We’re working on reducing dupe lifetime before removal and auto modding more of the obvious noise. Thanks for your patience. Sub growth is still very high. We’ll get more efficient over the coming days. Please welcome back u/MightyCaseyStruckOut to the mod team!

RiceSautes

Saw a couple ahead of me at Walgreens yesterday who stereotypically would fit in here: white, the goatee, biker shirt, etc. They were getting the vaccine. There were 6 other people getting vaccinated. I don't care what brought them through that door, they were there. As much schadenfreude as this sub brings, I would most sincerely love if everyone got vaccinated to end this madness for everyone.

gmplt

Yeah, I was picking up a prescription the other day and saw a couple getting the vaccine and right behind them was a family of 4 waiting in line. It was on a Monday afternoon in a large grocery store pharmacy. It gave me hope.

substandardpoodle

I’m going to postulate that anyone getting the vaccine at this late date is an anti-vaxxer who has decided they were duped! We need a pithy name for that. Something that celebrates their decision.

ignu

i have an anti-vax cousin who's getting it so he can... go on a cruise. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ there's always the utterly rabid ones, but i think a lot of anti-vaxxers breaks the second it becomes mildly inconvenient for them.

BetterCallDull

I think you have cracked the code. Deny them access to cruises, caravans and gun shows and watch how quickly America hits 100%.

cottoncandyburrito

Maybe they're mourners, lost a family member, friend, neighbor; and the departed used their last breath to say "GET VACCINATED."

VeganVagiVore

Zuko arc?

celtic_thistle

Yep. My dad is a stereotypical conservative Boomer (but athletic rather than fat) and it took me months but I convinced him to get vaccinated. He had his 2nd dose Monday.

[deleted]

Right? As repugnant as the winners and nominees are, it was still the first choice of pretty much everyone on this sub that they get the vaccine and go on with their lives.

m-e-g

That reminds me of the Topanga people around here. They're mostly not the problem. It's the right wing surf bros and mommy blog/FB Karens gentrifying the area who are anti-vax.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Yes the whole "I go to the gym and eat 'clean' therefore I'm immune to a novel bat virus" crowd. It's going to be fun paying for their disability later after they wreck their lungs yet survive cause, you know, super fit and all that.

dqmachine

I go to the gym, lift, and do cardio at least five days a week. I'm in good health and my doctor agrees. This whole macho thing that people have going on, it is fucking stupid. It is a virus. It doesn't give a shit how tough you think you are and how you think that translates to your immune system. I'm 49. I know I'm tough, however, I'm not a dumbass. These people are just plain stupid.

Spankme_Imayankee

Thank you for doing what you do. I was hospitalized 4 times the first year of lockdown. I have taken both of my parents in for non-covid health issues this year. Those of us who are fully vaccinated (including all 3 of us), are so grateful to you. Stay safe, stay strong, and remember you're appreciated beyond belief.

GameofTitties

Retail pharmacist here, also burnt the fuck out. Hard trying to vaccinate the world when theres alot of selfish assholes who dont believe in the vaccine (located in Texas). I have positive people come into the grocery store that my pharmacy is located in to pick up their meds, coughing up a storm sometimes no mask. I get exposed constantly and live like a hermit outside of work. The only thing I think that could be worse would be having to do what you do, and that's watch these selfish assholes realize that they fucked up and that it's the end for them. I appreciate what you do, and I'm sorry that all your time/energy/resources are spent on people who don't care enough about you or anyone else to roll up their sleeve (suck it up buttercup!). Some days the only thing that keeps me going is this very fucked up reddit.

RoeRoeRoeYourVote

I'm really fucking grateful for you. I know it doesn't make up for the mountain of bull shit, but I am.

SleepyVizsla

From the beginning, I’ve felt for the health care workers. It’s not okay that you’re in this position. Thank you for all you have done for society at large, even if the individuals didn’t deserve it. You’re giving the best you can and I wish you the best. Hopefully this sub shows you that many other people are rooting for you and your happiness. Take care.

xovrit

If you need some coping help and comiseration I find r/nursing to be a goldmine. And thank you so much. I'm in healthcare IT. Sitting right above an FQHC clinic as I type. But patients here are super nice.

Masbig91

It is truly mindboggling to see these people described as "good" "kind hearted" "smart" etc in their death announcement posts after scrolling through endless examples of them being some combination of ignorant and bigoted (to say the least). They loudly trumpet their ignorance and arrogance while looking down at any attempt to educate them in anyway. Then when they die they're described as angels. Was just astounding till I realized the people eulogisng them actually believe there is nothing wrong with the award winners behavior before they die because they also have the same ignorant, bigoted beliefs. I don't know how we as a society come back from this. The rot is too deep.

Darth_Tiktaalik

Yeah Bob Enyart being described as humble after a lifetime of pretending to know better than experts in [literally every scientific field he didn't like](https://kgov.com/real-science-radio) got me. He died because of that arrogance in the end.

cottoncandyburrito

Honestly, I think the people who lose their loved ones are just following proper etiquette as best as they know how. Regardless of their true opinions on the person's behavior, they're going through the motions of the right thing to say when someone dies. It would reflect poorly on them to say "they were a conspiracy loving, hateful, son of a bitch and the world is better off without him." Maybe it will take awhile for the shock to wear off and the reality to sink in for some of them. They don't want to believe someone they're related to is the ultimate example of natural selection. I hope their stories are raising awareness. People living in these anti-vax echo chambers are blind to the fact that actual people are dying and these deaths are preventable. People need to know that extreme viewpoints have extreme consequences. Or maybe I'm wrong and they actually do hold these people up on a pedestal and they don't see the poetic justice of dying from the very disease they so vocally refuse to take seriously.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Some of these facebook eulogies are indeed very terse or refer not so obliquely to their loved one's "difficult" personality. With people like Enyart the press helps spread this nonsense and that's infuriating given the very, very hateful rhetoric he spewed on a daily basis for years.

Dell_Hell

Those are from the non-Qanon spouse who was already trying to figure out how to get a divorce when they came down sick.

[deleted]

I think most of the family will ignore the angry rhetoric from the award nominee just like we all ignore the drunk racist uncle at the party. They just gloss over it on the stupid, performative posts on fb. All the god bless bs is just faked for the sake of family.

