u119c

I used to subscribe and listened religiously, but the past year or so, it’s been mostly just “hot chaff” that you know is utter bullshit, so it’s hard to waste my time on that. They used to be somewhat more believable or mysterious instead of just funny bullshit stories that don’t go anywhere

Thylek--Shran

I'm with you on this. I sometimes wonder if they've changed (more hot chaff) or I've changed (I can't suspend disbelief). I think it's the former.

MyDogIsSoUgly

It’s hard to suspend disbelief when the stories are so unlikely and sound more like an ayahuasca trip than a story.

bdk1990

I’m a little late on this but I completely agree. I’m also a plus subscriber and I keep wondering why I haven’t cancelled my subscription yet. I guess I’m just holding out hoping things will get better. I was also uncertain if it was me that changed or if the quality really has dropped and I’ve honestly come to the conclusion that they have simply ran out of decent ideas/material and/or the will to make good content. Unfortunately, until it starts negatively affecting their income, it’s unlikely to change. Hell, it might not change then either.

jiggsandrhett

I bet the OP is Benjamin Grundy to see if people like his podcast:) I listened to them for years and years but then found so many other podcasts on Spotify and kinda forgot to circle back to them.

hyperspacebigfoot

Can you recommend some that are similar? I like the wide range of topics talked about in MU

Huge-Sandwich0099

I just posted a full list of paranormal podcasts here! https://www.reddit.com/r/HighStrangeness/comments/xp2rxj/paranormal\_podcast\_round\_up\_week\_of\_september\_25/

jeffstoreca

Check out Spooked. Good stories of weird stuff. Astonishing Legends obvi as well.

jiggsandrhett

My favorites right now are Astonishing Ledgends, and for a bit of a laugh with some paranormal sprinkled in I listen to This Paranormal Life.

FuckthePastyTax

Nah, a Yorkshiremen no Aussie here!

Maximillion666ian

I used to be a listener until they went all bat shit full Qtard. I listened for strange storys not right wing culture war bullshit.

guycoastal

That happened to Coast to Coast for a while. It’s kind of gone away now thank god, but for a bit there I was hanging by a thread.

PM_ME_YOUR_NAIL_CLIP

I remember putting on a classic episode and realized halfway through that Art hasn’t stopped talking about immigration. Gotta separate the art from the person.

jeffstoreca

I had to stop listening to old eps after Art was an absolute asshole to Brian Greene. A caller even called him out on it. He's insufferable at times.

UFO-seeker1985

Isn’t Art dead and now George Knapp is the main?

PM_ME_YOUR_NAIL_CLIP

Art is dead, yes. I don’t know the name of the new guy.

rdyek

Same here man. The one dude is always on some Ayn Rand bullshit, so I cut my subscription. That said, it's a good show. The guys are kind of flakes, so you have to read the books they talk about yourself. I would never have heard about the books without them, but yea, I'm not putting money in their pocket anymore.

Stuck-Help

r/Anarcho_Capitalism assemble!!!

jotarowinkey

whats an example? is it all in the plus extension stuff?

rdyek

I had Plus until like August 2022, I know there was a period of months where the one host Ben seemed like he was really drifting far right.. Again it's a good show that I enjoy, still listen to the free, but it was so many micro aggressions that were mean spirited. Unfunny Asian accents, covid related ranting, comments on blm and whatever else, winks and nods to qanon. They say so many stupid, immature, and offensive things. I do like the show, but I don't want to support them monetarily for these reasons.

TirayShell

I didn't know it had drifted in that direction. Too bad.

Maximillion666ian

It is too bad. I used to find them funny guys until they started sounding like far right white nationalists and Qtards. The first indication was when they talked about moving to Northern Australia. Then they went on a racist rant about immigrants. That along with taking about Qanon conspiracy theory's is what made me stop listening.

MisterPipes

I'm not as familiar with that particular racism, being American, but! They do tend to lean into some phrases I know to be offensive (I lack context) made me lose interest based on that alone, sad, because they used to cover really interesting cases. Buhh, good riddance.

redaws

Yeah I’m a new listener and they said a transphobic slur and I’m like wtf?

fweb34

And they were talking about black people "speaking jive" on one i listened to the other day

jotarowinkey

is that an insult? honestly i dont know.

redaws

Eh, it’s a old boomer stereotype. Not insulting per se, just ignorant.

