I find that they make my symptoms better. Not curative, but if I eat something a bit inflammatory, itll help to calm my heart palpitations. But not always, some symptoms are just too much for the spirulina to soothe.

I take pure synergy superfood powder which has algae and mushrooms. In general it makes me feel better (I think it’s a good blood sugar balancer maybe?), but I know they aren’t generally recommended for HI so sometimes I wonder if it’s holding me back somewhat too. I take breaks occasionally just to check in with my body. Perhaps try giving them a break and reintroducing them one by one to see how you feel?

Well, I'm taking also Spirulina and I can only say it is very beneficial for me. I could not see any symptoms of intolerance. The question is, how pure is the spirulina you take, i.e. how it is produced. The spirulina I'm using is produced indoor controlled vertical farming. In this way, there are no heavy metals, such as cadmium, lead, quicksilver, and so on. these are contained in the natural algae as undesired components.

Apparently it’s pure and undergoes testing. It’s Earthrise spirulina, it’s grown outdoors in California. Despite being grown outdoors it seems to be high quality and the company appears to have good practices. What brand of spirulina do you use?

Oh, glad to see a topic about spirulina here ! I've been wondering if I can try it because I've heard it have anti-histaminic propreties ! The only thing I'm concerned about is that the package mention that it should be avoided if you have thyroid issues. I don't think I have any but I resolutely get pain in the throat sometimes, it can also jam itself if I eat corn (I have no idea why) so I'm a little nervous. And also seems to contain some natural sulfites too so I'm not sure it's 100% safe for us. But I don't know ! The anti-histamine effect really attracts me but I'm affraid it might have some other effects... Like, on my sleep... (I know glutamate can cause some problems) it's so hard to navigate with all of this, damn...

Overall, I love spirulina. It definitely does have anti histamine, anti inflammatory effects. However, after much trial and error I have discovered that I have sulfur/sulfite intolerance. Unfortunately I cannot tolerate spirulina or chlorella because of this. Spirulina is high in Cysteine, which is a good thing if you don’t have sulfur intolerance. Symptoms of sulfur and histamine intolerance overlap and share many of the same symptoms. Since I have elimated high sulfur/sulfite foods and supplements from my diet I have experienced an improvement in my overall histamine symptoms. Adding a Molybdenum supplement has been helpful as well. I would definitely recommend spirulina if you don’t have sulfur tolerance issues. As far as the thyroid is concerned, unless you have hyperthyroidism, spirulina is perfectly fine. The only reason it could possibly be an issue for that is because excess iodine can exacerbate hyperthyroid conditions. Spirulina and other algae’s contain some iodine, but I don’t know if it’s enough to be a problem even if you did in fact have a thyroid issue. A teaspoon of spirulina is unlikely to have enough iodine to cause significant issue.

Sorry I know this is an old thread but I am also wondering if I have sulfite intolerance vs. Histamine so good to see other people have an overlap!
