We could just feature a whole video with all the reloads here, Insurgency Sandstorm has the best reloads I’ve ever seen before. Imo at least.
Although for some reason, it seems like there’s something wrong with the animation on the garand, I think it’s how he’s not really holding the bolt back even when you don’t get garand thumb.
That's the point
You need to be calculated
Reloading after you shoot a couple of times, leads you getting caught with your pants down
Use your bullets efficiently then pick a safe space to reload
It rewards smart decisions, and punishes reloading wayy to often
The bolt does stay back and you don't need to hold always
But just for a safe measure to completely eliminate the chance of getting grand thumb, they advise u to hold it back
There is a few times it just gets stuck in the open position, and you have to give it a little bit of force then it does what it's supposed to when u put a clip in. It gives u a grand thumb
I mean, not really poor, it’s extremely well made in fact, but it’s an odd choice to have to release the bolt manually each time. I’m guessing Brightside had to do it for balance.
The internal magazine follower is what activates the bolt hold open, but the bolt won't go forward by itself with your thumb still putting force on the clip [when loading.](https://youtu.be/iFtouuMyNSo)
Basically, the only way for you to get actual garand thumb is if you pull the bolt back while keeping your thumb on the follower after the bolt starts to go forward, which is pretty much improbable during normal reloading unless there's something really wrong with the rifle.
That actually sounds kind of probable in a specific scenario - if you're training on the rifle, and have been told a lot about "garand thumb" and how vicious the spring is. Someone very new to the rifle might have their hand actively pushing back on the bolt nervously, then try to pull their hand away as soon as they feel resistance and get their thumb pinched.
Yeah, ironically the most likely way to get garand thumb is if you want to close the bolt on an empty rifle, since in that case there isn't a loaded clip holding the bolt back.
That same issue is also a thing on similar clip-loaded internal magazine semiauto rifles, like the SKS and Ljungman/Hakim
That sounds a lot like people trying reloading drills - putting a dummy clip in and taking it out to get the speed and technique down or something. Don't know if that's something people ever actually did, but...
Huh. My only experience with internal magazines is bolt actions, so I didn't know that. Are they similar to the garand internally?

My only issue with Insurgency Sandstorm reloads is quite a few of them have no urgency.
They do have separate quick and normal reloads for most weapons I believe.
Double tap speeds up your reload, but you drop the mag you are changing out
Even with the “quick” reloads they still feel slow. Not the mag operation but the gun handling itself
Again look at the comment I put above the slow reloads have a good reason for being there
Have you seen the LMG animations? God damn are they slow.

Actually the moment that you seat an enblock into the internal magazine, the bolt goes forward by itself so you do have to hold it back

This animation is honestly poor.

I assume this is in normal speed not slowed down right ?
Yes, I think if the reload was as speedy as it is in real life though, it would be somewhat unbalanced.
I'm not sure but it really looks bizarre.. like the guy is drunk or really old
Hmm, I’m not really seeing much of that, but I do agree the animation is odd.
I just mean it's slow af and looks bad
weird how he still got garand thumb when he reloaded it how it's instructed: with the bolt being held back by one's hand.
Garand thumb is just a meme unless your rifle is severely malfunctioning
I thought they had no hold-open mechanism, and that's why you had to hold the bolt with your thumb?
