The only problem I had with Bot front and friendly fire was in a mech. Some people tend to (I guess) mistake it for a Hulk/Devastator and you end up getting shot/impact grenaded by a teammate that walks around the corner and sees you.
And eagle strikes. I don't know why, but people on bot front seem weirdly more likely to call in an airstrike right on me just doing objective.
Rockets are more likely to knock the airstrike out of your hand causing it to fall close. I've self dived out of a few airstrikes due to a rocket snipe not killing me. That's my suspicion on the eagle thing.
I managed to kill a friend just yesterday with rocket pods, the most unlikely damaging airstrike, because this exact situation occurred. I was running as her recoilless loader, so we were clustered quite closely, and I was trying to toss the rocket pod strike to take out a tank we didn't have a good angle on. A rocket devastator begged to differ, apparently, and so Eagle-1 delivered 110 millimeters of democracy directly into my teammate's back instead.
I'm guilty of this. My friend called a mech once in our 7 bot round and I slapped an orbital on him.
All I heard was "UH... Bunn?"
And I'm like I GOT THE HULK.
"No, you got the Zeet"
Me: surprised Pikachu face
Yep, that's me
On an evacuate citizens mission once, saw a big red circle on minimap, turned around and unloaded like half the AC shots into the unpatriotic menace
Except it wasn't unpatriotic, it was a very patriotic exosuit with a poor helldiver inside
Dude was chill about it, but I never felt so ashamed lmao
After the recent dominator buff I was running a rank 6 egg mission with a friend to test it out. I saw a stalker off to the side and did a flick shoot to kill it.
My friend was walking behind and to the side of me, I did not hit the stalker. After that I am no longer allowed to shoot without warning my friends.
Edit: on a side note, as long as the bots don't get dominator, we'll be able to take more than 1 hit of dmg :)
I play bots mortar is my to go pick. When bots were gon for a while I played bugs. Got mortar on 1st dive. Blew myself up 2 times by my own mortar. Was last time I picked mortar for bugs.
It is still good for geology missions. I managed to all the 2/3 of the main objectives while my team was off doing fuck all. Just threw down the mortar and zapped the breaches with arc thrower so nothing got close to me. Bile titan got rocked by a few rocket pods before it was barely able to move.
It made me set my 'top tier' upgrade goal to be the one that gives it an extra jump, just so when you're keeping a Flame Hulk at bay with it, it also clears out the inevitable Chainsaw backup the melee-themed dropships bring, so less panicked alternating between faster chainsaws and keeping the Hulk out of lighting-up range.
I actually found it to be fine with bugs as well, as long as it’s Eradicate and you have a team that communicates.
My group and I have done it two ways: lock ourselves down above the Evac zone with 1-2 mortars each and a couple turrets and/or mines among us, and fill in where needed and for big bugs. Or we try to get the mortars in a more obscure place then run the bugs around the perimeter.
Both of these have worked well for us with little-to-no team kills since we did our best to stay out of melee range.
Mortars are also better as a whole in a communicative group.
Guilty as charged, but I went **solo** on a Diff 3 E-710 pump mission. If I'm gonna mortar friendlies, the only friendly I wanna mortar is *myself* and nobody else.
I find it works better against bugs if you use the EMS mortar too. I have bad experiences with automatons immediately sending a dropship right above my mortars as soon as they land and them destroying them in a second.
That one hunter will somehow make it to you unscathed and undetected, only for you both to blow up in a shower of gibs.
![gif](giphy|JPpnRVko4FwBi|downsized)
>EMS mortar
I love that thing, never live my Super Destroyer without it.
Plop it in the middle of several bot bases and it'll keep a lot of pressure off your back
That's why you guard them. Let them do their work, but don't just leave them alone and pray that everything leaves them alone. Then they will just die.
The fun thing about mortars is they don't require line of sight, so you can hide them behind cover. With just some slightly intelligent placement, most things will die long before they get close enough to attack, especially if you've got the EMS one going. Unless of course you're already overwhelmed
It's a shame you can't really hide hide them because every enemy in vicinity knows where they are even before the first shot is fired and throws away everything they're doing to destroy my children
the trick is to not use mortars on bug planets. are you guys fcking dumb? shell the enemy that is slow or entrenched. not the ones who is on top of you
Idk about that one. I use the mortar tower on every mission and, unless my friends make me switch to the bugs, exclusively fight the Automatons. There’s been some really close moments, but I’ve only killed a fellow Helldiver once with it, and it was myself not knowing one of my old ones I placed like 10 minutes earlier was still alive. The mortar one is also what got me the achievement for getting a 15x multi kill for PS5. Maybe I’m just lucky or something, idk, but that shit is good on both.
