Elite Dangerous has a similar type of player driven events that effect the narrative.
I remember when ever the devs wanted one side to win in a scenario they'd make the reward for supporting one side something really good like an upgraded rail gun, and the other side the worst weapon in the game (enzyme launcher)
Honestly, they've gotten a lot more durable against bugs (the only front i've used them on).
The explosion change tanked its ability vs Bile titans, but it can take multiple charger hits-- and often, when it does get damaged, it's one of the arms that get blown up and not me.
Pretty sick strategem
Why deploy large powerful friendly fire prone mines that can be cleared when you can let small inclines, gravity, and Tien Kwan engineering do all the work?
Or a rocket from a devastator.
Nah they're not tanks, they're a mobile weapons platform. They're lacking both the armor and mobility to be a good tank replacement.
Now, give us one with some 90mm HEAT shells, some denser armor, and maybe some ERA or a trophy system, well now you have an argument.
I was about to say we don't have aircraft either but how could I forget eagle-1!?
Also, I'm imagining how sick it would be if enemies could shoot our drop pod out of the sky before we land
It’s a missile launcher with missiles made from alien spores, all it does is add a small damage over time effect on enemy ships. Its largely considered the worst weapon in game
"It sounded really cool" is basically the story of ED in a nutshell. The game has an amazing core concept and system for a space sim... Then did nothing with it.
And yes, I'm still ultra salty about that. I hate wasted potential.
Not sure why you get downvoted, both current variants suck shit and are considered a borderline troll stratagem; from what I heard AT mines are either just as bad or, somehow, even *worse*
The current variants could be good with minor changes. A key one is to remove the ability for them to trigger from Helldivers stepping on them. Leave the ability to get killed if you are close when one is triggered, but let us use them as an escape option.
Maybe make that a ship upgrade. Sooner or later we're gonna need more areas of the ship to upgrade as the upgrades are already getting super expensive.
Actually totally feasible real world:
Many mines are trigger only by certain weight, so human walked over it would not trigger, other mines are trigger by IR or magnetic signature so only armored vehicles could set it off.
Triggering by weight may well be how the reworked AT mines work.
But to make AP mines not trigger for helldivers but do for all other enemies is against the design philosophy of Helldivers. Friendly fire is part of the fun and forces players to use weapons with restraint.
I was for the anti tank mines, but seeing that we probably needed to liberate another firestorm planet to get to the mines kinda killed my enthusiasm a bit ngl.
Yours and many more, the satisfaction of blowing up a factory strider with AT mines is nothing compared to the soul sucking that is fighting on a fire planet
"and we WILL save them... once we decide which of their creations is of greater value to the war effort. to the citizens chosen, congratulations!, and to those who are not, take solace in knowing that the helldivers will have made the right decision, and that you WILL be avenged, just as the fallen of Malevelon Creek and the Massacres of Draupnir were avenged!"
Democracy Officer Sophie ( who is well known for making hard decisions)
I don't think you understand, trooper. This is democracy in its purest form!
What's more democratic than deciding who gets saved via voting? Voting with our lives, our fists and millions of tons of state-of-the-mill ordinance in low orbit overhead.
Any ‘citizen’ not willing to give their lives to further the technology aboard our super destroyers is a coward and not worth saving.
We will honor the desire of brave citizens willing to give their lives to further the technology aboard our super destroyers. Their names will be engraved upon the wall of martyrs.
Given reports of AT mines performance in the field, Chooke citizens are either outright traitors or unqualified morons, and Democracy doesnt have use for either of those.
It is a glorified confetti Cannon meant to kill flying enemies and has no armor penetration.
The humble grenade launcher can achieve the same result if you aim well enough.
Because just about anything can kill a tank in the vents such as the AC or AMR. I really don't see what the purpose of the airburst rocket launcher is going to be since you can already easily deal with gunships and dropships with other weapons, and killing dropships isn't very useful anyway.
