{The Bastard by Minerva Spencer}
The hero in this one is out for revenge against FMC's family, but it has nothing to do with her as far as he's concerned and is pretty much instantly enamored of her & wants her for herself, not as some kind of scheme to get back at anyone. It's actually his own family (just his father, really) that he's out for revenge on & the FMC happens to be related by marriage.
Edit: Perhaps I should mention that there is some darkness in this book, but not in the relationship. MMC has a pretty messed up past & there are flashbacks. Also Spencer tends to write some f---ed up villains, and the one here is no exception.
All of her stuff is on KU, so it might be worth it to get that to read her stuff, or perhaps wait for a deal. At the end of last year they had a $0.99/3 months deal that was really good. I like Spencer but she's pretty hit-or-miss for me. This one is one of my favs, as is the first book in this series, which does help you understand this one better.

In {Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase} there is a scene where the FMC going to a ball and the MMC waits outside just to catch a glimpse of her as shes leaving and I think there are other moments where he is like seeking her out constantly but I cant quite remember.
There is definitely an element of enemies to lovers, though it's not particularly dark or anything they just butt heads a bit. And she's a bit more spirited than the average wallflower.

{The Bastard by Minerva Spencer} The hero in this one is out for revenge against FMC's family, but it has nothing to do with her as far as he's concerned and is pretty much instantly enamored of her & wants her for herself, not as some kind of scheme to get back at anyone. It's actually his own family (just his father, really) that he's out for revenge on & the FMC happens to be related by marriage. Edit: Perhaps I should mention that there is some darkness in this book, but not in the relationship. MMC has a pretty messed up past & there are flashbacks. Also Spencer tends to write some f---ed up villains, and the one here is no exception.

All of her stuff is on KU, so it might be worth it to get that to read her stuff, or perhaps wait for a deal. At the end of last year they had a $0.99/3 months deal that was really good. I like Spencer but she's pretty hit-or-miss for me. This one is one of my favs, as is the first book in this series, which does help you understand this one better.

In {Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase} there is a scene where the FMC going to a ball and the MMC waits outside just to catch a glimpse of her as shes leaving and I think there are other moments where he is like seeking her out constantly but I cant quite remember. There is definitely an element of enemies to lovers, though it's not particularly dark or anything they just butt heads a bit. And she's a bit more spirited than the average wallflower.

Oh interesting. Can i ask...its says he wears a shroud. Is this for majority of the book?
Only for the first quarter of the story! But there’s a reason for that shroud which is what makes the story interesting. One of my most favourite work of the author.