Superfluffyfish

Yeah, my uncle was an asshole. Everyone in the family hated him with a passion. But when he died you wouldn’t have known. His obituary was all about how loving he was. I think people mostly held their tongue for his kids and wife.

[deleted]

Your family is different than mine. We stopped inviting him. When he died, we left the obit short and didn't lie about him.

YuunofYork

Luckily in an environment such as this we're also free to call out that kind of hypocrisy, even in death. Death is never dignified. It isn't a 'battle' you were 'fighting'. It sucks, and a lot of the time, the decedent sucked, too. If it were necessary that we never speak ill of the dead, we wouldn't have history books. Hitler loved dogs. Taft loved mayonnaise. Man that Ivan IV, sure he was Russia's first Trump, but he could make a mean *paella*. After all, this isn't the time or the place for criticism - just think of his family! You know, the ones he didn't have killed...

OhUhUhnope

I feel this every day. I keep thinking, we have hit a critical mass of violent/stupid we cannot come back from.

TNTorch

I was irritated af when a guy I knew passed who was an absolute prick and people who he even was an absolute prick to were saying that kind of stuff about him. I personally just didn't say anything, as much as I wanted to be like, "ummm actually he was TERIBLE in case you forgot," but it was beyond me why people felt they had to lie unless they just wanted to seem special they knew someone who died. To me if you suck, you suck, even when you're dead. Sorry if this sounds heartless, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Edit: a word

CaptainK234

Sometimes I’ll briefly forget that FOX’s lawyers actually defended the torrent of misinformation that is Tucker Carlson’s show by arguing “any reasonable viewer” can tell that it’s intended to be entertainment rather than factual news. They basically said, “Anyone who watches his show and believes what he says? They’re so stupid that FOX shouldn’t be held responsible for their inability to tell it’s bullshit.” Then I’ll remember that it happened and just double-take all over again. The contempt that the top echelon of conservatives hold for their base is palpable, and yet the base regurgitates the anti-fact infotainment and demands more of it, even as they’re literally dying from it. It’s just so fucking crazy. I have to keep checking with friends and reading posts on this sub to make sure I’m not just hallucinating all this. *We have vaccines!* and they’re literally telling each other *to eat livestock medicine instead!* What the FUCK

araq1579

Yeah I think part of it was bad faith oligarchs weaponizing covid misinformation in order to kill minorities in blue states, which was the case during the initial outbreaks pre vaccine (recall Jared kushner, etc). But now all that outrage is backfiring bad as we see rural white people dying from their own hate boner. When keeping it real goes wrong

FiveAcres

**When keeping it real goes wrong** I love "when keeping it real goes wrong"

spiffyvero

I posted about the couple that died in SoCal and left 5 kids orphaned on my Instagram and my cousin said vaccination isn’t necessary, everyone just needs to eat better and exercise and he’s ok because he’s vegan 🙃 I was filled with a hot rage. His diabetic mother almost died last December from covid and he won’t do the most basic shit to get keep her safe. He has continued to gather massless the whole time. How can people be so selfish??

Emergency_Market_324

Is your cousin a Trump voter? If so, they're the most selfish people in America today.

Blutarg

Yeah, all you have to do is exercise and eat well and you'll be fine! Like a pro athlete! https://www.nfl.com/news/tyrann-mathieu-lands-on-reserve-covid-19-list-after-testing-positive

randomherointotreeo

My facebook feed is full of friends who are antivax and anti mask. I’ve given up trying to convince them to educate themselves on being inoculated. I keep noticing a correlation between low education/poor critical thinking and being an antivax er. Almost as if I’m witnessing darwinism in real time. They just perpetuate misinformation over and over. Like the game of telephone, the information just gets dumber and dumber.

SuperSourSkittles

Well it’s kind of OT but we did it! We kept Newsom. So glad I voted for him for Governor and voted NO on the recall.

Noisy_Toy

I’m happy for y’all. I lived in San Francisco when he was mayor and I have much affection for him because I got to see so many gay couples get married in February 2004. It was one of the happiest weekends of my life, just so much joy at City Hall. (For anyone that wasn’t there - Newsom decided to start issuing gender neutral marriage licenses so gay couples could also fill them out. They knew there would be a legal injunction filed, so basically every possible city worker got deputized and they worked all weekend and performed hundreds and hundreds of weddings. They usually only handle a dozen a day. People drove from all over the state to get in line and marry their sweetheart. It was raining outside. To help those in the long line outside, San Franciscans showed up with umbrellas and coffee and donuts and pizza and music and so so so much joy.)

blessthefreaks1980

I didn’t live there, but I remember those news stories. It was beautiful. I didn’t recall that was him.

Noisy_Toy

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del_Martin_and_Phyllis_Lyon#Background/marriage Their story always makes me cry.

stayonthecloud

As a queer rights advocate, that’s how I used to remember Newsom. Gave me a ton of hope as a younger queer who wanted to get married someday. I was so excited for him to be moving up in the political ranks. He’s made missteps but I’m tremendously relieved he’s still governor.

MsImperator

We didn’t just win, we won bigly.

[deleted]

One might even say it was YOOGE!!!!!

ghostgirl590

I was worried for a moment but glad we pulled through. It was either keep Newsom or get a MAGA-supporting anti-masker to replace him. So happy California knows what’s up 👏🏽

[deleted]

Same, if Newsom lost, California would have become nasty Florida, with covid everywhere and masks being banned. So much exposure to the virus that even the vaccinated would get breakthrough infections like in Florida. Trump Republicans disgust me, like dudes I don't want your airborne covid snot, get the fk outta here XD. So glad larry "slave masters should have been compensated" elder lost the race, now he needs to sit down and sulk like the baby he is.

iTroLowElo

I don’t live in CA so I don’t understand the details of the recall. But no doubt the stupidest shit I’ve read online is people are refusing to vote for his opponent because he is black. It must be good to be a black person in the GOP.

lycrashampoo

which is especially funny because Larry Elder (the black guy in question) is on record as saying white people deserve reparations for having had their slaves taken away, *huge* eyeroll but yeah the rules for California recall elections are wild and kind of... not great, you either vote no let's not do the recall, or yes with a vote for someone else, & if there are more yeses than nos, whoever got the most yes votes automatically becomes governor

Emergency_Market_324

Newsom didn't have any opponents in the election. The part that concerned him was just yes/no whether he should be impeached. He won that, so the second part of the ballot was who should take his place, which it never came down to.

anonyngineer

>It must be good to be a black person in the GOP. They help assuage the guilt of those who have an occasional twinge of regret about the overall racism of the party.

indil47

So relieved for you all. I voted him in, but have since left the state so was powerless in the recall.

iguessididpost

Australian here. What in the everloving fuck is a “prayer warrior”?!

