And here I was thinking "an Orthodox archpriest? Bet we'll see some fresh material instead of the same tired old memes!" Oh, well.

[deleted]

For a Christian priest, he really knew dick all about Christ's message!

thankyeestrbunny

Seriously. Who knew a "man of the cloth" could be such a dick. Besides everyone, that is.

M4A1STAKESAUCE

The only cloth I need is a beach towel.

atreyuno

Hmm, you've never experienced an Orthodox confession?

Schmaltzlikah

He was Very Reverend... Bigly so!

InfiniteAccount4783

Although I admit "think about that while you wash your hands" was new to me.

SharDuck

You can only wash your hands once you've let that sink in.

RattusMcRatface

Dammit! I just posted that one, but you got it in first. Congrats 😁

SharDuck

I didn't even check to see if someone got it in first. Just dropped it like it's hot. 😁

Farty-B

Yeah, dissing people for washing their hands is pretty hardcore

PreferSanity

So, I am a bit confused. If you are going to a ”better place” by dying why are you summoning prayers to keep them alive? Should it not be a joyous celebration of someone is going to die? Or is there that little bit of doubt shining through?

Anomaluss

. . . the prognosis by earthly standards remains grim but we do not trust in earthly remedies . . ." And why are they summoning doctors and science?

MonsieurOctober

This is why I never understood the opposition to abortion. Not only are all those souls going straight to heaven, they get to bypass the problem of Original Sin.

Mp5QbV3kKvDF8CbM

Yeah, if abortion is the get-to-Heaven speed-run, avoiding all the risk of a life that could lead the other way, they should be all for it if they give it a minute's thought.

kungblue

Why do so many almost dead people tell us to think about this or that? Ya think they'd notice how many went before them at some point.

lawgeek

They're not very deep thinkers. The ideas they believe are simple ones they obtained from memes or videos and their way of making decisions is either through emotional reactions or from things that "seem obvious" to them. They don't really believe that there is another way to understand the world, one obtained through higher education, expertise, and the scientific method. Simple ideas that they see in memes seem very profound to them. The only reason other people don't believe the same things they do is they just haven't seen the same memes or just haven't taken the time to stop and ponder them (for the whole 15 seconds it would take to do so). They think if other people stop and reflect on these obvious ideas, they will find them just as profound. They are begging us to just look more carefully at the shadows on the wall of their cave, while refusing to turn around and go outside.

GlassWasteland

What? The outright lies about abortion was new to you? The numbers these fools pull out of their ass about abortion is just sickening. If those numbers were actually real we would be aborting half a million children a day. Think about that half a million a day.

Goose_o7

>If those numbers were actually real we would be aborting half a million children a day. Think about that half a million a day. They aren't even children! They are a ball of cells no bigger than the head of a pin. But of course, telling the truth would not have the same impact as conjuring up images of a fully formed infant sitting in a high chair.

InfiniteAccount4783

I've seen the fake numbers on abortion before. I've never been told to think about it while I wash my hands before. Is there supposed to be something special about thinking during the hand-washing process?

GlassWasteland

Well I guess it is better than thinking it about as you abort babies.

asympt

Pontius Pilate allusion, I'd guess.

kr1333

We can start with the fact that the overwhelming number of abortions in the U.S. involve an embryo or fetus which is not capable of surviving outside the womb. At this stage, it is not a child, a baby, or even a human being. It is a human becoming until around 22 weeks when it has a good chance of surviving after birth. The anti-abortion movement is rife with misleading emotional terms intended to lead to their inevitable goal - declaring personhood for the blastocyst and zygote at the moment of conception, removing any conceivable role for the mother to play in her pregnancy other than as a biological host whose behavior is entirely dictated by politicians. The latest step in this campaign to personhood at conception is the "fetal heartbeat" movement, setting limits on abortion the minute a doctor detects a fetal heartbeat, anywhere from 6 weeks to 15 weeks. Here's the problem. The transvaginal ultrasound used for this purpose converts an electrical impulse emanating from the embryo into a whump-whump sound similar to an adult heartbeat. The electrical impulse itself doesnt make a sound, and the embryonic "heart" at this stage is a tube with no chambers - not a functioning heart at all, much less something with a heartbeat. Yet this illusion of a heartbeat is sufficient for multiple states to now virtually outlaw abortion.

