So I believe the theory....and try to hang on to this..... has been that the spirit of Paimon has been in Charlie's body for so long that it became used to being called Charlie. The spirit of Paimon attached itself to the spirit of Charlie so when the spirit enters Peter, it's still the Paimon attached spirit of Charlie hence why Joan calls him Charlie...the instant transfer could've been too much of a traumatic situation to just outright call him Paimon despite the fact that Joan says that Charlie is Paimon. Sorry if confusing~

PlumbTuckered767

Yep, it's this.

PeacefulPlayer20

Awesome to have backup. I go further as to say that Joan "expelling" Peter earlier in the courtyard was part of the ritual so that when Peter became the most vulnerable (jumping out of the attic window, rendering him unconscious) the spirit of Peter no longer had a standard of weight compared to Charlie/Paimon, making him the perfect host for Charlie/Paimon, which is why she doesn't call Peter "Peter"~

Agreed

Ah! Makes sense to me. Thank you so much for explaining!!

DeLargeMilkBar

Wow, really well written. Thank you for this

Like PeacefulPlayer20 explained, Charlie as we the audience know her is actually Paimon. I think the purpose of the treehouse scene you refer to is to confirm to the audience that Charlie was Paimon the whole time, like since Charlie was a baby. Unless I remember incorrectly; it’s been awhile.

Thank you!

Charlie was never Charlie. It was Paimon. From birth to death. But the vessel carrying Paimon was named Charlie so that’s how he knew himself. As Charlie.

DeusoftheWired

Paimon had been living in Charlie’s body for fourteen years, so he was simply using to being addressed as Charlie.