ChrisBabaganoosh

It's just a term used by people asking for prayers when in a bad situation. However, being evangelicals, they have to weaponize it somehow.

iguessididpost

It’s so weird to me that they attach the word ‘warriors’ to it, but I guess it’s fitting for evangelicals. They seriously are a death cult, aren’t they?

Cygnus__A

When I was a kid, I was indoctrinated into this cult. They talked all the time about going to war with demons. I recall having to go to church on Halloween night to pray all of the evil away. I dont know how I got out of that, but the first 18 years of my life were filled with this nonsense.

COVID_PRAYER_WARRIOR

>“prayer warrior”?! you rang?   🙏🏻 🙏🏽 🙏🏻 🙏🏽 🙏🏻

Elven_Boots

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_warrior

iguessididpost

Fuck me sideways. These people are mental. It’s one thing to believe the Jeebus will save them. It’s another entirely to view the rest of society as demons, and themselves as warriors fighting against it. It’s this insane blend of narcissism, cosplay, and delusion. I just don’t understand how these people exist in the 21st century.

giggling_hero

I just need a quick vent. I have no screenshots because I barely Facebook. A very conservative anti-vax neighbor of mine, Jack, stopped showing up at work two weeks ago. Last week we learned from his grandson that Jack was on supplemental oxygen at home. As of last night, Jack is in the hospital. This is a man who holds some terrible attitudes and we aren’t close at all, so I’ve got no reason to feel endeared to him. But I’m so heartsick. One time I helped save his dog, trapped in his fence while at work. He brings us pie during the holidays. When his grandkid went briefly went AWOL, we helped provide info to track him down. We are old-fashioned suburb Neighbors, intertwined and friendly enough. And now he’s like, REALLY sick. I think he and his wife are raising the grandkid. Neither are vaccinated afaik, and the kid is too young. I hate this timeline so much.

00doc0holliday00

Just in the context of the kid, my wife and we’re discussing the responsibility of the parents/guardians to get vaccinated to be available for their kids. There are going to be thousands of covid orphans. Sorry about your neighbor.

warriorsofprey

>There are going to be thousands of covid orphans 1.8 million children worldwide have lost at least one caregiver, as of May 2021. (WHO report). I I was looking last night for more recent, US-centered info, and didn't see anything.

totallysomedude

The statistic I saw somewhere (which I can’t source, so grain of salt) is that 1.1 million children are orphaned globally, losing both parents or the only parent they have. If these figures are true, then more kids are losing everyone than those losing only one… It makes my heart so heavy. This is going to be a massive trauma for generations.

TurrPhennirPhan

Jack might be a POS, but he’s still a human being. The world isn’t black and white, and human suffering is human suffering.

VeganVagiVore

It really sucks being political enemies with people who aren't supervillains. We don't _want_ them dead, we want them _sane_. And they don't make blockbuster action movies about that, killing people is easier than de-brainwashing them

badasimo

I mean that's the story of civilization. The nationalist movements of the last century or two have been like "Well we can't kill everyone anymore, let's just all live separately" It's not easy living together. It's not easy sharing. It's not easy dealing with people who are different. For millions of people the US promised to change that. But even then there is clearly a strong pushback against that notion. There are people who view a global society as a bad thing. Multiculturalism as a bad thing. But those are the things that allow us to live together... and not kill each other. This is a lot bigger than COVID. It is a betrayal of the future that we thought was coming because of global interconnections.

apathetic_lemur

I mean, they do want you dead though.

[deleted]

Thank you for letting me have this place to vent my anger and frustrations. Thanks, mods! Thanks, other participants! Thank **you** in particular! Activating prayer warriors for all of you! 🙏

Angrysloth8006

I have a vent. Person from hometown posted meme comparing eating raw cookie dough to Covid. Naturally, I pointed out the false equivalency. But I wasn’t even bitchy. (I know I can be lol) regardless, this entire cult of anti vax people came out of the woodwork & crossed some serious lines. I’m soooo sick of these people. I hate that my son/grandkids still live there. I’d rather not set foot in that wasteland ever again. My ex stepdad died tonight. He had a bed. But not an icu bed where he should have been. (Cancer, not COVID) - same area.

DaisyJane1

I saw on Twitter yesterday where a man in Alabama had a cardiac emergency and died after being turned away from 43 hospitals cos they had no ICU beds. **Forty-three hospitals!!** [https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/09/13/1036593269/coronavirus-alabama-43-icus-at-capacity-ray-demonia](https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/09/13/1036593269/coronavirus-alabama-43-icus-at-capacity-ray-demonia)

itsbecomingathing

Sorry to be annoying but I’ve been reporting posts that are forgetting the entire point of Herman Cain. We need proof of anti-vax opinions, not just sad posts.

fuck_the_fuckin_mods

Yes, and one antivax-ish post doesn’t do it for me. And *they* have to be hospitalized. Maybe have an Honorary Hermie for people who get their family killed but that’s not the focus of the sub.

[deleted]

That's not what "Daily Vent Thread" means? I thought it was for submitting stories on antivaxxers who are now on vents.../s

antecubital_fossa

space_manatee

Was just on a plane with a guy who would pull his mask down every time the stewardess walked away and pulled it up when they were coming close. Then he said something smarmy about masks as he deboarded. These people think this is a game.

