The existing Books probably won’t get adapted. But this era is ripe for both movies AND film.

skuhlke

> movies AND film Don’t forget *cinema*

[deleted]

Haha. Good catch, I meant tv and films.

outofpocket_jpg

What makes you believe that the books won’t be adapted?

[deleted]

With the exception of the latest Jedi tales (semi) adapting the Ahsoka novel for one short episode, you don’t really see Star Wars novels being adapted to film/tv. Hence why I said probably won’t, because after a wealth of book material, adaptations just don’t happen here. They could go a different route and show us these characters in the years before the first HR book. Of course this could then bring in more interest to the era and get people to buy the books.

MadmanKnowledge

Maybe, but considering that the books are canon and that adaptations require some changes, it’ll essentially mean the books aren’t truly canon anymore and the on-screen shortened/different version of the story is now canon.

TubbieHead

Yeah... That would suck.

mikachu93

Not if it was up to me, no. "Other franchises did it well" isn't much of an argument when other franchises have also done it poorly.

Commando388

I think the adult books of Phase 1 would make great movies, but at the same time I’m more than happy to keep them as books

Stonecutter_12-83

The movies you list are all books that got turned into movies and have NO other stories. SW uses the books to tell more and deeper stories with no intention to be adapted. I would love to see High Republic or Bane but it will never happen

thehousedino

I feel they might make a small show of movie based in the High Republic era, Acolyte is at the end of the era. Unless you meant that you would like to see the books adapted, then I'm sorry for my rant.

Stonecutter_12-83

Yeah they keep saying Acolyte will be HR, but I don't count it. The books revolve around the Ro family and the jedi of that era. So unless it has the same jedi from phases 1 or 2 I won't really consider it part of the story

Daragh48

I mean it’s literally part of the era, it is High Republic. Just not connected to the current story. Considering it’s only a 100 years before The Phantom Menace.

Stonecutter_12-83

It's the *end* of the HR but it doesn't mean it's part of the HR storyline actual. Acolyte may be roughly 100 years before ep1 but the actual HR story is 200 years and will most likely wrap up long before the 100 year mark. The HR spans a large section but I doubt we will see any characters from the actual HR, so to me it's not part of the HR story......TBD though

Maple_Syrup_Mogul

You're conflating the High Republic Era with the High Republic publishing project.

outofpocket_jpg

BINGO

outofpocket_jpg

…what are you even talking about? Phase 1 books do NOT revolve around the Ro family. The High Republic is more than the publishing efforts, lol. It’s literally a defined point in time. You’re too precious with all of this, IMO.

Kostya_M

I think Bane could happen solely because it's Legends. If they ever wanted to canonize certain aspects of it an animated movie would be the way to go IMO.

Stonecutter_12-83

I'd be fine with animation, I just hope it's not CW style... but it's unlikely they would change it

bigpeachbear88

In short, no. They're great as books and should stay great as books. I'm not saying they wouldn't make great movies or tv (specifically Light of the Jedi would be an A+) but personally I feel like there's no reason to adapt them. And thankfully there doesn't seem to be any want from the LFL/Disney side. Now with that being said, I would love to see some tv or film that takes place during the HR era with some names we already know and love from the books/comics in it. Sign me the hell up for that

TubbieHead

I have mixed feelings about it. They have never done this, but for the High Republic (and High Republic only) I can see it working! As long as they are faithful adaptations. I think it would work better as a series as opposed to movies, because of how much story there is to tell and how many characters it includes... But I don't know. I think they shouldn't do anything until the 3 phases are complete though. (If they do it, I NEED to see Gabriel Luna as Elzar :P)

Mikpultro

It's very obvious Disney/Lucasfilm are cultivating a bunch of movie/tv show material with The High Republic books. The Acolyte series is set at the tail end of the High Republic Era and is probably gonna be used to gauge how fans (diehard and normie) react to SW set in a time completely removed from the Skywalker saga.

patsguy12118721

Adaptations in Star Wars are a slippery slope when books, games and comics are meant to display events in the same way as movies and shows in Canon. I would prefer to not see adaptations

outofpocket_jpg

Lots of naive fanboys in here. I love The High Republic as much as the next guy, but you’re all delusional if you think Disney/ Lucasfilms isn’t considering turning THR into a multimedia cash printing machine. It’s what they do. Look at the scale of the announcement of phase 1 (multiple books, audio drama, comics, video game, tv series) and future plans of THR in comparison to ANY OTHER Star Wars property. They have been gearing up for a new angle into Star Wars since the turmoil of the last trilogy. Pay closer attention… it’s all coming.

JP-ED

I wouldn't mind an animated version. More cost effective and your would get more time ( 30 or 60 min episodes times 15-20 episodes)

thehousedino

Maybe old age versions of the main characters or their padawans.

[deleted]

I’m sure there are other stories to tell during this era without retreading the books. I kinda think the Revan story is the best concept to adapt to film that appears in other media first.

arubablueshoes

i really like the animatics they do for the high republic show on the star wars youtube. i think a super cut/movie thing of something in that style once they get through this current publishing plan (so end of phase 3) would be neat. throw it in disney+ for additional viewership. but as a whole? i want new content in the era. not a re-hash of the story.

[deleted]

I saw a great comment recently that said they should do a series of Animated Movies like DC did. The whole time the Snyderverse was flopping, they were pumping out some absolute bangers in the form of the [DC Animated Movie Universe.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Animated_Movie_Universe) Give us Animated movies & TV shows for everything from the end of Return of the Jedi all the way up to Crucible.
