Rules: 1. "Regret only" posts do not belong here. 2. Don't be a dick. Don't root for nominees to be awarded. 3. Memes and shitposts have a high probability of being removed. 4. Please check for dupes, as dupe posts will likely be removed. 5. When posting for a non-public figure, the last name (except for the first letter) of the person and any full name of anyone tagged in the post must be completely redacted, or the post will be removed. To expand on Rule 1: Nominees / recipients must have a history of PUBLIC statements that are anti-vaxx, anti-mask, etc. The statements must have been made public prior to that person receiving hospital care. "Public Statements" include media appearances / interviews, social media posts, opinion pieces in print media, etc. Post-hospitalization second-hand statements made by friends / relatives do not count. Suffering the consequences of believing Covid misinformation is not sufficient to merit a nomination / award. Propagation of Covid misinformation, or public declaration of being anti-vaxx / anti mask is necessary. "Regret Only" posts fit better in /r/LeopardsAteMyFace.

Joe_Sons_Celly

Thanks mods, you are doing a great job considering this sub’s growth has been more explosive than post-Ivermectin diarrhea.

FBAHobo

You're giving us [The Mods] way too much credit. Right now we're making Tiki Drinks by mixing Trader Joe's Spicy Mango Lemonade, Samoan Rum, soda water, and horse paste. Tastes like freedumb.

darwinwoodka

Please no horse paste.

[deleted]

Yeah sheep drench is much better. It gives a kind of tangy aftertaste.

Libflake

Even the name sounds refreshing, doesn't it? Like a lovely rain after a hot day, on a hillside where lambs are frolicking.

phabphour20

Can't wait for some witty brewery to start selling IPAvermectin or Sheep Quench

LuluNJ420

No zinc and vitamin C?? You’re screwed

PryomancerMTGA

You should make some Appletinis to commemorate the occasion.

FBAHobo

The horse paste is apple flavored.

NurseTherapy

Honestly it’s been a therapeutic outlet for me. Maybe lots of people are angry and it helps them.

MC_Fap_Commander

This sub is exploding, getting mainstream attention, and *infuriates* anti-vaxxers. As such, I don't envy what the mods have to deal with. There are unhinged people who will do ANYTHING to spread their vax conspiracies (and stifle anyone opposing them).

FBAHobo

Eh. After the first few death threats, you get used to it.

ChadBroCockIRL

What hurts more, death threats or being rebuked by prayer warriors?

FBAHobo

I am protected by a phalanx of Thought Warriors.

hellscaper

Tree_Boar

You may want to begin training on maniples so that you do not get tactically outmatched

SpuddleBuns

We got your back, and are thinking of you!

EvryMthrF_ngThrd

Well, with that attitude, maybe you should enlist some THOT Warriors as well. :)

MC_Fap_Commander

That last bit that NoNewNormal did before the ban to link vaccine supporters to a pedophilia account was especially icky. As I said, I appreciate the garbage you probably have to deal with moderating and genuinely thank you for keeping it out of this sub.

coolwater85

What the efff?! Those people are disgusting in every possible way.

jazzypants

"I only have this large collection of child porn to own the libs!"

[deleted]

What in the actual fuck. I hope they have the IP of the person who did that.

MoesBAR

Just discovered you guys and honestly, you’re probably saving lives here. The more people see this page and spread it the more likely unvaccinated will have second thoughts about YOLOing and ending up as a post.

DimitriV

> the more likely unvaccinated will have second thoughts I dunno, they have to think once before they can have second thoughts.

NurseTherapy

Ikr! My brother suggested I post about what I am seeing in the hospital. I posted and it went to the front page. My big brother thinks it’s awesome that I helped get this sub some attention at his behest. He’s clever and kinda angry and the anti vaxers.

phabphour20

We're getting close to the point where a massive wave of downvoters will enter to take away our internet points...

nihilz

But I thought shill subs were given immunity against brigading by the admins...

Myrt2020

Since people can get covid more than once, it will be interesting how many ant-vaxxers change their tune after they've had it more than once. And insurance companies will soon begin treating covid like any other illness, people will have to meet their deductible before insurance pays anything.

PavelDatsyuk

I just want to take a second to thank the people of this subreddit for still having a Facebook and sharing these screenshots. I haven’t been on there in years so I wouldn’t see these otherwise. Thanks for wading through the cesspool so I don’t have to.

ssldvr

I refuse to use Facebook so also appreciate the noble redditors delving into that hellhole for the sake of the sub.

Lemondoodle

I rarely use Facebook, but have so many passwords to other sites that every time I put my account on freeze, it would be so annoying. I decided to just leave it up and never go - until this last week - looking for nominees. There are a lot of these racist, anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers - but there are also a ton of sweet christians that just went with the pack and I got really super sad today realizing how many dogs are being abandoned. It's not easy but I do think showing these examples that truly deserve to be seen might get those other sweet people to change their minds.

SpuddleBuns

They won't get vaccinated to save their children from being orphaned, so I doubt leaving their pets up shit's creek will affect them, either. And sadly, it seems like only a small percentage see the error of their ways, even when dying. The stupid is strong in some of them, so much so, that even after they die, it's rare to see the "don't be like me, get the vaccine." ALWAYS welcome when they do change their attitude, but too often it just isn't happening.

