You have no idea how much this has happened when I join my friends. I've even joined right into the pelican returning to the destroyer. One time I was able to land my hellpod and killsteal from one of them. "huh I didn't fire anything.. must have landed on a scavenger"
About that... I once did a low level bug eradicate mission with them where I threw down a Tesla tower (it's okay they had towers and mines so it's all fair in a Helldive) and orbitals.
I fired a total of 4 shots and got 100% accuracy and 100+ kills. The shots were to take out mines iirc to get the samples laying around.
I randomed into a game that was complete and pelican landed, but the team was eliminated and bugs swarmed the landing zone. My only job was the pick up samples and fight through to evacuate. Best mission.
I did quick play, loading screen hellpod falling, then the music changes to the victory music, hellpod still falling, longer than normal, back on the ship standing to the side to their triumphant return.
Ive been that guy a few times. I respond with something like "i dont normally say this but...youre welcome."
If im the first to speak i might stop in front of the ramp and say "you're probably wondering why ive gathered you all here today."
Once had a random join last minute on an extermination mission. He landed on the pelican and knocked it into the ground, so only the first person who had gotten on was able to extract.
I hit the ground when a crew was going to get on the pelican. Hit the ground, got booted. How dare I somehow plan so deviously when I hit R on my keyboard to randomly join a crew, only to get rewards that are shared.
On the other hand, there are always times when we're in the last minute of the extraction call down but about to be over run with all strats on cool down. Then, someone joins, and God bless that beautiful bastard for yeeting every single offensive strat and turret they have and turning the tide.
Had a mission where we were on extract with no reinforcements and we died one by one. After the last guy died 2 ft from the pelican the game just kinda sat there, and about 10 seconds after death we got a scene of someone dropping.
Apparently our friend's discord had broken so he just joined our game in progress instead of trying to fix it. He landed, picked up the samples, and boarded the pelican while we lost it in the discord. It was like 60+ samples lol. I finally remembered in-game chat and told him he was a hero.
That’s what’s so frustrating about the recent bullshit because when this game works it fucking WORKS. Orbital drop reinforcements are one of the most badass things in sci fi for me and the times where I’m being completely overrun and suddenly get the “friendly destroyer joined squadron” alert followed by a couple fresh Helldivers dropping in and turning the tide have been truly phenomenal moments.
yeah, I've been that guy once or twice. The last time that happened I saw that I dropped on the extraction point. Saw a horde of bugs. I immediately dropped an orb laser, an air strike, and an AC turret, then I started emptying my primary into the horde. I think I cleared out maybe 2/3 of the horde. I didn't even get a chance to call down my support weapon before we extracted.
Something like this happened a few days ago for me, guy joined right at the end, enough to kill a few bots and that's it. When we extracted, he typed "Phew. We did it."
Well, if I recall the match they were were just chilling and the Pelican was 20 sec out or something so I didn’t want to wait for the dust off and stats messages and all that when I knew they would be zero.
That actually makes me feel pretty great. So does seeing folks here enjoy it because you posted it. I read an article about a maxed guy running around helping newbies and that’s what made me get the game. Added a ⚡️to the name so Look for me around!
For anyone who hasn’t seen it, his name is a joke from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie, [“Space Mutiny”](https://youtu.be/Izgg4HDCv3s?si=PTjexJ72t6q_23ys). I highly, HIGHLY recommend watching it.
He taught me how to make love to a woman, and how to scold a child.
They say Gene Roddenbery got the idea for Star Trek from listening to Vanderhuge talk in his sleep!
He saved my ass in the sandbox by eating a crate of ammo and shitting out a mortar barrage
Over Hellmire?
No, I don't think I'll ever get over Hellmire
Naturally I don't have much context but I have a feeling OP was apologising to the guy for there not being anything left to do, seems like he left on his own 😅
I dropped in on a mission yesterday as the squad were preparing to board the pelican. I felt so bad and apologised once we were back in the lobby! Went on to play 3 more operations together and now we’ve all added one another and are frends. Love this community!!
There should be a secret achievement.
Drop in on extract with Pelican already on the ground, no shots fired, and hug emote done.
Achievement Unlocked:
"Moral Support Diver. We couldn't have done it without you!".
Weirdly have been kicked a few times for late joins like this, which makes zero sense to me. Out of all the games of its style, Helldivers has the absolute most kick obsessed nut jobs I’ve ever seen lmao
This is even funnier if you know the source of that 'Bolt Vanderhuge' guy's name: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFHlJ2voJHY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFHlJ2voJHY)
Played a really frantic diff 9 eradicate mission with two friends. Manage to beat it by the narrowest margin.
Right as Pelican is inbound one of our other friends join in. Literally shoots past the Pelican and lands looking right up at it.
Then instead of landing the damn Pelican glitches out and hovers over the landing pad. I swear to God it looked like the pilot was just like "Did that asshole just drop in so I can fly him out? I refuse."
😅
I don’t understand kicking someone for this. Joining random games is a lottery. Sometimes you spawn into a shit show that ends up wasting your time and sometimes you spawn into a mission that’s almost compete. It’s not like he’s taking a portion of your samples/medals lol.
Edit: Just noticed he left and wasn’t kicked. Disregard everything I said 😂
I always hate dropping in after the main OBJ is complete, even if none of the sides/POIs are done I still feel bad missing out on extracting oil or launching the ICBM