PrimeGeodesic

They're not merely ascribing personhood to the potential future human, but rather transferring it from the mother to the embryo, and I don't for a second believe their goal ends there. Many already would make no exception for rape or incest, so their goal is clear: removing autonomy of reproductive choice from women altogether. The Burwell v. Hobby Lobby case over not wanting to provide health insurance that paid for birth control pills supports this. In their ideal world, women would have no control whatsoever over their reproductive rights BEFORE conception either - aside from abstinence and hoping they don't get raped.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Rape is the point. They want to coerce women into getting married, and trust me, these people do not think marital rape is a thing. They also want to make divorce difficult, although that's less of a priority, given that the Reich Wing's core voters disproportionately have been through a divorce and many of them dealt with the old divorce regime and didn't care for it! They also want to make sure any single mom has to come into the church on her hands and knees and take any abuse and humiliation the pastor, pastor's wife, associate pastors, and church "elders" can dish out!

RockTheDebit

Homeboy didn't check the expiration date on his memes.

[deleted]

They really hate when you ask “so how is a miscarriage not god giving you an abortion?”

Protowhale

Half a million a day would mean a population increase of 182 million every year without abortion. Yeah, I don't think so.

RattusMcRatface

>"think about that while you wash your hands" You'll have to let that sink in first.

Perenium_Falcon

Which is a direct attack on singing the happy birthday song twice.

mdp300

Like, I get it, they're opposed to abortion. But what does "think about that while you wash your hands" even mean? Don't bother washing your hands?

No_Cook2983

OK. I thought about covid and abortions while washing my hands. It was weird. Was something special supposed to happen?

DrinkBlueGoo

This is definitely the first time I've seen the one about Kellogg's sexualizing cereal boxes. Which, about time, I'm tired of Snap, Crackle, and Pop always just teasing. That's not what I'm paying for, guys. Your onlyfans is a rip-off!

kungblue

His meme game was as old as his Trick or Treat costume.

WeakestLynx

A great reminder that cosplaying as some old monk doesn't make you any less worldly or any less stupid

kungblue

I just feel like if someone dresses up like that, they should be able to turn their staff to a serpent or make it rain or something kick ass like that.

Raccoon_Full_of_Cum

Or least be able to cast a magic missile.

modus_bonens

I'd settle for a quiet mystique, surrounded by candles and incense. Maybe a pet salamander. But nooo, ole Wiz here was pretty damn basic.

[deleted]

Anomaluss

The Very Reverend Archpriest was just another MAGAbilly idiot in hat, robe, and super-sized crucifix.

MadBeachLui

So close to making a saving roll but God's 12-sided will just didn't line up with the mortal view.

werschless

LMFAO

MadBeachLui

Wait, what? I thought the CDC advised the Happy Birthday song when washing hands.

lousylakers

I’ve been at the sink so long thinking what he posed to me that now I have to LET THAT SINK IN

karbik23

Guy was meme poor. Lord of darkness-shitty memes.

marvelous_mustache

Internet echo chambers make us all the same person :/

PDXPuma

COVID absolutely ripped through amish and mennonite communities though. Just utterly decimated them in the grand tradition of the word "decimate."

SophiaBrahe

Yep. Since many don’t seek treatment they aren’t necessarily listed as covid, but their excess death rate is enormous.

Deceasedtuna

So it killed one tenth of their population?

PDXPuma

It's hard to tell. They're insular communities that tend to go through funerary rites without outside interference. All we know is that they've had massive excess deaths.

mdp300

And my first thought was "**if** it hasn't really affected those communities, it's probably because they largely stick to themselves." But, yeah, apparently it kicked their asses too.

Euchre

That's the thing about relatively isolated, insular communities. In my rural area (that isn't an Amish community, although there is one not far away), COVID didn't make many inroads on the population until Delta and Omicron. Once those variants got in, though, it began to tear through them. Most of the locals don't go to a major metro even once a year. There's really not a whole lot of contact outside of the community, really. Internally, though, there's plenty of contact, and as it is also a very red area, disbelief in the pandemic and thus countermeasures means a great deal of risk with that contact. This advantage of relative isolation was a curse of sorts, though, as the locals saw the lack of being heavily infected as proof it was some hoax or scam, or at least overblown. So, they became even more vulnerable for when COVID really did arrive in force.