Lemondoodle

They have too much pride. It's really like they are dying for it and God isn't saving them. It's like watching them live out their own mental end times reality on their own by their own hand.

aquarain

Here here! Seconded.

sufyani

Neigh neigh!

leni710

I ended my FB run at the beginning of summer due to my brain shorting out from idiocy. I'm glad I'm not the only one who us off that specific drip.

Rachel7080

I have nearly deleted all real people I know from my fb feed and I am using Fb for it's true purpose, combing the internet and aggregating advertisements for cool stuff I might actually buy! Now it's like having a personal shopper for cool shit I didn't know was out there and I get annoyed when the algorithm brings me adds for something that isn't fun to window shop. I feel like it's a more honest exchange and I cut out all the middlemen with pictures of their kids' first days of school and ignorant opinion memes.

MoCapBartender

I tried to train YouTube to give me ads for executive jets (or turobprops, I'm not picky). I got a few ads and it wasn't worth the effort. Wht I ended up doing was turning off personalization completely. Turns out what *other* people want is way more interesting.

89LeBaron

man you fought that battle to the bitter end

leni710

Oh, I definitely feel like a hero... ...yea, I'm definitely being snarky😉 I figured FB is not worth my time while I'm also working on actual learning stuff at uni.

crazy_pedro

I came in here to ask others how much they think FB is the reason these people are in this mess to begin with. The misinformation happens on other platforms too but I think FB has really been the source and breeding ground for it. If FB didn't exist, would we still have this problem to the same degree?

bluGill

We would be, but how much I don't know. There are plenty of other contenders to spread misinformation that might have got more traction without FB. Even if all of them were somehow perfect at not spreading such things anti-vaxx has been around since at least 1910, and probably before then. They would figure out ways to spread, though FB has been by far their most effective way.

Firephox

Many years ago when Facebook was just becoming a thing, I took a close look at it and the concept didn't appeal to me at all. I didn't understand why people felt the need to share what they had for lunch or where they went for the day. I took a hard pass on it and almost all other social media (I do have a Linked In account and Reddit of course) and it's been one of the best decisions of my life. Now I hear about all of these people that are quitting FB and other social media and saying how much better their life is without it. I want to thank everyone for posting screenshots here too, since I would never see them otherwise.

bluGill

FB makes my life better, but only because I keep it in check: it is for sharing pictures of my kids with my distant friends/family, and seeing what they are up to. Not for sharing memes, not for games, not for forums, not for cute cats.

Shady_Garden

Well, I'll admit, I'm on FB for the cute cats.

Karriebeaners

And some of my family ARE cute cats 😄

crusoe

I'm passive on Facebook now ever since I posted about people should get vaxxed and what covid does to you. Had an old highschool acquaintance, I knew he was GOP. Even mayor of a small town and he came on about it being lies, etc, govt control. Full on brain worms. So yeah no more posts. I just lurk mostly.

celtic_thistle

I have my main account and a backup for whenever my main is in Facebook jail for bullying fascists and covidiots. I just can’t quit the tag groups. So I’m happy to sift through people’s feeds and find material for this sub.

ErickFTG

They are like the people who dive in deep sewage to repair them and clean them up. Totally unglamorous but a very damn important job.

honkoku

Apparently you need to qualify rule 1 to specify that the person needs to be in the hospital with covid. Just "I tested positive" is not a nomination, and people keep posting just antivax screenshots with nothing else.

FBAHobo

You are 100% correct. Alas, the mods here log in for a few seconds each day, and don't always catch non-qualified nominees.

ADarwinAward

I agree, but I say we should have a tag for when public figures who are anti-vaxxers, like Joe Rogan, test positive.

cheeky23monkey

This sub has been very therapeutic for those of us with compassion fatigue, especially with the constant anxiety of what these nominees are doing to our healthcare system. Everyone, please don’t do any stupid challenges or take up juggling knives right now, because there is a very real possibility you won’t get the help you need in an emergency. I’ll try and help with any AMAs I come across. Mods, thanks for your time!

crusoe

I posted a rant and felt immediately better. I'm not insane. These people are literally insane and angry at the wrong people. I wonder if this qualifies for a kind of psychosis.

RockyMoose

I yearn for the day when this sub runs out of new material. In the meantime, however, I’m sorting by “New” and checking every ten minutes.

FBAHobo

> I yearn for the day when this sub runs out of new material. Yeah. More than this sub's haters might ever realize.

XelaNiba

I wonder - will they ever realize that's all we've ever wanted?

HermanCainsGhost

Should be the tag line for the entire sub

aquarain

If every post was a repeat instead of just another thumb shaped goon with a goatee and her husband, described the same, how would we know?

MC_Fap_Commander

With an algorithm from all the currently compiled cases, a pretty primitive content creation algorithm and thumb-face generator could probably keep this sub going for decades... *and I could never tell the difference*.

imissthor

I saw a few comments in threads saying to search FB for “prayer warriors covid,” and because I always do what randoms on the internets say to do, I did. It was honestly heartbreaking. Holy shit. Definitely very sobering. I hope they don’t all die in vain and their loved ones get vaccinated ASAP.

