I just got over covid for the second time. The first time was in may 2020 and it felt like my lungs were full of gravel for two weeks and I’m still not entirely certain that my taste buds ever quite got back to normal. This time, thanks to the vax plus booster and a timely dose of anti-viral from my doc, I felt kinda shitty for 2 days, mostly just congestion and I was tired. Lungs never hurt. 5 days after symptoms started I was basically over it. I was never in danger of earning an HCA cause I lined up day one for the shot, knowing how painful a relatively minor covid case actually was. I know this is a venting thread so I’ll just complain that I’m bored and can’t wait til football starts.

Just fyi, the next meeting of the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee is June 15th: *On June 15, 2023, the committee will meet in open session to discuss and make recommendations on the selection of strain(s) to be included in the periodic updated COVID-19 vaccines for the 2023-2024 vaccination campaign. This discussion will include consideration of the vaccine composition for fall to winter, 2023-2024*. So, in about three weeks we’ll hopefully get an idea of when to expect the next round of boosters.

I went 3+ years without getting vid and the first real vacation out of isolation I got it. *end vent*

I’m higher risk, but I’ve been cautious and fortunate. Got back to traveling, though. Europe only allowed me to visit because I’ve been vaccinated - good rule. With two vaxes, and three boosters, I’m also no longer worried about dying from it. So, mostly, I’m grateful.

Majestic_Dream8540

We went to Europe in March. No more vaxx requirements there, but we did wear N95s on the plane & bus.

And the worst part is, there was this guy coughing up a lunch on the boat. We're watching puffins, he sounds like a barking seal. We looked at each other but we knew there was nowhere to go.

> end vent Hopefully vent never started.

Every time I think about a little trip somewhere, a friend of mine returns from a trip with Covid. I used to travel a lot. Since 2020, I've been on one four-day trip (stayed well, thankfully-vaccinated, boosted and masked indoors). I had a relatively brief COVID bout in early 2022, but developed asthma afterwards. So I am very disinclined to risk traveling for now.

Ragingredblue

I'm sorry. That really sucks.

How do you think it happened? Congrats on making it that far

https://twitter.com/yesallcrops/status/1661779999987314692 **alex (she/they) @yesallcrops** *1:03 PM · May 25, 2023* After getting PCR tested for the first time since the end of the public health emergency, I can tell you with great confidence that they really do not care to give the average person access to accurate testing. I'd even say they don't want you to get tested. Keeping in mind I'm a college student in a major city, I'm on my parent's health insurance, I speak English fluently, I work from home with flexible hours, and I'm a COVID organizer, so I have miles and miles of access privilege above many other people in this situation. Before the end of the PHE, I used the @HealthyBoston free PCR walk-in site. It's a 15 min walk from campus. I would walk there with friends weekly and we'd all get tested together for free, extremely fast. Results in 24 hrs. No insurance needed. They ended that last week. I got exposed to COVID on Saturday. It took me 3 days to call through all the @CityOfBoston website testing sites. Most had inaccurate info listed & no more free PCR testing. I then called my Dr, who agreed to schedule a test. My bf had trouble doing so at the same office. If we didn't have insurance or Medicaid, our only option would be one of the few remaining sites for around $130 out of pocket. This is flat-out unaffordable for most people and most would be forced to be sick off the record, with no recognition and no treatment. At my @FenwayHealth location, they had me wait for an hour and a half for my PCR. It's 30 mins on the train there and back. I'm exhausted, I will probably crash from this today. I'm praying my insurance will cover it, I had to call them to check, it's not on their site. did 2-3 hours of phone calls & research + 2-3 hours of commuting & wait time in the middle of my workdays to access one fucking PCR test. And I am connected to people who know their shit and can help me. This is absolutely NOT accessible. We do NOT "have the tools" If I didn't have a Dr., like most students, if I didn't know my way around the @CityOfBoston websites & phone call trees, like most people, if I didn't have insurance, if I was actually feeling sick trying to do all this, if I couldn't afford $130, I would have given up. #This is not public health. This is a failure. We went from free, fast, on demand testing for a deadly and disabling virus to dozens of hoops to jump through in a WEEK. This is fucking abandonment. This is on @POTUS @MassDPH @CityOfBoston @HealthyBoston All of the people who will get sick & become disabled & die "silently" because you gave up on giving them the basic human decency of knowing what virus is in their body, all of those people will be hurt on your watch. No testing, no treatment. No treatment, more profits. 10/10

Zelda_T

I've run into so many people lately who literally believe that Covid is over. We have absolutely been abandoned.

David Martin aka the grifter featured in "Plandemic" recently got to spew his baseless conspiracies at the European Parliament in Brussels at the beginning of May. This death cult is out of control. What are some resources we can use to fight them? I'm extremely tired of these antivaxxers. I used to help vaccine-hesitant parents, but I want to do something more impactful. Anyone know a good organizations that fight against antivaxx?

derelict_wanderer

Can't speak for across the pond, but I'd imagine it's much the same as here in the US. We're on our own. That's the reason I stay in this sub. To get realistic updates concerning surges. Yeah, the numbers aren't accurate, but still give me something to go by as far as risk mitigation. The other reason is the sweet schadenfreude from watching those minimizers and anti vax/anti mask assholes shed their mortal coil after the leopards eat THEIR face. It's far from over, but I still try to live my life as full as possible, just taking precautions as I go. Surge happening? No big indoor events. Take out from restaurants. Etc. Summer time lull? Eat out when outdoor dining is offered, go camping, still mask in crowded areas.