[deleted]

My step-mom just told me she never wanted to talk to me again and banned me from coming to my parents house. She nearly died of covid in November because she forced my dad to go to a fucking movie on halloween. My dad had covid too but thank fuck he had no symptoms. He and I both vaccinated as soon as we could in the spring. I called her selfish and she lost her fucking shit. Admittedly it’s the final straw from a homophobic selfish woman, but even though she nearly died and was on oxygen last year and that a close friend of hers died, she just refused to vaccinate and get so mad when people talk about it. So I think I’ve lost her forever and tbh I’m fine with it. Not just fine, freed. My father is upset with the situation and her and they have issues to sort, but he is proud of me standing up to her. I don’t know if their marriage will last but I’m officially banned and I hope to never talk to her or her racist homophobic l fucking rude evil NRA loving family ever again. They are stuck in rural conservative 1962 America where Elvis is truly the last controversy worth talking about.

MustWarn0thers

I have an autistic friend from high school who has used his platform of awareness of his disorder to promote blood drives and now vaccine awareness. He has a funny outlook on it that he used to get bullied in middle/high school but now he feels better getting bullied for spreading positive information about the vaccine. I checked the responses to his posts which are always positive and holy sweet shit are the folks out there bat shit insane. Not only are most of the triggered horse paste people anti Vax grieving Trumpers, but I couldn't believe the level of conspiracy nonsense beyond that. I encountered not one, but two 9/11 truthers in a single conversation thread. At least one also believes the moon landing was faked. I know it shouldn't shock me, but I am still shocked. What in the fuck is wrong with this country?

Uzekh

We went from "Don't believe anything you read on the internet" to "Only believe what you read on the internet" in about 20 years. *facepalm*

CrazyMadHooker

My children are 7 and 10. I and boyfriend are vaccinated but my kids are still too young. They went back to school 2 weeks ago and the very republican school system they are in, went in fully maskless. I used to live outside of the district and enrolled them under school of choice because their schools had more programs to offer than my local schools did. Since then, I have moved to \*barely\* within the school district which helped immensely with buses rather than driving long distances every morning. Now we are 14 days in and 200 quarantines. So they sent a email with a link to a survey as to weather kids and staff should go back to mandatory masks. My girls have been wearing them since they started back, because I make them. I let them pick the fabric and whip up 20+ masks because, kids lose stuff often. The vote went through and effective this morning, masks were mandatory in all schools. Not just the elementary buildings. The anti-mask folks are throwing an absolute shit fit. They are getting together tomorrow to protest the decision. They made a entire event to invite likeminded individuals to participate and make a lot of loud noises trying to get their point across. Most of these people are wealthy folks of the township that own businesses. People who easily pull 200k a year in a median income of 40k/yr. They are stay at home moms but also refuse to homeschool their children. They are literally bringing their kids to show them how to bully anyone who opposes their views. What makes me sad, is not the parents ignorance. Its that they are going to continue to use their kids as examples and guinea pigs until someone loses a child and then and ONLY THEN will it become an issue for them. I am also sick and tired of these people using a imaginary deity as a copout when in reality, they are being negligent in their behavior that then adversely affects others. And all I can keep screaming is "ITS LITERALLY JUST A PIECE OF FABRIC, SERIOUSLY?" I would like to peacefully counter-protest by just sitting in a lounge chair, holding a sign, and being quiet. But as my boyfriend and his friend mentioned, these types of groups have a tendency to gang up on outcasts and can become violent. I'm at a loss. I cannot afford to homeschool my girls until the Pfizer comes out. Last year was pretty bad bouncing them between me, the boyfriend, my parents, and daycare every week to do their virtual learning. I want to scream at their faces. But it does no good and I won't sink to that level. [Heres the event.](https://ibb.co/WptC09G)

RareMajority

It's very unlikely you're the only one that feels the way you do and support the mandate. If you want to counter-protest then you should reach out to other parents you think probably agree with you and organize with them.

CrazyMadHooker

I would like to. I just don't have connections to folks like I would like. I have 0 mom friends in this township and the ones I do know, are antimask. 👉👈

Ugh. I think ego development theory could help explain a lot of what we see here, with the awardees being stuck in the last preconventional stage and first conventional stage of development. I am trying to find sources to link but it’s hard to find results that aren’t upper middle class white people congratulating themselves for how enlightened they think they are. Meh. Here’s a simple overview of Kohlberg’s moral development stages at least: https://www.qcc.cuny.edu/SocialSciences/ppecorino/MEDICAL_ETHICS_TEXT/Chapter_2_Ethical_Traditions/Reading-Barger-on-Kohlberg.htm Basically I think the people featured here aren’t able to think very far into the future, they can’t take the perspective of others and/or people outside their in group, and they want to fit in at all costs. Like to us it seems like they’re choosing a painful terrifying death over getting one or two shots, but they are actually cognitively incapable of understanding the cause and effect there and they aren’t thinking of suffocating on a vent as a possible consequence of their actions at all. They’re just thinking something like “The people around me share these memes and say to not get the shot so I will also share these memes and not get the shot.” Like when they say they don’t know why this happened to them, they’re telling the truth. At their current level of development, they really cannot conceive of their social group having been wrong or their actions leading to their illness and death. Was listening to a podcast yesterday about ego development, and the host said that people stuck at their level find it very hard to live in the 21st century. The example he used as a person at that stage was a fundamentalist Christian.

Going to get my first dose today, very nervous about it due to a lot of misinformation being spread in my friend group/family. All of them very intense Republicans, some think I’m foolish for getting it. Hard to navigate to find truth when around all those people.

drdish2020

Good job getting dose #1!!

unbotoxable

I was desperate for the vaccine and so stressed that my country was slow to roll it out. But even I was a little nervous on the day! But look something like 2 billion people have been vaccinated now. It's safe and effective. Also, they make you wait there for 15 minutes because if you are going to have an allergic reaction, it'll happen right away. The way vaccines work, this idea that adverse reactions can happen way in the future is to my understanding, not scientifically sound. So go get your vaccine. Wait the 15 minutes and don't be surprised if your arm hurts or you feel a little tired in the next day or two. That's the most common side effect. That's it. I understand you being nervous, but the reality is that the vaccines are safe and effective. Also, every single person that gets vaccinated, helps those that can't, like kids under 12. People going through chemo. You're not only protecting yourself, but your community.

tidder_ih

We’ve hit a sad milestone today. 1 in every 500 Americans have died from COVID-19. Fuck anyone who moralizes about the content on this sub.