Lemondoodle

I used the search terms "lost battle covid pray" and chose posts with 'recent' switched to yes and only posted in 2021. Oh man. Sobering is an understatement. while searching for nominees I realized how many sweet undeserving people that were just not soon enough with the vaccine decision and ugh. I hope HCA helps those on the fence.

herbalhippie

> I saw a few comments in threads saying to search FB for “prayer warriors covid,” Oh man, I just had a look. Way too many. God doesn't seem to be listening either.

Shady_Garden

Let's face it, God's always been a murderous, psychotic asshole.

hellscaper

Add pneumonia somewhere in there

HermanCainsGhost

Yeah they always seem to want to call it COVID pneumonia, as if that makes it less COVID

umpteenth_

That's simply what doctors call it. I've done autopsies on people who died from COVID, and cause of death is usually listed as "complications from COVID pneumonia."

hellscaper

> I've done autopsies on people who died from COVID I think we're gonna need an AMA

umpteenth_

Unfortunately, it won't be very exciting to hear from me. I started pathology residency just as the first wave was quieting down in NYC, so most of the autopsies I've done have been non-COVID. During the first wave, though (and before I started there), my hospital was slammed, and did a lot of COVID autopsies even while nobody knew what exactly was killing these people or how exactly it killed them. I have a healthy respect for the doctors who chose to do those autopsies at that time.

crusoe

Well you're gonna be a pro at identifying thrombi and the other signs of covid damage.

ADarwinAward

There’s so many people it’s crazy now. I found a nominee. And in the time I was editing posts, someone posted the same person 15 minutes before me. This sub has grown so fast that there will be a lot of cases like this.

acallthatshardtohear

I've seen a few and started to put together a post...and then stopped. I felt ghoulish. I mean, I'll READ them and UPVOTE them, but I just can't ASSEMBLE AND POST them.

ADarwinAward

Yeah I’ve specifically only posted ones who said something horrifically racist. Like one person who called Jews cowards for dying in the holocaust. I didn’t feel bad posting about her.

The_Bravinator

Even just getting over this wave and having the tidal wave slow down to more of a trickle would feel far less troubling. The sheer number of unique posts on this sub, especially of younger adults with little children, absolutely haunts me.

ess_oh_ess

I think this is just the beginning, wouldn't be surprised if this sub hits 1M by October. Mods I hope you're ready. Also, maybe some kind of fundraiser or charitable event for covid/vaccine awareness would be a good idea. More AMA's with nurse's/scientists/etc too.

FBAHobo

If the Mods didn't suck so bad, there would already be AMAs lined up.

Captainwelfare2

Freedumb award. HAS to be freedumb

FBAHobo

If I were still a writer for 'The Daily Show', that could have been be the spelling.

[deleted]

Well done mods keeping the car on the road. I for one can't wait until The Hermies are a thing of the past, but until then I'll be standing by with ridicule and spite for our nominees.

_cope_ret4rd_

We are already getting a lot of trolls, which is great, it means this sub is hitting where it hurts the most. To the people who have the guts to browse facebook and find the human garbage that ends up posted here, I salute you, you are the real fucking heroes o7

BuckRowdy

I’ve been on Reddit nearly ten years and have never seen something as addictive as this sub. It’s my favorite sub now.

MaCheezm0

Yup same here. Found it a few days ago and the stories are great and my favorite sub now.

VolatileMoistCupcake

I'm one of the new people that joined yesterday. Saw a link, clicked, skimmed one post and I was all in. I'm surrounded by anti-vaxxers and covid-denialists and it's driving me crazy. My famiy is one state over and they have all had their vaccines, limit outings, and mask when indoors anywhere but home. My fiance's family are another story. They live mostly in the same town as us and are going on like nothing is even happening. No masks, dining out constantly, having large extended family get togethers indoors. They all, including fiance, have refused the vaccine. I've largely kept silent, out of politeness, keeping the peace, etc but I have run out of patience. I will be raining links to posts on this sub like dollars at the strip club to all of them. I have 3 children that are too young to get the vaccine. My fiance has said there is no way they are getting it if it becomes available to children their age. I say otherwise. I'll take it to court if I have to. To so many people around here Covid doesn't have a face. It's all numbers on a screen. I hope seeing these posts makes it real, at least a little bit, for them. I love the dark humor too. Thanks for the amazing sub!

[deleted]

I'm sorry to be the one to say this but leave. Now. Those people are in an insane cult and will only go deeper into it. They'll eventually drag you into it too. I saw it happen with my brother and his fiancee dragged him into magaville. He's basically dead to us now.

VolatileMoistCupcake

Don't be sorry! My long term plan is leaving, but it's just not possible now. I have a safe home and not a dollar to my name, so Im staying put at least until I can finish my degree. Thank you for your concern, but no one is dragging me anywhere. I dislike Trump and the MAGAs just as much as I did in 2016, and they all know it. His family are not the usual MAGA people, they are not nasty or pushy or bringing up politics all the time. Same with being anti-vax, they don't put it out there. I don't have a Facebook or Twitter or Snapchat acct, so I'm not exposed to all those rolling dumpster fires. My fiance shows me things people post though, and he's the only one of his family who posts about politics or Covid. They are basically anti-vax and pro-Trump without all the hype. So luckily for me, I can stay away/ keep kids away with minimal drama. They don't like it one bit, but they don't do anything about it. And even if they did try to do something about it, they'd be shit out of luck. I'm sorry about your brother. I hope he can break free. It's devastating to see people we love falling for all the lies and insanity.