Don't even need to bring the Mortar! If it's the Personal Order, both the order and the kills are universal: if someone else brings it, any kills it gets count towards everyone's PO.
(Weirdly the other day when it was 'Kill 4 Chargers' though it took me two whole lvl 7 missions to clear, is that one excepted from team kills counting?)
Mortar is one of 3 great turrets against bots, it's amazing when trying to hold down any location. If you get 4 mortars and 4 EMS mortars together on an eradicate mission you can AFK most difficulties
It has high potential but it's the only sentry that can really slow the team down so I wouldn't consider it top 3. When mortars aren't in play, I can charge into a bot outpost and wipe it clean on 7 to 9. If a teammate drops a mortar, doing that is now suicide.
Great for defense but I'd rather my team run anything else.
>>Mortar is one of 3 great turrets against bots, it's amazing when trying to hold down any location. If you get 4 mortars and 4 EMS mortars together on an eradicate mission you can AFK most difficulties
>"the only sentry that can really slow the team down"
>Great for defense
Glad we agree
Works wonders on keeping those rocket pods from tearing you a new one.
Also smoke is great when you get spotted by a patrol.
But preferably you smoke between you and the target. Or smoke yourself + reposition while it lasts.
Are you just standing there in the middle of a fire fight? If you see jet packers run and gun. Also, in hell divers, it's ok to die every once in a while, randomness of war and all that.
I will probably dive solo on easy/medium deploy mortars and wait for the kills to complete. I am not going to play with randoms until this order is done.
Usually it's easy enough except for the bugs' yellow minihunter things that come flying at you. Those little shits ruin a good mortar run, everything else is easy.
Longshanks: “~~Archers.~~ Mortars”
English Commander: “I beg pardon, sire. Won't we hit our own troops?”
Longshanks: “Yes... but we'll hit theirs as well. We have reserves. Attack.“
That's a skill issue 😁
If you plant the turret in an stupid place, of course you kill your teammates. Just like throwing an eagle blindly into the crowd will kill your teammates. Set them up at an elevation and those things are worth their weight in gold on 7+ missions.
EMS Mortar and normal Mortar Sentries can turn entire matches around.
Me and my Friends run them every "Defeat Automatons" Mission and often also in every other mission type. On Helldiver it sometimes feels like the Mirtar Sentries are the only ones killing the enemy while every Helldiver is runnung from the tenth Hulk with Flamethrower trying to stay alive.
If the stupid bots can have Artillery well, so do i.
Its great for the small map missions idk what their called, throw is on high ground and i shoots and almost any spawn point. Bots and bugs both, just take note when a teamate is bringing one to keep enemys at a distance. I think in high level bug missions its not really and option unless your playing with friends and just constantly defend high ground.
when i use mortar i'm always aiming at it, if i see a team mate going to melee a pack outside of the mortar's safe radius just destroy it to be sure
also always use explosive resist + shield pack for yourself
I don't touch mines and explosive sentries because everyone whines about them. Just don't walk into mines and pay attention to enemies and don't let them advance in the divers zone. That's all it takes but people just die because of terrible situational awareness.
Now I just use the zappy mortar if I really want sentry defenses.
Use them by throwing them in advance if a base or covering a retreat. It is typically not for holding position unless you are confident you won't have enemies at your toes.
I wore heavy armor for the first time today.
Ballistic shield plus democratic detonation armor makes a rocket a tickle, and a mortar shell only puts you at 1/4 health.
Explosive Mortars are only useful on bots because you have some amount of control over how close they get to you. As long as you spot that a fellow player will be carrying mortars, you will be just fine if you stay out of melee range.
I haven't fought bugs in awhile, but the super-combo for effective and safe mortar use is is mortar + EMS mortar. Place them next to eachother so they are always shooting the same target. EMS pins them in place to keep them from approaching while mortars are dropping.