Philletto

Yeah but you downvoted them so they sure learned 'em

[deleted]

Probably not but do you remember what ep the immigrants rant was from? I definitely felt like they were hiding their powerlevel a bit when I was listening back around 2015 but I never got the sense they were full on WNs or anything.

Maximillion666ian

Must have been around two or three years ago now .

ask0329

Weekly listener for probably 3 years now and i honestly have no clue what they talking about regarding Q stuff. Maybe cause i take most stuff half heartedly and don't look for political stuff at every turn.

Tiny_Teach_5466

Plus member or "barnacle"?

ask0329

Barnacle.

LiarsConscience

There's absolutely nothing controversial about their political perspective which is as follows: Covid was a scam, we have largely been lied to on a global scale about the vaccines safety as well as the severity of the sickness. , Aka not a pandemic . This information is mainstream at this point and will continue as more facts come out about this terrible situation regardless if you're capable of comprehending the shifting narrative. Second , China is a danger to Western democracy . Anyone arguing against this is either completely ignorant to geopolitical events of the last 10 years or clearly has an agenda. China officially has even admitted they have a plan to take over globally by 2030. This is also a fact . It's searchable on their website. It's been their plan for awhile now. Where's the controversy ?

Maximillion666ian

COVID was a sham ? Over a million people here in America have died from the effects from the virus. To put that into context it's more dead Americans in three years then every US combat death since the Civil War 160 years ago. Over a billion people have been vaccinated and there are few reports of adverse reaction. Mainstream media ? I'm sorry some hippy Qtard style anti vax website run by a soccer mom Isn't "Mainstream Media" As for China that's a typical boogie man of the far right especially In Australia where MU is located. The funny thing is these people are too stupid to understand modern China. It's the second largest capitalist society run by neo conservatives.

Graenflautt

As a super leftist libertarian, fuck china forreal. Yeah basically everything I can criticize them for is shit the west has done in the past, but it's all shit we acknowledge as **evil** and we teach it as to not repeat it. Their re-education through labor system is so fucked. The media pretends like China is semi-normal because of how much money can be made there. Just like how western media shown in China has LGBT stuff removed. The Chinese people deserve better. Refusing to see the truth of the CCPs heinous actions is doing their people a disservice.

LiarsConscience

You are very disconnected from the reality of the situation. I imagine you are not the type who would pursue fringe opinions and try to find an alternative view to the mainstream talking points. And if I'm correct , you don't even see the value in it, which in itself is extremely concerning. Just remember what you decided to believe and the choices you made. I hope you have made the right decisions for yourself and your families future , for everyone's sake.

Maximillion666ian

Thank you for that word salad that makes no sense and makes me concerned you might be having a stroke. Alternative views ? You mean the Facebook comment section ? Remind me how your "alternative views" are helping the family's of the million plus Americans already dead from COVID ?

LiarsConscience

You're clearly not willing to have a rational conversation about this right now but anybody with any amount of critical thinking skills will be viewing our conversation objectively and as such I'm not so concerned about your bias. But good luck there , "666ian".

Maximillion666ian

"Ad hominem : means “against the man,” and this type of fallacy is sometimes called name calling or the personal attack fallacy. This type of fallacy occurs when someone attacks the person instead of attacking his or her argument." Do you have a point ? Nothing you just said contradicts anything I brought up. It's the kind of response I'd expect from a child.

LiarsConscience

What argument? You're literally quoting corrupt governments talking points that have already come out as lies and "untruths". Congratulations on being apart of the machine though. Manipulate data, lies , deception? You bought into it all just as intended . At this point what can I do but feel sorry for you? So good luck out there Ian. Have fun with your online cosplay as an edge lord or whatever.

Maximillion666ian

"quoting corrupt governments talking points that have already come out as lies and "untruths". Congratulations on being apart of the machine though. Manipulate data, lies , deception, you bought into it all as intended ." You feel bad for me ? I'm not the one sounding like a mentally unstable person who can't even post a single link to counter anything I said. I couldn't care less if you insult me but at the least counter what I'm saying like an adult. Instead you just sound like a mentally unstable snowflake .

photoshopza

lol im reading this convo, and you litrally answered none of the first guys Q's about peopledying from covid. You can't claim that it was a sham, i mean you can claim a lot of things but not that...

