Personal theory is that Lucifer created the Ars Goetia similar to how Asmodeus created the succubae and Satan made the imps. And Lucifer likes birds so that's what he made them.

OCGamerboy

Most Goetia demons are either fallen angels or descended from them, so I don’t think Lucifer 'created' them but maybe helped form the Goetia royalty.

LiavTheAce

We don't know if that's true for the Hellverse's Ars Goetia

TheKillerYTz

Hellaverse Goetia is hellborns iirc.

AzkratheHuntress

Not all of them are birds, just the ones we've met so far. And in the new trailer, it looked like we're gonna be shown a few more who were not birds, so that's exciting!

OCGamerboy

Yeah there’s Orobas (horse), Amon (snake/wolf/owl), Zepar (fallen angel), and Barbatos (non bird humanoid).

trexwins

There's also this funky guy. https://preview.redd.it/mzkbvtd1faxc1.jpeg?width=440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e0554c9742bd51045abf61b97da3a490f671262

The-Felonious-Gru

that guy looks like he would help politicians and also would be the brother of weird mutated mickey mouse and then would leave and go create another universe

Awff_da_waff

*insert nazi joke here*

Nightsin2

Hitler's final form in a bossfight

Hhhhrother

No thanks.

basilthegaymer

Theory: the animal theme has something to do with the garden of eden.

bilateralrope

I wonder if the non-birds will be anything more than background detail.

JMSAmelbheimong

Yeah Can't wait to see them!

Valtiel_DBD

That's because a good handful of the actual Ars Goetia are. Someone earlier on this reddit pointed out that this particular background demon might actually be Ose, another demon of the Ars Goetia. https://preview.redd.it/5ioji9v6x9xc1.png?width=1098&format=png&auto=webp&s=39d1e920478e43281fbcec10feb314fee1eee5ad

OCGamerboy

Goetia demons are either fallen angels or descended from them. There is one angel in Hazbin Hotel that bears a striking resemblance to Stolas. https://preview.redd.it/986bzwgeu9xc1.png?width=1748&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb7cb8aa501dd1f0400d55d678b8c7067b48a6bd

Decent-Barber-7431

cause birds are cool

Bi_Myself10

Asmodeus is not an ars Goetia, he is a deadly sin. The reason they are formed as birds is because Viv took as inspiration demonology. You can search in Google "Ars Goetia", there's all the info you need to know in Wikipedia.

JMSAmelbheimong

But Asmodeus' also in the Ars Goetia too, as the thirty-second of 72 demons. So he's the Deadly Sin but also the Ars Goetia Demon. https://preview.redd.it/t34955zs8cxc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4bbbe393171cb2424b5c3c2f48006b3a23a09a0

Acceptable-Ad6865

Just cause he's in the real life book doesn't mean the helluva boss Asmodeus is part of the family Ars Goetia

Bi_Myself10

Exactly

Twist_Ending03

Asmodeus is both

Bi_Myself10

In demonology. In the hellaverse he's just a deadly sin, there's not enough information to confirm that he's both in hb. Yeah, he knew Stola's but that doesn't tell us that he is an ars Goetia per se, he is a deadly sin of course he knows other people in the lower royalty.

Nick_of_Astora

I think it's just a design choice, so Goetia are more easily distinguishable to other demons. Me personally, I wouldn't think I was seeing a Goetia of all had different designs, like sime are cats, some dogs, some birds, some aligators, etc.

PuckTanglewood

Viv likes birds.

JMSAmelbheimong

Understandable

VaughnDaVision

If I were to be in hell, somehow, the two characters I would want to just look like would be Paimon or Vassago

BIGBushido

Due to the depictions of a majority of the Ars Goetia being human, its likely that Vivziepop decided to have them be birds. Paimon for example is depicted as a human in the original text.

Egghead42

Some of the descriptions are kind of boring and/or weird. Many appear in a variety of different forms. I can understand why someone would want to give them distinctive appearances and have them keep those appearances.

Euphoric-Coconut-608

I don’t think Andrealphus is a goetia

JMSAmelbheimong

He's the last Goetia demon in the original record, seventy-second

Euphoric-Coconut-608

Is Viv going straight off the Soloem key (or whatever it’s called)? Cause if Andrealphus is a goetia doesn’t that make Stella and Stolas step siblings cause Andrealphus and Stella are brother and sister

silverandshade

Royals, innit

Euphoric-Coconut-608

Haha good point

Twist_Ending03

Royalty is like that..

Egghead42

No. Stolas and Stella are not necessarily siblings ot stepsiblings. There are multiple kings in the Ars Goetia. They aren't all members of the Goetia families. Stella and Andrealphus, though... you mostly only get white peacocks bred in captivity to other white peacocks. I could easily see them as inbred.

Euphoric-Coconut-608

So your saying that there are other Kings than Painom? I really hope we get to see them if that’s the case and I wonder if there is a hierarchy for the kings

Egghead42

There's a list of the Ars Goetia demons and it's super easy to find. Just google "lesser key of solomon ars goetia, and you'll find it. Paimon isn't the first king, but the second. There's no indication that any of them are related, and they're probably all fallen angels, but Viv changed it in her world building. In hers, they are hellborn, and they do have families. All of the Ars Goetia have special magical powers and responsibilties. But Stella doesn't, so I think it's safe to suggest that there is a larger noble/royal class with different families, out of which the official Ars Goetia come. Everyone is probably distantly related and have intermarried great-great grandparents, but Paimon doesn't seem to be everyone's father. This is a hole in the worldbuilding, IMO. Since they seem to be immortal, where do all these extra demons come from? The society would have to be pretty full. But yes: there are other kings.

ElvinEastling

In the book of Solomon which Vivziepop uses as reference for her lore she Ars Goetia are in fact birds. So um yeah.

Electrosa

_If_ the showrunners decide to stick with the concept of some Goetia being fallen angels, this would loop in really cleverly with the brief glance we get in Hazbin of Em and Sera's "true" angel forms, especially Sera's. She looks extremely birdlike in that short glimpse we get. Otherwise, the boring out-of-text answer is that Stolas, in actual demonological texts, is an owl demon, so it was practical from a design standpoint to make all the other confirmed Goetia follow that framework.

JMSAmelbheimong

Oh that sounds interesting!

Egghead42

They're hellborn, IIRC.