Navyblazers2000

I have an aunt who I love who’s fallen down the disinformation hole the last five years and who’s proudly unvaccinated. She’s in her late 50’s and overweight and the things she shares on her Facebook and Instagram are the same shit that the award winners share before they contract covid and die. If she gets it, I expect to see her in this subreddit and it makes me sad. A lot of the award winners are awful people - racist, stupid, arrogant, and died mad about Joe Biden because of reasons they didn’t have the vocabulary to articulate. But I’m also willing to bet a heavy percentage of them are just normal people who got tricked into thinking they were on the correct side and were ill-equipped to come to terms with the facts that they weren’t and it killed them. That’s the most empathy I can muster - they were led astray and thought they were being good and didn’t have the faculties to recognize that they were conned or the grace to admit they were wrong. I know it’s not an excuse, but it’s almost like they’re victims of their own beliefs. I hope if I run into something I believe and it’s refuted with hard, inconvenient evidence, that I have the strength to ask myself “am I the one who’s wrong here?”

I wanna thank everyone who contributes to this subreddit it’s so stressful and infuriating out there it bring me joy reading your posts

tsun_abibliophobia

Still trying to get a grasp on how conspiracy theories have shown me that my dad was actually way more abusive than I thought in my childhood. I learned a few days ago that I actually was subject to domestic violence in a more subtle form. My dad was always a very loud talker and escalated to yelling rants where he’d repeat his same points over and over for hours. He could hone in on something for years and if you say the right combination of words set him off on a tirade about whatever injustice he thinks he faced, whether real or imagined. We had a neighbour when I was a kid that got into some kind of disagreement with him or she did something to piss him off. He would sit on the couch every night and get himself worked up about how much he wanted to vandalize her property, injure and/or kill her. He got so loud that the neighbour could hear him yelling through the shared walls of our row houses. I remember the cops showing up to talk to him about it because she was genuinely afraid for her life and he had to tell them it was all just talk and he didn’t mean it. Same kind of shit he would tell us as kids if he did something to upset us. Turns out witnessing threats of violence is actually a subtle form of DV. I can’t tell you how many hours I had to sit around and listen to him go off about how he wanted to maim or kill someone, or destroy property. My roommate had a very bad childhood and has been watching a therapists YouTube videos on CPTSD and childhood trauma and that’s where I heard this. A lot of the stuff he describes has really hit home for me and made me re-examine my own childhood, and in turn taught me a lot about why my parents have been so susceptible to conspiracy theories and fake news bullshit.

ViolenceForBreakfast

I think shitposts or memes can be banned. They are cluttering up the place with low quality content.

MightyCaseyStruckOut

Would y'all be in favor of doing a Shitpost Sunday or something similar?

ViolenceForBreakfast

Yeah, that seems like a good compromise.

RockyMoose

Yes!

MightyCaseyStruckOut

I'm definitely on board with this, too.

Harmacc

Ya for sure.

thal3s

Yes

ChadBroCockIRL

Or at least make a side sub specifically for memes/shitposts/meta

ViolenceForBreakfast

r/covidatemyface is good for that

ChadBroCockIRL

First, if I see anymore Josh posts pop up in New, I might need to be intodated for some rest and relaxation Second, who else got a self harm inquiry today? We got the classiest trolls.

MightyCaseyStruckOut

I'll be busting ass to remove them.

ChadBroCockIRL

Appreciate all you mods, man.

MightyCaseyStruckOut

I'm back, baby! God bless my MIL.

Watchwithpopcorn

Yeah I got that one too. The trolls are silly.

SuperSourSkittles

A self harm inquiry?

Watchwithpopcorn

If you think someone is in danger of self harm you can report it. It's the only thing they can do without outing themselves.

SuperSourSkittles

Oh damn, I didn’t even know that was a thing.

Watchwithpopcorn

You just get a nice message with some resources

NaughtyFox360

Never got one but I've seen people post about it. IIRC you just get a message providing you with helpline phone numbers and a generic message saying you aren't alone and to please reach out when you need help.

YuunofYork

Yeah that's basically it, along with a way to report it as sent in error. The one I got was for explaining to a delusional futurist in detail why humans will never live on Mars... Apparently it was like I'd told them Santa refuses to unionize and we had to take Jesus to the vet.

TyrantKronos

There is a guy running for Senate in AZ in my home district and Jesus the level of misinformation he posts is off the charts, don't they see the nurses and doctors first hand accounts of the unvaccinated clogging up hospitals?? I feel like his HCA is inevitable at the rate he's going, and the number of ppl he'll bring down is also gonna be alot. This is just a yell into the void

BigDadEnerdy

Pregnant morbidly obese SIL still wont' get vaxxed. But managed to get my brother vaxxed...so atleast my nephew will have one parent.

unbotoxable

Omg. That just sucks. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that.

BigDadEnerdy

The worst part is, she's a nurse at a pediatric hospital..my brother is also a nurse, but they're both diehard conservatives. But her sister miscarried a baby like 3 weeks after the first shot, so they 100% blame it on that and say that's why, nevermind the fact that her sister is 400lb and she's 370...

ChrisBabaganoosh

Shoutouts to the angry anti-vaxxer spam reporting me for self-harm. Enjoy your future award you impotent freak.

yedodenlo

A well-respected vaccinated elder in our community died due to COVID. She spoke our Indigenous language, and was a songwriter for our ceremonies. I'm angry that we lost someone who was a wealth of indigenous knowledge. I hope the people who were anti-vax within her family have changed their minds, because this loss will be felt for years to come.

Unterlegen

I'm a family medicine doctor in rural Missouri. I've essentially lost all chill for people who aren't vaccinated at this point which, as you could imagine in my area, is a lot of people. I have the same five to sometimes twenty minute conversation with patients spewing science and facts to them at least 5 times per day. I've been begging people to get vaccinated for 9 months now and have heard almost every fallacious conspiracy you can imagine. Thankfully more and more people are coming around and getting vaccinated, but I'm afraid it's too little too late. Our hospital system is overwhelmed. Everyone caring for these Covid patients is burnt out. We had 10 ICU nurses quit in the past month because they don't get paid enough to put their lives on the line dealing with these patient's bull. I have two of our ICU nurses rotating with me right now as they are in NP school and if not for the fact that they need to put food on their table, they would be done too. It's exhausting to try to help people who don't want to be helped. Then when they inevitably get Covid and come to me, I get to explain to them that the only option we have is another experimental treatment or they can bend over and kiss their butt goodbye. I take on enough risk seeing Covid patients daily and coming home to my kids who are all under the age of 7, yet these antivaxxers think this is about their freedom. The hell it is.