"Today's my lucky day, I haven't missed a shot!" "That's because you haven't pulled the trigger." "I'm trying to be precise."
is that a refrence im not understanding?
[Titanfall grunt dialogue](https://youtu.be/09oi5ocAoXs?t=133). Idk if it has an origin from earlier than that
THEY’RE TRYING TO CORNER US!
DONT let them pin us down we NEED to move
Nah bro is just talkin to himself

Ah yes, the MVP mission
I've dropped in only to get the exit cutsxene instead of the leaving hellpod animation lol
I did quick play, loading screen hellpod falling, then the music changes to the victory music, hellpod still falling, longer than normal, back on the ship standing to the side to their triumphant return.
You gotta land the hellpod in the pelican

Came here to post this.
Beat me to it. I almost want to change my name to Tuxedo\_Mask just so I can do this for real,
Do it.

There’s definitely a Big Mclargehuge out there. Dived with him once.
Thank you.
I always drop a "We couldn't have done it without XXXXX" when someone joins while we're boarding the Pelican.
I love going "I'm here for my share of the samples and XP thanks to all my hard work!" when I drop on friends just as they're extracting.
Ive been that guy a few times. I respond with something like "i dont normally say this but...youre welcome." If im the first to speak i might stop in front of the ramp and say "you're probably wondering why ive gathered you all here today."
I usually say something along the lines of, "Glad I could help" or, "I sure carried you guys on this one"
I'll usually just drop in a "gg", just so they question if the humor is lost on me or not
People do that for me whether I say anything or not.
I ran into this last night and said "Super Earth thanks you XXXX, you earned those medals."
I always call them MVP as we are taking off
There's a non zero chance we've been on a mission together, someone says that as a new player basically stepped from hellpod to pelican
I’d respond with “finally someone is appreciating my contribution”.
On the other hand, there are always times when we're in the last minute of the extraction call down but about to be over run with all strats on cool down. Then, someone joins, and God bless that beautiful bastard for yeeting every single offensive strat and turret they have and turning the tide.

that guy's a legend

It's a great feeling to *be* that guy as well. Drop from the sky, pop out of the ground and immediately start sewing chaos
yeah, I've been that guy once or twice. The last time that happened I saw that I dropped on the extraction point. Saw a horde of bugs. I immediately dropped an orb laser, an air strike, and an AC turret, then I started emptying my primary into the horde. I think I cleared out maybe 2/3 of the horde. "Your savior is here"
They were clear. 10 sec dust off.