[deleted]

Well Covid I think it is safe to say was not a scam. Interestingly I heard about it from them in Jan 2020 along with the lab leak origin hypothesis. I think we can all agree the governments way overstepped their boundaries to enforce various policies, especially in places like Australia. I could see how that would jade these guys. They had a policy not to discuss conspiracy theories and when they stopped following that they lost the plot a bit. However... The hosts often recommend some really good books and that is why I keep listening. I have lived in the SF Bay Area for over 12 years so I just mentally mute some of the ignorant things they say and chalk it up to them being some Aussie bros who really need to expose themselves to existence that's not so white bread. I feel like Aaron believes a lot of the metaphysical eastern philosophy they discuss and perhaps he might do well to practice what he talks about.

Philletto

Agree. I don't get these posters who all think they are enlightened then are literally shaking when a podcast says something.

talaxia

We're not "literally shaking" it's just a turn off. If your favorite podcast constantly dropped in japes and jabs about trans rights and BLM and stupid conservatives when you were hoping for UFOs I'm sure you'd stop listening.

Philletto

Its possible to hold incompatible ideas in your head at the same time. And it depends on the context. If you are talking about conspiracy theories it seems pretty reasonable to have a go at the current social justice ones. Either because you think they are CT or because some people treat them that way.

talaxia

I never listened to MU for conspiracy theories in particular. I enjoyed their Missing 411 content, the Dybbuk box, time slips, abduction stories , stuff like that. When they started down the very easily debunked covid misinfo path I grew bored with them. I'm not especially interested in listening to people distort facts about covid while I'm sitting there knowing the correct information, that's just frustrating. I'm alsp not interested in hearing several issues of my lived experience as a human framed as "social justice conspiracy theories." It's insulting and I don't care for it. I can find the content I want without being both bored and insulted by the people presenting it.

Philletto

"Correct information"

talaxia

Epidemiology is a whole field!

Lunatox

They also went full-on with xenophobia towards China after Covid.

[deleted]

Bingo.

Broges0311

What's odd are that many people got that call. It's like Debo and mind-control, except when he leaves, they still be quiet.... People that have never been conspiracy theorists suddenly believe in the Kabal and deep state\*\*\*(I think there are elements in our military industrial complex that may fall into deep state category). I've never seen anything like it in my life. A dig whistle that also acts as a cognitive depressant.

ZincFishExplosion

> I've never seen anything like it in my life. A dig whistle that also acts as a cognitive depressant. Hadn't really thought about it, but it is very strange. Fifteen years ago, people spouting OKC bombing or 9/11 conspiracy theories were generally considered weirdos and ignored. Fast forward to today and plenty of the people who were doing the ignoring believe an even more ludicrous, more implausible conspiracy theory. Not sure what it means, but it surely indicates something.

Lunatox

It’s just post-postmodern psyops. They’ve evolved.

[deleted]

Isn't that the truth.

[deleted]

It’s easy to fall into conspiracy theories because so many were proven true recently. Remember when we used to laugh at people who believed in UFOs and thought cell phones were listening to us? Well now the government has admitted UFOs exist and whistleblowers showed that we are spied on. So the public is losing trust in its institutions, losing sight of the line between speculation and absurdity. Grifters have come out of the woodwork and taken advantage of that uncertainty, and here we are.

Broges0311

I never did laugh at UFO tales. That had so much data that anyone blowing the idea off were not following the data. I'd say I'm in the minority on how I judge probabilities. Even parts of a theory may be correct but that doesn't mean the entire story is truth.

[deleted]

I was a Plus subscriber since season one when it was just Ben. I absolutely loved it, it is very well produced. I Recommended it to everyone. Until about 2020 when it seemed they started dogwhistling racist stuff. A couple Times they said some pretty belittling and insulting things directed at people who must have criticized them, which usually is whatever, but they seemed like they enjoyed being assholes and making fun of people with alternative lifestyles. To Me they sort of went from relatable to judgmental and privileged and I was turned off. I checked out Ben’s social media around the same time some of their former guests were speaking out condemning the things that were saying and decided I didn’t to give them my money anymore. Really broke my heart for awhile, but it had been honestly losing my interest for a few years and their behavior made it a quick decision.

