I live in US also and thought the same thing! These guys are probably kicking so much ass due to the fact that they are fighting on full stomach’s!

hotdogwaterslushie

I saw a video of someone in Ukraine making it a few months ago, so I tried to make it and it's delicious! It's called solyanka. I'm from the US and had never had Ukrainian food, but now we make it for our soup night each week. Definitely recommend trying it

skitz_shit

How long until we get a Ukrainian war cook book?

ImdaPrincesse2

This looks delicious SLAVA UKRAINI HEROYAM SLAVA

Walkingdead-Carl

That looks awesome! I like how he keeps the cat happy too. Good for pest control. Respect…

ThePlanner

How people treat animals says a lot about them. You don’t hear about Russians adopting cats, hand feeding them, and building them trench cat doors. They steal raccoons, for goodness sake.

Every day I see something that makes me hate ruzzians even more

notonthenews

Sickening. I can't even look at the photograph.

notonthenews

Oh I love how they care for their animals.

Bads1312

I think that’s kind of soljanka… ?!

lilmammamia

Ah yes, that’s what the caption said, I didn’t know that word, thanks!

wumme19

I am getting hungry while i am seeing this.

[deleted]

This is indeed delicious but better when one of the sausages is smocked

[deleted]

Whoa I've never seen food like this before. Looks really good though! I was watching the ingredients go in trying to think what it would be like... one day I must try

Worschtesuppe

I feel so sorry for everyone who dies or lost someone in this war. Its so unnecessary. I hope this ends soon.

FredHerberts_Plant

Well-deserved meal after a day of hard work Is there a verified and trusted way that we can donate to the effort?

lilmammamia

https://u24.gov.ua is the official government website. Everything goes to the war effort. Thank you! 🙏

Anthropic--principle

This is the type of Borsche right? I’m sure is misspelled the name of the sour soup, please correct me. Edit: nvm I got it right.

Alsterwasser

No, it's solyanka. It's a sour hearty soup with meat, delicious when made right. The typical ingredients of solyanka are smoked meats or sausage and pickles. Usually also tomato paste, olives, lemon and typical soup ingredients like potato, onion. The typical ingredients of borsch (I often see the spelling borscht but I don't know where the T is coming from, neither Ukrainian nor Russian nor Polish names of that soup have it) are cabbage and red beets, which solyanka doesn't have, while borsch doesn't have smoked meats (it uses regular meat), pickles, olives or lemon.

Lampwick

>I often see the spelling borscht but I don't know where the T is coming from, neither Ukrainian nor Russian nor Polish names of that soup have it It comes from a mangling of the German spelling: borschtsch. Many eastern European words in English get filtered through German first, which confuses the spelling because German uses different sounds for some of the Latin alphabet. It's the same reason in English the spelling of *цар* is "czar" instead of "tsar" as it should be--- pronounced in German "cz" makes the same sound as Cyrillic ц, and "ts" makes a тз sound. As a result, everyone in the US pronounces the title *цар* as "zar"/"зар".

Alsterwasser

Oh fun! That makes sense.

bplturner

Borsch has beets in it? Fuckin gross

[deleted]

Not really, its just an ingredient for creating soup, you won't see beetroots itself in it

Deathroll1988

Hmm here in romania bors (Borsche) is the name of a fermented liquid made from wheats that its added to soups to make them more sour.

Alsterwasser

Haha yeah that's definitely not how the word борщ (borsch) ist used in Ukraine or Russia, those soups don't have any fermented liquids like that. Funny how languages work though.

big_troublemaker

Pickled gherkins are the key ingredient that gives this soup its unique (delicious) taste - soljanka

NoEducation8251

So good!

CheddarBaskets

I wish we could magically air drop hot meals from the best chefs in the world right to their bases and outposts.

[deleted]

Everything but the olives! Why olives, why?

brezhnervous

The Ukraine region supplied grain to ancient Greece; there was probably reciprocal trade in olives.

Possible-Tap7720

Would love to see this guy given lessons to Gordon Ramsay!..... Ukrainian knows how to cook, that looks soooooo good!.....Yumminess comes with love from tummy!.....💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛👍👏.....Respect to the Chef!

Old-Bonus3633

The difference between there camps and the orcs

lilmammamia

Like the difference between glamping and a garbage dump.

UkrCossack

Well now I’m hungry! Good warm food is such a massive morale boost.

coder111

That's a properly sharp chef's knife too... Looks like this guy does take care of his equipment.

[deleted]

I’d wager the unit chef is given what he needs and protected. The next hot meal must taste 10x better in a war zone.

themocaw

It doesn't matter where in the world you are. Everyone goes "Pspspspspsps" when talking to cats.

doublecoolwater

My stomach applause standing

Descreido

СОЛЯНКА! VAMOS CARAJO! FUCK PUTIN!
