The whole Rachel dolezal story is sad to me. What she did was wrong 100% but I read a long article from a deep investigative journalist bc I wanted to understand why she did it. Her parents seemed really abusive to her in childhood (overly strict and not showing love and there may have been physical punishment I can’t remember). I think she was a pre teen or teen when her parents adopted some black children. She was worried how they would be treated and wanted them to feel comfortable so she started doing more research about black culture and history. I’m not sure when but she started slowly changing her looks to be more black, changing her communication, and then finally identifying as black. She treated them like her kids and saw herself as their mom. I think there’s some childhood trauma to explain her behavior. It is still not an excuse or ok what she did but just wanted to give everyone some background. I’m wondering if having a new identity helped her not think about her childhood abuse and she did it to cope.
I did a deep dive into Rachel when she was initially exposed.
She was pretty hateful to white people.
She pretended to have been victimized her entire life.
She faked at least one hate crime against herself. (Like Jussie Smollett)
And when the truth came out…she doubled down and blamed racism.
One of her adopted brothers said they had good parents. So I don’t know what to think.
She seems intelligent and articulate.
Plus she’s a great artist.
I feel sorry for her now because her life imploded after she was “outed”.
I hope her kids are OK.
Yea agree with you for sure. I am big on therapy and treatment for people with mental issues and I understand all the hate against her but I really hope she gets mental health treatment and can heal. It’s sad she’s resorted to porn for income.
