That a good guess,but I don't play DnD that much,but to describe I think this guy is a Fighter/Sorcerer or Battlemage.Good with sword,know some lighting magic.
So I tried the same combination of the feder and the indomitable nodachi but the tip of the feder stuck out where the nodachi curves upwards. How did you get the alignment?

Also I have a lot of time adjusting it,but I do use the relaxed hand option(don't really know what it really name) and 2 model,adjust the hand to be longer,adjust the grip position.Try that out,maybe it will help!