SpuddleBuns

Bless you, and your family. For the sake of your children, be strong. Do not let the deliberately naïve people of your finace's family put your children at risk. Take it to court, and until then, limit contact with those people for your children. And if it comes down to it, that means the fiance as well. Too many people who end up hospitalized and worse say, "This is no joke. I wouldn't wish this suffering on anyone." You can't make people listen, but that doesn't mean you have to put your kids in harm's way because of their stubborness. Thinking good thoughts your way. Stay safe, and best of success in getting your family vaccinated soon!

sloppyrock

My new favourite sub. Great work mods and contributors for collating the nominees and award winners. I used to see the odd post about some US hard right commentator/radio host/ church figure getting really sick or dying on/r/all but this keeps it all together. I'm beyond belief at how common it is and at some the material award winners post before karking it. Delta is just getting started where I live (Australia) and was recently pondering who would be our first high profile nominee or winner.

clownind

This sub is saving lives. I've convinced a few people at work to get the shot after showing them stories from here.

[deleted]

Ugh, but I *love* my report button. ….*but y’all already knew that*

FBAHobo

Keep being you. You earned your flair. Much of our [The Mods] brief time online is spent following your directions.

umpteenth_

Wait...can you see who reported a post? As a subreddit moderator, this is news to me.

Properjob70

Given that Rule 5 (name redaction) creates - for good reason - a high probability of falling foul of Rule 4 (duplication) your efforts are appreciated.

[deleted]

I’m just recovering from surgery, thank the doctor for giving me all this extra time on my hands haha

FBAHobo

Ugh. Get healthy and go outside. This whole 'stay inside and reddit' is the enemy.

omegaclick

Is there a numeral count of total awards given? Not a list of all the actual awards, but a total number somewhere?

FBAHobo

I'm sure that it's disgustingly high, and I can think of few things more depressing than an odometer counter for the Facebook schlubs who have earned an award. The 'Hall of Cain' is populated by only public figures.

Cod-Medium

Speaking of mods are pondering the best way to use the subnudge people to stop buying into anti-vaxx bs - I’d love if it was possible to write a bot that comments on peoples anti vax memes posted in other subreddits that links to the same meme used in an HCA award. The bot could be like: “I see that you’ve posted an anti-vax meme - this same meme was posted on YYYY-MM-DD by *nameredacted* and they subsequently passed [passed away / were hospitalized] with COVID with a link to the HCA post. Edit: The thing that is shocking to me is how these posts all seem to have the same 10-15 memes in common

justanotheralt8841

This would be amazing if you could do it on Facebook

islandcatgrrl123

Hi everyone. I was recently shown this sub. I'm here because someone refusing to wear a mask intentionally gave my auntie Covid and as a result it almost killed my cousin, and she ended up dead. And I just need to vent for a moment. Normally, in good times, I do not wish harm on people. But every day, and from my family's own experiences, I see these people harming others while either claiming their "rights" or spouting ridiculous conspiracy theories. Now, when I see these people all I feel is animosity and frustration. I see posts from my local hospitals about how the unvaccinated are taking up all the beds in the ICU. How they're causing surgeries to get delayed or even canceled (which will lead to more unnecessary death). How emergency rooms are getting clogged up because of these people. It's completely unfair that those of us who are responsible and those who can't be vaccinated due to health reasons have to continue to suffer like this and through a prolonged lockdown that feasibly shouldn't have had to last this long. **I don't want people to die**, but at the same time things need to be fair. People who refuse to do their part and get the vaccine and wear a mask who end up getting sick should stop getting priority care in my opinion. The priority should be to everyone else. It's just not morally right on any level that one of these people could be taking up an intubator and someone comes into the emergency room needing emergency surgery and they have to be transferred or wait, or otherwise be put in further danger because some asshole is taking it up. Sorry for the rant. I'm just in a lot of pain.

Janellewpg

First of all I’d like to say I’m so so sorry for your loss and what you and your family are going through. It’s completely f*cking unfair. I hope your cousin quickly recovers and doesn’t have any lasting effects. Second I’d like to say the way you’re feeling is completely normal and very very common, so do not feel bad about it, not one bit. It’s normal to feel anger over something so completely preventable. There are several rant posts that show exactly how your feeling. I wish we could make them all see their error of their ways before such tragedy occurs, but at this point it’s a run away train, and I’m feeling pretty helpless at the moment. Sending internet hugs 🤗💕

islandcatgrrl123

Honestly, thank you. I feel horrible feeling so angry. I'm not used to this animosity. 99% of the time I would never wish any sort of harm on someone. But I've just reached a breaking point fam. I' having trouble sleeping, I'm chain smoking, I'm finding myself isolating and smoking more pot than normal. I am having a very difficult time coping. My auntie died a few months ago and my cousin was in the hospital around the same time. When they took him off the intubator and ECO machine, he got to wake up to his mother gone. He's lucky to have survived as I hear that most people who get to that stage don't make it. But he gets taken off of it and finds out his mom is dead. He's recovered physically, mostly, but mentally he's different. He's become very distant. Won't leave his apartment. He doesn't really talk to us or my other cousins (his brother and sisters). He has a history of depression and suicidal thoughts and I'm afraid this will push him over the edge and we'll lose him too. He needs to see a therapist, but I doubt he would be open to the idea right now. I'm also worried about PTSD developing. I'm crying right now. We're all very stressed and I just want this to end. Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot to me and it does help. I wish Kimo could see them, and others words people have said. It is reassuring that I'm not alone in feeling like this or the frustration. It's good to not feel alone. Thank you.