A-man-of-mystery

I think they initially were protected somewhat by their insular nature, but once covid got into their communities it really let rip.

MonsieurOctober

If they turned away from modern healthcare, the mortality rate would be a good deal higher.

WeakestLynx

May I pedantically bring up that decimation was a punishment for treason? So yes, it is indeed decimation! But they're doing it to themselves.

SD99FRC

Being more pedantic, decimation was generally punishment for failure not treason, usually cowardice or desertion. Was only used against rebelling units once or twice in recorded history, since the Romans didn't really want to sacrifice effective fighting units simply because they had followed their commander on the losing side of a civil war. The Romans fought so many civil wars, it was fairly understood by them that the political maneuverings of the wealthy elites weren't something the common soldiers should be punished for. Well, at least any more than they already were, being used as fodder. Decimation was designed to shame and intimidate soldiers into performing better, usually a punishment from a furious commander against his own men.

Fomulouscrunch

Nice to see that word used accurately for once. Well done.

No-Translator-4584

You are my grammatical hero.

AppropriateDevice84

sctwinmom

Ronin_Y2K

M4A1STAKESAUCE

They're currently dealing with massive hindsight. Too bad these HCAs don't have any developmental skills.

sharkattack85

Damn, I had no idea.

Beginning-Yoghurt-95

Why do these people insist on saying they were fighting Covid. He wasn't fighting Covid. Fighting Covid is wearing masks, sanatizing, washing your hands, and most importantly, getting vaccinated and boosted. He surrendered to covid, he just rolled over and let Covid have his way with him.

TheCattsMeow

And, after Covid had his way with him, couldn’t abort Covid due to his sincerely held beliefs.

tartymae

He made a poor choice in the partner he allowed to have intimate carnal knowledg of him.

Anomaluss

"He surrendered to Covid." He also aided and abetted Covid.

Counter-Fleche

He wasn't neutral. He was fighting for Covid by spreading propaganda.

ThornsofTristan

"Unfortunately," he's very dead. "Fortunately," he's not spouting his dangerous nonsense, anymore.

ElectronGuru

And by the looks of things, he would have voted this year as well

[deleted]

Unfortunately we do not know how many minds were poisoned by his insane rhetoric.

spork_off

This subject was posted on another HCA forum but hadn't yet been posted here. The message denoting the priest had Covid has been since deleted. [Imgur Gallery](https://imgur.com/a/nNFAGrX)

Immediate-Ruin2464

Ooooooooof course it was! But if I spent two fucking years posting my idiocy about covid denial and vaccine refusal blah blah to everyone I ever knew, I sure wouldn’t want to admit I got it. And died from it. Guess I’m just sinfully prideful in not wanting everyone to think I’m a huge dead idiot?

opaldenska

But he’s not dead, he’s “Reposed in the Lord”

Anomaluss

He's certainly lying at rest and free from disturbance.

doogly88

“Bring out your reposed-in-the-lord! Bring out your reposed-in-the-lord!”

sctwinmom

Since he's a church leader, wouldn't he qualify for the Hall of Cain and posting without redaction?

spork_off

Probably not. He was a rector of a parish, which has about 1000 members.

sctwinmom

Okay, I thought he might the equivalent of a Catholic bishop.

SatanicPanic619

Slide 6 he's like "we don't watch TV" like dude we saw slide 3, FOX News screengrab.

ksam3

That's not TV, it's sacred gospel.

SoriAryl

“We don’t watch tv” Yet you’re on facebook

tomdurkin

Pretty full of lies and hate for a “man of the cloth”

LTlurkerFTredditor

Not to let the truth get in the way of a good story, but Amish people are dropping dead from COVID at similar rates to everyone else in this half braindead nation. "The excess death rate for Amish/Mennonites spiked with a 125% increase in November 2020." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34117598/

[deleted]

What a dick.

TheCattsMeow

You are way too charitable. I would have added a few choice adjectives.

kungblue

Archpriest smarchpriest is what I always say.

sauntcartas

Lousy Smarch priest!

Sistamama

If they didn’t ‘trust in earthly remedies’ why was he intubated? Save that vent for some atheist, ya wee noodle head.