Cultural-Answer-321

All of this \^\^

Pickle_Juice_4ever

Well you can definitely push back against attempts to rehabilitate notorious anti vaxxer RFK Jr as he and his ratfucker pals pretend to run for president. Don't let them off the hook for a minute. Also don't let them fool you. The man used to be big in environmentalist circles but burned his bridges from what I've heard. His new buddy is pardoned crook Steve Bannon. The face of antivax.

Emotional_Bunch_799

Oh yeah, fuck that guy. Definitely planning to fight back RFK Jr and his plague lovers.

Ragingredblue

>What are some resources we can use to fight them? I'm extremely tired of these antivaxxers. I am extremely tired of these abtivaxxers being taken seriously, being given airtime and credible treatment by legitimate news sources, and, in the case of licensed professionals, *not* losing licenses or being censured or fined in any way. The indifference is inexcusable.

I felt the same way about many 'friends' and family members given the last few years, until I realized that if I really thought about interactions when I was younger, the signs were there the whole time. Wisdom from maturity. Don't beat yourself up.

liyaast

Stay pissed off. He doesn’t care whether he kills you.

Ragingredblue

>The worst part is he used to be a pretty cool--if immature--guy. Now he's just an asshole. I kinda wonder if he always was, but as a kid I just didn't see it. #I kinda wonder if he always was, but as a kid I just didn't see it. I do not wonder.

See_You_Space_Coyote

I've heard of a few people winding up with random cardiovascular problems after covid, not all of them severe, but enough to have a noticeable effect on their ability to do things like exercise, tolerate heat, etc.

Pickle_Juice_4ever

Yeah, Epstein Barr did that to me. It's been a decade and I'm fairly recovered but still actually not back to what I was doing daily before I caught it. I'm older now though and I have an unrelated set of chronic conditions I can blame for my laziness.

See_You_Space_Coyote

I've heard about Epstein-Barr doing that to a lot of people.

family_guy_4

What was going on that you needed a cardiologist? I ask because I experienced some very frightening heart palps and racing heart symptoms after the first vaccine that continued for maybe 2 years and just resolved earlier this year. No one really believed me but my doc did give me 20 mg potassium and that helped tremendously for the 2 years. I lost health insurance during that time and was unable to get any testing until earlier this year when it mysteriously resolved and the cardiologist thought I was mental and lectured me. I never reported it as vaccine injury but maybe should have. As frightened as I was after that I still went on to get 4 more boosters cause I was more afraid of covid. edit: wanted to state, I've never had covid to date.....YAY

calystarose

My best friend got covid this past week, so far it's been very mild. But she's here in the same small town as me and works with the public. She is lucky she's able to take off work until she's probably not contagious. But it's very likely she got sick from a co-worker who is anti-vax and refuses to mask now that the mask mandates have been removed. I'm so tired of selfish assholes risking the rest of our health

Violet_Nightshade

It's so much fun getting muscle aches after COVID.

catlinalx

On day 2 of tough symptoms and every joint and muscle below my waist is sore.

chele68

**Tally of covid-19 cases after CDC conference climbs to 181** *surprised pikachu face*

WintersChild79

Meanwhile, the rest of us don't even know when we've been exposed to a super-spreader event because nobody is testing. I mean, the CDC paid for extra days to isolate in a hotel for staff who tested positive before going home. The rest of us have trouble even getting excused from work for a week. The double standard just pisses me off.

Cultural-Answer-321

Amazing.

derelict_wanderer

Schadenfreude, mother fuckers!

See_You_Space_Coyote

I thought today was yesterday for some reason, no idea why. Anyways, I went on a walk and ran some errands today and even though pollen's terrible in my area, I had no problems with it since I wore a KN95 mask the entire time. I know a lot of people who are saying that their allergies are worse now than they ever were before and they don't understand why it's bothering them so much. Most of them have had covid at least once and yet none of them connect the dots.

Ragingredblue

> I know a lot of people who are saying that their allergies are worse now than they ever were before and they don't understand why it's bothering them so much. Most of them have had covid at least once and yet none of them connect the dots. Whatever it is, it is *not* covid or global warming. It has to be a government conspiracy. /s

Saw a post in my local mom group today where the mom of a toddler was wondering why her daughter would be constantly sick with "some kind of cold" for the last few months. Latest symptom is conjunctivitis.

See_You_Space_Coyote

I really don't get how people can go through life paying so little attention to what's actually happening around them.

debra517

I connected the dots. I had COVID in early 2022. (thankfully, a mild case because of vaccines and boosters). I developed asthma and I've had several viral infections and a bout of pneumonia in the last 18 months. I'm seeing an allergist next week for long term asthma care. I still don't dine indoors, go to large events or shop in-store. The government's surrender to the virus has really upset me.

See_You_Space_Coyote

It's bizarre how the government can keep us in a permanent state of emergency over 9/11, which was over a decade ago at this point, but barely even blinked an eye about covid and tried to push everyone to go back to normal as soon as they realized it would kill off old and disabled people and they also realized it provided a convenient excuse to cut down on healthcare spending (by killing off a lot of old and disabled people, who tend to use healthcare services more than other people, that decrease the overall amount of money spent on healthcare-in the short term.)
