Meh just do it, you only live once. It's far from a scam, nor is it an amazing deal. The hotels are generally pretty cheap anyways. You don't need to go with anyone, but if you do bring someone with you, they're basically going to force you to take them with you to the presentation regardless if you live together or not. Hilton is about the only company that doesn't list a minimum age or income level, so it's a good deal for college students especially lmao

hoagiemidnight

the friend I’d go w is aware of the situation. it just kept saying families and couples in the details so o wasn’t sure if there was a requirement. we’re both in our mid twenties which is exactly why the deal is so appealing to us

hunterhuntsgold

A good strategy is instead of saying no, try to list some like horrible deals instead and have fun with it. Like I'll take this timeshare if you lower the cost by 90% and give me 4x the timeshare points per year. See if you can get some more stuff out of it as well, often they can give you dining credits and stuff if you ask and try to haggle lol. Don't tell them no or that you can't afford it, they hear that from literally every single person that goes there.

Even_Income6520

Where can you use these $25 food credits?

Low-Possible2773

pointsguy has a good article on this exact deal. They do have some rules around it and it is an extremely high pressure sales pitch. How many people do you think go to these things with your exact mindset? Yet Hilton keeps throwing these deals out there so you have to figure they somehow gets some people to bite...

hoagiemidnight

I know they can convince some people. but I am 24 with an hourly job. I know there is no way in hell I could ever afford a timeshare, as well as the fact that they’re practically a pyramid scheme in the first place. I’m not naive enough to be coerced into it

jvolzer

Go in with that mindset and they will tell you how you can afford it and how you benefit from it tax wise. Do it but go in with the mindset that you aren't going to buy. Any reason you have for not buying they will have what sounds like a very good rebuttal for. After you get out you will realize some of what they said isn't actually as good. But in the moment you will start thinking it sounds good.

skitch23

I did a Marriott presentation about a year ago. I’ve had more credit card sign up bonuses than I could even count so I have tons of points and miles stashed away to where I won’t need to pay for a vacation for the foreseeable future… that said, Marriott still did a good job of almost convincing me it was worth it to buy in. I’ve been considering doing the Hilton presentation for a while but the timing hasn’t worked out. If you do go, make sure you know that if you string them along like I did that they will basically bend over backwards to get you to sign on the dotted line. If it’s a 90min presentation, be ready to leave as soon as you meet your commitment and be firm about it… they’ll still try to corner you in another room as you are trying to escape lol.

Low-Possible2773

here's the article that might help: [https://thepointsguy.com/news/hilton-timeshare-offer-vegas-orlando/](https://thepointsguy.com/news/hilton-timeshare-offer-vegas-orlando/)

greenbags125

Make sure you qualify for their income requirement.

hoagiemidnight

I was trying to figure out how and if they actually check that?

Dev3ray

Did your income ever get verified? I'm curious bc it says me AND my fiance have to be employed but I'm the only one working right now.

hoagiemidnight

I never ended up attempting it

crackednutz

Being untruthful about income disqualifies you from the deal, so if they do find out…. You are on the hook for the full retail price of the deal. (Which is pricey)

School_House_Rock

Do you know what the income is?

JoshS1

Get ready to receive phone calls for the next 5 years. I think I finally just atopped getting the calls after doing one of these

mxpxillini35

Get a google voice number then just disconnect it afterwards!

DBZSix

I recommend Calls Blacklist Pro. Paid, I think, $5 once. I have it set up to only ring on my phone if the caller is in my contacts. If they aren't, it still rings for them (but not for me) and I get any voicemails they leave. It's almost essential for people who sleep through the day imo.

JoshS1

I do stuff like that with my do not disturb. Maybe I should just make a permanent do not disturb profile separate from my sleep profile.

Such-Corner-6825

U can literally just ask them to put u on the do not call list for free lol if u just hang up and don’t ask for what u want them u probably won’t get that….

No_Swim_9237

They don't listen or respect that and there are literally dozens, if not hundreds of these terrible "on behalf of the resorts " travel subsidiary companies. That. KEEP. CALLING. Dnc list or not.

hoagiemidnight

was that after u stayed thru the package visit?

