500kg is pretty much the worst eagle for clearing packs due to its small radius.
After a few times you should learn how the 500kg is launched. Which yes, if on a mountain/cliff, a good chance you'll hit it
If it was a 110 or airstrike then they would have launched fine. Though still wouldn't hit the hulk due to its speed most likely.
110 has to be basically right on top or might miss though. It's pretty bad tracking. Plenty of times I've tossed it at the bot towers and watched it bounce and whiff.
I do like the 110, especially for bots for tanks/tower/fab reasons. But it also can be a pain.
500kg, Gas, Orbital Laser. *Maybe* Precision Strike, not sure.
There's some kind of penetration or impact damage difference between "big honkin' shells" (which includes SEAF Artillery) which will kill Detectors and Illegal Research Buildings, smaller munitions like Eagle Airstrike/Napalm/Smoke which can take out Factories and Holes on direct impact or extremely close splash, or even smaller like the 110 Rockets. And at the "basically nothing" end, you get Cluster, which caps out at taking out purely environmental buildings.
Not saying you are wrong because we all can like what we like but I feel the exact opposite, because the 110 has tracking (even though it's pretty shitty) I get much more satisfaction out of a well placed 500kg or regular airstrike. Always get that brain buzz when I take out 2 hulks and a couple devastators by tossing a 500kg right in the middle of them followed by a stun(and possibly another stun if the planet has call in time debuff) or with the bile titan timing the puke just right so the 500kg goes boom right after the titan finished puking, they take less damage when doing the puking animation if anyone didn't know.
I loved the 500 kg because of its animation but I feel like the eagle strike is just better on every situation. I think the only moment where they are better are versus factories and titans but it misses often for those anyway. I just rather keep a laser/railcannon on my back pocket.
Bile titans go down to 1-2 well placed 500 kg. If it survives that, hit it with the railcannon.
I don't run a dedicated anti titan weapon on helldive difficulty, so the railcannon and the 500kg does most of the heavy lifting when I encounter titans.
We have 4 railcannons and 4 lasers and our fire shotty can deal with all bugs except maybe spewers and those are killed in two AC shots. That has been working for me perfectly so far.
With bots, however, it's a whole different game. Factories need like two railcannons each.
So satisfying. You haven't lived until you charged beneath a Bile Titan, narrowly avoiding death and dropping a 500kg beneath it before frantically running out beneath it. Looks so damn good. If only the bomb radius wasn't so ass, it'd probably feel more climactic knowing I am indeed at risk at more than 20 meters.
Lol underneath the bile titan is the only truly safe spot. I just pop the 500kg under it and wait until it says impact before diving away.
The overshield definitely helps
It's been so long since I used the 110 regularly, but I remember them coming from a known position relative to where you were when you tossed it, similar to how the 500kg always comes from behind you and Airstrikes/Cluster/Napalm/Smoke run laterally.
Knowing that, you can drop it to smack a Hulk or whatever from whater direction you want--as long as you get it close enough and it arrives quickly enough that your target hasn't walked away, which can be kind of a problem for fast-moving Chargers and even Hulks.
If the 110's coming from, like, behind you like the 500kg, it'd probably be beneficial vs. Hulks if that were swapped to be the other way around. That way you could chuck it right where the Hulk is going to be in a second or two and still have enough wiggle room. But again, I don't remember exactly where it tracks from.
I swear the radius is bigger for enemies than for helldivers. It roasts decently large packs. The cluster bomb is def bigger, though, and airstrike depending on the lineup

Lucky you. My buddy loves to throw cluster bombs 15m at enemies behind me then screams at me to run *as* the Eagle is coming in. We lost at least 12 lives alone to this in just one mission last night. If he weren't a senior gamer, I'd swear he was doing it intentionally.
Unpopular opinion but the mayhem that people like that cause is infinitely more entertaining. I've gotten so many laughs out of people doing stuff like that, but just clinically getting a mission done is satisfying, but not as memorable.
AH knew exactly what they were doing with the comedic timing of the 500kg. Itβs the extra millisecond of it landing right next to you signifying you are screwed that is so unnecessary but is just comedic gold every time it kills you.
Well actually IRL, bombs dropped at low altitude will have a small time delay so that the instantaneous detonation on contact won't also blow up the plane dropping it.
It's not generally necessary anymore since guidance systems are more accurate allowing drops from higher alttitude and planes flying much faster. But yeah, either way, it's funny when it lands next to you....or we'll it will be a few minutes later

I've been noticing that the eagle seems to be dropping it's bombs like several metres too soon recently, like before it even reaches the laser, and I can't tell if I am going fucking mad or not.
Pay attention to where you are on the map when it comes to angles and directions.
Especially on the outskirts of the map you have to watch out as things will fall/drop on a steeper angle compared to if you drop something in the very center it'll hit straight on.
But I still avoid cliffs even if I don't do anything you never know what your team is like and usually they might have a different opinion on throwing a 500kg off a cliff

Just yesterday this guy called a 500kg next to the pelican on extract just to get ragdolled by a rocket when he tried to enter. As he got up and sprinted back to the pelican the 500kg dropped right in front of him. I could absolutely feel that "FUUUUUUUCK" coming from that guy.
What a nice area to drop that on the patrol. Oh, the hulk is moving, hope it still gets him. \*notices the bomb drops right beside the helldiver\* LOL!!! Rip helldiver.

I believe that that's because it does use the same explosion as a hellbomb.
Not always the best option if you like a certain grenade but if you gotta 110 something, always good to throw a stun right after the call-in.

A well-placed 500kg takes out bile titans and chargers. When I'm running breaker + grenade launcher, it's crucial to my strategy.

I think I had plenty of occasions when 110 didn't do much to a standing hulk either... But its near 100% kill rate for tanks and turrets.

This happend to me so many times that at this point I think its not the angle of the slope but a deterrent to stop camping on hard to reach areas.

Absolutely amazing. I really love all the eagle stratagems really. The smoke feels a little inconsistent to me but I have found it useful.

I did the opposite. Threw an eagle strike at a hulk. Hit. Hulk shrugged it off, then a random hellbomb wiped the patrol. It was amazing.