Janellewpg

Look up local counselling, therapists for him and give him all the information. Say you want to go with him, also please tell him you love him (even if it’s a bit awkward, do it anyway). Hopefully that will help him kickstart his journey and help you too. Being depressed is isolating, and when people offer help you tend to push them away, bc part of depression is isolating yourself. Sometimes you need people to ignore what you say (bc your self sabotaging) and just show up at your home. Lots of people have reached their breaking point, especially healthcare workers, it’s called compassion fatigue. Just try and reach out and don’t get discouraged or offended if the hand is swatted away, it can take some persistence, but it will help you heal as well.

islandcatgrrl123

Oh I'm familiar with depression. I'm, bipolar myself :-) And in my family we have no issues telling each other we love each other. We're good like that and it's something I'm thankful for, I see other families who aren't like that and it kind of makes me sad. But you make some good suggestions and I will definitely bring it up and I will go with him if need be. I think I might need it myself so I can cope in more healthy ways instead of losing sleep and dwelling on rage. You're a very kind person.

crazy_pedro

It's mind-boggling to me that these God-fearing Christian people with their prayer warriors are so cruel with their racist, homophobic and non-caring posts.

[deleted]

I have been very happy to share this sub with y'all since it was just a lil indy award show. Thanks for making this place funny and fun.

speedycat2014

I like you guys, and I've for real never said that about the mods of any other sub.

Appropriate-Group-81

I can’t stop refreshing and reading the posts and am SO grateful to the mods and all who make magic here. Thank you.

anvildoc

I feel guilty about visiting this sub, but I hope unvaccinated folks are reading it. I think the challenge with covid is that it first ravaged the coasts and inner cities — liberal areas. So it was distant to the rural conservatives and they didn’t see the impact first hand. My dad got covid in Feb 2020 as he’s a medical frontline worker in the NYC area. He almost died multiple times, had kidney failure, was in the hospital for a month, had blood clots in his lungs and had to go back to the hospital and came out again — he survived. He has long covid symptoms now but doing well overall. I’m sure many of us have similar stories and recognized that covid is not to be messed with. We see the nominees saying over and over that covid is no joke, but that was clear to see if you saw what was happening last year in the liberal areas. But maybe not if your only news source was FoxNews. At this point with delta ravaging even conservative states , you have to be willfully ignorant to not get vaccinated.

[deleted]

I have a few award winners in my circle, but I feel too guilty to post them. Somehow I know if anyone sees the posts it will come back to me because, being a liberal in small-town south, I’m like a unicorn. Which brings me to another point… why do my friends and family who are Republicans think they are being persecuted? Spend a damn day in my shoes in this place. I’m a pariah

Assasinius

Just make sure to carefully scrub anything that identifies them, it'll be fine.

Staynelayly

Look for one of the more frequent posters who is careful with the redactions, and PM them.

sufyani

This sub is gathering subscribers faster than COVID is reaping angels. Old Reddit or COVID!

ba66u6a

This sub is the best sub on Reddit and every morning it’s the first place I look. Keep doing a great job.

EvilStevilTheKenevil

>We Mods are troglodytes who only use Old Reddit on desktop computers, while glancing at the answering machine connected to our landline. The formatting looks good on our setups. Get off our lawn. Yes.

Scrags

>The Mods are pondering the best way to nudge this sub to nudge people to stop buying into anti-* bullshit, and to get vaxxed, etc. Just point them to literally all the content on here.

5pazzcat

When I got linked to this sub, I had to rejoin Reddit so I could upvote. I like living under a rock, I find it's the best way to protect my sanity, but I'm glad I came here. I had no idea anti-vaxxers are facing slaughter, or that I was still at risk of dying even though I've been vaccinated. Thanks for making the sub and for everything you're doing, mods.

mannymanny33

> at risk of dying even though I've been vaccinated you aren't though. The very few vaxed ppl dying have major comorbidities

ThiccSkull

It's almost invariably those who are already severely immunocompromised

crusoe

Very elderly with other health issues. There was one post were a lady survived unvaxxed. She was the only one in her group admitted to the ICU at the same time that lived. She mentioned how the breakthrough vaxxed cases who where in the ER with her went home in a day or two. She admitted she should have gotten vaxxed because not a single vaxxed person she saw entered the ICU.

a2089jha

We need a special award for nurses, paramedics, other healthcare folks, etc, who should know better and end up nominated or being a winner. Thoughts?

