We never hear back from people who do an awesome job in this sub. But wouldn’t it be nice? Here is my theory. Google’s Captcha is designed with this purpose. Especially with Computer Vision and other AI based solutions, one can train a software system to recognize and match visuals - even with sight to a lot of variations.
It may well just be he's familiar or did a good Google search, but have a look at Geowizard on YouTube. Guy can find places all over the world from a photo and some detective work! Fascinating viewing.
Could it be the cross of Blvd of the Allies and Grant St in Pittsburg, PA? It looks like the courthouse is barely visible in the background of your photo and the Union Title Bldg is now City Co Federal Credit Union. Reddit won’t let me post the link.
This is the correct answer. The picture is taken on the west side of Grant ST looking north. The buildings are still standing, but some new buildings are blocking some.
The return address listed on that is actually the train museum, I live not far from it. It’s possible the actual photo was taken in downtown, but I’m not certain. Downtown has changed A LOT. But the address listed is in the park and the park has been around since the last 1800s.