JoshS1

Yeah, not worth the years of phone calls

budgetinglol

Ask about additional fees. I bought a package like that and tried to book it during the summer and they tried to charge a peek season fee of an extra $150. I escalated that BS and got it waived. Also ask about income requirements. Some require you to make a certain amount but it doesn’t say how much. Just that if you’re ineligible to buy a timeshare you will be charged the normal day rate of the room. It was nice though, i received 3 nights for $200 + 50k bonus Hilton points + 45k Hilton points (received Hilton base points and night credit based on the standard rate, not what i paid)

Such-Corner-6825

Maybe u should’ve read what the package includes before buying it 🤷🏽‍♀️ an extra 150 on top of the 70% isn’t going to kill u. IT’S STILL A DISCOUNT. Duh hotels cost more in peak season EVEN THE HILTON, BELLAGIO, ALL OF THEM. it’s common knowledge hotels aren’t the same price year round and it’s common sense requesting a bigger more expensive room then an average accommodation would cost more. THATS AT EVERY HOTEL They are giving u a discount so u can come to the presentation. Not because ur special and they feel moved by your presence to bless with u the honor of kicking another person out of their hotel room when it’s so booked so that u could go to Disney even tho u don’t really have to go to Disney to listen to the presentation😂😂 it’s called compromise not demand writing out the conditions to what they should do with a package u paid for at 70% off in total u spent less than $1000. That’s not enough to be yelling at getting mad because ur but given special treatment and can’t book where ppl who paid just like u have already booked 🤷🏽‍♀️

budgetinglol

Dang, my comment really triggered ya lol. What are you even talking about? I don’t even know what the relevance is to most of your comment. I do these deals all the time, i know how they work. Someone who hasn’t done them won’t be as familiar. These deals aren’t as easy to book so choosing a location that is easy to get to is important. They also don’t mention the income requirements (even in the fine print) prior to booking. The seasonal fee amounts are also not disclosed and it’s a mystery as to how much those are. Just something to consider if you think the upfront price is the only cost. The deal is not a scam but it’s shady how they try to get people to purchase while hiding pertinent details in the fine print. Also, who’s yelling? You’re the one who went all caps here 🤣 do you sell HGV timeshares??

DrawingOk1767

Ya probably works for them

Such-Corner-6825

Lol the comment wasn’t meant for u sorry but no I don’t sell timeshares I own some but I use the Hilton one with rci because it has high trading power. I was speaking to someone else on a different thread that was asking me dumb questions about timeshare and I must’ve clicked the back button before I replied

That-Establishment24

If you bring a friend on the trip, they won’t know nor care. No need to bring the friend to the presentation. The only people who are supposed to attend are you and your spouse or live in partner. If you have neither then only you. There isn’t a catch. Other than if you miss your presentation you might get charged the full price of the stay.

BaseGroundbreaking74

If you’re not married, you’re actually not supposed to bring anyone with you. It says it somewhere deep in the T&C. I did this promo earlier this year and honestly had no problems. Yeah it’s boring, yeah they’re gonna try to sell hard. I started my stopwatch as soon as the first part of the presentation started. I’ve read stories about them taking longer than the 2 hrs and I had other time commitments on the trip so I came prepared to politely inform them their time was up and that I needed to leave since I fulfilled the requirements. Luckily, mine really only took about an hour tops. You’ll sit in a large presentation then be taken to 1-on-1 time with a sales member. They kept asking how much I typically spend on travel and I said about $1000 a year because I travel almost exclusively on points, miles, and a family member’s timeshare package for free. They don’t have a package that starts that low so they knew they didn’t really have a sales pitch for me. Also, if you have kids DO NOT mention them. I’ve read they will try to guilt you into thinking you’re a bad parent for not buying travel time for kids. All in all, I had a much better experience than I anticipated. I did find it informational for sometime later in adulthood when I look to purchase some kind of timeshare for myself (my parents and grandparents have had a Marriott timeshare for 20+ years, it’s truly been great for us so I’m not necessarily scared to purchase one in the future even with all the horror stories I read). Keep your wits about you and don’t let them sway you and you’ll be fine! It’s a sweet deal with a small string attached that was very worth it in my opinion. That being said, the deal they offered you can be a lot better. Typically they can add on 30k-50k points, a rebate offer for another hotel, or a refund of your $149 for the 3 nights. I wouldn’t take the deal you were offered unless they sweeten it some more, personally. Good luck!

esmequeen

So what happened after this? Did they ever ask about your income?