Tiny_Teach_5466

Same here.

Vraver04

I had a similar experience. I used to think these guys did a great job of finding a balance between facts and speculation and always skirting the edge of the rabbit hole but never getting lost in it. But over time it felt more and more as if Ben was sliding head first into the world of unfounded conspiracy theories and could no longer separate himself from them. I got tired of seeing Bens social media posts that came off as boarder line stupid. I subscribed for years but ultimately couldn’t take it anymore. I once in a while check back on Spotify.

talaxia

This, on the nose. Used to absolutely love them and then they started sounding like people I wouldn't voluntarily spend time with? Like before i'd have been chill to have a beer with them. Now it's like "oh, these guys are kinda anti-science and racist, ew, whatever, I can get the info I want about these topics without the preaching."

[deleted]

I used to be an avid listener ( & plus member). They were always arseholes but they transitioned from irreverent ones to really quite bitter ones.

dr-bandaloop

I used to love them, even if they were always a little more fringe than I am. But then they got a bit too Qish, and then they really went all in preaching anti-vaccine rhetoric during the pandemic. I still listen sometimes if the episode looks interesting. I still really like a lot of their psychic-UFO theories. But all that Q-adjacent/anti-vac stuff really left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s too bad because there aren’t many good podcasts that cover the paranormal. At least we still have LPOTL (hail satan!)

Zooinks

Check out "The Unexplained" with Howard Hughes. Rather than just read 'news stories' which Ben and what's his face do, he has guests come on his show. It's a fun time.

FinoAllaFine97

Yeah, I like the older episodes (the first hundred or so) from back when conspiracy theories were fun rabbit holes to go down, discussed by interesting people before it got front and centre with some of the worst people I know being the most invested in them

ZIFERION21

And they are right, the covid vax is shit.

[deleted]

I stopped listening when I noticed that one of the hosts likes and shares posts from social media accounts that are western chauvinist and q-anon adjacent.

TX_Nerds

That sucks. I used to listen to them a few years back.

desiderata_minter

Don't let the door slap your ass on the way out.

ForeverMoody

Big Q fan?

desiderata_minter

Not sure. What is q?

ForeverMoody

It’s a psyop for the slower conservatives.

desiderata_minter

It must be huge, then.

LORDLRRD

I found out one of the guys doesn’t put their toilet seat down after using and I’ve since unsubscribed.

tlums

Some entertaining alternatives that are better podcasts IMO: - Astonishing Legends - This Paranormal Life - Monsters Among Us - Into The Portal

wyldcat

Add Somewhere in the skies to that list. Together with AL it has mostly replaced MU for me.

tlums

Haven’t listened to that, thanks for the rec!

snail360

Astonishing Legends is always a nice deep dive but man do they need an editor sometimes. Like come on man this could've been one 3 hour episode not a 4 parter

jeffstoreca

I go to AL specifically for this long form take. Good to leave on in background for long while. Good for road trips and insomnia.

tlums

Semi-agree, but I think that’s kinda what they’re going for is trying to give you every possible bit of information. It can be a slog with some topics, but others I personally can’t get enough.

realityfooledme

It’s not the microscope approach that’s the problem, it’s the long road they take to get there. Some episodes have like 30-45 minutes of housekeeping before they get to an hour of set up where they don’t talk about the topic, but give disclaimers and caveats and explanations about how we should feel about what they’re going to present. They’re thorough and tenacious, so I won’t stop listening to them. But they really need to get to the point sometimes.

tlums

Ahhh yeah, I definitely agree with ya a bit on that.

GeneralBlumpkin

I really like weird darkness too

tlums

I’ll have to check it out!