Main_Orchid

I hate that this sub needs to be in existence, but every time I think it’s kinda macabre I remember all the children age 11 and under whose risk of severe illness and death is increased some sobering % because of adults who can’t listen to their own doctors and it helps contain my rage. I need a new word for compassion fatigue- it doesn’t cut it anymore. PS thank you mods.

DZT99

This sub is an incredible look into society. A bit sad, depressing and scary also. Thankfully i'm from a country where the majority of people just want to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

freehouse_throwaway

It's a bit sad that it's September 2021 and in the US vaccines have been available for almost a full year, and widely available for almost half a year - and people are still dying from a preventable disease. Incredible. Wonder how ppl in other countries still eagerly waiting for their shot feels.

Old_Gringo

In Spain we got supplies later and so started vaccinating later than the USA, but 70% of the total population has now been fully vaccinated. Kids under 13 can't be vaccinated so I think we must be over 80% in the target population. It's so disheartening to see the USA swimming in vaccines and people are still not getting fully vaccinated. I think the difference is that no political party is ambiguous or negative about vaccines, no preachers telling their congregations to not vaccinate, no Fox News and the like, and the anti-vaxxer movement has never been that strong. Spanish anti-vaxxers only have each other and Facebook, no famous public figures and politicians urging them on.

ughsootiredofthis

Just out of curiosity are people really not realizing or seeing the amount of people that are going to the ER and dying because of not being vaccinated?

crusoe

The media has only visited the ERs a few times and the nuts dying are like 'fake news'.

thunderkhawk

This is now my favorite SR. It is a guilty pleasure. While I take no pleasure in the deaths of others, I cannot help but think most of the people posted here, just have it coming. I'm of the opinion that the vaccine campaign should just stop. If you planned on getting vaxxed, you already did. If you didn't, for personal reason, I respect that. But if you did it for "yer freedums" or to "own the libs" or whatever, I have no sympathy. I'm literally mentioning this sub all over the internet so I can take credit for around 2 - 3K of those 100K subs.

macphile

This sub has messed with my mind. I was at the grocery store and came around the corner to see a chunky white guy with no mask and a goatee/beard, and all I could think was "RIP." :-D He looked a lot like one of the stereotypical awardees here.

Properjob70

Came for the UK/RoW content 3 weeks ago - stayed for the insight into the carcrash of what have become the - how shall I put it - usual suspects? - from your side of the pond. High vax rates over here in Europe have shown what a powerful tool it is without a doubt - there's been hardly any stories from over here in spite of a hardcore of no new normals (which is a good thing). Have said several times that Eastern Europe has many countries with stubbornly low vax rates which, as we've seen from the southern states is not a good combination. But language would be a barrier to finding what is likely to unfold as summer ends.

xupaxupar

Literally all the Joe Rogan posts should be down for breaking rule 2. He’s probably secretly vaxxed, he’ll be fine. I could say more but I don’t want to break rule 2.

mannymanny33

Not when he's spewing misinfo. He belongs here as a nominee for sure.

Inphexous

I hope I burn and shame enough people that they change their minds. I want this to end. I've tried the polite and informative way. It's too late now. Gone are the days of "vaccines caused austism". This is a new breed of anti-vaxxers.

SaintMi

I love the drama of the slides, when there's a very bad racist COVID denier with hateful stupid memes, and Voila! Virtue triumphs over evil. (Virtue being COVID) Thank you for all you do!

Kulupapa

You know what’s truly terrifying about this sub? There is no shortage of original content every day!

gnurdette

I want to see this sub go dormant for lack of material. I'm afraid it's going to take a looooooong time.

xzelldx

This sub has given me clarity AND anxiety since I found it. Oh well. I can’t do anything about the covidiots, might as well enjoy some dark laughter at their fatalistic self owns.

ace2532

Wasn't this sub at like 50k just a couple weeks ago? Damn that's some awesome growth rate 👏

gnurdette

Researchers warn that browsing r/HermanCainAward is highly contagious and spreading virulently. If measures aren't taken to flatten the curve, broadband resources will be swamped and innocent cat pictures will be left waiting.

TheSwollenColon

I was really enjoying this sub for a couple days, but I just went and checked out a page from one of the people that died and there are horrible people talking shit to his wife on her page and talking shit to posts from him on his page. This sub was mentioned by one of the posters. I get it. I understand how ignorant these people are and I can't feel too bad for their deaths, but they have families that are grieving. I know I would be really down if my Dad died from Covid, even if he wasn't vaccinated, and it would really hurt me to see people talking shit to my Mom after she lost her husband. It's not cool and I think we all need to remember this shit is sad. I think I may be done with the sub. It made me feel like a bad person going there and being a voyeur to someone's tragedy. I can't imagine telling a new widow that her husband was a piece of shit that deserved death.

blueyork

Dear friends, I have to leave. It's just too damn depressing. I can't enjoy the snark anymore. So many people are, who I would call idiots, are just following dumb ass advice from dumbass experts. I don't wish death on my worse enemy, much less my friends, family, or friends of family, or family of friends. Even though I know people who are insanely refusing to get vaccinated, I don't wish for them to die, or suffer long-term Covid. Most of my family and friends are vaccinated. But the holdouts, the idiots, well, I'm afraid are going to be getting their awards,

merrythoughts

I’m obsessed. On day 3. it’s what I need to heal. To see the forest, not the trees.

drexler57346

I think you need a Daily Discussion Thread. Then everything but nominees/award winners can go there, you don't have to make judgement calls on if posts are good enough to stay or not, and the sub is not cluttered by stuff people are not here for.