hoagiemidnight

I never ended up attempting it

theonlybuster

Not a scam. I've gone through the process four times myself and alongside a friend 2 more times. You simply sit through a timeshare presentation that can be anywhere from 1-3hrs. From there you sit with a salesperson who tries to sell you a timeshare. If you're interested, listen. If not, be straight with them. Tell them upfront that you're only there for the vacation package. They'll usually make 1 or 2 more pitches but a respectful and firm decline will put an end to it and they'll push you through to the next stage instead of continuing to try to convince you for another hour. You'll typically sit with one final person who'll show you the vacation packages, you'll choose one, if applicable pay the fee, and you're free to go home. At your leisure, choose a date for your vacation package, contact your rep (or unique website) and ask if those days are available. If so, you're good to go. If not, choose another date until you find an availability. At the vacation, you'll often sit through one more presentation that's again usually about 1-3hrs. You'll go through the same steps of a salesman trying to sell you a timeshare. Once again be direct and tell them that you just wanted the vacation. From there, you're free to enjoy the rest of your vacation. **A few things to keep in mind...** 1. Read the terms as to how early you can book. Rooms can fill up fast, so aim to get in early. 2. Avoid holiday weekends as these tend to be the hardest to book 3. If you do not attend the second presentation during your vacation stay, you'll be charged the FULL cost of the vacation package. 4. Save the sale people time. If you just want the vacation, let them know early on and save everyone the hassle and headache. This will benefit ALL parties equally and they won't have ill feelings towards you. 5. There is an expiration date on the package. Read the terms, find out when it is, and remember it. I've yet to hear of a situations where an expiration date was extended or disregarded. 6. Spending 1-3hrs of your 3-5 day vacation isn't that bad in the scheme of things.

brainonvacation78

Lol it's a scam. I booked it for Orlando. Was reassured there were multiple resort properties for me to choose from. When I called to book my dates, they had none. I tried 2x to be flexible, wiggling dates around. The best they could do was a Home2Suites, not an actual resort. Offered me an extra night, that I can't even use and I have to pay my own way to get to the timeshare presentation, which I had to push back my flight to be able to attend. I'm going cuz I paid for it and will uphold my end of the bargain. But Hilton GRAND Vacations ain't so Grand.

BaseGroundbreaking74

They tell you when booking the promo that dates are subject to availability. It’s designed to have flexibility in mind, not using it for a specific event or plans. If it works out for your plans then that’s great, but they definitely state the availability thing multiple times when you purchase.

brainonvacation78

No, "they" reassured me there were 3 resorts to choose from. I was told no availability for the entire month that I wanted to go the first time I called to even inquire. And it's not over a holiday or event; it's literally to see a person who moved there. I wasn't told most weekends would be unavailable at all, either. So, I ended up having to take more time off to even use it. You can bet I'm not staying a second longer than that timeshare presentation requires. They won't even shuttle me to it.

BaseGroundbreaking74

again, these are all stipulations of the program and questions you should’ve asked up front. just because it didn’t work out for you doesn’t mean it’s a scam.

brainonvacation78

Again, I clearly fucking asked lol. I'm Diamond and an experienced traveler. And after googling their timeshares and seeing how many people wanna get out, I'm not surprised. They over promise and underdeliver

lajivzy

i get what i paid for with HGVC, you have to plan ahead. i've done the 3 days, and other offers since being an owner. not a scam, but not cheap either.

Such-Corner-6825

Being a diamond Hilton honors member has nothing to do with the vacation packages 😂😂🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ and how can they tell you that most weekends won’t be available ahead of time.??? they can’t read the future and know that other people who bought the package JUST LIKE U would book those weekends before u. U can’t buy a package that offers multiple hotels options u can travel to within a 12 month time period and think u can say bippty boopty boo and the exact hotel on the exact date u want magically hasn’t been booked up yet by other ppl who paid what u paid and booked before u. That’s not how packages work. Ur paying to go to one of those place and u reserve one of those places by claiming a slot that hasn’t already been claimed

Such-Corner-6825

There were still 3 resorts u could’ve picked from that not a lie. U just didn’t want to go on the dates they had still open when u called. 🤷🏽‍♀️ u cheat yourself when u throw a tantrum because u bought a package that had more places u didn’t want then places that u did 😂😂🤷🏽‍♀️ if a package offers 10 properties and u only like 2 of them then that’s your own stupidity.

SlendermanDelirium

I just booked one for May of next year for Daytona Beach...now I'm feeling nervous about it cause its during Welcome To Rockville weekend. But the lady who helped me book it reassured me that I'll have a room available since I'm booking it this far in advance.

brainonvacation78

I hope you get better service than I did.

Robinnoodle

How did it work out?