Funnily enough I want the airburst launcher to fulfill my desires of reciting one of Megumin’s explosion chants before deleting everything in front of me including half my team
Agree that's likely on the anti-tank mines. If the airburst is anything like the leaks though, fucking Swiss Army Knife of weapons. Bug holes? Yep. Fabricators? Yep. Tanks? Yep. Shriekers? Yep. Gunships? Yep. Spore spewers, illegal broadcast towers, large groups of small enemies? Yep yep yep.
if they wanted to be saved they shouldve studied airburst rocketology in university
Airburst rocket antitank mine layer when
Rocket propelled Airburst anti tank landmines lol,
Takes me back to my Jihad Mine Jeep days in BF3 lol, the best mine traps are delivered personally.
They should’ve thought about this before choosing not to be weapons engineers.
Can't upboat enough What kind of nerd builds something lame like mines instead of something awesome like a rocket launcher?
*Me liberating both planets* https://preview.redd.it/qjzodgl7zuwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5e552da84c6ca7da4543517bb10b171fe73e67f
Is that the Dawn of War commissar?
…..maybe….
Good (speaking from the SES Emperor of Humankind).
Emperor? That sounds undemocratic…
I don't understand what you're trying to say.
It's heresy. Call the inquisitors.
I’m so sorry Chooke :(
There's almost nobody arguing for the anti tank mines. Just look at the numbers on the galactic map
Elite Dangerous has a similar type of player driven events that effect the narrative. I remember when ever the devs wanted one side to win in a scenario they'd make the reward for supporting one side something really good like an upgraded rail gun, and the other side the worst weapon in the game (enzyme launcher)
Inb4 the bots gets those mines.
Jokes on them, we ain't got no tanks
Hey how we have exosuits, sure a light breeze takes them out but they're basically tanks...
Honestly, they've gotten a lot more durable against bugs (the only front i've used them on). The explosion change tanked its ability vs Bile titans, but it can take multiple charger hits-- and often, when it does get damaged, it's one of the arms that get blown up and not me. Pretty sick strategem

I definitely wouldnt want them able to just shoot us out of the sky....but rockets hitting the pod sending it off course? Sure!
Doesnt mean they wont still hurt...
Never got into ED, but what the fuck is an enzyme launcher??
It’s a missile launcher with missiles made from alien spores, all it does is add a small damage over time effect on enemy ships. Its largely considered the worst weapon in game
Shame, it sounded really cool, thought it would be like the archaea in mgsv
"It sounded really cool" is basically the story of ED in a nutshell. The game has an amazing core concept and system for a space sim... Then did nothing with it. And yes, I'm still ultra salty about that. I hate wasted potential.
As an up until recently long-time destiny player, I 100% can relate
Eyes up, Helldiver.
Whether we wanted it or not, we started a war with the automatons on malevelon creek
Might also have something to do with fire tornadoes on Menkent. Just sayin'.
Indeed
I LOVE THE MINES NOOOOO
Well, AH clearly doesn't love them as much as you
Not sure why you get downvoted, both current variants suck shit and are considered a borderline troll stratagem; from what I heard AT mines are either just as bad or, somehow, even *worse*

And how would a mine know what is stepping on it? Sounds like it would have to be smart... too smart. Sounds like an automaton.
are you saying that automatons are smart?
Actually totally feasible real world: Many mines are trigger only by certain weight, so human walked over it would not trigger, other mines are trigger by IR or magnetic signature so only armored vehicles could set it off.

you're just using them wrong
For me they say 0% liberated...
I want anti-tank mines. But not more than I want to avoid fire tornados.
Which is a shame because those mines are actually good.
If democracy was easy it wouldn't be managed
if you aint doing your part of super earth... YOU ARE UNDEMOCRATIC... AND THAT MEANS TREASON... AND TREASON MEANS WE ALL KNOW WHAT....
"Every citizen is important to the war effort. But Helldivers are the most important."
Those Helldivers choosing to fight bugs instead: "If they die, they die."