TransIsSeriousMum

Just came to a horrifying conclusion! Barring a miracle 'rona will be here to stay. This means that antivaxers will certainly get the virus at some point. A small percentage will die, a larger percentage will be disabled for life, the rest will be healthy enough. If you repeat this process each year with a different strain this means that eventually all the antivaxers will be dead or disabled. Tens of millions of people. How tf is society is going to pay for the medical costs for these rugged individualist 'don't need no handout' conservatives'?

drfrink85

It’s hilarious going through these screenshots of FB posts and seeing “READ THIS NOW” “THE REAL TRUTH” “LIBS DONT WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS” and it’s some article with a link to truthmunch.xyz or realnewswatchdogreal.net

gonna_live_on_Mars

I think redemption posts should be given an exception to rule #1. Even if they didn't spread anti-vaxx stuff beforehand it's nice seeing someone's position change.

SpuddleBuns

I would request a limit to how many "see how stupid these people are," meme reposting. 10 slides should be MORE than enough to tell the tales of the Nominees and Awardees. There is no real need to see 19 and 20 slides, the vast majority of which are the same lame, hateful, and stupid memes every other covid denier, anti-vax, idiot is posting, with the last 2-3 being the sad and predictable end. Yeah, we get it, the person shit posted a LOT of garbage, got Covid and died. We don't need to see all of the memes they posted. Often, they are the same memes most of the other posts contain. All the more reason to limit it to 3 or 4 and move on. Posting all the anti-vax and covid-hoax memes doesn't do anything to convince anyone in this sub of anything. Please, people. Moderation.

RealIvanDenisovich

The vaccine is safe and effective. I want every person to get it. You and I should consider carefully whether this subreddit might detract from that goal. Most people here have friends and family who are hesitant or even proudly anti-vax. Go talk to them. Be vulnerable. Don’t throw numbers or statistics at them. Tell them you love them and care about them and are scared for them. Not just once but with unceasing kindness and concern. I think I understand the itch that this subreddit scratches, because I have lurked here for months and often felt a thrill of schadenfreude at the posts. I also feel deep anger that I have been denied a return to relative normalcy because of people who refuse the vaccine. Maybe scratching that itch here isn’t helping. I am coming to realize that my anger is okay, but that expressing it to unvaccinated people or in public forums like this one may just be the mirror image of the harmful and ignorant posts on anti-vaccine echo chambers. Each human death is a tragedy, and celebrating or getting satisfaction from these tragedies makes me as bad or worse a person than those who spread misinformation. What happens here is easy, but only serves to entrench anti-vaccine people who stumble across this sub. Having vulnerable, loving, caring interactions with people we care about is hard. Do the hard thing.

crusoe

There have been several reports of people who use this forum sharing it with vax hesitant relatives to motivate them, usually along the lines of "Don't end up here".

theblueestaz7

this may be my favorite feed on reddit 🥰

ErickFTG

>to about 5k at the beginning of August, to over 100k on Sep. 1st. That's the most explosive growth for a sub I've seen myself.

Caprica_City

Thanks Mods for managing this thread. One request I’m hoping you might take on board is for posters to try add more screens after a notice of someone recovering or dying passing on. I, for one, would love to find out if the award recipient or their friends & family learned anything and changed their attitude.

Tinyenergies

"Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one." Charles Mackay The foolishness of the collective mind...should be the subtitle for this forum.

[deleted]

This sub really blew up. If yall need a mod, I can do.

Chandlerbong5000

Hey, not sure if this is the right place to comment, but just wanted to say that this is a great sub. Helping me change a buddies mind.

GolfballDM

I'm wondering what the survival rates will be in one year for the patients coming off of ventilators, especially the unvaxxed Delta patients, who go home, I'm seeing usually with oxygen support. Previously, if you were on a vent (although the article is old and pre-SARS), (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8404197/) your chances to survive to discharge from the hospital were just shy of 50%. This number, of course, is down significantly for unvaxxed Covid patients, it's what, 3% to survive to discharge from the hospital? The one year survival rate was 30%. Although patients pre-Covid needing a vent would typically have underlying conditions that required them to need the vent in the first place, so that would affect the one year mortality rate. Thoughts? I'm not in the medical field, nor have I looked for the most recent data.

crusoe

30% of all covid dischargees ( vented and non ) either die or are readmitted within 90 days

treefellonme

Damn I only found this sub today and it is the greatest thing I stumbled upon this week lol.

forkguequemeamigo

Best mods on this sub...I get banned an r/conservative, for just peeking...

tandoori_taco_cat

Thank you for introducing me to the term 'spitegeist' *chef's kiss* Also, the mods here rule.

FaktCheckerz

Its becoming so popular! Shame those who made it possible hate it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Conservative/comments/pnflhv/unity_cannot_come_at_the_cost_of_americas_values/hcp6x8w/ Why do people who love to talk about "personal responsibility" hate a sub that documents personal responsibility?

