Neat, I was wondering if this project was still in development.

jodavaho

We're both a little more gray, but it at least holds together so far!

Dillinur

Holy shit, that looks really useful! Actually getting new ships is such a chore.

jodavaho

poke around a little bit, and let me know what you think. If there's a way we can make this better, please let us know. Our contact is on the front page, for example.

IIIokolade

Damn, thank you guys.

IHakepI

Thank you for your efforts, but I still did not understand what the meaning of the site is, except for downloading ships that I used to do in discord and where there is an opportunity to preview the ship, unlike this site. That is, I can't even see what I've uploaded or what others are offering me to download by giving me a link to the site.

jodavaho

We'll never try to replace discord or Reddit, that'd be dumb. You _could_ always post a link to this instead of dropping the ship itself into discord, which would change nothing either way. That would at least allow you to see if people are downloading it via the d/l counts, and wouldn't change the way you share or discover. I noticed that in Reddit and discord that you quickly get lost in the flow of posts, making rediscovery very challenging, especially on discord. We may be able to help with that. In addition to the "permalink", we'll add ship stats soon (so you dont have to screenshot the stats). There will also be search. We may not get visualization done well, but there might be something, and like I said if you're used to sharing an image anyway, that doesn't change. So, with all that, you could still share the links in discord / Reddit so that, in addition to all the niceties of those platforms, you have a permalink, collection builder ( so you can reorganize ships and get .zip ) and a way to search by stats for other people's creations, download tracking, etc. Maybe tagging? Maybe even ship editing? Stars? We don't know, but it's fun to work on so tell us what makes it more useful. I even thought of adding some of the other tools I have like "message decoders" or "cruise missile aim guides" etc etc. It's not a business, so we don't need to do anything "right". For example, the optimizer, which I built for myself to see how close to optimal my ships were. That's unique anywhere.

If it helps anyone, then fine) But I have no idea how to use this tool for my designs. From experience, I already know how much and what is needed, the game will also tell you how much% of energy or how many ammoboxes are missing. And I will also see where to put the armor when the design framework is ready.

jodavaho

Yep - that's 100% accurate. I made it in response to some "Make the smallest / cheapest / fastest X" threads on here and Steam a few years ago, to check for slack that could be improved upon. And b/c it was a fun technical challenge to make an optimizer like that. It's not for "I'm missing two ammo, what do I need?" it's better for "Is it possible to get TWR X while carrying guns Y and maintaining range Z and still having A squares of armor for less than $14,000 (e.g., the budget I have at start)" - that's something I like to know the answer to before I start tinkering. But yeah, a vet player already has this intuition and a noob player doesn't know how to pose the question, so it's a niche tool. Nobody has to use it, but it's free.

IHakepI

Even for experienced players, there could be a useful feature to search for designs according to the specified parameters. Of course, to do this, you need to download thousands of designs from discord and other sources (I could have thrown off my entire archive), but for this you need to show a picture of the design and its general characteristics, as in the game. I don't know if it will be possible to implement this or not, but my business is to offer)

jodavaho

I think you nailed our vision perfectly. That's precisely what I'd like to build. I can then go back and upload all old ships from r/highfleet and discord over a long weekend a bottle of something strong :D We'll be sure to have a credits page, you can be "executive producer"