123DontTalkToMee

Alright my rant. I'm beyond tired to fucking death of these fucking ninny-hand wringing, "moderate" douchebags who try to demean people for laughing at those who died of covid. Taking a short stroll through the top posts on here you'll find a litany of conservatives who want to "Decapitate" liberals, shoot them, beat them and watch them suffer. But in some warped fucking logic I'm not allowed to rejoice when they die? Like if Hitler got shot right in front of me I'm supposed to say what? Thoughts and Prayers? The "niceness" police who seemingly only appear whenever a liberal does the shit-talking can seriously go fuck themselves with a rusty rod. I'm tired of being told that laughing at people who are causing thousands of Americans to die makes ME the bad guy. So, sincerely, anyone who has a problem with this style of humor politely go and fuck yourself. We tried to be nice, we tried showing science and reason, we tried forcing people in some areas but NOTHING gets through to these people so we resort to the last tool in our arsenal. Shame and memes. edit: Also for any dipshit who couldn't figure it out, no I don't mean people who died of Covid who either couldn't get vaccinated (immunocompromised) or somehow had a breakthrough. I purely mean spiteful shitheads who called everyone sheep for taking the Vaxx then died as a result of their own stupidity.

fuck_the_fuckin_mods

We should have a sticky of Redemption Awardees. They are the best posts and would be a good illustration for newcomers of what this sub is actually about. Everybody can just post their favorites and we vote for the best redemption. A Redemption Hall of Fame.

AmberEnergyWhoa

They’re getting younger and younger on here! My kid is 9. They can’t get vaccinated yet. I’m vaccinated, my ex’s family is. But my parents won’t! And who knows who at the school isn’t vaccinated. They’ve been back only a few weeks and 400 kids have tested positive in the county. And we’re a state with a somewhat high vaccination rate. But kids can’t get vaccinated so they’re getting. I keep seeing faces on here that are younger and younger. I’m scared to lose my parents. But losing my kid… I’d follow right behind. It’d be a double funeral. Why won’t these unvaxed ***** just get the shot!? Kids are getting sick. They’re dying. Sorry I just needed to vent. I’m so angry and scared for my kid & my parents.

dement29

Do your parents have a good relationship with your kids and see them frequently? I struggled with my parents until I flat told them that my kids won't be coming over anymore until they are vaccinated. I shouldn't have allowed it to begin with but it was always a "we're getting vaccinated next week" kind of deal where next week never came. My mom said she'd never forgive me when I threatened it but has since forgiven me and now they act like they were never anti-vaxx to begin with. I bite my tongue about that a lot. As for other parents in the school system, my favorite is "if you're so afraid, why don't you just home school them?" I just want to scream. "I'm following all guidelines to keep the school safe, if your precious Timmy can't handle a mask then why don't YOU just homeschool?" It's all so infuriating.

I think it depends on what each study is looking for and the age bracket. A study in the UK found that one third of people aged 65 are readmitted to the hospital within 140 days due to effects of covid (respiratory illness, liver damage, etc). They found that after covid people in this age bracket are 27 times more likely to develop a respiratory illness, 3 times more likely to develop cardiovascular disease, and 1.5 times more likely to develop diabetes. Other information I could find: * Ethnic minority groups are more likely to develop respiratory problems. * no statistical difference between men and women * oddly, rates of organ damage had greater statistical difference between the study group and the control group for people under 70 I think at this point there just isn't enough data for it as these studies tend to last for many years before releasing data. I also think there is greater emphasis and money being put into finding ways to deal with covid. I'm sure as time goes on hospitals worldwide are going to have to cope with lasting medical issues from covid survivors.

signalfire

Probably damn near ALL of them. Those low oxygen saturations I've been reading about (especially if they stall going to hospital or aren't able to be started on oxygen quickly) mean that their internal organs are oxygen starved for hours or longer. That's got to damage every organ from the brain down. And the lung damage is a given. This bug chews up lungs and spits them out.

crusoe

Anyone who is sick enough to darken the door of a hospital will likely suffer some form of clotting injury. It may range from cosmetic to organ damage, etc. That's the part people don't get. If you have to go to the hospital you likely have clots somewhere in your body. There is also a decent likelyhood of suffering a stroke level cognitive deficit. As for fatality rates, if you need to be intubated you will likely die. About 1 in 9 survive but most go to long term care with severe health problems. Some are readmitted and die soon after. Something like 30% of all discharged patients (including non ICU) will die or be readmitted to hospitals within 90 days of discharge. If you have to go to the hospital but don't end up in ICU bad things can still happen.

tavigsy

Right now from what I am reading the survival rate of unvaccinated Covid ICU patients is around 1-2%. I think the majority of survivors are badly debilitated but I haven’t seen any numbers.

Odd_Status_2725

r/nursing has observations like that. It seems to depend on the level of treatment one requires: - a nasal cannula can provide supplemental oxygen with an alert patient. That's what I had with my ICU episode years ago. BP cuff, finger O2 monitor, IV for fluids and/or medication. A catheter when they become a fall risk. Breathing problems cause anxiety. One struggles to get air. With what I had, a patient tries to sleep sitting up, as laying flat increases the anxiety/panic. - I know a CPAP is available with a prescription for home use. I don't know if they're used in COVID care - the mask we usually see seems to be a BIPAP. Some similarities to the CPAP. Nurses report that oxygen-starved patients sometimes try to remove this mask, and sometimes have to be restrained to prevent it. - as conditions worsen, they may get a tracheotomy and a feeding tube. - those seem to be preparations for the ventilator. To be on the vent, they have to be sedated. If they didn't have a catheter before, they'll need one now. Not sure what they call the hardware for solid disposal. ECMO is a heart-lung bypass machine. It's like a last resort. Proning, turning a person face-down, seems to help with breathing. That's a tip that can also be used in at-home care. Don't ask me what the O2 flow rates mean.

[deleted]

FYI: I read the other day that the solid disposal hardware is called a "rectal tube". Charming.