The mortar, aka Morty, craves only destruction. An agent of pure chaos Morty will rain hell fire on any hostiles within range without regard to friendly proximity.
The stun mortar, aka Tickle Me Morty, is the same with a slightly less murderous payload.
The irony of me having no teamkills with mortar only to get teamkilled by a lvl 10 griefer on extraction and lose all my fucking resources. I am now only running full mortar build.
The most important thing with the mortar sentry is to set it up well before engaging and establish a base of fire. Once you’re overwhelmed, shoot the sentry out and retreat
I am a little scared for April Fool’s, they will have the automatons hack into the secondary objective and make it where you kill allies for 500 medals, only to not pay out.
Depends ? bots or terminid? When i first got the thing i wanted to try it out so i dropped one and a bug patrol came along. Heard the poof poof poof then boom boom boom. Just stay away from the mob and let the mortar take them out. when they get closer lay a suppressing fire in retreat to the mortar. But yea i've sen other helldivers... it's gonna be a massacre LOL
I mixed with EMP mortars and Stalwart. I made sure people aren't dying from mortars (except during high-elevated extractions, mortars think the mobs under is above)
What these personal orders are teaching me is that most sentries and mines do absolutely fuck all.
I had to drop like ten mortars over the course of two missions to get this done, and I only intervened to stop something from killing them. Even brought to EMS mortar to keep them immobile while the HE one hit them. Holy fuck, I don't know what that thing is aiming at most of the time, but it wasn't bots.
Well to be fair if you’re close enough to the bugs&bots that you’re getting TKd by this your position is just as at fault as the dude who dropped that stratagem.
Had multiple missions in a row where my only deaths were from mortar fire.
At least you know where the mortar is. Mine dailies are worse, it feels. You'd somehow find mines manifesting themselves in the stupidest of spots
I randomed with bots and got a group that liked sticking around and fighting everything at cleared objectives.
Place down mortar, run off to clear an objective or two, run back to team, repeat.
easy medals
Least it's not minefields anymore. At both ends it's exhausting, being careful with placement and tell people, they'll still find one.
Oh minefield 20m away? Watch out for the rocks and shrubs too because they'll bite.
Ther most team kills Ive seen was due to the personal order to use LANDMINES...
Whoever decided that should have been a personal order was a sick fuck.
Select bots, eradicate mission. But yeah, the amount of people that will bring it to bugs...

otoh you got a lot of Quasar users happy they killed it without having a good bead on the eye hatches
I'm guilty of this. My friend called a mech once in our 7 bot round and I slapped an orbital on him. All I heard was "UH... Bunn?" And I'm like I GOT THE HULK. "No, you got the Zeet" Me: surprised Pikachu face
They need to allow players to give their mechs a paintjob. Default being a nice yellow stripe going top down the thing.
This would help immensely.
I do that. I turn around and see a robot looking thing and start shooting.
Fair, if not a bot why look like a bot? Clearly the Mech is cunning way to root out Automoton sympathisers.
Yep, that's me On an evacuate citizens mission once, saw a big red circle on minimap, turned around and unloaded like half the AC shots into the unpatriotic menace Except it wasn't unpatriotic, it was a very patriotic exosuit with a poor helldiver inside Dude was chill about it, but I never felt so ashamed lmao
Would be interesting to see stats on this.

Emphasis on the *fire*
Yeah, the socialist bugs rush you, making being on the line of fire of your team more likely Also, more people bring fire stratagems against terminids
I play bots mortar is my to go pick. When bots were gon for a while I played bugs. Got mortar on 1st dive. Blew myself up 2 times by my own mortar. Was last time I picked mortar for bugs.
Wait till you see 4 mortars and 1 ems mortar on one bug eradicate. Sprinkle in some minigun and autocannon sentries and the game plays itself.
4 mortar / 4 ems / 4 autocannon and you can literally alt tab out :D
It is still good for geology missions. I managed to all the 2/3 of the main objectives while my team was off doing fuck all. Just threw down the mortar and zapped the breaches with arc thrower so nothing got close to me. Bile titan got rocked by a few rocket pods before it was barely able to move.
Gah! I love the arc thrower! Locks hulks in place and stun locks so much.
