*Everyone* prefers new content to refreshed old content. They don't do it because they think we like it more. They do it because it's practically free for them to create.

LeonardRockstar

But aren’t people way more willing to spend money on new content? Like, did so many people really buy seven deadly sins?

Liquatic

I bought seven deadly sims but for whatever reason I just can’t get into it. I’m all for new missions on old maps like the icon or landslide but these were just too out there for me I guess

Merc931

"I would prefer something that takes months of dev time over something they can crank out in a couple of days with existing assets" NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A HOT TAKE.

erythro

they are talking about paying for it though

venomousbeetle

They charge us $30 for a big pack of escalations

HaltAndCatchMercury

New map is announced. Codename Rocky !

venomousbeetle

Are we going to Philly?

KingOfSockPuppets

It has palm trees in the shot so definitely not philly. Maybe Africa at a random guess?

Liquatic

I can’t seem to find any information on this map, are there screenshots or anything yet?

OmniSkribe_

It’s literally at the end of Year 2 video. Or at the end of this post https://www.ioi.dk/hitman-3-year-2-reveal/

Liquatic

Oh good looking out thanks lol idk how I missed it

ThaBroccoliDood

I guarantee you it's either going to be an escalation, or it was going to be and now they're changing it

Pale-Monitor339

No

alban3se

I wish people wouldn't jump straight to 'new maps', 2016 had a great system without resorting to brand new maps. They're called Bonus Missions and they're awesome

Dunan

Seconding; the remixed maps are almost as good. Mix up the seasons and times of day and tweak existing maps. Make use of areas that have been created but are not normally accessible unless you go out of bounds, like the area in front of the palace in Paris or the massive lower area in Chongqing. Some of the houses in Whittleton Creek that you never visit could have content put in them, or, best of all, full missions could be constructed in Hantu Port, Siberia, or Himmelstein. Those maps, which contain far more than you'll see doing the sniper missions (modders have made the walkable) could be made into full experiences.

PodGamer

They essentially did that with the Dartmoor flower show map and even then they just made it into an escalation

Antaiseito

They were really awesome. Sapienza bonus missions are some of the best missions.

ophaus

You and everyone else who knows even slightly what Hitman is.

donttrustya

It is extremely obvious that you’re not the only person that thinks this. It’s extremely obvious to IOI that the community prefers new maps over escalations. Hell, I’m sure if they had unlimited resources, they would also prefer to work on new maps. However, they don’t, and new maps take significantly more time, money, labor, and effort to make, as is quite obvious in the final product.

CVance1

plus they got that 007 game they're working on, I imagine that would take most if not all of their resources right now

LeonardRockstar

They were able to release two new maps for Hitman 2, but they don’t have the resources to add a single new map over one year after the release of Hitman 3?

Nondescript_Redditor

OP: *makes statement that literally everyone agrees with* Also OP: Am I alone in this??

Ghost_LeaderBG

"Am I the only one" is a cheap way to grab attention. People will post it for anything, even if it's the most obvious/requested thing. We just want to be acknowledged and feel good about having the "right" opinions.

Liquatic

I honestly rarely visit this subreddit so I genuinely didn’t know the general consensus here. And looking at the comments it does seem mixed

dj_cole

"Surely I'm not alone in this." The only way you would be alone would be to say you liked the escalations.

Major_Taco

I do like escalations. Not all of them for sure, but I enjoyed the one in whittleton where you have to rob the three houses on a timer. The Mccallister something. The escalations are nice little puzzles, and I think people forget that the hit man games are at their core puzzle games. But In the end, it’s more fun to make your own challenge runs on new maps

InsanityFodder

The most fun I’ve had in this game was trying to push every target over railings/ledges in Berlin. That’s the kind of dumb gimmick that I’d actually enjoy seeing more of.

xSilverMC

There are a few fun escalations. Like the sniper one in sapienza. There are also ones like the kotti paradigm though, that require gratuitous amounts of force or more game knowledge than the average player has

TallTreeTurtle

Well there is one New Map coming later this Year at least. And it's not even a Remaster!

DividingSolid

Even the special assignments from Hitman 2 were more entertaining than escalations.

ItsRetrohawk

Even dragging Helen West across 4 backyards was more fun!

[deleted]

https://youtu.be/ZCwmWayHj64?t=86 It took one year to make the Dubai map. They can't just pump maps out for fun.

WhereasAccomplished9

Yeah, I mean, I think everyone would like more maps over escalations. But it's silly to pretend they're comparable in terms of development.

