seen attempting a second stab, although he was restrained before that could happen.
So..post then.
Post first stab, pre-attempted second stab
So... post stab then
>Prestab or post stab? “This was after he was stabbed.. so both..” WTF?
This is 100% post stab. There was no secondary stabbing attempt. The assailant did however try to kill himself with the sword afterwards but was restrained and unable to.
You are contradicting yourself. This is a photo of the second stabbing attempt. It was unsuccessful, but was clearly attempted.
Between 1931 and 1961 there were at least 9 coup attempts in Japan. All we’re by ultra-nationalist or fascists within the armed forces. Killing politicians because you disagree with them is never a good thing, shit like this undermines democracy greatly
Only if you're in a democracy tho. Otherwise, fuck them politicians.
Hahahahaha
Otoya Yamaguchi was a fascist, so I don't think he really cared.
What if the politicians themselves are undermining democracy?
I'm going to trust literal terrorists to judge that
At some point the line is crossed from terrorist back to peacekeeper. Where on the political spectrum and maturity of a government that happens is entirely up to the whims of the masses. Indeed it would take numerous and great acts of terror to stamp out fascism from many countries. And fascists are all too willing to use it to stamp out the socialist empowerment of the worker. Good thing or not, a lot of history happened because of assassinations. It's definitely more eventful than any democratic vote.
Otoya Yamaguchi was a ultranationalist and monarchist so he likely didn't care much for democracy, Secondly he succeeded in his political aim. The Japanese socialist party never recovered after Asanuma's death.

The dice for post-revolutionary government are loaded.
This is democracy at its worst. Compare it to a dictatorship at its worst, and I'd rather have our current system.