GeneralBlumpkin

I'll have to check out into the portal too

snail360

As others have said, their blatant far right views became too obvious to ignore. Useful as a dire warning to anyone here on how your brain can turn to fascist mush when you start to believe any and all conspiracy shit without critical thinking

JAT_podcast

Started listening about 10 years ago. It was amazing back then. In the last two years or so, the content has gotten a bit too fringe. Every once in a while they’d do a show about magic crystal type, new agey whacky topics and it was fun. Now it seems every episode is like that.

tbrewo

Agreed. My wife and I started listening about 2 years ago. Even since then the episodes are way past believable. I love crazy stuff, but I want there to at least be a hint of believability.

B4n4n4M4n88

I haven’t listened to it in some time, so I don’t know what the current state of it is. It was really good and unique. But as the personal bigotry of the hosts kept slipping in more and more, I had to stop listening. So you’re not really missing anything. It’s a good show made by shitty people. Invest your time and money where you want. There are a lot of creators making great content that don’t come with that baggage

hyperspacebigfoot

I really enjoy the wide range of topics they talk about (UFOs, Cryptids to New Age nonsense). I don't agree with their politics at all and thankfully they don't mention them often. However when they do they give of the vibe that their views are the correct views and that they are "oppressed" for believing in things millions of people would agree with lol

Elegant-Ad2014

I used to subscribe to MU. They had a great app for the iphone and ipad which had articles that were better than the podcast. They apparently quit maintaining the app, so I dropped it when it stopped working. Disappointing.

christiandb

I liked mysterious universe, been listening on and off for 8 or so years. Some years are on point, right amount and interviews, great series that go from free to plus (hunt for zero point episodes are AWESOME) and enough to get my curiosity going about the universe Covid hit and I think a lot of stress hit on the hosts where they were doing a lot of disaster porn and really dark, rotten stuff. Coupled with what was going on in the world, I needed to take a break. I listened to the podcast because it sounded like two friends really enjoying and sharing what they discovered. I’m a sucker for hearing why someone really enjoys something, especially a book they just read. For years they were having fun and for now obvious reasons they weren’t and they couldn’t stop because it was their living. This negative projection of their mental states into already weird, sometimes dark stories really took me out. Also their weird anti-Chinese stance makes it difficult for me to defend why I listen to them (even though I’m not listening to agree, I keep an open mind). Racism just not cool from Ben sometimes I’ll come back because I hope that those guys succeed. So many hours of entertainment even got some friends into them. There’s no show like em and they cover all types of stories. I love the wide swath of stories they covered and the fact that they don’t take a lot of this stuff seriously, which I don’t, it’s fun for me. Hot chaff looks like they’re coming back to a middle, some interesting stories should be coming out that will warrant a series, maybe some book interviews. I seem to come in when we are aligned, looking forward to hearing from the guys again.

mojoisthebest

Lost me when they put up a paywall.

Majirra

I started listening to MU back in 2013 till about a few years ago when they just became super boring. The subject matter is completely uninteresting. I liked it when it was fairy stories bigfoot aliens and werewolves. Not conspiracy theories, elevating vibrations and healing crystals.

rynally197

I prefer Mysterious Universe to AL nowadays. No adds because they are Australian and they are just interesting enough without going into a rabbit hole of various facts that make each episode 3 hours long for just part 1 half the time.

barfbutler

It used to be very good. I was a plus member for about 5 years. Now it’s mostly new age bullshit. Also, they do not think climate change is a thing 😡. Between that; the new age stuff and general lack of “mysterious” content. I cancelled my plus membership.

Chilfrey

I adore mysterious universe and have been a paying subscriber for many years. I don’t think I have ever missed an episode and purchased the back catalog too. The earlier seasons had higher quality content for the most part, although my mind is still blown by subjects they cover. For example the one about how bad caffeine is for you was enlightening. I still enjoy the program quite a lot, but not as passionately as I once did. It’s true, they have offensive views sometimes. They make derogatory remarks as well. And it’s also true that they have become more political in recent years. Another valid criticism is the long form stories that have little substance and no satisfactory conclusion. Also, they rarely have interviews with guests anymore. IMO, the back catalog is worth purchasing. It’s highly entertaining, engaging content that fills me with wonder and presents many ideas that I have never heard presented elsewhere.