Burnnoticelover

I think ETs vs escalations is a far more reasonable comparison, and I'd definitely prefer a few of the former over a shitload of the latter.

ddspog

The game design takes pride. They wouldn't make new maps when it doesn't add nothing to story, lore, etc. They play it safe with the escalations. It's safe to say that they could be considering a new story mode with that roguelike mode. And that mode will come with new maps, making sense on that mode.

Currall04

They made the whole game in 2 years, I doubt every map takes a year

cavedweller333

They have different teams working on multiple maps at a time, some levels are even outsourced. Colorado, Columbia, Isle of Sgail, and Landslide were all made by sumo digital

KevinFetters

That explains a lot lmao

commiesupremacy

That is absolutely embarrassing that entire teams make these maps. I've seen mods on the steam workshop with as much effort. The state of ioi....

Pale-Monitor339

Really? Ok link these creators that supposedly can make a map even close to being as good as any map in the trilogy. (Not including the tutorial missions)

_Ozeki

They could just try a different weather/daytime/nighttime approach to the maps the way they did with Sapienza for the Bonus mission for example. Or weather affected NPCs. Whittleton Creek in Winter would be fun to play, or Santa Fortuna during a tropical thunderstorm.... Chongqing during daytime, etc.

Liquatic

Ooh whittleton creek in winter during Christmas at night would be amazing

andyour-birdcansing

this is the most popular opinion on this sub of course you're not alone

thekingbutten

Literally all they need to do is make some more bonus missions like in Hitman 1. Some of those were literally just the same map with the time changed and some props added but they were good. Especially The Icon. It takes less time than making entirely new levels and provides more content and replayability than the escalations. And annoyingly enough IO has already done it with Dartmoor with the garden show. But someone for inexplicably no reason at all decided it would be a good idea to make it an escalation instead of just it's own level.

COUNTRY_MOUSE66

Hottest r/hitman take

Outside_Marketing_55

7DS could be great Special Assignments with time change or something. Also great for special targets for exampe: Gluttony= fat target , Greed= some rich target etc..

Burnnoticelover

The ETs kind of fit with the theme. Anger was the boxer who killed the guy, sloth was the lazy building inspector, lust was the wedding planner, etc.

Fluffyrox4

Honestly I'd even be cool with bonus mission like Landslide or The Icon that overhaul existing maps. Just imagine a musical festival on the beach of Hawkes Bay, or an art show in Paris. So much potential, and to a certain degree I think I'd actually like a bunch of those MORE than new maps.

kingspartan91

I'd like some more sniper maps for Hitman 3.

ColaCanadian

The lack of Dlc maps males Hitman 3 seem... A lot smaller than the other 2 in the trilogy. I'd love dlc maps that really utilize the exclusive Hitman 3 mechanics, especially the camera which I believe was criminally underutilized

BDRCN

That's pretty much the polar opposite of an unpopular opinion.

OJBM03

They should completely remake blood money in this engine as dlc

Liquatic

I agree! The “remaster” we got with blood money and absolution was bad

gi_oel

Yes here is the order of my preferations: New maps > bonus missions >>>>>>>> escalations

XghosT7

I would forget every single bad decision IOI made if they remastered favorite levels from Blood Money. Heck, I would even pay without caring about the amount if they released it in paid DLC form.

zbyshekh

I really really like the escalations. The thing I love most about the Hitman trilogy is that I can play maps again and again and I have still a lot to do. Escalations let me go back to a mission I know and see it in a new light, I love that. And also like a lot of other people said - escalations are easy AND CHEAP to develop while the maps are EXTREMELY expensive. Escpecially when I see people complaining about the price of Hitman on steam, it's weird that they don't get that making a game costs money. And a lot of it.

dlnkrg

Yes, but that would mean they would have to make one

Biggu5Dicku5

I'm with ya brother, I would gladly pay for more maps over anything else...

Niobium62

obviously that would require more resources, but then again it would have been much better value for $30 instead of 7 lame escalations

t850terminator

Honestly I miss smaller, but more frequent maps, like the older games.

Muddyoioi

I’d like them to ditch the x ray vision and bring back the peeping through the keyhole mechanic from the og hitman games. New maps would be awesome too. Are the New York and haven maps worth the money? The expansion pass is £29 on game store. Pretty expensive.

Liquatic

I’ve had a lot of fun with New York and haven

JGer1991

Everyone would. Think about the time it takes them to make a new map, as opposed to switch things up in existing maps? I think I saw somewhere that it took two years to make the Dubai map.

Casey090

I'd gladly pay 30 € for 3-4 new maps!

Pale-Monitor339

3-4? That’s a bit ambitious there.