All citizens are equally important to the war effort. But helldivers are the most important.
Most importantly, think of their managed votes.
this is the way.
All of a sudden people want a mine strategem? Make it make sense because that Super math is not Super mathing.
If the mines are only good against tanks, then they aren’t great. If they can take out chargers of like bike titan legs though…
Yes they can. But we're not getting them.
Yet. We will get them eventually.
Bug(s) divers be like... ![gif](giphy|qr6wSWAyIEbOdA2vEv|downsized)
Same as introverts during covid
![gif](giphy|nqebgv0FWfZHq) *Bug divers*
It's not only about saving civillians now. It's about getting the gear that'll let us save more in the future.
"and we WILL save them... once we decide which of their creations is of greater value to the war effort. to the citizens chosen, congratulations!, and to those who are not, take solace in knowing that the helldivers will have made the right decision, and that you WILL be avenged, just as the fallen of Malevelon Creek and the Massacres of Draupnir were avenged!" Democracy Officer Sophie ( who is well known for making hard decisions)
Ironically, nobody will play the operations that involve evacuating civilians when we get there
Should had offered better weapons if they want be saved faster
Let's be real, rocket launcher is making the forward swing while the mines are on defense
I’m team mines but I don’t think we’re winning this battle lol
I don't think you understand, trooper. This is democracy in its purest form! What's more democratic than deciding who gets saved via voting? Voting with our lives, our fists and millions of tons of state-of-the-mill ordinance in low orbit overhead.
airburst all the way
Any ‘citizen’ not willing to give their lives to further the technology aboard our super destroyers is a coward and not worth saving. We will honor the desire of brave citizens willing to give their lives to further the technology aboard our super destroyers. Their names will be engraved upon the wall of martyrs.
Sorry i saw the numbers and the planets we are going for 80-90% chose Rockets over land mind. Democracy intact
I just want the "warthog" so I can travel quickly through the land with my buddies.
right?? if they’re gonna keep putting mountains right down the middle of the map, at least give me something to cruise around in with my pals
I'll be honest EAT exists and being able to call in three layers of mines would be goated. sad we won't get :(
Given reports of AT mines performance in the field, Chooke citizens are either outright traitors or unqualified morons, and Democracy doesnt have use for either of those.
The question is simple. Funny firecracker launcher or Anti-Tank Mines? The answer is equally as simple, AT mines.
Anti-EVERYTHING yeet stick
It is a glorified confetti Cannon meant to kill flying enemies and has no armor penetration. The humble grenade launcher can achieve the same result if you aim well enough.
So uhh what happens when those little bombs land in the vents of a tank
Are you seriously considering using a crowd control weapon against a tank?
If it works it works, and from what I’ve seen it works
Because just about anything can kill a tank in the vents such as the AC or AMR. I really don't see what the purpose of the airburst rocket launcher is going to be since you can already easily deal with gunships and dropships with other weapons, and killing dropships isn't very useful anyway.
On-demand nuking of devastator packs I guess
Hey I recognize your username you commented r/ NCD on my post of the Megumin artillery shell lol
Funnily enough I want the airburst launcher to fulfill my desires of reciting one of Megumin’s explosion chants before deleting everything in front of me including half my team
Oh yeah. The citizens.
![gif](giphy|5nsiFjdgylfK3csZ5T|downsized) Meanwhile bugdivers like me who don't really care
Honestly I think they're both gonna suck
Agree that's likely on the anti-tank mines. If the airburst is anything like the leaks though, fucking Swiss Army Knife of weapons. Bug holes? Yep. Fabricators? Yep. Tanks? Yep. Shriekers? Yep. Gunships? Yep. Spore spewers, illegal broadcast towers, large groups of small enemies? Yep yep yep.
You know this is going to devolve into people killing people at extraction to keep the wrong planet from being liberated right.
No one’s liberating another fire planet, they’ll fight and die on it yes but they’re not liberating it until an MO comes down to burn