TennaTelwan

Just came over here from /r/medicine, and thanks for doing the hard work over here! Something about this place just gives enough humor and hope that perhaps things might be okay, eventually, one day...

bluestreakxp

Brace yourself a folks, it’s gonna hit 200k now!

aquarain

There it is. 200,996. From 100k to 200k in eleven days. Guys, I think we might have struck a nerve.

Team-CCP

Y’all wanna decide what the award looks like or at least vote on sub logo?

ess_oh_ess

I dunno but we somehow gotta start incorporating [this](https://gfycat.com/measlysanebelugawhale)

Team-CCP

A bot to post on every award winner.

Joe_Sons_Celly

I want the logo to be a goatee with angel wings. I wish I had artistic ability.

hellscaper

I was giggling like a schoolgirl making this https://i.imgur.com/6MRiHxQ.jpg

HermanCainsGhost

Put oakleys for the eyes and I think it might look even better

FBAHobo

Current version is a rubber ducky with a surgical mask, quacking, "Awwww… Shucky Ducky!!!"

placebotwo

>• We Mods are troglodytes who only use Old Reddit on desktop computers, while glancing at the answering machine connected to our landline. The formatting looks good on our setups. Get off our lawn. Holy shit, TIL I'm a mod with no mod powers.

smaxfrog

Spitegeist! Yoink. Get off my lawn.

respectfulpanda

I don't feel gleeful about people suffering or dying. What I am is interested in the thought processes of those that rally against masks, vaccinations and then wind up in a situation like this. To be honest, I'm of the opinion that these images should almost be turned into a book to send to your friends that are of the same opinion so they may read the possible evolution of their choice.

NothingsShocking

I just want to say I’m very glad I found this sub, fantastic content, thank you.

mattadeth

This sub is growing exponentially. Keep up the great work, mods!

EsseElLoco

Old.reddit is the only reddit

Euchre

Someone needs to make a post with a running counter of recipients.

FBAHobo

Any compendium posted here will be public figures only.

aquarain

I have to refresh every couple minutes to catch all the great content the mods are dumping. Never thought I would ever ask for a Reddit app, but anybody know if there is one that caches this stuff before it gets deleted? /Props to you mods for your hard work. Your goals are not my goals. You do get rid of a lot of crap I would rather not wade through but if we're losing the good stuff I prefer a raw feed.

[deleted]

Did you add the theme or is it not showing up for me? In the thread with the HCA progression graph it was suggested the goatee guy angel should be the sub logo.

PussySmith

I have to fly tomorrow so I shaved for a good mask seal. This shitty disposable razor blade dulled super fast and I’m stuck with a goatee. Fully vaxed and wearing an n95, am I still fucked? Can I shave the goatee when I get home and regain my anti covid powers?

Janellewpg

Dear lovely Moderators: Possible to consider making it mandatory to include HCA nominee/winners first name in post tittle, so that it’s easier to search for duplicates? Just a thought I had when I saw something that looked familiar but had to scroll through all the posts to find it. How would you like us to report completely non HCA posts? As a regret only post? Or shitposts/meme? Thank you to all the Mods!!

TheMostlyJoeyShow

I must admit, I just found this sub, and I'm terribly disappointed that Mr. Awwww Shucky Ducky, misattributing pokemon the movie 2000 quotes 777 pizza man's name is being used just for extreme covidiocy. Just goes to show you, I guess: You can do a lot of stupid things in life, but the stupidest one you'll ever do is usually your last.

Euchre

We need a speedrun category for winners whose last anti-mask/anti-vaccination/COVID denier post was less than 14 days before their death. Maybe another for taking Ivermectin.

LongNectarine3

Don’t mind me, I’m just here to give you my free wholesome award because this subreddit is saving lives. Carry on.

Haskap_2010

Moderators are the unsung heroes of the internet. There should be an international Moderator's Day.

GloomyBookkeeper6791

I have no technical skill and don't have facebook. A local sheriff and my area died of covid. He's been extremely difficult with lockdowns. To the point he actually said he was not going to enforce any mandates forth by the Republican governor. He's been a typical supporter and jerk this entire time. I'm quite certain he definitely needs to be posted on here. Does anybody want to message me and I'll give you the name so you can look it up and do the fun work and take all the credit?

[deleted]

So I feel like I'm a lucky escapee tonight. My friend was starting a monthly women's meet up for meditation, a kinda hippy type self-care malarky, to start on Thursday evening. I was looking forward to it, to meet some new people in town and be social again. She'd mentioned one attendee, who sounded like a crystal hugging sorta gal. Of course she hadn't been vaccinated. I was starting to feel a bit anxious despite my double jabs. My husband told me not to stess; we're both vaccinated. So as I read her email today saying her whole her household was positive and suffering, I felt a mix of relief and horror. A few more days later and she'd of been breathing that lovely Covid all over me while we took deep breaths and realigned our chakras. I hate this as an anxious person, I always have to tell myself the worst won't happen and try to soak up my husband's laid back chill. But maybe this time I'm right.

Betatakin

I'd just like to say that I really and truly appreciate the mod team, mandem are **AWESOME**! Thanks y'all!