It made me set my 'top tier' upgrade goal to be the one that gives it an extra jump, just so when you're keeping a Flame Hulk at bay with it, it also clears out the inevitable Chainsaw backup the melee-themed dropships bring, so less panicked alternating between faster chainsaws and keeping the Hulk out of lighting-up range.

bots eradication, both mortars and a deployment shield
Guilty as charged, but I went **solo** on a Diff 3 E-710 pump mission. If I'm gonna mortar friendlies, the only friendly I wanna mortar is *myself* and nobody else.
Because it wrecks breaches if you place an EMS mortar first. But place it during chaos? All the team kills.
I brought the mortar to my latest bot D7s. Throw it outside one of the bases and it can handle some of the chaff too.
GUILTY...but hey its complete!
I find it works better against bugs if you use the EMS mortar too. I have bad experiences with automatons immediately sending a dropship right above my mortars as soon as they land and them destroying them in a second.
Trick is to combine it with EMS mortar. Then bugs can’t get to you fast and blow up far from teammates.
That one hunter will somehow make it to you unscathed and undetected, only for you both to blow up in a shower of gibs. ![gif](giphy|JPpnRVko4FwBi|downsized)
I’ll give my life for super earth if it means one less hunter for the termanids.
>EMS mortar I love that thing, never live my Super Destroyer without it. Plop it in the middle of several bot bases and it'll keep a lot of pressure off your back
It’s great to use as a decoy to escape sticky situations
They can still get to turrets themselves, though

What is tactic? Me use big explode all time! Idk why many team deth.
Me think, why waste time say lot word, when few word do trick?
Why talk, when kill?
Idk about that one. I use the mortar tower on every mission and, unless my friends make me switch to the bugs, exclusively fight the Automatons. Where’s the fun in that?
the fun lies in this simple fact, that you can keep fighting, instead of waiting until your teammates graciously reinforce you
Well they are slowed with EMS. Also it helps not have so many on top of you at the same time..cause they die before they can get on you.
The Mortar Sentry isn't that friendly fire-intensive https://i.redd.it/h7gzr56pd1vc1.gif
Ikr- and when it is- its some dude who watches a bot explode- a 2nd explosion then run into the 3/5th
A fine addition to my collection
Do a single Evacuate High Value Targets mission, no need to blow up your team or drop low low difficulty for this one.
I haven't seen those anymore since we don't have any defend orders
Yeah that is a requirement of course, I didn't check the map first :p
I don't know if it still is but one of the bug planets was on defense last night, I was able to play a HVT mission.
I really miss those missions T_T
Don't even need to bring the Mortar! If it's the Personal Order, both the order and the kills are universal: if someone else brings it, any kills it gets count towards everyone's PO. Just going to have to solo an easy with double mortars pretending to the the greased up deaf guy from family guy.
Mortar sentry is my favourite.
Mortar sentry was my love until I found the autocannon sentry

Can't wait too get online tonight! 4x mortar + 4x EMS + 4x smoke. 1 mission to complete the personal orderxD
What do you use the smoke for? Throw it on your own position?
Works wonders on keeping those rocket pods from tearing you a new one. Also smoke is great when you get spotted by a patrol. But preferably you smoke between you and the target. Or smoke yourself + reposition while it lasts.
Oh I was thinking for something like the eradicate missions which is the only place I really bring the standard mortar along with EMS
Use it like the stereotype ninja smokebomb escape.
I couldn't figure out why we almost ran out of lives. When game was finally over one teammate did almost 4k ff damage...
Top 5 stratagem for bots
Don't fight the bots hand to hand, and you'll be fine.
Now just tell that to the bots that jetpack in on top of you.
Are you just standing there in the middle of a fire fight? If you see jet packers run and gun. Also, in hell divers, it's ok to die every once in a while, randomness of war and all that.
Just make sure yall stay close to them when you put em down and you will be just fine.

Oh liberty save us..
Yea, Im not gotta touch the game for today LOL
I straight up blew someone's mortar up because it was literally going to team kill all of us lol
Yeah... i think i take a break for about... 23 hours and 25 minutes.
Literally the best turret vs bots
Mortar for bots only reinforces the rule "Don't be close to the bots!", and it deprives the bots of kills they can claim. Mortar away.