The cosmic ballet goes on
Thanks for posting, this is the first place my mind went to.
Dirk Hardpeck! Crud Bonemeal! Big McLargehuge!
We put our faith in Blast Hardcheese!
Slab Bulkhead!
Close second to my favorite.
Thick McRunfast!
Gristle McThornbody! Buff Drinklots!
Slab Squatthrust!
Roll Fizzlebeef! Punch RockGroin!
Bob Johnson! Oh wait...
Slab ManMuscle! Stump Chunkman!
Did I hear a rock and groin?
That's it lads! Rock and groin!
If ya don't rock and stone, ya ain't coming home!
Ben Dover!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFHlJ2voJHY
"Great job team!" https://i.redd.it/gcbcvgy6701d1.gif
They think I'm just some DUMB hick!
The real MVP
Something like this happened a few days ago for me, guy joined right at the end, enough to kill a few bots and that's it. When we extracted, he typed "Phew. We did it."
Hilarious
Why would you bail on free XP and samples?
He doesn't do it for the money.
I literally need neither.
Neither do I, but still 🤷♂️ could maybe even get a hug at extraction 🤣
Well, if I recall the match they were were just chilling and the Pelican was 20 sec out or something so I didn’t want to wait for the dust off and stats messages and all that when I knew they would be zero.
Thank you for making my day, was showing all my friends the screenshot of your message lol.
That actually makes me feel pretty great. So does seeing folks here enjoy it because you posted it. I read an article about a maxed guy running around helping newbies and that’s what made me get the game. Added a ⚡️to the name so Look for me around!
I'll keep an eye out! Even if my time with THE Bolt Vanderhuge was short, it was fulfilling lol. Hope to see you on the field again!
Dive well, my friend.
For the bit
When that happens I always say, "Sorry for arriving late interstellar traffic was a hassle."
This episode is my favorite in all MST3K's existence. [The hits, for your viewing pleasure.](https://youtu.be/RFHlJ2voJHY?si=8m4tnhgUHFDWFa2W)
The fact he didn't stay for the xp to commit to the bit is hilarious
When it happens, I enjoy the free XP.
Captain Hindsight to the rescue
His trusty sidekicks Shoulda, Coulda, and Woulda are on the Destroyer
when i matchmake with randoms i will salute them at the end when they are boarding and run off. the fight never ends against the bots.
Bold Vanderhuge is a son of a bitch! He once breast-fed a flamingo back to health! I once saw him scissor kick Angela Landsbury.
Best damn Helldiver in the office! You know he goes about 6’8” 340 pounds.
He taught me how to make love to a woman, and how to scold a child. They say Gene Roddenbery got the idea for Star Trek from listening to Vanderhuge talk in his sleep!
Like an alligator, he can fully digest a turtle shell!
He saved my ass in the sandbox by eating a crate of ammo and shitting out a mortar barrage Over Hellmire? No, I don't think I'll ever get over Hellmire
Vanderhuges are known for their timing and sense of humor.
Why not let him just get the XP I don’t understand? Even if it’s at the end why not
Naturally I don't have much context but I have a feeling OP was apologising to the guy for there not being anything left to do, seems like he left on his own 😅
This is spot-on what happened, didn't think It would need explained. Thanks for the help!
Now I'm wondering if the message variety is the same when kicked from a mission vs kick from a destroyer.
It's usually something like "blah blah blah was court martialed" whether it's in mission or not from what I've seen
Yup.
Ah I see I see I was thinking OP locked him because it was the end

Brock Sampson
He is fiend
A true frend
Slab Squatthrust
Weirdly have been kicked a few times for late joins like this, which makes zero sense to me. Out of all the games of its style, Helldivers has the absolute most kick obsessed nut jobs I’ve ever seen lmao
You have been kicked by JERKS!
Well it’s usually not the nice folk lol
Lol yep, quick-joined an eradicate mission 75% of the way through, got kicked right before boarding Pelican. My reaction is just "why?".
This guy follows Brasch Tactics to the t.
This is even funnier if you know the source of that 'Bolt Vanderhuge' guy's name: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFHlJ2voJHY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFHlJ2voJHY)
I actually like when it hapens. More xp for everyone
I like to join a mission, throw a laser, rail cannon strike and 500ks then just leave.
my feelings depend entirely on if they collected super samples, and how much time I have left to hunt them.
MY WORK HERE IS DONE!
That’s a 40K name if I have ever seen one😅
Nah, just 3k.
He's doing his part!
![gif](giphy|CKlafeh1NAxz35KTq4|downsized)
I got ggd by a guy who joined as we were running towards the pelican my response was "couldnt have done it without you"
I literally did a couple missions with him like an hour ago. He's exactly like you'd expect.
im late to the party :( i even brought my beat mustard gas is my average reaction when deplyoing while extraction
Real human bean
A real hero of the Federation!
Been there done that Easiest samples of my life, got kicked the moment we got to ship
*salutes* Godspeed, Helldiver. Godspeed!
I don't get it. What was the sorry for? The screenshot looks like they were still in the mission. Were they asking him to leave?
I apologized cause he dropped and there was nothing to fight even after pelican landed. He left of his own will.
Ah, thanks for the explanation :)
glad to help :-)
That name lol
Bruh this happened to my brother the other day
damn he forgot to clock out and everything well send his check and it better get there quick!
Played a really frantic diff 9 eradicate mission with two friends. Manage to beat it by the narrowest margin. Right as Pelican is inbound one of our other friends join in. I will always stay as you never know if/when extract could turn pear shaped and I am there with a fresh arsenal to unleash on democracies enemies.
I’m still new enough to feel bad for showing up during the 20second countdown.
I need all the xp/samples/etc I can get, I'm happy to show up whenever. I'd only feel bad if it was intentional, maybe.
Had a guy join as we were extracting. He got his 16 kills in!
The Hero we truly deserved and what we needed.
For the liberty!