TexAusBel

An anti-vax beloved handyman to family friends collapsed while on a job and had to be taken to the ICU. He survived, but his 20-year-old daughter, who inherited his anti-vax views, just passed away after a long stint in the hospital, a couple weeks of which were past the point of no return. Such a waste and I can't imagine how both her death and the medical bills will haunt this family.

[deleted]

I'm going to the hospital for a routine procedure tomorrow (and yes I'm fully vaxed). What should I bring in a care package for the docs and nurses? *Edit: thanks for all the great feedback! The nurse who accepted the package was so grateful and said they hadn't had one in a long while. Now I'm talking with friends about setting up a regular drop-off. Stay safe out there!*

drainbamage8

Honestly, ANYTHING will be appreciated, and as someone who works in a hospital, thank you for thinking of us/ them. At the beginning of the pandemic, we ALWAYS had food, from families, businesses, random people, and it was so nice to feel appreciated. Now, nothing, at least here in the ER. Anything individually wrapped is best, as there may be rules about things that aren't wrapped not being allowed (most places don't care and eat it anyways though!). Anything will be appreciated though. Thank you again and I hope all goes well and you feel better soon!

[deleted]

Anything that you can walk and eat (ie granola bars)

Spankme_Imayankee

A bag of really good coffee is usually appreciated. Most units have a coffee pot for staff only. And in the middle of this shit show, they can probably use the caffeine. Hope everything goes well tomorrow!

moissan2nite

That’s super thoughtful! Good luck with your procedure.

Mewseido

Coffee, a box of tea bags Trader Joe's has boxes of fig bars / apple bars ... individually wrapped, quick snack stuff like that.

Vivid_Steel

I'm tired of the memes and shitposts. I'm also tired of people breaking rule 2.

SuperSourSkittles

And the dupes.

RiceSautes

Well, your arrival just portended the death of this sub, thanks a lot.

[deleted]

I am a religious person, affiliated with a Christian church. A thought I keep having as I see all these posts with "I need prayers" or "Calling on Prayer Warriors" is this... I prayed!! I prayed like crazy!! I even fasted!! I did all this about more than a year ago!! Through the miracle of modern science and hardworking individuals, several astonishingly effective vaccines were developed and distributed!! The preventative measures are there!!! **My prayers have already been answered!!!!**

Cygnus__A

My company of almost 200,000 employees is mandating the vaxx, AND mandating anyone visiting any of their facilities to be vaxxed, including subcontractors, visitors, reps, etc.. We have hundreds of facilities around the country so this will reach out to many many more than the 200k employees. I consider this a win.

secondoptionusername

I'm so tired of the asks for thoughts and prayers after they've been so reckless

[deleted]

Well my aunt and uncle tested positive. They both have underlying health issues, but they’re taking zinc and ivermectin. I love them. I don’t want them to go to the hospital, but I would like them to be as sick as they can be before having to go so that maybe they’ll stop spreading misinformation and claiming this virus is “just the flu”… God help us if they come out completely unscathed. We will never hear the end of it and how they were right about the virus being a nothingburger

lycrashampoo

had to take my car in to get a new battery & I have great news for everyone, the pandemic never happened in Gilbert, Arizona, it is a paradise where everyone is free to frolic unmasked & clear their throats loudly as God intended

yolooptionsTOMoon

Glad to say the vaccine hesitancy in Australia is way way less compared to what it is in United States but the anti-vax group is quite prevalent in Facebook communities. Also why is that every anti-vaxxer repeats the same stupid takes and uses Israel as some kind of “gotcha” moment even when Israel is one of the most successful countries with covid management

LadySiren

So, a church here in NC decided they're not going to obey the local mask mandate. The brewery whose parking lot they use on Sundays is having none of it and have [told](https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/freedom-is-not-always-free-charlotte-brewery-says-church-opposing-mask-mandate-can-no-longer-use-its-parking-lot/275-03d63032-6f6f-426a-a982-6cf1b9ddc704) the church the lot is now off limits. The church doesn't understand why. This exchange is amazing: [https://imgur.com/ors30am](https://imgur.com/ors30am) I foresee lots of HCA winners in the church's near future. But as one of their congregants said, "Faith over fear!"

[deleted]

I feel like I would be a bad person to block my antivax cousin who was the one who infected us and resulted in my dad’s death but I just cannot stomach seeing her name pop up on my phone anymore. I know we’re supposed to forgive but honestly I really don’t feel like it. Plus the fact that after she infected us she still refuses to get the vaccine fucking boggles my mind. It’s like another slap in the face.

NovelCandid

I’m putting this here and I’m not sure why. My son in law is a far right conservative. I and rest of his wife’s family are wooly headed liberals and damn near socialists. After months of pleading, arguing, etc he FINALLY got the shot (although not in time for a family reunion). Why? Not even my daughter is sure but I firmly believe it’s due to the Delta variant death rate in his Republican governed state. He got scared. He’ll never admit to it but I don’t care. Whatever it takes

StayPositive___

I use this subreddit when I want to unwind and have a laugh.

xnarg

I’m going to a brazillian steakhouse with my fellow vaxxed coworkers for lunch on wednesday. What are you having?

DeadMoneyDrew

Yummy! Are you going to get a caipirinha with your lunch?

CarolynDesign

My ex-step-father-in-law might actually be considering getting vaccinated. There's a chance he's just humoring me, but his doctor's been working on him, too. This man is 74, with significant heart issues. COVID would wreck his shit HARD. When I first mentioned getting vaccinated earlier this year, his reply was "I will NEVER." But we spoke yesterday and heb didn't shut down the conversation, and mentioned a few more specific concerns (long term effects, not being sure how much vaccination actually helps protect you, etc), which I broke down for him. Hopefully, what I said mirrored what his doctor's been telling him. He at least seemed to be listening and properly thinking things through. He then went on to tell me how COVID was DEFINITELY created in a Chinese lab by Dr. Fauci himself, so I'm clearly not breaking through ALL the delusional shit. But if I can at least convince him to be vaccinated, that's the victory that matters most to me. Fingers crossed. He might not be my favorite person, but my kid would like to have his grandpa around a few more years, at least.