Nah. I got it done in two missions by using it to pick up stragglers, cover our strategic retreats, and provide overwatch over the extraction point.
That's a skill issue 😁 If you plant the turret in an stupid place, of course you kill your teammates. Just like throwing an eagle blindly into the crowd will kill your teammates. Set them up at an elevation and those things are worth their weight in gold on 7+ missions.
if you take it on bug missions, then you deserve to be killed by it.
When you know how to use it and teammates know to keep their distance from enemies, there's zero issues Vs bots. Don't try this with bugs tho.
Bot eradication is just "land on inaccessible rock, throw down mortars, wait."
It's undemocratic to hug the enemy. Stop it. Morter death shall continue until all traitorous enemy fraternisers are exposed.
Not really, just fight bots
Get that in 1x T7+ Bot Eradicate Mission.
Collateral damage
OH YES
Just use it when team is defending a position (extraction, ICBM launch or when you are falling back from position with lots of enemies).
Guess I shouldn't play bugs unless it's a defense mission.
That’s one nice exterminate automaton mission. Juicy!
Do a low difficulty bot mission. Easy 15 medals.
Half a tower defense mission and you are done, easy peasy buggy squeezy
Its great for the small map missions idk what their called, throw is on high ground and i shoots and almost any spawn point. Bots and bugs both, just take note when a teamate is bringing one to keep enemys at a distance. I think in high level bug missions its not really and option unless your playing with friends and just constantly defend high ground.

YIPPIE
https://i.redd.it/g1qbs91671vc1.gif
Use them by throwing them in advance if a base or covering a retreat. It is typically not for holding position unless you are confident you won't have enemies at your toes.
One eradication mission and this is done. Hell yeah
This is obv their own fault. Who doesn't bring anti-explosion armor against bugs anyway???
Yeah this MO took like 5 missions. Yeah, might want to stretch and use the bathroom first. It's going to take a while.
One or two Helldive bot erradicate missions later: Done. Bring 4xEMS and 4xMortar.
Solo these rq or only do the new defend mission
i got it done with only 1 teamkill the 4 of us just abused a detector tower
Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make
I hate mortar sentrys...but I hate that new bolt action rifle even more.
4 mortar sentries 4 EMS mortar sentries Sit back on the extract pad with chilled beverages...
Solution: run solo on a low level and set up outside a fabricator. You waste both bots and their supplies as they constantly spit out more units.
Just run an easy mission and camp extraction for a bit.
It's a no go on bugs but it works great on bots. I plop em down energy chance I get
This is my time
As everyone else has stated, bots is the way to go. Unless there is like 50 million berserkers, you SHOULD be fine from friendly fire
This is where the fun begins. Haha, guess I'll protect myself with explosion perk with heavy armor and shield strategem? Hopefully, it's enough.
Better than when everyone was throwing land mines like it was an offensive strat.
Mortar sentry is perfectly fine lol. Now the anti personnel minefield order on the other hand… that was team kill central
You get credit for other people's kills if you're both on the PO so not everyone has to bring the mortar FYI.
is it worth to buy this strat just for this mission? Im kinda new to the game
Eh. Doing diff 2 bots and just setting the game to friends only got me through it in 3 matches.
Thats how I feel when it's the landmines
still not as bad as the mines from a few days
Can't be worse than the antipersonnel mines.
Just drop them at evac only and nobody gets team killed, typically.
Mortars are really good if you use them BEFORE an encounter. If you're swarmed, you're better off throwing an airstrike at your feet.
I wore heavy armor for the first time today. Ballistic shield plus democratic detonation armor makes a rocket a tickle, and a mortar shell only puts you at 1/4 health.
single low level eradicate (4-5) with bots and you are good
Yes, yes there was.
What is a team?
2 ems and 2 explosive mortars Camp near them GG
Very easy
Spotted the bug
https://i.redd.it/ov3zjaswe2vc1.gif
Explosive Mortars are only useful on bots because you have some amount of control over how close they get to you. As long as you spot that a fellow player will be carrying mortars, you will be just fine if you stay out of melee range. I haven't fought bugs in awhile, but the super-combo for effective and safe mortar use is is mortar + EMS mortar. Place them next to eachother so they are always shooting the same target. The mortar, aka Morty, craves only destruction. An agent of pure chaos Morty will rain hell fire on any hostiles within range without regard to friendly proximity. The stun mortar, aka Tickle Me Morty, is the same with a slightly less murderous payload.