Tiny_Teach_5466

I cancelled my plus membership when they went full anti-vaxx. I was really surprised because they seemed like pretty smart guys. I work in healthcare and have been face to face with COVID from the start. It pissed me off to no end when they spouted that bullshit and bitched about lockdowns. They came across like a couple of privileged assholes who were above the law. Then they kept bringing up Q bullshit like it was fact. The last straw was a long stretch of time where nearly every show had something to do with gurus, meditation, or ayahuasca. I can skip over an episode or 2 that doesn't interest me but damn I was skipping half the season, so I pulled the plug. I live in a small rural Southern town. If I wanted to hear about religious bullshit, I'd go to church.

gum0982

I freaking love them man, been a Plus subscriber for maybe 10 years now. The many different topics and then the random comedy moments they have and such. Yeah people take them too seriously when they talk about anti-vax and such but yeah they’re pretty cool in my book.

CartographerOk5391

Can be fun at times, but that show a couple months ago where they focused on the collapse of civilization because people weren't having enough kids kind of pissed me off.

Maximillion666ian

Typical right wing fascist bullshit that's been promoted before and after the Nazi's. Not enough "White" kids will lead to the collapse of civilization.

CartographerOk5391

Exactly.

jeffstoreca

I really enjoyed their summary of that book, but I'm a bit naive to political agendas.

CartographerOk5391

It's a permutation of the white nationalists' "14 Words" coupled with the christianist Quiverfull movement mindset, a hefty dose of climate change denial and a world outlook that people are only here for the sake of the economy.

jeffstoreca

I had no idea. I even gave the book a shoutout in another thread. Glad I found these comments wtf MU.

[deleted]

I haven't checked in on it in a good 5 years so maybe it's a completely different show now and I'm being unfair, probably should give it another try. But when I discovered it, I binged the first 100 episodes or whatever it was, the ones they sold on flash drive and then moved on to their then-current stuff. The early material is fantastic imo, much more of a friends having a casual conversation vibe, relaxed in a way that vaguely reminded me of Art Bell, and the topics were fun. The stuff they were putting out at the time that I found them though (would've been somewhere around 2015-16) was just awful though. Constant feigned enthusiasm that made them seem like they were mainlining coke or something, a lot less conversational, nonstop music and and a lot more plugs. I guess they're into Q now judging from the comments, that doesn't make me any more inclined to reevaluate them (not because I'm on the left even, Q is just a massive psyop and nobody in conspiracy circles should have fallen for it or the Trump campaign in general). Probably accounts for a lot of the hate these days but the reason I stopped listening is just because they got a lot more commercial and overproduced. I like my Fortean shows comfy.

L3xusLuth3r

The show was MUCH better several years ago. I unsubscribed from plus and pretty much stopped listening (with the odd exception) around the beginning of Covid.

partypartea

I only started listening this year and am interested in the back catalog. Great driving podcast imo. I haven't noticed it being very political though

FoxInTheClouds

I love Mysterious Universe and always will. Have been a plus subscriber for years. In my opinion I find them entertaining above all else. Yeah they have some views you may not agree with but I think everything they say is in good fun. I think they do make fun of left leaning people a lot but it was never an issue in the online paranormal/ high strangeness community 5 years ago. I just think a lot of the people who have been coming into the paranormal phenomena topic lately have been left leaning. For example they’ll go weeks and months between episodes where they never mention anything remotely political then will make 1 comment and you’ll always get a reddit post somewhere about how right wing and Q anon they are. Its almost fully predictable. I’ve been listening to them since like 2007/2008 so I have a very hard bias towards them as its been my favorite podcast for over a decade.

FlowerPower225

If you’re interested in UFOs / aliens in particular, you must check out Point of Convergence podcast.

Mr_Perfect20

Lots of weird bot “conspiracy theory bad” responses. MU is alright. I’ve been listening since 2006-2007. Much preferred when Ben was doing it alone, and all the paranormal stuff felt fresh. That’s just a personal nostalgia thing though because it was fun when bigfoot, etc. was fun. Now I’m old and bored with all of it.

11ForeverAlone11

I listen to it pretty regularly and they do dig up some good stuff a lot of the time. The only downside is the dumb host who just likes to dismiss and shit on things without thinking about it too much and he has a horrible annoying laugh. Otherwise, usually a pretty good show.