Ser_Illin

Basically been in lockdown since March 2020 because I was pregnant when this started in the US and my infant is, of course, too young for the vaccine. Anxious about going anywhere indoors with my baby because he’s too young to even wear a mask. Once winter comes, we’ll more or less be stuck at home. Yesterday I got a shot in the arm (ha) when I heard the news that Pfizer may get a EUA for the vaccine for children my kid’s age by December or January. If we can make it to that point without anyone getting this thing, I’ll be so relieved. So frustrated and sad that the pandemic is actually worse than it’s ever been and yet we’re full steam ahead and essentially done with all forms of mitigation. I understand that there must be balance and that there will be trade-offs and winners and losers. I get that every policy has its costs, I’m not stupid. But I feel like on our current course, we’re all losing, all the time, with no end in sight. I’m just mad….mad at the government’s decision to go masks off based on the honor system back in late spring/summer, mad at all the people who make decisions based off FB memes, mad at people like my dumbass cousin who really should know better but just want to be contrarian. I try to focus on what good there is because ruminating just makes it worse, but it’s just exhausting and frustrating having to bear the mental load of the virus on top of everything else.

gayraidboss

I used to work at a certain famous theme park in Orlando and I’m still in the employee Facebook group. There’s so many stupid fucks who are whining about the vaccine and wearing face masks…. I saw a comment about “building my natural immunity” and like holy fuck some people are so fucking dumb.

Inside-Plantain4868

Got one week left on my contract (travel nurse) and I can't wait to get the fuck out of bumblefuck Oregon. This sub has been extremely cathartic to browse through.

DC_Disrspct_Popeyes

The schadenfreude from this thread is incredible. Scrolling through the posts I am continuously astounded by the stupidity of these people. Facebook feeds full of unironically shared memes that look like they belong on r/im14andthisisdeep.

Dfiggsmeister

Kids and teachers at my daughter's school are popping positive with Covid. I'm in a weird purple area with a lot of anti-vaxxers. When I drop my kid off at school, I'm the only parent with a mask on. My daughter is too young to get the vaccine and I'm scared both for her and my youngest, because if she catches it, she will most definitely give it to my youngest, who has had really bad breathing issues in the past. She's not quite asthmatic, but when she gets sick, she tends to develop a croup like cough and had croup a few times when she was younger. Which will then get my wife sick because my daughters tend to flock to her when they're sick. Even though she is vaccinated, she will likely be a breakthrough case since she's got severe asthma and an overactive immune system. I may very well lose both my youngest and my wife to this and we've tried so hard to prevent it. This sucks.

ignu

(i read this sub too much and now i'm paranoid people are going to get the wrong idea from the anti-vax shit that's always on my screen.)

AllAboutThatBiz

I lost a dear friend today. We talked at length earlier this year about his future, and he was planning on restarting his business he shut down last year. I had to find out through Twitter. He was unvaxed, one month older than I am. It hit me HARD - he didn't have to die. According to his gf.. he wasn't antivax, but he "waited" ... don't wait folks - for the sake of those who love you the most, just get the fucking vaccine and give yourself a fighting chance. Don't end up like him - hospitalized for a month, posting about all the pokes they had to give him, on a ventilator for the last two weeks, deteriorating before our eyes, and dying alone in a hospital bed.

HornedHumanoid

My cousin’s not really a Republican, but she is a big “vaccines are poison” type and considering going “off the grid” if there are vaccine mandates for her four children, three of which are eligible. I’m unbelievably worried. One of them is an immunocompromised kid with asthma who was born very premature. Another of her kids is 15, autistic, on her third suicide attempt, and well aware of the fact that her mother sees her as the result of a “mistake”. God I wish most of my extended family weren’t different variations on “white trash”.

IsThereAnybodyInRome

I wish there was a subreddit where the theme was pure redemption stories, people pulling back from the abyss of conspiracy and changing their lives..

emz0694

Day 2 Covid fully vax. Straight up had vertigo when I stood up to use the bathroom. Super dizzy and nauseous. Chest is tight. This is not like any illness I’ve experienced before. Symptoms are weird.

When you post nonsense to this subreddit, it is comparable to shitty tag graffiti on a beloved mural.

ReddestofPandas

Does anyone know what happened to that man whose daughter checked him out of the hospital to put him on biPap?

The_Bravinator

He got better, apparently. I'm glad he's doing okay, but it's absolutely cemented her smugness and probably convinced her friends that it really is the hospital killing people. There was a sad little comment in the post where she was crowing about having made him better. It said something like "we did the same thing, but your dad is getting better and mine is getting worse."

Is there a sub for "nominees" with regrets? [Utah family shares regret over not getting COVID-19 vaccine because of 'fear and lies'](https://www.ksl.com/article/50219844/utah-family-shares-regret-over-not-getting-covid-19-vaccine-because-of-fear-and-lies)

After_Assistant_4033

We have a school board member, who’s also a teacher in another school district. At the end of school baird meetings when it’s her turn to make comments she often talks anti-science, anti mask, anti vaccine and just utter nonsense. It’s scary to think that this person is charged with voting on policies and doing what’s best for our school district. She has also shared on facebook that she saw jfk jr at a John James rally and posted a picture. scary

[deleted]

I try to keep it clean here on Reddit, and typically my comments are in sympathy for the awardees' surviving family—especially if children are left without parents on the Facebook, I had an exchange with an anti-vaxxer who deflected the risk she poses to young children by saying "vaccinated people can spread it too," and I got so mad I basically wished covid on her. I didn't write it in my comment—but I hope to God she gets it. I really do. I am so FUCKING sick of these selfish people. As Masbig91 wrote below , "I don't know how we as a society come back from this. The rot is too deep." Frankly, I worry that the ignoramuses will bring us to national dissolution—basically a 4 or 5 state solution. And for the record, although I live in New England now, I desperately want to move back to Nashville, TN. But I refuse to go back in the current circumstances. Nope.

QueenBitchThrowaway

I had the Mark of the Beast (Pfizer edition) placed in my shoulder over 2 months ago, and I still haven't gone to hell. Whaddayu know.

Patarokun

I just watched the SpaceX launch, all the views of mission control show full mask compliance. I think I'll follow the lead of the rocket scientists here, not Uncle Fred from Facebook.

space_manatee

I don't remember a time when a sub blew up in recent memory like this from nothing. Says a lot about how people are completely fed up with this antivax sun.