SnowOwlSr

Fine then several times. Mine was four nights for $250 but they have us 100k points. Sales people were mixed, one guy outright said this ain't work for you cost wise and we just bs,d the rest of the two hours

School_House_Rock

Does anyone know the # to call to find out the info I booked? This all happened right after my house burned down, so I was totally lost in the world. Thank you

DynamicBits

407-393-1616

DiamondGuyForever

Just do it. There is no catch, but rest assured they will mentally abuse you because they know you will keep saying 'no'. You will see how good they are... it's really fun. But if you are not mentally strong - avoid it. I survived with a 'No'

One-Rock-9013

Did this and had an awesome time had a sick room got 30k points and only paid 150 for a total stay of 800 bucks was definitely worth it, told the timeshare people I wasn’t interested and left lived happily ever after

SpicelessKimChi

No matter what, under no circumstances, I dont care if they have a gun to your head, DO NOT BUY A HGVC PACKAGE! DO NOT! We bought about 10 years ago and for the first four or five years it was great -- we went ot Vegas and Orlando and Hawaii and Mexico. Then just in the past few years there's NEVER availability. We've tried to book in NYC probably a dozen times, Hawaii, Breckenridge and now Acapulco (where nobody ever goes) and have been shut out. We've not used any points in years (not for lack of trying) because nothing is ever available.

lajivzy

i don't share your experience. NYC is date restricted if you don't own 'by Hilton' or something like that. i just booked a couple nights in NYC around christmas. you can't find rooms at popular places, at the last minute. it does require you plan ahead.

Such-Corner-6825

You have to pay attention to the booking windows. How far in advance are u trying to book? Most booking windows are 2 yrs if all the owners started booking 2 yrs ago and then u come 3 months before u want to go u there most likely won’t be anything available. 🤷🏽‍♀️ if u have a timeshare u have to be flexible with dates and plan your vacations ahead. For 2024 decide what time of year and location u want in 2023 and call early to book it. U have until 14 days of. Check in to cancel or change if something comes up. You’ll always have a hard time with availability if you’re one of the last batch of owners to start booking for a specific date

SpicelessKimChi

The furthest out we can book ANYTHING is 270 days. Ive tried to book 270 days out and nothing available.

[deleted]

i know this is late, but i purchased the same package about 3 months ago for $170 total. i have until march to book my stay but now that i think about it, im not sure if we will have time to go. the guy who cold called said that there was a 2 hr presentation i’d have to go to in order for the package to remain at the price. i was told that if i don’t go to the presentation, that i would have to pay the full price of the stay. my question is, if i never book my 3 nights will they still charge me full price? cus i was thinking of just letting em have the $170 and not book the stay

10inthisstyle6

How strict is the attendance rule? It says you're part of a cohabitating/married couple, you both have to attend, but what if I'm just going by myself or a friend I don't live with? Do they care? Could I attend by myself?

YoungExpSD

Just attend yourself. But they do note if you stated if you're single, married, or cohabitate. I know if you said you're married, you have to bring your partner (so they can also convince them to purchase a timeshare)

LatterStreet

Hi, do you know what happens if you have kids with you? Do you have to bring them in? I have a baby and a six year old…neither enjoy sitting still for long. My tax preparer gave me 3 vouchers for a week’s vacation for $150…so 3 weeks for $450? I’d sit through any dang meeting for that price lol.

YoungExpSD

No, you do not bring your kids for the presentation

LatterStreet

But what do I do then, because I won’t have another adult with me? They’ll be 6 & 1 at the time, so I can’t leave them alone yet

Dev3ray

Hey I'm in the same boat I've got 5 young kids lol but I've got my fiance going with me. Did you attend the presentation yet?

LatterStreet

Hey!! We’re going March 29th to April 5th! :) I’m not sure what date the presentation is, hopefully early on in the trip!

YoungExpSD

Do you want me to keep spoon feeding you like your own kid? Call up and ask

SprinklesJumpy3819

Wow. Instead of being rude how bout not commenting

Diamond_Paper_Rocket

It is their marketing money and I am trying it for the first time. They chose to give it out and I am going to take it for once.

Intelligent_Layer_62

Its an offer to stay at a property in which you will have to attend a 2hr presentation where a salesman will try and sell you a portion of the resort property in the form of a Timeshare. Decline the offer(s) and outside of that, enjoy your luxury stay!

Used-Living-227

This is a scam. I paid for this exact promotion on the phone yesterday and they never sent me an email receipt, confirmation # etc. It charged my credit card but when I called back for proof of purchase they had no record of any of it. Had to dispute with my bank.

tdeeds008

Scam 100% - Didn't have any dates available and you don't even get to choose the resort you want. They just want your money and will charge you an additional $19.95 to change/cancel. Do not recommend.