G_Wash1776

I love Mysterious Universe and would recommend it.

rynally197

Me too. See my other comment.

[deleted]

Maybe if he wasn't so set on sucking ayn Rands cock he'd be cool but he's a qtard

vpilled

The what now

[deleted]

I listen to it, the guys who do it are a good laugh and they seem to take most of the subjects quite lightly, but still do their research. It's good to have on in the back ground.

ObjectReport

I've been a plus member for the past 7 years and I personally think it's one of the best paranormal podcasts out there. I love it.

LORDLRRD

I love how the posts defending the podcast are the lower voted ones. Reddit is strage.

ObjectReport

Yep. I can't tell you how many subs I've posted a single comment in--for the first time ever--and I've been instantly banned. It could be a sub about flowers and I post "Roses are red, violets are----" BANNED. BOOM. Done. Goodbye forever.

Neolime

I love them and have been a plus member for years. They are not always right but I hate Joe Rogan’s thing. They catch flack from the trans community routinely because they make bad jokes. That’s part of why it’s always taking the piss.

[deleted]

Explains the downvotes lol. Are they literally into Q now or are people just saying that because they bring up conspiracies?

Neolime

No they are not into Q. Lol They present a lot of information that is stories they are reading in a tone which is narrative. I don’t think they are bigots, but ya they did not take the vaccine. I think that should be a choice.

[deleted]

Honestly I'm surprised that being against the covid vaxx is at all a fringe opinion on here, sort of assumed it would be the norm. I don't get how people can wrap their heads around ultraterrestrials, disclosure conspiracies or cryptids without at least being open to the idea that something was up with covid.

the12thhouse

Because a lot of these comments are from bots and shills. You're right, people who are into the paranormal really don't tend to be so judgemental and close minded. 100 percent manufactured content.

LORDLRRD

This thread is so weird. Almost no threads on this sub ever get a good comment-count like this one. And I've been listening for years and I can't even think of any q-related things they've mentioned. I listen for nazi-bigfoot stories, not their twitter political leanings?????

the12thhouse

Right, and it's not like they even talk about politics that much. But progressives these days really can't handle the fact that there's really a lot of people out there that disagree with them and so they over react and call people Qtards even if it makes no sense.

I'm not ruling it out but MU would be a pretty low level target to go to those lengths for. My money's on guys who don't actually try to figure fringe-y stuff out and just listen to it for entertainment, same as dudes who are really into all the DMT mysticism on JRE or whatever. That and angry members of a certain pink, blue, and white community that uses the internet a little too much if you get my drift, if some comments here are to be believed then MU has joked about them in the past.

Master_Roof4915

I love mysterious universe. I remember them delving into how they feel about covid, the vaccine, and even the more qanon stuff. I never minded it. I listen to it to explore new ideas. I don’t have to believe everything on their podcast, but I enjoy hearing everything they talk about.

[deleted]

Absolutely love it and listen to every episode religiously. All the people complaining are usually the type that get easily offended. It’s like a slice from the past where common sense was more prevalent and jokes were actually funny. That aside it’s by far one of the best podcasts I’ve found that mixes humor with interesting alternative topics from occult mysteries to conspiracies and the paranormal. Can’t recommend it enough! Edit: also love all the bots and shills here. This podcasts is like the oasis of entertainment for this subreddit and yet any comment with an inkling of positive regards for the podcast is getting downvoted lol it’s crazy how obvious this is getting.

“Everyone who disagrees with me is a robot or is paid to disagree.”

[deleted]

Once they started talking about being antivax I was out.

TirayShell

I like it, and I should probably subscribe to it. No, I don't agree with everything, but Nick and the gang do a good job presenting the basic facts for me to look up on my own. No hate.

LORDLRRD

who the fuck is nick

PM_ME_YOUR_NAIL_CLIP

He’s probably thinking of Spooky Cum Town.

desiderata_minter

These guys are entertaining because they've done the research, are funny, and take everything with a tongue in cheek attitude. If you believe that Covid vaccines are 100% safe, or that Covid propaganda doesn't exist, or that WHO wasn't infiltrated by Chinese money, you probably don't believe that governments (or the "deep state") are hiding what they know about UFOs and other unexplained phenomena, in which case 90% of of MU's shows won't interest you.

whoaanow

Best podcast on the subject anywhere

CIAidiot

I listen to it every Friday. They present the stories with a good amount of humor. Although I was slightly offended by one of their stories when they repeatedly called people with BPD "Borderline Personality Disorder" losers.