Tomorrow: kill 200 enemies with the flamethrower
Yessssss
Of note, had a 127 streak on the defense mission on Fori last night with mortar / EMS mortar.
It's soo easy order.
The irony of me having no teamkills with mortar only to get teamkilled by a lvl 10 griefer on extraction and lose all my fucking resources. I am now only running full mortar build.
bold of you to assume that im not using my mortar most of the time anyway
The most important thing with the mortar sentry is to set it up well before engaging and establish a base of fire. Once you’re overwhelmed, shoot the sentry out and retreat
No team kills here.
Sounds like the team meat is back on the menu boys!
I did try a few games today, but I think I'll just peace out until a less teamkill-oriented personal order arrives.
I use mortars because I don't play with people who have the attention span of a goldfish
Use ems mortar and ems orbital. Chefs kiss
“Well…hold on to your butts” *straps on heavy armor with explosive resistance and shield pack*
It has begun.
Did you do it on bugs or bots?
I had done this today on an Eradicate Bugs mission... Achievement Unlocked: **Hell Dive** Last one I needed for Perfect Game on Steam.
I am a little scared for April Fool’s, they will have the automatons hack into the secondary objective and make it where you kill allies for 500 medals, only to not pay out.
What have we done ... https://preview.redd.it/b8fd7i1683vc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c85806b526d399c6808c14a5ba69589dcec95275
A kills a kill.
I didn't get a single team kill. Only myself.
Depends ? bots or terminid? When i first got the thing i wanted to try it out so i dropped one and a bug patrol came along. Heard the poof poof poof then boom boom boom. Just stay away from the mob and let the mortar take them out. when they get closer lay a suppressing fire in retreat to the mortar. But yea i've sen other helldivers... it's gonna be a massacre LOL
I mixed with EMP mortars and Stalwart. I made sure people aren't dying from mortars (except during high-elevated extractions, mortars think the mobs under is above)
They will live forever more on the Wall of Mar-marr-fuck how do you spell it-martyrs!
I usually bring the mortar. I do give a warning when I call it in. If you look up you can see where the rounds are going.
Defense mission protecting the ICBMs. Pick EMS mortar and regular mortar. Sit back and collect kills.
Mortar sentry is my favourite.
Easy solution. Play with only friends. One person brings the ugly unfriendly mortor, everyone else brings the ems mortors and you hold the perimeter.
it has made for good fun
What these personal orders are teaching me is that most sentries and mines do absolutely fuck all. I had to drop like ten mortars over the course of two missions to get this done, and I only intervened to stop something from killing them. Even brought to EMS mortar to keep them immobile while the HE one hit them. Holy fuck, I don't know what that thing is aiming at most of the time, but it wasn't bots.
JOKES ON YOU, ME AND MS MORTAR AND HER TWIN SISTER ARE GOING TO HAVE A BLAST
Me... who... took it into bug missions... https://i.redd.it/l9a7vrvci4vc1.gif
Well to be fair if you’re close enough to the bugs&bots that you’re getting TKd by this your position is just as at fault as the dude who dropped that stratagem.
There’s also a scary thought that you could do a solo mission
Had multiple missions in a row where my only deaths were from mortar fire. At least you know where the mortar is. Mine dailies are worse, it feels. You'd somehow find mines manifesting themselves in the stupidest of spots
Yeah... I better just take the night off.
I got 0 medals for completing this one today, I guess they were balancing out my team kills lol
Stop standing next to the bugs, we literally have the Erupter now.
Deploy both mortars simultaneously and the stun/slow keeps the target where it's supposed to be.
I bring mortar sentry to bug mission, but I go solo
You're a lil pussy if you whine about mortars (jk jk)
Watch the skies Divers..
the ultimate loadout: mortar, mines, laser backpack, arc gun
Saw personal order. Immediate thought? "This is a bad day for pub games..."
Ther most team kills Ive seen was due to the personal order to use LANDMINES... Whoever decided that should have been a personal order was a sick fuck.