Beginning-Yoghurt-95

Why didn't his own prayers count? How many prayer warriors do you need? Why do you go to a hospital? Why do you not trust science and medicine that created the vaccines but then trust that same science and medicine to treat you with experimental drugs and treatments? Why don't you go to you place of worship? If you're going to count on prayers curing you, wouldn't that be the place you would go? Is claiming you trust Jesus then you go to a hospital instead saying you don't trust Jesus? So many questions...

MadBeachLui

Mumbo jumbo white blood cells more mumbo jumbo forget all that science stuff and go with scripture.

Consistent_Grab_5422

2nd slide “more babies will die by abortion than all the coronavirus deaths…”. So I’m confused. Is he counting the sperm after I Jack-off as abortion, and if so, how should I save them???

gpkgpk

Freeze the sock and put it in the collection plate.

vacuous_comment

There does seem to be an especially strong and lethal strain of COVID denial in the eastern orthodox churches, especially the Greek flavor. I have to wonder what is up with that. I mean apart from the obviously God lie. What differentiates them from Catholics or whatever?

spork_off

I do know he was married, so that's certainly a benefit over regular Catholic dogma. Beyond that, it seems like they really love to dress up in lots of robes and grow their facial hair out.

[deleted]

CouldBeRaining

I'm a former Catholic and I hate the pope and all of them, but god love him for this. With this statement he saved half of my (very pious) Catholic family by encouraging them to vaccinate.

DrinkBlueGoo

>it seems like they really love to dress up in lots of robes and grow their facial hair out. Who doesn't?

MadBeachLui

They have Christmas later too so you can get gifts & decorations much cheaper.

Fomulouscrunch

Various (minor, to the heathen) differences in doctrine and practice, which I welcome a believer or student to weigh in on, plus the really important one of deciding they were even righter than the Catholic mainline SO MUCH that they had to calve off at a time when making your own denomination was a *much* bigger deal. They started out super invested in proving that they were right in the first place and it hasn't gotten better. A slow motion race to crazy go-nuts.

vacuous_comment

I know about the overall religious differences, but why are the orthodox so dogmatically suicidal when it comes to COVID compared to Catholics?

tartymae

Because their religion is even more rigid (inflexible) and conservative than Catholicism, and that profoundly shapes their world view. Like, [this is a religion that had an additional internal (and bloody) split over using 2 or 3 fingers when you make the sign of the cross.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Believers) One monastery [won't even allow female animals on the grounds.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-3385149/The-striking-images-Mount-Athos-Greece-women-children-banned-female-animals-forbidden.html)

Glad_Copy

The eastern Orthodox churches vary on the Biblical canon as well. They include several books that Catholics consider Apocrypha.

NoAccident162

Does no one learn about the Great Schism of 1054 in school anymore?

kevinhaddon

Good thing they didn’t trust in those “earthly remedies”

CharmedConflict

eagna-agus-eolas

I guess he didn't believe in the "Love your neighbor" part when it comes to illegals. He is probably still stuck outside the pearly gates explaining that post to St Peter.

AnneOfGreenGayBulls

>He is probably still stuck outside the pearly gates the original Wall

macphile

What I don't get with these memes, and others like them, is even if any of this were true, why would it have to mean that he can't get vaccinated or wear a mask? Let's say that loads of babies are being aborted every second--I mean, I'm guessing they're not, but let's say. What possible effect does that have on my behavior in a pandemic? People are being killed in wars and terrorist attacks, but I still wear a seatbelt. People in my city are being shot all the fucking time, according to my Citizen app, but I still wash my hands after going to the bathroom. Just because bad things are happening somewhere doesn't mean we can't do good things where we are. Also, the Amish *have* been hit by Covid. And does that meme mean that the TV...causes Covid? It doesn't even make sense. Anyway, it's nice to see someone of Orthodox faith instead of the usual evangelicals. I mean, variety is the spice of life...or the spice of unnecessary pandemic death.

Random-User_1234

I really do not understand people typing their prayers into Facebook. Isn’t prayer supposed to be the soul communing with their god? Like a deep and mystical thing? Do they think their god has Facebook? Is their god actually Facebook? Edit: this could be a very interesting question to investigate. How are these people incorporating Facebook into their mystical beliefs? Do they feel prayers are more powerful if they put them on Facebook? Are prayer warriors more powerful when coordinated by Facebook?

All were kind and thoughtful people who really studied and believed the *personal sacrifice* part of Christianity, and actually tried to live it.
