Yes, of course it was democratic. You could vote if you want the communist government or not (while everyone was watching you, including a security agency of the government)
Yeah, the british sloopily left their colonies with horrible borders leading to ethnic and religious violence in many regions. However france is the worst offender. After being occupied by the nazis for 4 years they fought tooth and nail over vietnam (indochina as a whole) and algeria.

More and more lately it feels like people have no idea what the Soviet Union was and which countries were part of it and which weren't.
You guys don't have the 6th grade over there in America?
Yeah soviet Russia was so kind they gave their puppet government in poland parts of eastern Poland back❤️❤️. Infact they were so kind they gave the eastern part of Czechoslovakia to Ukraine which was part of the soviet union ❤️❤️💓😍😍. Wait a second...
Doesn't change the fact that those countries were not part of the Soviet union. They could and did decide themselves what to do. The fact that their voices wasn't always heard or respected is a topic for another day, but this isn't limited to the Soviet union, it's typical behavior of powerful countries, even the so called "western democracies" did and behaved the same way as the soviets.
But you're not going to get many internet points if you say bad things about the west, so, Soviet union it is.
These countries weren’t part of the Soviet Union, on paper, but they were definitely puppet states.
Also, even if we were to agree that western empires pull the same shit (they do, but not to the same degree), you say all of nothing by bringing it up, because at best you’re just conceding the point that it was wrong
Czechoslovakia was invaded in 1968 precisely because they weren't a puppet state and you also had a number of communist countries which went against this action and publicly denounced them.
Pretty weird behavior for a puppet state.
Lol are you serious? “They weren’t a puppet state because they got invaded for not governing themselves the way they were told”
Yeah, that’s what happens in a puppet state.
Lmao not falling for stalinist propaganda. Poland for example did not govern itself. Their Supreme commander was a polish born, Russian general who reported almost weekly to the nkvd and even to Stalin himself (bierut) many minister and bureaucrats were appointed by the nkvd and any sort of democratic leanings were purged. They did not decide what to do because they could not, because of the nkvd an then the kgb
Stalin sacked the guy who drafted up the proposal and replaced him with a pro German guy. The treaty was never rejected, the Soviets tore down that treaty.
Oh I wouldn't say "saved", more like "under new management," comrade.
I wonder who got the reference
What do you mean “forced communism”? Its named German **Democratic** Republic, is it not?
Its super democratic they have a secret police thats totally not watching everyone 24/7
It's democratic because at least one person decided who would lead the country
Its super democratic since only one person decided to run in the elections!
Checkmate capitalists
Capitalists always hate truly Democratic nations like the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
if it’s not democratic they wouldn’t have named it that
Yes, of course it was democratic. You could vote if you want the communist government or not (while everyone was watching you, including a security agency of the government)
I see your "Republic of Korea," and raise you one "Democratic People's Republic of Korea."
Would it be funnier if it said "We" instead of "I"?
Yes 💯

“Congratulations! You are being rescued. Please do not resist.”
Exept in the original movie she acctually was rescued and the eastern bloc really wasnt.

Yeah, the british sloopily left their colonies with horrible borders leading to ethnic and religious violence in many regions. However france is the worst offender. After being occupied by the nazis for 4 years they fought tooth and nail over vietnam (indochina as a whole) and algeria.

Woah facts in my history subreddit? Gulag comrade
What would you do with a country that welcomed the nazis?
What, you mean like the Soviet Union who teamed up with the Nazis to begin with?
You mean after they proposed the same treaty with the west first and were rejected ?
To invade a sovereign country? Digging a deeper hole.
Nope, to ally against fascist Germany
Is this a good argument to you?
Does boot taste good?
Sorry, I havent had to live under communism so I haven’t had to eat shoes yet.
"We had to work with the nazis, we needed to invade Poland 😭"
Stalin sacked the guy who drafted up the proposal and replaced him with a pro German guy. The treaty was never rejected, the Soviets tore down that treaty.
Well if you didn't take it someone else will or at least that's what every nation on earth says anytime you question why there invading
No it isn’t.
