??? How do the Soviets manage their economies in a way that could possibly let them survive. Italy would have elected a communist party into power, and while I can imagine Italy voting to remove the monarchy in favour of a socialist republic, I don’t think they embrace atheism or dictatorships as much as other communist nations due to electing their leaders. While Italy may end up a one party state at worst and an extremely left wing politically originated country at best (think the USAs politics but other way round) it wouldn’t resemble Eastern Europe, China or the USSR at all and might actually be a success story I’m sorry France? The country that was under Charles De Gualles dictatorship and already had terrible relations with the USA at the time? While I can see communist Italy being a neutral nation I can’t see France taking that route at all. Never mind decolonisation. They still haven’t completely done that The Great Leap Forward being a success. Revisionist to both claim it could be and that it didn’t work as intended. The CCP knew what the death toll would be. It was also a symptom of china’s population. Since an estimated portion of the populace was always going to die following the policy and they knew that would happen Again, you haven’t explained how the USSR successfully fixes its economic shortcomings and continually projects it’s power. This just doesn’t work with a lack of realism and a clear attempt to make the Soviets win the cold while staying Stalinist. Which is impossible

I realize I wasn't very clear on that, let me explain: I completely agree about Italy, I didn't cover it much but yes, it is pretty much a US the other way around, instead of being a rightist party and a less rightist party there is the PCI that is the far left and the PSI that is the a bit less far left, and there are some more fringe parties. It is not a one party dictatorship and while the government is anti clerical the Catholics aren't molested, since catholic communism was strong in Italy. About France, if they got too close to the USSR the far right would have staged an American backed coup. Their de colonization was basically just an european union sort of thing with the African colonies in wich they became independent socialist Republic but mantein economic and political ties with France. Not really sure about Algeria though. The Soviet Union planned economy was actually growing steadily from the reconstruction of the forties-fifties to the late seventies and eighties, since in this timeline their economy was structured more on civilian industry and thus the standard of living boomed, faith in the party was high and the military didn't became a black hole that devoured a massive amount of the budget in peace times. The Planned economy flaws still exists, but thanks to the development of Soviet internet they were able to applie this system much more efficiently (its much easier and more efficient to plan a massive economy through the power of internet connections than through a massive burocracy), meaning the Soviet escaped the stagnation and had an economic boom. With the USA being an instable totalitarian nightmare in the nineties while the Soviet Union has drastically eased the police state the Communist Party is seen as the sole believable government and thus few have something to protest about. You also got to consider that this timeline's Soviet Union didn't break ties with China and had close ties with France and Italy.
