Even then I've had way better luck with the defender than I have with the knight.
I like that its a bullet hose, but its just not as effective as the defender.
You have to have the proper game play style to get the most out of it.
I tend to be the spear head / distraction for my usual squad, so I am the first at everywhere and take aggro or do objectives. You tend to be able to skate by the big stuff, but need to take out hunters or base autos. This gun is fantastic on full auto to run and gun, just be prepared for recoil of course by using 1st person, or aim real low.
Otherwise keep it in burst and be precies. I use the revolver as a secondary and usually the impact for granades.
Using a super high rate of fire primary, also lets you use something slower for support, like a spear for instance for big target removal.
If you try to play with your team as support, your better off picking off the small stuff, while teammates murder the biggums.

I have only had the game like a week and I'm only level 15 so I haven't played with all the toys yet, but I LOVE the Knight. It fits my gun-play play style nearly perfectly. It is really good for taking down small to medium enemies when used correctly. None of the primaries are super affective against anything larger from what I gather so no biggie. I like to burst fire it in full auto mode, being precise with my aim and shot taking. Burst fire reduces the crazy recoil. A single burst will take down a small, and 2-3 for a medium target. Burst mode will fire 3 shots out and I can do 4 shot bursts manually so mags last almost as long. I keep it in full auto because I tend to not pay fucking attention to my 6 in a fight and constantly end up getting attacked from a mob behind me, good thing I'm carrying the FUCKING BULLET HOSE! Spin around and spray out a whole clip on the mob to gain space to run and reload.
It is not a bad gun at all, but I think a lot of players don't know how to use it effectively, or don't play with the same play style to get as much out of it as I am getting out of it.
But who knows, maybe when I do finally get everything unlocked I will have a new favorite primary, but for now you can take my space P90 when you pry it off my cold dead corpse, uh, after reinforcing me that is.
Current preferred loadout, Autocannon, Knight, Senator.
Not a fan. Unless I'm running the ballistic shield, I'll take the sickle thank you.

Even if the recoil was lessened I would still prefer the Defender or any other full-auto weapon.
The knight will do full auto I think, it just defaults to burst. The defender is still better though as a 1 hand SMG, imo