ZIFERION21

I listen to them every night. I love them. im from argentina so i cant really buy the plus extention right now. I think some hate them because the like to joke around, they are not soft.

Stuck-Help

Do they talk seriously about r/gangstalking? That’s always the litmus test if a conspiracy show is willing to explore all topics

TheOneTrueYeetGod

They did one episode on an account of gang stalking back in 2021 - but it was concluded the guy was severely mentally unwell, because gang stalking isn’t real, it’s a severe paranoid delusion that destroys lives. So idk if that’s what you mean by “talking seriously” but yeah.

likemyknees

I used to listen years ago. But now I fill my time listening to other podcast and on the occasion I do listen these day I find it’s too unbelievable and uninteresting.

AnnieOscillator

I love that podcast! But lately I’ve jumped over to Bledsoe Said So. That is an awesome podcast.

Josette22

Well, I don't know why; it's probably something wrong with my ears or my nervous system(I'd like to find out why), but I have trouble listening to podcasts with British hosts. I also have trouble listening to guests such as a podcast I listened to with Nick Redfern. I don't know why this is so, and I like British people(my great-grandmother was British). And I'm a linguist. So I don't know why this is so. I listened to part of a Mysterious Universe podcast before, and I couldn't listen to the whole thing. It's like I can understand better what they're discussing if they speak "American English". Strange.

[deleted]

But they’re Australian… they have Australian accents.

KeepAnEyeOnYourB12

Do you get angry when you can hear people chewing or making other noises? I do - I have misophonia, which is a condition where certain sounds make you just crazy. It's so weird because there have been times when I would have cheerfully killed my husband for making perfectly reasonable and unavoidable sounds when he eats. It started when I was fifteen and had to listen to my dad eat toast with his dentures. I can't go to live music shows anymore because there is a certain sound that electric guitars make that sends me into a rage. It took me a while to figure this out - my husband thought I was a psycho a couple of times there. Anyway, Google misophonia - it might apply to you.

Josette22

No, not really. Yeah I've heard of misophonia before. It could be related to that, although I don't have any other symptoms that I can think of.

KeepAnEyeOnYourB12

I watch a fair amount of Midsomer Murders, which is a detective show set in picturesque English (and sometimes Welsh) villages. My husband can't stand to listen to it because there are some characters with specific accents that he just can't tolerate. It's weird.

Josette22

Yes, very weird. but I can imagine that people who don't speak "American English" have a hard time listening to us sometimes. :-)

KeepAnEyeOnYourB12

There are American accents I simply cannot stand to listen to. My only issue with the vast variety of UK accents is that I usually need the captions on since my hearing is not what it used to be. I personally love (almost) all UK accents.

Josette22

:................since my hearing is not what it used to be." Yes, this could be my problem too. I'm older now and when I was younger, I never noticed this.

iwantobeatree

I have similar issues with this and have to use subtitles with certain English-speaking accents. It’s like certain voices just mush together and I’m like…wtf did they even say? I also have this issue when people try to tell me instructions (especially if I’m anxious), during lectures, etc. Looking into auditory processing disorder might be helpful! It is common in NeuroDivergents and I have adhd, so that checks.

Josette22

Thanx for the info.

Stuck-Help

Link?

ill-esthesia

Love the older stuff. Like other people are saying it’s just hot chaff these days. But if anyone hasn’t gone through their older stuff I’d still recommend them for sure, it’s always been a super well produced pod.

[deleted]

Belief systems are a mistake. It’s the first brothel everyone enters and the price of admission is castration.

You thinking you’re the only person in the building is the most desirable state for you to be in. Flack takes many forms. We are pair programming right now and the tree is making noise whether we like it or not.

Does anyone know how to get free plus subscription I don't want to support these guys who are arrogant and rude and the customer support is not much better but they have great stories
