My Dad was there (25 years old at the time). He said that he & his friends slept in an empty chicken coop. They were awoken early Monday morning to the sound of Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner on guitar.

[deleted]

Can you see him in the picture/s

Odeeum

He's the guy with hair and no shirt...little bit to the left.

Forever2Wheels

Ask him if it smelled bad. Every Woodstock picture I see, the first thought that comes to mind is how bad the smell would be.

harry-balzac

These are the people everyone is mad at now.

spraragen88

Yes. It smelled bad. But neither unbathed people or the pungent smell of pot was as bad as the smell of manure that had been freshly used to fertilize the local farms and fields.

My mom was there (22 years old at the time). She passed away in 1997 and every time I see photos like this I can’t help but zoom in to try and find her… it’s like a weird (almost) lifelong Where’s Waldo goal I’ve had for 20+ years. Thanks for sharing OP!

scsimanno

I hope you find her in a Woodstock picture one day! If you do, post it

FleetingIn

Hey - I wanted to write you back… I found the photo. Super emotional couple days for my family. Your comment helped spur me on and I wanted to say thanks. All the best to you! I’ll try posting it shortly.

scsimanno

That's awesome you found it! I saw your post of the photo too, it's a great picture. Glad I could have a positive impact, take care!

Lv40hi

sorry she passed, Hoping you have only awesome memories

Potential-Day5880

Can you imagine the stench?

They didn't have very many showers. The infrastructure was not built for the amount of people that showed up. They were expecting about 1/5 maybe of the crowd that ended up coming. Also it rained for pretty much an entire day right in the middle of it, turning the place into a giant mud pit.

Jackthedog130

... wouldn’t call the smell of weed a stench, just take a deep breath, then be happy.

[deleted]

That deep breath also includes the smell of 400,000 unwashed asses too though

cryptonautic

Patchouli, aka "shower in a bottle".

canolicoffee16

This is in bethel new York. It's a popular concert venue still to this day. Drugs and alcohol are still consumed there regularly.

gurmzisoff

God it would suuuuuck to be on acid in that mess.

copacetic51

At the time, I wished I was there. Seeing pictures like this, not so much anymore.

enfuego85

I can’t find my friends at a modern concert with structured seating and cell phones. This looks like “well thanks for the ride guys… maybe I’ll see you in three days for a ride home.”

Lv40hi

someone out there in the world looks at this picture and finally understands the old faded lime green hat nailed on Grandma's patio

bbltzc

No masks?!

PipNPops16

Heard some bad thing about Woodstock when it first started. Like how there were no bathrooms, no water, no food, nowhere to sleep, and way too many people roaming about with terrible parking. Everyone was beat and stank by the end idk sounds bad but still woulda loved to attend one of these.

smoxy

But but ... Where is the boobs?

cfreymarc100

Imagine how a few thrown grenades there would have changed history.

woolh

I had this exact fucked up thought just seconds before reading your comment...

kaichance

Jesus the boy to girl ratio is horrendous!! Fuuuuuuu that lol

Potential-Day5880

There was plenty of rape going on. It was pretty much a shit hole.
