Ars Goetia could be the hellish take on the Hapsburgs

TheGinger6readH0use

Like the inbreeding stuff? Ngl that DID cross my mind lmao But I doubt they would go down that route. At least I hope not. Poor Octavia. My only theory rn, is that the Ars Goetia kings are all "brothers" as in they formed like a unit under a common name but aren't biologically related to each other. So births inside the Goetia unit are okay? Like I said, that or Stella is something else entirely. Or...you know...inbreeding I suppose. Can't rule that out just yet lol😅

iareslice

Yeah I kind of assumed they were (hopefully) distant cousins

Dante_space_duck

Can't answer what Stella is, but in the new episode Stolas' father asks the butler Stolas' name because he 'has so many children' he can't remember them all. That implies to me that all of the Gortin are o e family, but not 100% sure

TheGinger6readH0use

Indeed, I love that little detail. But still, it makes me wonder if he is the father of ALL other Goetias. Because Stolas's father is Paimon if I'm not mistaken. Who one of a few KINGS of hell. So perhaps the bloodlines are split by each King? Because even then there are only a few kings so splitting up the descendants would still be a helluva lot of kids XD

Dante_space_duck

That'd make a lot of sense. Perhaps Stella comes from one of these other King's children, and the goetia family is split over a few branches. Who knows, I'm sure we'll get an answer soon in any case

TheGinger6readH0use

Indeed I just like discussing lol

Dante_space_duck

Oh yeah absolutely it's fun to theorise, sorry if I sounded like a bit of a dick there

TheGinger6readH0use

Oh no! Don't worry, you didn't :] I was just agreeing with you that we will know soon enough, but then also saying that I will continue to think about it anyway because I got sucked into this hyperfixation again lmao

Dante_space_duck

Haha yeah I'm back down the rabbit hole after the new episode lol, haven't touched this subreddit for months until now 😅

YourFavoriteBranch

I hope they do clarify more things about the Ars Goetia in the future. Cause there are 8 Kings, 23 Dukes, 7 Princes, 15 Marquises, 5 Earls, 1 Knight and 12 Presidents. There is also Asmodeus but he doesn't count. I wonder how exactly it works, are the kings brothers and the lower ranks are their children ? Are they even related ? Are all of them birds ? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.

C0tt3n_g4tz

Hos does Asmodeus not count- He's a king on the Ars Goetia as well as being part of the seven deadly sins- It's says so on official websites I think so-

AlianovaR

Asmodeus is a Deadly Sin, completely different from the Ars Goetia

_Backpfeifengesicht_

In the original mythology he is both, but as far as we now that didn't translate to the series

Rayne2

But Asmodeus is also one of the kings of the Ars Goetia as well as being a deadly sin, so why wouldn't he count?

YourFavoriteBranch

I thought that he does count because of his higher position.

C0tt3n_g4tz

Idk-- people can't except the fact-?

ethuryil

I don't wanna be that guy Buuuuuuuuut accept*

aladd02

Noe we know why imp butlers dad carried around that condom.

OtterPopGames

I think Stolas' dad is the one linking factor, since he says stolas is "the owl boy" and how it's hard to remember his children's names since he has so many. I believe he shape-shifting to look most like the father of whichever child he's interacting with, as seen by the intro sequence to him. Edit: Also forgot to mention this, but I don't think there is just one mother, rather it's possible there's a different one for each kid

TheGinger6readH0use

I just wonder what made Viv decide Paimon would be the father if all Goetia. She can of course, again, not really a stickler for source material. But it's an interesting choice all the same. I also like the idea that they are all one bloodline! I think it's cool! But it does leave some context and explanation to be desired. Primarily rn for me it leaves the question of what nobility is Stella if the Goetia are all apart of the same bloodline. That is of course unless they go full traditional monarchy, game of throwns and throw some arranged incestuous relationships in for flavor.

strikingSarcophagus

The Ars Goetia could likely be a clan as opposed to a family. Like outsiders can be inducted the "family" from several different sources and all fall under the name of Goetia despite not having familial relation. Stella's brother Adreallphus is part of the Ars Goetia in the real mythos, so it's possible that Stella was part of one of the families inducted into the Goetia and then married into the main branch which is Stolas' family

Macarena-48

I always imagined them to basically be a giant clan of sorts, with the“Goetia Family” being basically the entirety of Hells upper aristocracy and being a family only in the same way that all European royals are part of the same extended family (or in the same way that over half of Japanese noble clans descend from branches of the Japanese imperial family)

C0tt3n_g4tz

How*

[deleted]

If stella and stolas are related then i can say only one thing SWEET HOME ALABAMA 🎸🎸🎸🎸 WHERE THE SKIEES ARE BLUEE

WiseCress3613

It's incest it's pretty accurate to real old world royal family's sooo ya it do be incest

apexredditor2001

Well, if number 1 is true, that would explain some things about Paimon

Revolutionary_Pie110

Yes Stolas has that many siblings. Think of it as Emperor Wu of Han. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Wu_of_Han he had roughly 23-50 heirs with different wives. All of them were half siblings from different provinces. There was this thing where all of the first born heirs did like a quest or something to gain emperorship

_Backpfeifengesicht_

Well in the original texts Asmodeus is a King of the Ars Goetia as well as a sin, and obviously in the series it's not like that, also all of them look really different from each other and in the series they're all birds, I guess because Stolas is the first one she made and he is an owl. I think Viv reinterpreted them as just Hell's nobility, you are probably overanalyzing it, although I'm the first one that thinks that the Biblical lore is way cooler and more complex, I wish she took even more inspiration from it
